Until its shallow posturing gets to be just too much, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too is fodder for a decent game of Spot the Influence. Singer/songwriter Gregg Alexander's admittedly well-crafted project is indebted to the vaguely funky pop-rock of World Party. But despite airplay for the single "You Get What You Give," he isn't tuneful enough to make his empty social pronouncements stick as more than fleeting entertainment, and when he starts dissing his hooky betters Courtney Love and Beck as "fakes," there's little to do but laugh. At him, not with him. --Rickey Wright

I thought a little Nacho Libre to start it off would be good. Anyway this album is so good, I am pissed they disbanded, I hope some day he does another album.

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece!!!.......2007-04-22

I purchased this CD when it first came out and still listen to it almost 8 years later. Their sound is unique and simply put, this album rocks! Too bad they decided to disband. With music like this, these guys could have become SUPERSTARS! You will not be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Each song a masterpiece.......2007-02-24

Like many people who bought "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too", I was drawn in by the hopeful and inspiring "You Get What You Give"... I've had this CD for nine years now and it's one I could listen to over and over again and never tire of. From the jubilant "Mother We Just Can't Get Enough" to the lovely "Crying Like A Church On Monday", every song is worth repeated listens. Standouts include the aforementioned hit single; the insanely catchy "Jehovah Made This Whole Joint For You"; "Someday We'll Know"- a beautiful, moody tune which has been covered quite a bit considering its relative obscurity; the offbeat, almost experimental sounding title track, with its bizarre acoustic guitar riff, wholly improvised lyrics and trippy keyboards; and "Flowers" because of the contrast between the chilled out verse and the explosive, unorthodox but nonetheless gorgeous chord progression used in the chorus. One of my favorite things about "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too" is the heavy use of piano- it's more of a lead instrument in this case, with guitars providing background. It's a shame Gregg Alexander decided to dissolve this project because the world needs more music like this.

5 out of 5 stars Please Sir, can I have some more?.......2007-02-04

It's a rare thing for a new band to come along and grab my attention and keep it. Very regrettably, I'll never know if the New Radicals would have done that. What I do know, however, is that I've never tired of "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too," and I'm growing fonder of it with every passing year. It was sad, sad day when Gregg Alexander decided to call it quits. :(

With the swaggering chords of the opening "Rock'N'Roll Star," Oasis announced that big, brash Brit rock was here to stay--at least for a few years. They wore their rock & roll with an angry young sneer, a Mancunian petulance wedded to a vision of cathartic release. Their supersonic two-guitar attack took them "Up in the Sky," where they would "Live Forever" or burn out in a blaze of alcoholic glory. Noel Gallagher's songs weren't subtle--or shy of overt plagiarism--but, spat out in the Lennonesque snarl of little brother Liam, they took on a venomous power that had millions of young Brits taking them at their own arrogant word. In the U.S., meanwhile, the response was more Maybe than Definitely. --Barney Hoskyns

Mark Isham's highly emotional score for the film CRASH will move you in ways you never expected. Beautiful cinematic passages collide with ethnic voices evoking the powerful imagery of the film. The album is complimented by the original song "In the Deep" by Bird York and "Maybe Tomorrow" by Stereophonics.

    4 out of 5 stars A good soundtrack..........2007-05-06

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite film scores from Mark Isham.......2007-02-25

Mark Isham is quickly becoming one of my favorite composers. His work on the indie film "The Cooler" introduced me to his talents and I enjoyed what I heard. It wasn't until "Crash" did I really start taking notice of his work. Mark's work on "Crash" is a mix of ambient and classical with a glimmer of Middle Eastern (like on the song "Flames"). A lot of film composers have a terrible habit of creating loud, bombastic music that simply overwhelms the film and the person watching the film. Mark avoids the bombastic trappings of Hans Zimmer and John Williams by creating a more lush, haunting, minimal score that will leave a profound, moving effect on the filmgoer. One of the best songs on the album is "Flames" a gorgeous Middle Eastern-influenced track with ethereal female vocals that reminded me of Azam Ali and Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance. My other favorite song on the cd is "In the Deep" by Bird York. The song is a lovely folk/pop/jazz song that captures the emotional turmoil that occurs through out the film. I wasn't too wild about The Stereophonics track. It kinda killed the intimate sound Mark Isham created. At least Bird York's song had that same lush, intimate, atmospheric sound. While "Crash" wasn't perfect by all means, the music itself is perfect in every sense of the word at least to me it is. Too bad I can't say the same for his recent work for "The Black Dahlia".

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best ever.......2007-01-09

Every now and again a movie comes along that impacts you so personally and deeply, you cannot ignore, or ever forget what it meant to you. This is one of those movies.
Crash will take you down to your very soul then drag you back kicking and screaming to reality and wanting to run away and hide.
Dealing with society's inability to overcome prejudice on a very personal level, Crash exhibits the ability to make you examine not only yourself, but everyone around you. You ARE racist. Every thought you have tells you that, good or bad.
There is no one actor that stands out above the rest in this movie, all are treated by the director as being of the same importance, but the viewer WILL identify with at least one of them. All put in performances well above that expected. From Sandra Bullocks affluent life down to Matt Dillons survival in a dingy apartment, through Don Cheadles family dynamic to Jennifer Espisito's implicit Racism, you will see what ordinary America is really like. How we all interact with each other on a day-to-day basis, how the decisions we make effact not only ourselves, but others around us.
It would be impossible to give the plot in less than 5,000 words, but this film has gained 3 Oscars, 36 other awards and has 56 nominations, and it was worth more.
THE film of 2005, will be in the top 250 for all time movies.

    3 out of 5 stars a profound disappointment,,,.......2006-12-27

There just isn't enough variety here to make the music memorable, and the mood is similar throughout. One looks in vain for a memorable melody or piquant harmony. anything but the doodling we have here which sounds like that of a 3rd rate composer. Perhaps this music works as background; as the "main event" the Cd is a "crash" ing bore!

Working Classical might just be the perfect outlet for the composing skills of Sir Paul McCartney. Here, the former Beatles (and, let's not forget, Wings) member scales things down from his previous classical-music endeavors--the overweight works Liverpool Oratorio and Standing Stone. In the hands of the Loma Mar Quartet chamber group and the London Symphony Orchestra, McCartney's shorter compositions sound all the more intimate (and effective). Album opener "Junk" is a simple waltz dating from the composer's days with the Fab Four, performed here by the Quartet with short-but-sweet results. "A Leaf" is another waltz motif, this one performed with a full orchestra. McCartney pop favorites "Warm and Beautiful," "Somedays," "She's My Baby," and "The Lovely Linda" all get chamber-music treatments that bring out their compositional beauty. And, while influences seem to range from Janácek to Morricone, there's no doubting that McCartney knows how to write a convincing ditty--pop or otherwise. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Format to Present Paul's Genius.......2006-11-20

Confused recent reviews have argued about whether this is classical or MUZAK. Whatever you want to call the form, the music itself is brilliant and inspired. We would not give two shakes about these tunes that are in some cases thirty-six years old if they had no draw to our hearts and no merit. This album would have been released and forgotten and that definitely has not happened.

I have just listened to the broadcast of Paul's most recent classical work Ecce Cor Meum from Carnegie Hall in New York (Nov. 14, 2006) and prior to the main piece, the soprano Kate Royal and another vocalist sang these songs accompanied by the same quartet that appears on Working Classical. It was essentially a live version of this album with vocals and it was brilliant as is the original Working Classical CD. My Love, Warm and Beautiful, Calico Skies and Junk come off as extraordinarily brillant as they do on this recording. These songs, whether in this form or closer to their original form, will live forever and no amount of "orchestration" can kill them.

The same reviewer wrote: "it is a sign of the decline of serious culture that so many people actually believe that this MUZAK is classical music". How pompous some classical music fans are that they cannot conceive of any important music being written in modern times. Another reviewer wrote: "an orchestrated pop song is still a pop song". Perhaps, but that is not a fatal critcism that would obviate the joy these melodies give and emotions they hold. On the contrary, this is not elevator music. Elevator music is not compelling, its not memorble and its not written by a genius named Paul McCartney.

If you were to take a sonata by a well-known classical composer and play it among 'elevator music' with an overblown song like "Feelings", for example, would that turn it into elevator music? The discerning among us know the difference. An orchestrated pop song is not just MUZAK. That is just simple-minded. This idea comes from John Lennon's song "How Do You Sleep?" during which he idenifies Paul's music as MUZAK. John later denounced and rejected the sentiments of that song.

It turns out Paul is the coolest Beatle because he is the least affected, the least afraid to worry about what people would think about his doing something like this recording. He is not worried about the posturing associated with the tough guy rock and roll image. He is first and foremost an artist and musician--one of rare quality and talent.

1 out of 5 stars This is NOT classical music.......2006-11-07

It is a sign of the decline of serious culture that so many people actually believe that this MUZAK is classical music. As another reviewer wrote: an orchestrated pop song is still a pop song. It's so funny: in the 1960s, kids used to laugh at their parents for being so square for listening to 'elevator music'(i.e., orchestrated pop songs) and not being cool and listening the Beatles...and now those kids are adults and they are listening to...elevator music written by one of the Fab Four!!

5 out of 5 stars one of my favoirte cds.......2006-08-05

sir paul writes such beautiful melodies. found this in the library and just loved it. it is such a peaceful pleasure to listen to. you will find some familiar tunes and other new ones. i find it moving and lovely.

5 out of 5 stars Is it possible to wear out a CD?.......2006-03-26

I first heard the song "Tuesday" on my "wake-up" radio station. I was amazed and thrilled when I found Paul McCartney as the truly gifted composer, proven by this glorious work. Some of the tracks are reminiscent of old Beatles songs.
His music possesses a gentle whimsy and include orchestral or chamber versions of some of his recognizable songs such as "Junk," "My Love" and "Maybe I'm Amazed."
I'd read all the reviews and have included a snippet from one which I am happy to share... this just says it all...

    Gerald R Steele
"An extension of an event, begun in the sixties, called, "The Beatles", Paul McCartney has confirmed the importance of the original Phenomena. Some of us realized that from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" a culmination of music, from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Gershwin, and Vaughn-Williams, was emerging.
One can only hope for more. This tribute to Linda may begin something that will reference a "pop-culture" that included "The Beatles" as the beginning to music that truly responds to "the inner-ear" of, at least, three generations. This is the stuff that lives for thousands of years." Thank you Gerald. Imagine, touching the hearts of THREE generations?

My own love for this album is enhanced by my friendships as I compare my feelings, during listening, to them. A dear friend, Linda, rides her mechanical steed every morning and I think of her as I listen to "The Lovely Linda". I can see her in the morning dawn, peddling along and enjoying the morning and life. "Calico Skies" is reminiscent of all my Mitford pals! So dignified and serene! I'll probably wear out this CD from playing it so much.

    5 out of 5 stars It's absolutely beautiful!.......2003-01-22

There are no words to describe this CD. It is emotional, strong, beautiful, and stunning. I would have NEVER expected violin and McCartney to be so prodigious together. I highly recommend this CD, if you can appreciate classical music and Mccartney music, in any way.

On this, their second major label release, Barenaked Ladies get romantic without slipping into sappy sentimentality. Wonderfully witty love songs like "Jane," "These Apples," "A," and "Alternative Girlfriend" explore the pitfalls of modern relationships with pointed candor and remarkable eloquence. Throughout, the troupe displays its expected high level of musicianship and vocal expertise, delivering full-bodied performances on every track. As always, Ed Robertson and Steven Page dominate the vocals, turning in particularly fabulous work on "Am I the Only One?" and "The Wrong Man Was Convicted." Perhaps the "hit" from this disc is "Life, In a Nutshell," a charming ditty about, surprisingly enough, a happy relationship. What bliss! --L.A. Smith

4 out of 5 stars Valiant Sophomore Effort, However Flawed.......2006-12-18

The second album from the Ladies had a few very strong songs on it, but seemed to lack the strength that their later efforts have shown. It may be an unfair standard to put the band against itself when rating it, as this may be a better than average album for most bands, or maybe even great, but BNL has released much stronger albums since making this, with the exception of Born on a Pirate Ship. This is still worth buying, especially for fans of any of their non-radio stuff, but I wouldn't recommend it as the first album you pick up by them if you're new to the band. I don't see an album by BNL that isn't worth buying eventually. Even the Xmas album is worth buying, if only for sheer amusement.

Highlights of Maybe You Should Drive include three very strong songs: These Apples, A, and Life, in a Nutshell. Other enjoyable songs on the album are Jane, Intermittently, You Will Be Waiting, Everything Old is New Again, and Alternative Girlfriend.

    Overall: Weak 4 (75% - 3.75 / 5)

    5 out of 5 stars Outshines Gordon.......2006-02-22

Overall I'd have to say this is my all time favorite BNL album. There's just something about this album that really gets me in the gut. I know everyone thinks Gordon is just fantastic, and it is great, but this album seems to me to be a more polished and serious effort by BNL. There isn't one song on this CD that I dislike, and lyrically I think it's wonderful. "Maybe You Should Drive" is one of BNL's lesser known albums, and if you really like Maroon or Everything to Everyone, then perhaps this isn't your cup of tea, and you'll probably be disappointed. To me however, I think this is BNL at it's best, and I for one would like to hear more music like this from them.

4 out of 5 stars Slumps a bit but sophomore disc still worth your time.......2005-08-25

Time to do the dreaded "followup album" after the inventive and offkilter pop of GORDON. The Ladies can't deliver one as strong as that gem but this is hardly without its charms.

    HIGHLIGHTS:
Commitment phobic "Jane" is a standout ("Jane decided only cowards stay, while traitors run..") as is the catchy "These Apples" (I think it's an oil and water love song from a simpleton but I'm not certain on this), "Alternative Girlfriend" gently mocks a paramour ("You live above your dad's four-car garage/With your vinyl and imaginary entourage"). The sparse acoustic "Am I the Only One?" is the slightly paranoid questioning of a lover worried his girl might have a man on the side. ("Am I the only one who loves when you leave/Your hair down in front of your eyes?") "The Wrong Man was Convicted" finds our protagonist lamenting his lost love over a gentle marching rhythm. ("The wrong man lies beside you/And waits for you to wake/And all because I lacked conviction,The judgment's my mistake")

    LOWS:
"Intermittently" is lounge jazz that comes off like an inferior version of MAROON's "Conventioneers". "Little Tiny Song" is slight at best..it simply isn't memorable.

    BOTTOM LINE:
It's a sophomore slump but GORDON would be hard for ANY band to followup. When all is said and done, it's quite listenable and BNL fans should enjoy it along with fans of quirky pop in general.

    3 1/2 stars

5 out of 5 stars An album that carries special sentimental value........2004-07-05

Two of the songs on this album (Everything Old is New Again and The Wrong Man Was Convicted) got me through a particularly difficult breakup with my girlfriend at the time. Needless to say, this album has a special place in my collection. It's a good listen all-around, and if you're in a difficult emotional state like I was, it may strike a chord with you as well. BNL has always been one of my favorite bands, and this album is a prime example of the way that BNL pours their collective heart and soul into their work.

5 out of 5 stars This album should've crossed over..........2004-05-06

The Barenaked Ladies struck big with "Gordon" in 1992, introducing their trademark humor, cleverness, quirkiness, and excellent musical craftsmanship to become the biggest band in the Great White North. But it took a while for the Ladies to cross the borders of their giant homeland. However, the millions of Canadian fans and the thousands of non-Canadian fans wanted more, and they successfully delivered with "Maybe You Should Drive". Their sophomore album failed to make the dough, but passed with flying colors in quality. Right from the front album cover you know these guys are something else. This is one of the best albums BNL has ever released, and there's a good reason why. They show they're more than capable of writing thought-provoking pop songs, and they musical virtuosity has greatly improved as well. The album opens up with the fantastic "Jane" and the severely overlooked "Intermittently", which wins by a hair compared to the album's most popular tune, "Alternative Girlfriend". "These Apples" is a fine song about miscommunication between men and women, and the banjo solo is hilariously blissful. One wonders how Ed Robertson delivered that with a straight face. "A" is a clever song with a bit of a jazzy Latin feel to it, and "You Will Be Waiting" is also great. "Am I The Only One?" and "The Wrong Man Was Convicted" are very provocative and thoughtful, though "Am I..." is more profound, telling the tale of the aftershock of the death of Ed Robertson's brother. Overall, "Maybe..." opens up the band's more sensitive side, and is an overlooked gem in a field of colorless stones. Do yourself a favor, and check it out.

    5 out of 5 stars Great DVD........2007-02-21

I bought this DVD/CD back in 2003 when it came out, and I cant count how many times I've watched it. It gives insight to the Used's past, their rise to fame, a live show, and a funny hidden clip. The live CD contains unreleased demo's like "Just a Little" and a piano piece by Bert, "Sometimes I Just Go For It." Must buy for anyone interested in the band.

    3 out of 5 stars READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-03-19

O.K. I bought Maybe Memories at fye because that is the only place i could find it. (...)How insane is that! I love the Used so i had to have it so i looked at the conetents and it says live footage,videos,2 making the videos, and a documentory and a CD with unreleased tracks and live songs. So i think well this will be worth it. So i watch it and the documenaty portion is amazing with home videos, watching them record and Bert with his shirt off!!SWEET! So i am all excited for the live part and it is 3 songs!!! THATS IT!!! Granted they were amazing but still!!!!Bullet in a bible is 2 hours of live GREEN DAY and interviews and stuff (...)So now in thinking the making of the video is gonna be great and it sucks! They barly interview the band! The second one is even worse! So i watch the videos and they are good but come on ive already seen them before. The C.D. only has 10 songs on it only 2 live and some unrealsed, but only 10. I reccomend this only if you are a hardcore Used fan (...). The only thing that is keeping me from HATING fye right now is that they are in partnership with FUSE T.V. FUSE rocks!! I love Stevens Untitled Rock Show!

    5 out of 5 stars Surprising!!!.......2005-12-24

No, I don't mean surprising as in The Used put out a good CD (They always do :)) But most live CD's suck. This one was great!!! They are very good live and it is also very interesting hearing their stories. Actually...I'm gonna have to say they are the best live band I've ever seen. I've seen Underoath, A Static Lullaby, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and many, many more. So I think that my opion is very unbiest (Even though The Used is my favorite band)
Also the extra tracks are really great especially "Just A Little" When I heard this song I was astounded they left it off their debut album. I think this song is amazing! It's got a great flow to it and is still a very heavy song. The screaming in it is absolutely outstanding and the chorus is just so darn catchy.
Another song that is very good on this album is "Alone This Holiday" It breaks the sometimes ritual standard of Christmas songs by providing an upbeat tune (with the occasional breakdown chorus) with less than upbeat lyrics.
"Sometimes I Just Go For It" Wow! My brother first played this song to me and asked me to guess who it was. I said "Beethoven" and he said "Nope, Bert McCracken." I was stunned. It might not be the kind of music you like if you are into The Used usual stuff but it's still fantastic.
The DVD is hilarious and the live performance on it is unbelievable.
This is a must-have for any The Used fan. If you don't know who The Used is you should definitely buy their self-titled debut album. Just go to the search bar here on Amazon.com, type The Used, scroll down to music in the bar next to the word Search in the upper left corner, then search and click on the CD of The Used. Listen to some of their music and if you like it BUY THIS!!!

5 out of 5 stars Best live cd ever!!!!.......2005-12-08

This is one of the best live albums that I have heard ever. The lead singer dosen't need anything done to his voice. He is a really good singer live. and the other tracks on the cd are good too. like alone this hoilday is really good, bulimic (home demo), sometimes I just go for it is really good. That is just some of the good songs on this album. The dvd is really good it tells the life story of where they all came from. And it has the making if there videos. Hope this helps someone.

    4 out of 5 stars A good combo...buuuuuut..........2005-09-30

I have been a fan of The Used for a very long time now and I must admit...this cd is awesome. However it's lacking something or rather...it needs to lack something. At the end of the DVD there's a huge fat lady butt-naked! It really disgusts me! Other than that, the DVD is really worth it. The CD is one of the best things that they have put out. Believe me, If you are a fan of these guys, buy this! Even if you are just starting to like them...buy this! It's really awesome! I had the priveledge of seeing these guys live...absolutley magical! BUY THIS!

To tell the truth, the only reason I even listened to this disc in the store is because I spotted the cover, and wondered what the hell a guy who looked like that could sound like. I had a gushing smile on my face as I realized there was real talent and expression behind Moondog's odd facade. The first album on this disc (there are two herein) is made up of more "orchestral" material like none you've ever heard before (one of these tracks "stamping Grounds" is in "The Big Lebowski". The second album is made up of a series of short "rounds"; cyclical songs with naturally repetitive compositions (think row row row your boat, or three blind mice). Due to the familiar nature of such song forms, and the unique compositions employed by Moondog, the second album is quite buoyant and joyful. This is an all around great and very familiar listening experience, and quite a timeless set of albums. Get it while you still can!

5 out of 5 stars As close to perfect as possible..........2006-07-29

The Alkaline Trio is one of my all time favorite bands. This cd is absolutely amazing. Each song is well crafted, and Matt Skiba's lyrics are stronger here than on much of their newer stuff.

"Keep 'em Coming"- The cd starts out strong with the song "Keep 'em Coming". This song is a perfect introduction to the ALkaline Trio.

"Madam Me" is great, one of my top 5 songs on the cd. With heavy guitar riffing over a driving bass line, with strong lyrics to match.

"You've got so far to go"- is one of Dan's songs, and it is amazing as well. Though Matt Skiba gets much of the recognition, Dan Adriano deserves much more credit, as he often upstages Matt's lyrics.

"F--- You Aurora"- This could be my favorite alkaline trio song, from any cd. Beautiful and Mysterious, this is the Alkaline Trio at their best.

"Sleepy Head" showcases the edge that the Alkaline Trio had on their songs pre-"From Here to Infrimary". I kove that album, but "Sleepyhead" is a fantastic, beautiful song... if only more bands could write like this.

"Maybe I'll Catch Fire"- The title track is another one of Dan's song. Once again, Dan displays his excellent song-crafting ability. Dan does a very stong job on vocals, though I usually tend to prefer Matt's voice.

"Tuck Me in"- A faster, punkier, moshier song. A very good break from the cycle track.

"She Took Him to the Lake"- Another of Dan's, this song starts out very similar to "Tuck Me In"'s style. It is not my favorite on the cd, music wise, but the lyrics are great. After the song grows on you a little bit, though, you can start to recognize the subtle, impressive moments of the song.

"5-3-10-4"- Following in the tradition of the past few songs, this is another punk rock song. This is probably my fourth or fifth favorite songs on the cd, with a strong chorus and scathing, aggressive vocals by Matt.

"Radio"- There isnt much to say about this that hasnt been said already. The softest song on the cd, but no less intense, emotionally. Matt Skiba paints a vivid picture with his lyrics. The chorus, as well, is a sing-a-long, agressive chorus that stands out as one of their all time bests.

Overall, this cd is probably their best cd, in my oppinion. Not to knock their new albums, but the edge found on this album, along with Godda--it, has dulled slightly after this release.

If you dont have this cd already, even if you arent an Alkaline trio fan, you should definately buy this right away. It will convert the non-believers.

      -peace

5 out of 5 stars Still The Best Trio Album!!!.......2006-02-20

I have been a fan of Alkaline Trio for awhile now and I've heard every one of their albums several times. In every one they have a certain unexplained genius that flows forth, but with "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" they jump beyond that, into a sort of world all it's own. It's a beautifully depressing record for the down hearted. The songs "She Took Him To The Lake", "F+++ You Aurora" and "Radio" are my personal favorites and contain some of the best lyrics they've written, but you really need to listen to this one as a whole to truly appreciate the deepness. I would recommend this over all other trio records, truly their best.

      5 out of 5 stars just a retort.......2006-02-09

this goes out to, Ryan C. Dunisch. The afformentioned song "Radio" that was done better by Hot Water music, that was Alkaline Trio, it was just a live recording. As for the rest of the CD I found it to be pure Punk ingenuity

      5 out of 5 stars woah!.......2005-09-10

awesome awesome cd. my personal favorite off this album is of course, radio. what genius!

4 out of 5 stars Great earlier work from a great band........2005-07-17

      Really about 3.6 stars.

I have been kind of working backwards with Alkaline Trio-- I started with Good Mourning, which I loved, then got Crimson, which at first I didn't like as much but now really love, so I got Maybe I'll Catch Fire and am waiting for Goddammit to come it too.

At first listen I noticed right away how far the Trio have come in tightening up their sound-- mostly in the vocals realm as Maybe I'll Catch Fire is almost a little raw and wobbly both in the singers' tone and harmonizing-- but this was 5 years before the polished Crimson CD.

So I think this is a great reference listen for the Trio-- you can see they are building up their musical base and there are some great, catchy numbers here-- "Keep 'Em Coming" is a great opener, "You've Got So Far To Go" sounds like Blink until the vocals come in, and "F$#@ You Aurora" is a classic.

So I am going to continue exploring Alkaline Trio-- every CD by them is great so far, and stands on its own although the formula, which has developed through the records, is standard-- but it is also what makes them appealing musically.
