5 out of 5 stars A must-get if you're a Dilalrds Fan.......2007-02-22

Ever since appearing on the Andy Griffith Show as the Darlings, this CD is great to have for blue-grass music. I find myself listening over and over to "Doug's Tune" and that caused me to read and learn of their background. Since thoee days, I've been able to attend live concerts and the CD's reproduce their style perfectly. Next best thing to being there.

5 out of 5 stars Bluegrass at it's best.......2005-09-22

If you like the kind of bluegrass that was featured on the Andy Griffith Show, you will like this cd. It has the same crisp sound and vocals. However, the young lady that accompanied them on the show does not sing on this album. Two favorites from Mayberry are on it-Tom Dooley and There was a time. There is a little humor between some of the songs (remember, it's almost live).

5 out of 5 stars !!!!PERFECT!!!! !!!!ALMOST!!!!.......2005-07-19

I was thrilled to find these albums on CD, since my LPs are pretty much worn to dust. The music is great, and the sound quality of the CD is very good.

However, two minor points.

First, a note to the Amazon folks - you should have this listed under Dillards, not Dillard and Clark. I almost didn't find it. Dillard and Clark was formed in 1968 by Doug Dillard and Gene Clark of The Byrds. Clark had nothing to do with these 2 albums.

Second, somebody needs to tell Johnny Rogan, who wrote the notes in the booklet that accompanies the CD, that Salem, Missouri is NOT "infamous in history for its witch trials". That's another Salem altogether.

5 out of 5 stars Dillards -- Second to None.......2005-02-14

I don't know anything about the "Darlings" or the Andy Griffith Show... I saw the Dillards in a Los Angeles club way back in the 60s. Liked their schtik and loved their music. Bought an album of theirs (33-1/3 rpm) and played it until it was well and truly dead. It's a treat once more listen to "Whole World Round" and "Never See My Home Again" and all the great riffs on the mandolin and banjo. It never grows stale.

5 out of 5 stars Best ever!.......2004-05-16

This album is by far the best bluegrass recording I have ever heard. Combining old standards with incredible originals, the dillards race through each track at a breakneck speed. Some fine tracks include 'Dooley' (heard on the Andy Griffith show) 'Ground Hog' and 'Deulin' Banjo.'

Album Description

Throughout his phenomenal, almost 30-year career, Elvis Costello has proved himself one of the most versatile and inventive stars in the pop music firmament. He first rose to fame as one of punk rock's breakthrough talents then went on to release innovative albums interpreting a truly diverse range of genres. Costello-originally Liverpool's own Declan McManus-has made an indelible mark on the pop music songbook, bringing unfettered passion and profound lyrical weight to his richly creative stylistic adventures. These three titles continue Rhino's Deluxe Edition restoration of his extraordinary catalogue.

This CD is for anyone who loves a good country style ballad performed by one of the greastest songwriters.

4 out of 5 stars The best Elvis Costello.......2006-11-10

A listening pleasure, smooth, relaxing, mix of country duo with George Jones......2 CDs that I play every week. 2 versions of "psycho", fabulous.

1 out of 5 stars Elvis Crapello.......2006-03-10

I don't know. I loved EC and I loved country...I even went to see him on the tour afterwards...what a waste of my precious time back then...and of my money. This is self-indulgent and badls played...I do not understand the point really. Buy some real country instead...George Jones, Johnny Cash, anything instead...

1 out of 5 stars a crushing disappointment.......2005-12-05

Prior to this release, Elvis Costello made a series of rock records of such brilliance as to inspire the pursuit of a musical career in many of those who heard them. This album is a slap in the face to all those people, as well as to all the authentic country music performers who come from places like London, Kentucky instead of London, England. It is a narcissistic, self-indulgent musical vanity project of the worst kind - an idea as stupid as Loretta Lynn rapping or Sean Combs attempting to sing Ella Fitzgerald or Roberta Flack songs. The more you like his first albums, the more you will hate this one - don't waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars Astounding! 20 Years before its time!MUCH overlooked.......2005-11-10

Simply astounding album. Elvis Costello was at his height of popularity and had the courage to eplore his personal favorites and bring them to his "New Wave" audience. Unfortunately his audience was so influenced by the Stalinistic"Year Zero"/scorched earth attitudes of the Class of '77 punk that they pretty much rejected this amazing sampler of heartfelt Country soul. ( Although I do recall Los Angeles' KROQ Rodney on Roq giving the aggro version of Hank Williams "Why Dont You Love Me -Like You Used to Do?" quite a few spins at the time). In their defense one must recall that "Country' at that time was as UNcool as you could get with the charts dominated by the likes of 'supergroups' like Alabama ad nauseum...Costello however TRIED to redirect the spotlight on the good stuff, the hearty, celtic rooted mournful stuff. It is worth noting that that ONLY Country lyrics share Costello's 'boy loses girl' themes( as opposed to the inane posturing of late 70's 'Prog rock' fantasy and 80's'hair bands' and todays hip hop)Country had the REALITY of a life that touches all people at all times NOT 'bling'- Fast forward 20+ years with fellow Celts The Thrills covering a similiar genre, the Late Great Johnny Cash having an ENORMOUS amount of 'Street Cred' post Rick Rubin's AMERICAN series and a general lovefest of all things Gram Parson's ( including this seasons biggest concert draw- Parson's bastard offspring band -The Eagles) Country/Roots/Alt.Country/Americana is Cool. Costello covered not one but TWO Parsons tunes ( 'How Much I Lied ' and 'I'm Your Toy'/'Hot Burrito #2') as well as taking us on a trip through George Jones, Merle Haggard , Hank Williams' greats ( all the stuff that Soccer Mom 'Country' radio ie Shania/Chesney/Garth and NO TWANG- REFUSES to play. Costello did a brave thing recording and releasing this and radio/critics of the day were caught flat footed expecting another "New Lace Sleeves' or 'Alison' they got "Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down' and 'Sittin and a Thinkin' - Surprisingly the much pilloried disc gave Costello one of his biggest UK hits and a concert staple to this day in 'Good Year for the Roses'- So much of todays new /'alternative' music owes a DIRECT debt to this album. The SF Bay Area's great Dave Gleason and Wasted Days, Los Angeles Beachwood Sparks, the Irish Thrills ALL flow from this river of rootsy goodness. Superb!

4 out of 5 stars OFFBEAT, BUT GOOD LISTENING!.......2007-02-05

FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET A COLLECTION OF JACK BLANCHARD & MISTY MORGAN. I'VE ALWAYS ENJOYED THEIR COMICAL SONGS. THIS ONE IS A GOOD MIX OF DIFFERENT STYLES. ENJOYABLE, YET OFFBEAT.

4 out of 5 stars I lke this CD.......2006-04-27

I like this CD. most of all, that it has Tennesee Birdwalk on it, probably that is the best known hit from these two. I must listen to this CD a few more times to determine what I think of the quality of the recordiing. first time around it sounds pretty good.

5 out of 5 stars An album not to be missed.......2005-12-02

This album is a superb compilation of the best of Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan's songs many of which have been worldwide hit records. I discovered them early in 2005 and I am familiar with many of these songs from their previous albums which I own, but I am delighted to hear the additional songs which I had not heard before. Jack & Misty are uniquely talented Country music artists. Their harmonies are both superb and distinctive with Jack's bass voice blending so well with Misty's rich alto.

Jack is an real artist with words having the ability to 'paint a picture with words'. He composed the majority of the songs they sing and their songs cover the whole range of life experience, as the title of the album so aptly says "Life & Death {and everything else in between}".

Interspersed with the more serious songs are some of their 'crazy' songs which so well illustrate their terrific sense of humour. These include Tennessee Birdwalk, which was a #1 hit and won them a Grammy Nomination in 1970, Humphrey The Camel, Legendary Chicken Fairy, If Eggs Had Legs, the catchy Dum Song and Cows (just listen to the lyrics) :) If you share their sense of humour you will not disappointed.

Other great tracks which relate to life's experiences include The Clock of St. James, You've Got Your Troubles (I've Got Mine), the poignant There Must Be More To Life (Than Growing Old), It Seems Like There Ain't No Going Home, Shadows Of The Leaves, Big Black Bird (Spirit Of My Love), Somewhere In Virginia In The Rain, Changin' Times, Place In Your Mind and Sunset Train. You can easily relate to the experiences in life that inspired these songs.

The two songs new to me, Don't It Make You Want To Go Home and Chapel Hill, are welcome additions which also tug at the heart strings.

Jack & Misty are both accomplished keyboard artists playing much of their own background music - Jack also plays guitars. They are accompanied by some of the best musicians around.

Jack & Misty have to be heard to be appreciated. Their songs just get better with the playing. They have something about them that gives them a "must listen again ... and again .... and again" quality. No how many times I listen to them I just NEVER, ever get tired of hearing them. I just grow to love them more each day.

Many of these songs can be heard on their website [...] ... just in case you need convincing.

Don't miss out on this musical treat.

Album Description

Mile Markers is just what the name says: a set of signs posted to guide the way home. . . or maybe point out the direction that has home in the rear view mirror.

Set in the West, it rambles and wanders and aims the steering wheel out at the endless horizon. A halfways unfolded road map, it passes through Austin and Tucson and San Ysidro and Los Angeles, through the badlands of both South Dakota and New Mexico, from Oklahoma and the windy Panhandle country around Abilene all the way to Bakersfield and the San Joaquin Valley.

But Mile Markers is a spiritual voyage as much as a mere travelogue, a set of tales that turns into a single song of journeying forth.

It's like a Western, in a way. It's "The Searchers," or "Ride the High Country," or" High Plains Drifter." Or even"Two-Lane Blacktop" or "The Getaway," because it's set in a contemporary West divided by white lines and asphalt, and settled by truckstops and parking lots. It's a landscape of big skies and long roads and endless Mile Markers flying by at the edge of your vision. And like every true Western ever, contemporary or not, it's a story of drifting and settling, of setting down roots and then having them torn up again, of learning that you don't dare settle down when you're just going to be forced to hit the road again.

For Mark Stuart and the Bastard Sons, the last ten years has been a blur of miles and markers. BSOJC has played more shows most years than most bands do in their entire careers, and they've done it the hard way, piling their own gear into their own van, and then heading off into a dark night that's just a couple of hours away from day. A lot of indie bands have done a lot of this, but not many have made the long haul across an entire decade. And amidst that grueling schedule, Stewart has managed to keep writing, delivering two previous records, Walk Alone and Distance Between, that built a hardcore fanbase for the band and yet achieved a critical recognition that most singer-songwriters would slit their left wrist to gain. It was an enviable position, as long as you didn't have to do all the work that went with it.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars REAL Country Music for a Change.......2006-03-19

Listening to the Bastard Sons' music makes you want to grab a ice-cold longneck and Belly up to the nearest bar. Mile Markers is some of the band's best stuff and in my opinion "Road to Bakersfield" may be one of their best ever which is saying alot. If you're tired of the cookie-cutter type music played on "country" stations, give The Bastards a listen! I'll see ya at the bar.

"The Honky-tonks have all gone away but Buck and Merle are here to stay, on the Road to Bakersfield".

5 out of 5 stars San Diego Tribune and Des Mones City View reviews.......2005-10-03

"Mature tales of life on the road and lost love as seen by Mark Stuart and the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash through the windshield of a van carrying them through thousands of miles of desert highways abound on the alt-country outfit's third and finest album, "Mile Markers." The album's lead track, "Austin Nights," sets the pace for much of "Mile Markers" with a mesmerizing groove, touches of sweeping Spanish and steel guitars, an unforgettable melody and deft lyrics of wanderlust delivered by Stuart's trademark warm timbre. "King of the World" is a clever observation of the trials of maintaining a relationship while living on the road and "California Sky" is a touching tribute to the band's home state. These songs, and others, are as cool and arid as a moonlight drive through the desert and they resonate with hope as they travel through the great unknown."

Michael Swanger --
Des Moines City View

"Unwinding like a country road movie, "Mile Markers" offers twangy slices of Southwestern life. San Diego's favorite Bastard Sons take "The Road to Bakersfield" after spending an "Austin Night" with the character-conscious Texas singer-songwriters (Townes the drifter would've been proud). The Telecaster and steel-guitar sound is potent, but it's Mark Stuart's lived-in vocals that stand out, notably on the closing-time ballad "Are You Lonely Tonight?""

5 out of 5 stars I SMELL GASOLINE!!!.......2005-09-23

So are you tired, like me, of the overly produced, slick as a linoleum slate of endless pseudo country music dribble? Do you have a hard time telling one band or singer from another. Drones of clones... it just goes on and on. I threw out my radio a long time ago, my friends. They won't play these Bastards! And that is the shame of the state of the country music business today. Luckily, the "ALT - COUNTRY" music scene is saving the day, and these guys are at the top of my list for grit, power, emotion and steam. They are the musical equivalent of an 18 wheeled highway locomotive, the kind that leaves your windshield smoke stained with gasoline fumes as you follow them down that lost desert highway. You've got Johnny Cash playing at full volume. You could pass on by, but no, you're hooked on the diesel fumes, so you ride in their wake, cause they know where they're going and you want to get there too.
I love these guys. I've been following them since the late 90s, almost from the start, hitting every show they've done here in Phoenix. After the shows, I would talk to Mark Stuart and the band, listening to all their war stories about the road, the honky tonks, and the near collisions with both drivers and fame. Like the time they recorded in Johnny Cash's famed cabin, and the feeling he left behind there. They have his blessings and they'll need it, because you ain't gonna find a country DJ with the balls to say "Bastard Sons" on the air.
I truly didn't think they could top the eerie, mystical sounds of their last album, Distance Between (a masterpiece in sonic layers of emotion), but they did it here, with Mile Markers. All the tales I heard them tell of their woes on the road are celebrated in this masterful song cycle of true Americana. It's Route 66 in your ears! You can just smell the burning rubber and gasoline. Each song is like a much needed rest stop along the endless freeway, when you step out onto the pavement of a brightly lit truckstop and feel the breeze of our great nation blowing through your hair. My favorite is UNDER YOUR SPELL. You know what I'm talking about guys, that sultry waitress at the Diner, where you can't stand the food, but you keep coming back for another whiff of her seductive perfume.
KING OF THE WORLD and RADIO GIRL are gems that we should be hearing on the radio, politically incorrect band name or not. I want to hear this stuff blairing out somebody's car radio for a change, instead of that damned rap crap! YEAH!!! I want to hear it playing on the Juke Boxes clean across this here country. This is music that defines our country's heritage!
Mark Stuart is a prolific songwriter, with nearly as many unreleased songs in the vault as Neil Young himself. As a matter of fact him and old Neil are the only two guys left who can really write a good song any more.
So what's fifteen bucks for a trip down route 66, at today's gas prices, it's a bargain!!
Now go to your windows, stick your heads out and shout
"I SMELL GASOLINE!!!!!!!"

In recent years, Chet Atkins has shared albums with Mark Knopfler, Suzy Bogguss, and Jerry Reed, but the veteran guitarist recorded this 1996 disc just the way the title suggests: Almost Alone.

Aside from the strings added to several cuts, only 3 of the 13 numbers feature any musicians other than Atkins. And on 11 of the tracks, only one Chet Atkins is present; in other words, those tracks feature a single take without overdubs. When it works, this minimalist format allows us to enjoy Atkins at his best--just 10 fingers and 6 strings. Too often, however, he can't resist his lifelong temptation to clutter up arrangements with sugary string charts. Still, he dazzles on such unaccompanied pieces as his own pretty pop tune "Happy Again" and Irving Berlin's "Cheek to Cheek." --Geoffrey Himes

5 out of 5 stars Agreed--Almost Chet's Best, but still an incredible CD!.......2007-05-16

We agree with J.K. Olsen, Chet Atkins - Solo Sessions is even better, but don't dismiss this CD. It is still features some of Chet's best playing. (Just listen to You Do Something To Me and Mr. Bojangles)

5 out of 5 stars Almost Chets best.......2006-03-01

Almost Chets best

This is a very beautiful solo guitar album.
The only reason, it's almost Chets best album, is that

Solo Sessions is even greater,,,buth any way, this is a superb album,, and you will not forget bying it.

Solo Sessions, were found in Chets home studio, after the genious had past away.
28 traks. Many of them greate...It`s Chets best solo work since the 50ties.

You can get Solo sessions on www.misterguitar.com and www.funkyjunk

1 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2005-08-30

Sure Wish I had saved my money and purchased another of Chet's CD's instead of buying this one because of the reviews. I loved the picking, but didn't like the songs. will not play this CD again.

5 out of 5 stars The title says it all........2003-06-13

Finally, an album by the master, as the name implies. Just Chet. From Early humor (I Still Write Your Name in the Snow) to recent pieces (A Little Mark Music) to one of his many classics, (Ave Maria) Mr. Guitar is at the top of his game when he's "Almost Alone."

5 out of 5 stars Pure Guitar Sounds.......2003-04-03

This one is a definite must have for Your collection and/or jukebox. For those days of enjoying guitar sounds at Their finest, this One by Chet Atkins in His later years exemplifies the talent that remains today and for Our tomorrow's!!

Buy it, and You wont be disappointed*

Costello's flirtation with "real" country music, this album of covers produced in Nashville by veteran Billy Sherrill was prompted by some genuinely bad feelings as his personal life fell apart. It hasn't held up well over the years since its 1981 release, but there is one brilliant moment--Costello's cracked-voice reading of hero Gram Parsons's "How Much I Lied." The Rykodisc edition adds an array of bonus tracks, including Leon Payne's apropos "Psycho," cut during the tour for the Baroque-pop Armed Forces. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorites.......2003-10-27

(This review is based on the shorter, original CD)

I don't know much about country music, but I know when I want to hear "poor me" music, I turn to this CD. I've always been a big Elvis fan and was looking for another in the ilk of his first three. This one disappointed me at first, but it got under my skin and now it's one of my favorites.

The only times I don't like Elvis is when his music seems uninspired and he's just cranking it out, especially in the writing. I think every album/CD since (and including) Trust has had some of that. Since Almost Blue is all covers, I think it allowed Elvis to concentrate on singing songs he obviously loves.

I'd rather have this off-beat "weird" CD than one of his later inconsistent ones. I like every song on it.

5 out of 5 stars An inspiration.......2003-05-18

I love this release by Elvis. I take it as a tribute to the singer/songwriters that inspired him. The selections and arrangements make this a solid country venture for Mr. Costello!

4 out of 5 stars Context and Content and Holding On Quite Well.......2003-02-24

when i first heard "almost blue" i was floored. whereas the "stax"/"wall of sound" surprise of "get happy!" seemed consistent with elvis' musical sensibility (and fit neatly into a still burgeoning "new wave" eclecticism), "almost blue" was COUNTRY.

i love this album. elvis used a fantastic producer (billy sherrill) and covers some pretty awesome material. my only regret is that elvis' live rendition of the gram parson's song "i'm your toy" isn't part of the original album (it is on the re-issues) elvis, backed by the royal philharmonic, never sounded better.

country music is part of rock's roots -- nowadays that seems neither incongruous nor foolish. but it seemed so out-of-synch back then, as if country music was another language altogether from rock'n'roll. i highly recommmend this album to everyone who believes (as i do) that "king of america" is one of the finest albums ever recorded. in just seventeen months, elvis took us from london to nashville and into the budoir.

for anyone who still thinks this album weak or a throwaway, i think you should remember the context and the singer... his cover of "sweet dreams" along with "success" (later recorded by sinead) and "good year for the roses" make the album worth the purchase...

5 out of 5 stars Genius.......2002-11-08

A wonderful journey with Elvis; it opened my mind to good country music. Fun to listen to, fun to sing along with, and has held up beautifully over time.

5 out of 5 stars Elvis goes country the right way.......2001-07-27

Leave it to a bloke from England to make one of the best real country albums of the past thirty years!

I've been a fan of Costello from his first album on, and even though my favorite is the punk-ish "This Year's Model", "Almost Blue" really makes this Texas boy smile...

Awesome players. Fabulous songs. And one of the great singers. How could anyone not love this album?

I for one wish Elvis would do another one of these...

I'm a originally a turkish women who loves very much American Country Music.
Mark Chesnutt is the best artist in the country music. His amazing
voice and style make me listen his music over and over again.
I love him so much. For about three years in a row I went to his concert. He is an exceptional, fantastic musician. God Bless him,his family and his band.

5 out of 5 stars The real Deal.......2002-08-29

Mark Chessnut he is a very talented singer when it comes to country music then let me tell you this ol" boy can sing it!!!I have been listening to his music since he first arrived on the scene .From the time i first heard him sing to cold at home i said he is gonna be a star well, that prediction proved true!!!The song went to number 1 and so did everything else he released after that almost!!! I cant say that this cd is my favorite of his i dont think i can pick one but, i think if you listen to him and you like real true country music then you will want to hear more of this man!!!Almost goodbye is a good cd it starts out with a good song about partying to hard and having to go to work the next day and just how it feels to party to hard its called it sure is monday. The second song is ok it is called woman sensous woman its about a guy whos deep in love with his girl he even goes so far as to say you control the world im living in.Then theres the title track it will chill you to the bone when you hear Mark put his personal touch to the song and the guitar is awesome its a song about those little lover spats that almost ended with goodbye! I just wanted you to know is a well written song although Mark didnt write it he sang it very well and Took you to where the man in the song was in pain and living with a memory. Aprils fool is about a guy whos fell in love with a girl and she played with his heart and in the end he was left being another of Aprils Fools!!!Texas is bigger than it used to be is just a good texas honky tonk dance floor song itll make you wish you were Two stepping across a hard wood floor with thick smoke dim lights and loud music!!! My hearts to broke to pay attention tells a story of a man getting hurt to where hes got good looking women all around him and hes afraid of taking a chance with em because of how he was hurt.Vickie vance gotta dance is ok its not one of my favorites on this cd though!!!Till a better memory comes along is another one of those songs where the man was left hurting and afraid of trying at love again great song about breaking up!Then last but not least is the song the will i personally think this is a song everyone should hear especially when it comes to the death of a loved one and wills and whats left behind for the survivors The song says it all! It tell a story about a loved one dieng and the family reading the will of their last wishes.I got a little choked up i must say .Mark in my opinion is one of Nashvilles best and doesnt get the credit he deserves Well , i really dont know what else to say i havent already said give Mark a listen i guarantee itll be worth the time and money. As long as Mark is around country is in good hands After listening and you want more then go pick up his new cd Its self titled Mark Chessnut and it has his new song She was on it Only one thing to say that describes Mark "Country"!!!!!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Advertised as the heaviest breakup album ever made...and they're not lying.......2006-03-19

This is a brilliant recording. Running a mere 25 minutes, it manages to say more than most artists say in their whole careers. This album was advertised as "the heaviest breakup album ever made" when I decided to buy it, the advertising was right on the money. It's a brilliantly honest record, sparingly arranged, quite beautiful, angry, sad, and depressing, all at the same time. Lee Hazlewood is known mostly for his colloborations with Nancy Sinatra (he wrote These Boots Are Made for Walkin'), but his solo work is becoming more available nowadays, and thank goodness. Some people have written about Lee..."you either get him or you don't". It's like that. Either you love this album, or you'll think it's a waste of time. It's the former. It's an amazing piece of art.

3 out of 5 stars My Baby Done Left Me...........2001-02-19

Having recently bought the "Cowboy In Sweden" album and thoroughly enjoyed it, I had high hopes for this CD, unfortunately I found it slightly disappointing. As noted elsewhere, the album is very sparsely arranged - dare I say, too sparsely? Good though they are, I wonder how much better songs such as "If Its Monday Morning" and "I'll Live Yesterdays" would have sounded with Hazlewood's customary inventive arrangements. The more uptempo songs in particular don't work - the song that seems best suited to this spartan approach is the spooky ballad "Come On Home to Me". Nonetheless, it is still Lee and he's on good form vocally and lyrically (even if the spoken intros are a bit corny). One more thing, the whole album lasts just over 25 minutes, which once you remove the intros means about 20 minutes of music!

5 out of 5 stars Lee Hazlewood...Genius behind the scenes..........2000-04-23

Now...most people have no idea who Lee Hazlewood is. He's the man who brought Duane Eddy to fame, who produced tons of bands, including Dino, Desi and Billy (offspring of the more famous Dean Martin and Desi Arnez), and writing such hits as "These Boots Are Made For Walking." And that's all well and good. You may have heard him on a Nancy Sinatra album, the deep bass voice gravelling along on songs like "Sand" or "Some Velvet Morning." Now you're getting closer.

There is no way to describe the genius of Lee Hazlewood.

And this is the album to get if you want to understand it. An album all about a breakup, with narrative asides before and after every song. From the lovely menace of "I'm Glad I Never" to the rueful regret of "I'd Rather Be Your Enemy" this album is pure greatness through and through.

Not country. Not rock. Not folk. Sort of like all of those, but oh so much more. It's the music you get when someone who knows a lot of things about a lot of things gets behind the boards and in front of the mic. I mean it...everything about this album is pure and golden and can never age.

Yes. Lee Hazlewood is the man I want to grow up to be.

You should want to be him too.

Listen to this and you will.

5 out of 5 stars A Jerry Masterpiece.......2004-12-23

This CD has incredible sound quality, and provides new and old Deadheads with melodic tracks that are complimented both by Jerry's prime vocals, and guitar playing. It's a side of music that is sometimes shown through the Grateful Dead, but perfected when Jerry goes solo.

Favorite tracks: Blue Yodel No. 9, Deep Elem Blues, I've Been All Around This World, Ripple

Recommended all fans of Jerry and his music.

3 stars? This album is definitely worthy of a higher rating than that. Anything with "Deep Elem Blues" on it deserves at least 4 stars! The previous reviewer was right on when he said that if you like "Reckoning" you'll like this. And since I believe that "Reckoning" is one of the Dead's best albums (if not THE best), then I have to give this one a big, hearty thumbs up!
