Beautiful.......2007-06-14
This CD is a must have for any Mormon Tabernacle Choir fans. The music is very reverent and gentle, and should also appeal to those not from the LDS church, seeing as how most of the music is common to the wider Christian community. This CD is a fantastic addition to any music collection.
A few bright spots, but also some disappointments.......2007-01-19
It Is Well With My Soul is one of my favorite-favorites and that is the main reason why I bought the CD; it turned out to be a huge let down on this album, they rearranged it so much that I almost didn't recognize it. Be Still My Soul is another reason why I bought it and it's good, but not great. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is where it starts to get good. The last two songs "Thou Gracious God, Whose Mercy Lends"
and "Come, Let Us Anew" are very good reasons to buy this CD, they each have truely powerful passages and make the CD worth having. The Mormon Tabernacle Choirs 2006 release entitled Then Sings My Soul is by far the best that I've heard from them.
This CD Deserves SIX Stars!.......2005-11-05
However, the rating scale has a limit of five. I own over 700 CDs of virtually every type of music. Peace Like A River belongs in a class by itself! I've never written a review before but, after listening to this STUNNING performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I feel compelled to share my praise with that of the five other reviewers. If I were limited to one word, I would use the word "SUPERB" to describe this beautiful and moving CD. SIX stars for Peace Like a River! BRAVO!!!
every good adjective .......2005-08-06
This album is all beauty and solace. The singing is pristine, the arrangements lush and often stirring--never saccharine. As with the previous reviewer, my first listing of "Peace Like a River" brought me to tears (especially "Peace Like a River," the sopranos in "Swing Low," and the bagpipes in "Thou Gracious God"). Buy this one.
Fabulous!.......2005-05-29
The perfect recording to help you recover from a long, hard day. Showcasing the MTC's "new" sound in contemporary choral arrangements with its own orchestra and conductor, "Peace Like a River" brought tears to my eyes in selection after selection during my first listen -- and I'm not normally an emotional person! The title song together with "Deep River," "Swing Low" and "Be Still My Soul" are alone worth the cost of the recording. Get this one!

John Prine at his best.......2007-05-21
From folk infused blues to rockabilly, it's hard to put a label on John Prine. But whatever you choose to call it, there's no mistaking his lyrical style. This is John at his wordsmithing best.
Great Stuff.......2007-01-30
I have been a John Prine fan since the early 1980s and always tended to be fonder of his older material. This CD blew me away. It has his usual wit, keen insight and catchy tunes
Some good memories.......2006-04-12
I remember my dad got this when I was about six (and it first came out) and played it a lot, since then I've always liked it, and would say this is a great album with some unforgettable lyrics.
Classic Prine.......2006-04-11
A real winner of a CD. One of my favorites. Lake Marie is a superbly written song. The rest of the cuts are very good also, there is honestly not a bad cut on the CD or one that have to hit the Next Song button on. Others have given descriptions that I don't need to repeat. Get this and enjoy it!
What can I say, I like Mr. Prine........2006-03-15
I enjoy the talent of John Prine, our view points seem to run along paralell line's. The CD,Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings,is a good listener,if you like John Prine. The creative jucie's seem to be a bit restrained here, yet the Prine talent always comes through. That is why I find it problematic in chosing a favorite,
each song speaks something different to and at different levels of heart, mind and soul. "New Train," and "Lake Marie,"are nearly impossible to compare due to the subject matter,at least for me.In my opinion,He's done better,I just can't remember when. Should you disagree,I refer to the title.

Tibetan lama Gyurme reunites with French composer Jean-Philippe Rykiel for an album of Vajra chant and New Age synth ambience. The result is an at-times lovely, at-times cheesy collection that decorates the monk's already perfect chant with ornaments of tingling bell synth and washes of sound. The appealing quality is Lama Gyurme's simple voice that, in raw, unadorned tones, creates a spiritual purity, which is often, but not always, reflected in the musical accompaniment of Rykiel. Such pieces as "The Six Syllable Mantra of the White Lotus Lord" and "Sacred Words of Liberation" work well in their seamless fusing of the Lama's long notes with the constant humming of the cosmos through metallic ambient synth, occasionally recalling the "Om" of Buddhist chant. Where the album lacks is in its Westernization of this traditional spiritual ritual, as on "Offering Chant" and its accompanying unplugged version, the latter of which has a sympathetic piano reminiscent of sentimental American pop. Still, it's a useful collection for those interested in the vocal praying of the Buddhist tradition. --Karen K. Hugg
Customer Reviews:
Rain of blessings: Vajra Chants.......2005-10-25
I have been listening to this cd daily, it has been incredibly inspiring during my pregnancy. The depth of the performances can only come from a true spiritual state of bliss. I highly recommend it.
Excellent blend of music.......2003-10-07
I am not usually a big fan of taking sacred music and adding modern accompaniment to it (a la Enigma), but this is well done and almost unobtrusive. The chants are deep, in fact I got goosebumps from the unplugged version of the offering chant.
This album is neither too new-agey, too jazzy, or too anything. This is excellent work respectful of the religious nature of the chant while remaining musically interesting
Rain of Blessings.......2002-12-15
This CD is nowhere as wonderful as Hope for Enlightenment (also by Lama Gyurme) which I must have listened to at least 100 times over.
One track has almost a jazzy beat to it, which I found annoying.
Soothing. Excellent for meditation........2002-10-08
Lama Gyurme's chants and Jean-Phillippe Rykiel's syntehsizer music work together wonderfully in this CD. Lama Gyurme's chant isn't exactly like the Gyoto monks I was use to hearing from Tibet. His chant was much more soothing, almost like he was "singing" under his breath. Gyoto monks can blow your eardrums away and can be rough to listen too, but not so with Lama Gyurme. His voice combined with the synthesizer creates a very relaxing ambience, and I found it great to meditate to. I wish I understood what Lama Gyurme was saying, but regardless, this CD is a true gem for those looking for relaxing music.
Kalu Rinpoche's disciple sings.......2002-02-24
The CD is sweetly sung by Lama Gyurme with soft backing by French musician. Meditative but thoroughly authentic.
Lama Gyurme is well known in France as a Kagyu teacher/practitioner. Kalu Rimpoche lists Lama Gyurme's two centers in France as among his recognized teachers in his books.

Album Description
Highly anticipated 2006 album from one of the hottest new bands in the UK at the moment, Sheffield's own Bring Me the Horizon. This is a real shot of much needed youth and adrenaline for the UK Metal scene. The album is full of what people have already come to expect from the band: breakdowns, massive riffs, time signatures, tempo changes, immense vocals, shredding solos, blistering percussion, etc. But the experience of working with top producer Dan Sprigg (lostprophets, Cradle Of Filth) has brought a new found maturity out of the guys, a more solid direction and focus in song writing and structure. 10 tracks including 'Pray For Plague'. Visible Noise. 2006.
Album Details
Debut Full Length Album by this Extreme Metal Band that Has Become Very Popular on Myspace, and have also Won Kerrang's "Best British Newcomer" Award.
Customer Reviews:
Better than most.......2007-06-22
I just discovered these guys recently, so I have not heard their previous ep. However, I'm loving this album and think this band has amazing potential. 'Pray for Plagues' is my favorite, but indeed all tracks are good. The instrumentals don't do much for me though, maybe if they were longer. One of the only complaints I would have is their use of breakdowns opened by the cookie monster growls. Don't get me wrong, they do those better than most, but in every song it does get a bit old. As young as these guys are, they are definitely going to do something. The vocalist is extremely talented for this genre, and their musical abilities are no different. I think if they keep it up and stay clear of what is popular in this genre, they will stay on top.
great improvement.......2006-11-15
Bring Me The Horizon's Count Your Blessings is a major improvement from their previously released EP This Is What The Edge Of Your Seat Was Made For. Some of the songs on CYB had been previously recorded live and in rough demos. The two instrumental tracks, Slow Dance and 15 Fathoms, Counting [which is also acoustic], are executed amazingly and show that BMTH aren't just five little teenagers with an electric guitar, but are also talented in the non-'br00tal' genre. I don't have any favorite tracks, because all of them are different in their own way and are all excellent.
speechless.........2006-11-11
this cd is soo much better than their last ep..and that was amazing. you should definately buy this cd. if you like this band, i would recommend with blood comes cleansing, abigail williams, and as blood runs black, as they somewhat relate to this band. and they're a few of my personal favorites =)

simple but amazing.......2006-01-29
The guitar and vocals on this CD will blow you away. Of all of the Catholic Classics CDs, this one is my favorite - an awesome way to learn some of those more traditional songs without a voicy choir.
Surprising, but beautifully done.......2006-01-12
I really expected a more traditional arrangement with organ & choir, so I was in for a bit of a shock right off the bat. The arrangements are relatively simple with one or two voices and limited orchestration. However the effect is wonderful. The primary singer has an unusual high and clear voice, and the harmonies raise goosebumps with their beauty (all I know about music I learned from my highschool punk rock band, so you'll have to listen to the tracks above if my description is unclear).
Some of the tracks are forgettable, but the others are truly outstanding. "Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow" is wonderful, and exceeded only by "Holy God, We Praise Thy Name." The mixture of latin chant with vernacular on "For the Beauty of the Earth/Ubi Caritas" and "Go Silent Friend/In Paradisium" was tastefully done. The performers and arrangers also rescued the otherwise saccharine "How Great Thou Art" and turned it into a genuinely inspiring hymn, although they were unable to accomplish a similar feat with the thoroughly overplayed "Amazing Grace."
So many other people have beautiful renditions of Ave Maria, so the track on this CD barely registers for me. Panis Angelicus is done better on many other disks as well.
Still, if it were only "Praise God..." and "Holy God..." on this CD, it would be worth the price. Truly excellent.
This is the one to get........2003-09-08
Very beautiful and inspiring rendition of some favorite Catholic classics. The most beautiful: "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow" which fades in the middle into a chant-like revery-inducing song only to flourish again with new-found faith at the end. Second most beautiful: "Holy God, We Prise They Name," which builds in three voices towards the end, one added for each person of the Blessed Trinity. Also noteworthy: "For the Beauty of the Earth," with its mix of Latin and English transitions and blending of Gregorian chant in between verses. Good rendition of "Ave Maria" and "Simple Gifts." A lot of steel-string guitar played strong and true, but not overwhelming the beautiful voice of David Fischer. Fischer accompanies himself on the best tracks, to great effect (especially "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow").

Customer Reviews:
Unsatisfying.......2007-07-08
I was looking for a CD that would help me carry the beauty and spirit of the Shabbat services with me throughout the rest of the week. Unfortunately, this CD doesn't do that.
The CD seems to have very little emotion invested in the singing. I don't feel kavanah in the least. I imported the CD I purchased into my iTunes collection as soon as I got it, excited at the prospect of learning new melodies and reinforcing old favourites; sadly, I have deleted all but two of the tracks, Y'did Nefesh and the Birkot haMazon -- and I kept those two only because I was still trying to learn them. And I haven't listened to either of those tracks in almost two years.
But maybe liking this CD is tradition-dependent. Traditionalists, Conservatives, and Orthodox will be thoroughly unimpressed and disappointed. Reformists, Reconstructionists, and anyone else -- well, I honestly don't know. It seems though that there has to be a better compilation out there than this one.

EARLY RUNNER.......2007-01-31
YOU BRING BLESSINGS: There's not much I can really add to Bramoi's comprehensive review, but I will definitely agree that Lutan Fyah has very quickly achieved top billing on Jamaica's ever expanding roster of young roots reggae singers. YOU BRING BLESSINGS is the latest showcase for In The Streetz producer Byron Murray's impressive catalogue of roots rhythms, joining Norris Man's HOME & AWAY, Jah Mason's WHEAT & TEARS and Luciano's CHILD OF A KING - all recommended releases. For Lutan Fyah, last year's HEALTHY LIFESTYLE (for Xterminator) and especially the massive PHANTOM WAR (a Greensleeves release), were always going to be hard acts to follow, but BLESSINGS definitely doesn't disappoint. What distiniguishes this latest release for me - apart from Murray's excellent production work - is the inclusion of four first class lovers numbers from an artist whose very best work has leaned more often on cultural themes. NO MORE PILLOW TALK on the nice, piano accented FREE LIFE rhythm is perhaps the best of the lot, but SPEND SOME TIME and YOU BRING BLESSINGS are also great selections , as is SHE'S MY SUNSHINE on Katrina Irons' well travelled FYAH rhythm (and the only non-Murray production featured here). Other standouts include the excellent opener DESIRE TO GET HIGHER, as well as SO MUCH GUNS IN THE CITY, STAND IN MY WAY on the sombre MOBAY rhythm, and the bubbling NEVER GET ENOUGH. All in all though, there's no weak link here, and BLESSINGS just might be Lutan Fyah's most consistent full-length release to date - perhaps even a half-notch better than PHANTOM WAR in my book, certainly the first must-have release of the new year and a very early runner for the 2007 top ten lists.
#1 Draft Pick. . . .......2007-01-23
(4.5stars)
The current new class of roots reggae gets more and more impressive by the day, seeming to endlessly add another remarkable talent to the bunch, making it, arguably, the finest young group of roots talent in a very long time here. Names such as Turbulence, I-Wayne, the lethal Jah Cure and Natty King figure to at some point in the future take up the reins for such artists as Capleton, Luciano, Sizzla Kalonji and Anthony B. Mixed firmly into that mix of youths to come, and arguably at the head of the class is Spanish Town native Lutan Fyah. Where Jah Cure boasts his earth shattering voice and I-Wayne manages to combine his seemingly never ending passion for righteousness into a sickly heavy bundle of vibes, Lutan Fyah's 'hidden talent' is boasting one of the deepest bag of lyrics you'll find anywhere in reggae music over the past 20 years or so.
I first became aware of the former football standout actually while I was living in the states and he had voiced some material for California's excellent Lustrekings outfit (including one of my all-time Fyah favorites to this day, No More War), and had then set out seeking more material and possibly and album from Fyah. Although he is critiqued by some because of his melodies (which honestly isnt his strongest point), one listen to a song will tell you IMMEDIATELY that this whole lyrics thing isn't too much of a problem for Fyah at all. The debut album came in late 2004, Dem No Know Demself, and was immediately followed by the Lustrekings album, Time & Place.
And now, 3 albums later appears You Bring Blessings from UK based Cousins. The label, which was responsible for last year's excellent and overlooked Leave the Collie Alone from veteran singer Tony Curtis, and has released albums for such veteran vocal names liek Michael Rose, Al Campbell and the excellent Richie Davis (with the superb Nubian Woman) is continuing in recording the newer artists to nice effect. You Bring Blessings comes on the heels of an excellent 2006 for Fyah which saw him release not only the excellent Healthy Lifestyle on his VP debut, but my choice for 2006's reggae album of the year, Phantom War for Greensleeves, as well.
'Blessings' is probably best described as a half step below combination of the vibes of Time & Place & Phantom War, which is definitely not a bad combination to be linked to. The album also finds album producer extrordinaire of the moment, Byron Murray from In the Streetz hooking up with Fyah. Thus, if you happened to catch 2006's Home & Away from Norrisman, Child of a King from Luciano or Wheat & Tears from Jah Mason (or just happen to be a big reggae fan) many of these riddims will be familiar to you, but of course still up to date and hearing Fyah on a session with them is very impressive still (and I'm happy Cousins picked it up, but I imagine Greensleeves would have done the same if they intend on a 2007 album for Fyah). Both Fyah and Murray's reputations continue to grow, so an album just seems like the next big thing from the two (and I wanna see a In The Streetz Sizzla album this year too!)
The best tune on You Bring Blessings is probably the absolutely delightful opener, Desire to get Higher. The world class vibes built on top of a lovely nyah drum backed riddim is more than an excellent way to start off the album and the new year and I'm almost a little 'upset' that it didn't make it on the LOADED Phantom War. Curiously enough, Phantom War contained NO Murray productions, all to the benefit of Blessings! Go along in that same vibes and check the excellent title track over the Desperate Lover riddim, which is just a fine fine track, I remember hearing the riddim for the 1st time (I believe on Norrisman's Feelings Deep Within) and thinking about the possibilities it could have, and You Bring Blessings definitely builds finely on that vibes.
Also definitely worth checking is the wonderful Never Stop Hail Rastafari over the enchanting and HUGE Street Swing riddim. The song is definitely one of my favorites from Fyah altogether and again, would have fit lovely on the Phantom War album, but I digress. I dont think I've ever actually heard a Fyah tune which I thought was BAD, and this album is no different, as its completely brimming with nice vibes. Check Stand in My Way over the minimalistically beautiful Mobay riddim; the two relationship tunes in the middle of the album, the stronger of which is She's My Sunshine over the Million riddim and followed by the still strong No More Pillow Talk over the nice Free Life riddim as well.
Also present is the obligatory After All, the combination between Fyah and Norrisman which is on Norrisman's album Home & Away as well, still a well strong track closing the album out; And I'd be doing you a disservice to not mention the superb Never Get Enough!
Overall, definitely recommending You Bring Blessings by Lutan Fyah, with an excellent way to kick off the new year. The album is pretty much everything you've come to expect from both artist and producer. And to that reggaehead out there, just be honest, you were listening to Mason's and Norrisman's album thinking Fyah would be excellent over some of the same riddims! I know I was, You Bring Blessings definitely doesn't disappoint and doesn't fall too short of the absolute best work of Lutan Fyah's career.
And just to add on, EARLY 2007 is vibing nicely NO? With 3 albums ALREADY out from Fyah, Turbulence and Norrisman (Captura), Midnite dropping their obligatory 3 January albums again and Richie Spice to drop a boomshot next month, its an excellent time to be a fan of the music.

Album Description
Quality music at a great price, this collection features 20 tracks including 'How Deep Is The Ocean', 'No Strings', 'Puttin' On The Ritz' & 'Heatwave'. The Swingles have, unusually, incorporated electric keyboards, horns and drums into their usually acappella approach, resulting in some thoroughly modern interpretations of Berlin's classics. Castle Pulse. 2003.

Doesn't work for me........2006-05-04
I LOVE the Swingle Singers. The first time I heard them sing Bach back in the 60's I was driving a car and I was so blown away that I had to pull off the road. And I LOVE Irving Berlin's music; his message is simple and direct and tuneful. And therein lies the rub. To me, the jazz vocal styles, the contemporary harmonies and the whimsical utterances of the Swingle Singers go together with Irving Berlin's music like oil and water; they just don't mix. The words and melodies are those of Irving Berlin but the end result isn't Irving Berlin. Admittedly this is one man's opinion, and others might take great pleasure in the Swingle Singers' unfailing virtuosity and inventiveness. But if you anticipate the straighforward tunes and emotional directness in Berlin's music, you are apt to be disappointed.
