Wrapped in cellophane, everything about Jamie Broza's Bad Mood Mom screams buy me--the title reaches out and grabs any mother who has known the pleasure of yelling "Put a lid on it!," and the hilarious cover art is recognizable to fans of Jamie Lee Curtis's children's books as the handiwork of Laura Cornell. But take it home and you're guaranteed to groan. Sometimes it's in a good way--who doesn't want to roll her eyes and shout "I hear you" over a lyric like, "Can't we have a little peace and quiet in the car?" Other times, it's a groan of exhaustion over Broza's bland sing-speak. The songs scurry in and out of rock, jazz, and disco-lite. All are cleverly written, but tempo and vocal talent are issues here. Keep it in your rotation for the kind of wry chuckle that can lift you out of a mild funk, but plan to get funky elsewhere.--Tammy La Gorce

Okay, but not a favorite.......2006-07-09

My kids, especially my 6-year-old, like this CD. The lyrics are clever and funny, and what kid doesn't enjoy belting out "Are We There Yet?" or "Bad Mood Mom" as she rides down the freeway? I don't hate this CD, but it's definitely not my favorite, either. The songs get repetitive, and the last several are pretty boring (even my kids much prefer the first half of the CD). If you wanted to go to the effort of making your kids their own roadtrip mix CD, the first several songs on this disc would be good additions.

Someone gave me this CD and when I first played it for my daughter, age 6, she listened to it again and again. The best songs..."I'm Six," and "Little Sister" for instance, really get into the head of a child. I enjoy the music too and think this CD deserves wider distribution.

This CD reminds me of the mediocre musical theatre that I used to feel compelled to sit politely through because my best friend was in the cast. I listened (politely) to the whole thing before consigning it to the box for the church rummage sale. It's probably too sophisticated to appeal to little kids but it's not sophisticated enough for adults. I frankly found it a little irritating. But what do I know? I can't stand "The Wheels on the Bus," either.

The innate theatricality of this delightful collection of songs will appeal to grown-ups as well as kids. The pieces address such everyday concerns as irritating siblings, the frantic early morning stress of getting up and organized on time for school, car travel ("Are We There yet?"), and other familiar family problems. (Moms will be glad to hear there are "Bad Mood Dads" as well.) Writer-producer Jamie Broza also celebrates the thrill of getting another year older ("I am Five" and others)--a thrill for kids at least, and in songs like "Alone" and "Secrets," the themes cross all age boundaries. The orchestrations are original and lively, and Broza should consider working the collection into a full-length musical. With its melodic tunes, lively rhythms, wonderful orchestrations, and witty lyrics, it would be equally suitable for the stage. And if he doesn't use these songs, he shows great promise as the composer/lyricist of a future show. An added plus: the terrific cover art and brochure inside.

All I can say is that Jamie Broza must be living at our home. He has captured so many of the joys/frustrations/hilarious & ridiculous moments of parenting, that it's scary...scary fun that is!

Every song has something really special about it. We have way, way too many kids CDs in our house and car, yet somehow this one has stayed on the playlist for over 6 months, the best endorsement possible. Hope another album will be coming soon.

This stuff is very plain. I know that's what The Mom & Dads took pride in, but still. Anybody that fancies polka would be much better served buying a Frankie Yankovic album.

I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is remotely receptive to healing solutions other than traditional medicine. In my case the visualizations on this CD completely turned around a failing IVF cycle. In my case the doctor was ready to cancel after 5 days. I started using the CD and the tests that are used to measure progress totally turned around. We thought that we would get 7-8 viable eggs. We got 15 instead, 13 of them fertilized and 4 made it to the blastocyst stage. For a 40+ woman of "advanced maternal age" these results were truly exceptional.

While this description may be rather technical for those not dealing with infertility themselves, I wanted to share these numbers for a reason. I think it proves that the connection between body and mind is truly powerful and mystical. Jo-Jo's music and Mary's guided visualizations allowed me to make hope and desire into reality. If you want to be healed you need to try this CD.

This CD is uniquely relaxing. I don't know of others out there that are like this. I have difficulty meditating, but the meditation on this CD along with the cello playing music, quite literally, carry me away from my busy world and help me focus on simply being - something that a mom of a 2 year old really needs.

Great for babies adopted from China!.......2006-04-08

We adopted our daughter in China in February 2006, and started playing this CD for her as soon as we came home. She absolutely LOVES it! She dances and claps her hands happily whenever we play it, and it is great as background music for calm playtime. I believe it is comforting to her to hear this music in Mandarin. Also, it is worth the price for one of the songs - "Mama Hao" - alone! Mama Hao is a very common lullaby in China, and my daughter DEFINITELY recognized this song and still becomes quite animated when it comes on.
As far as mom and dad....the CD is growing on me and I'm even starting to learn the words and sing along. Highly recommended for China adoptive parents!

Another enjoyable Chinese Music cd........2005-08-03

What is really nice about this cd is that it not only has traditional Chinese songs and other songs children know and love like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, It's A Small World and Happy Birthday! It also has the song Two Tigers and Pulling the Turnip which are songs we know from another excellent Chinese Cd.

The traditional songs are not just traditional Chinese songs, but also include a Polish Children's song. The children's voices are sweet sounding and not only do you enjoy terrific music, you and your child are also learning Chinese.

Very nice for the car ride with kids..........2005-04-12

This CD has very nice songs performed by a talented China children's choir. This CD along with "Ni Hao, My Friends" music CD are two "must-haves" for people who want to teach their kids mandarin. My three year-old doesn't speak much Chinese, but he can sing most songs with pretty good pronounciation. He is always asking what does this song mean and the booklet has the English translation! Strongly recommend.
