About the Artist
Benjamin Thomas Guernsey May 6, 1974- present
Benjamin Guernsey began playing guitar when he was eleven years old. He started off learning eighties glamour rock guitar riffs but soon enough shaved his head and began learning from good guitar players like John Frusciante and the finger picking style of Woody Guthrie and Elizabeth Cotton. At seventeen he began singing and has not turned back since developing a simple and honest approach that evokes comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Shane MacGowan. Ben calls it Tugboat Country. He also plays the accordian, harmonica, occasionally loopable drum beats, and if his Christmas dreams come true perhaps soon banjo as well.
Ben is originally from Garrett Park, Maryland. His dad, Tom Guernsey, grew up in the Washington D.C. area playing music for most of his life. Together they wrote the majority of songs on Ben's most recent album, Everybody Knows, and recorded it at Tom's in-house studio. The album features many well know artists from the Washington, D.C. and Maryland area. Ben Guernsey currently resides in Seattle, Washington.
