Why in the world does someone sign up on a site and write one review of an album they have never heard by an artist they are woefully ignorant about?

This isnt really my kind of music ... [I'm much more likely to pop on some black or death metal] ... but I still have some really great childhood memories of this artists music being played by my mother. Country-ish gospel music that certainly deserves better than some 1 star review by someone that doesnt even know what they are talking about.

For those who do not know who Christy Lane is, this CD is a great place to start. She is a true gospel legend. I grew up with her lovely voice. From entertaining the troops of Vietnam to filling my childhood home with her music, I am glad to find a greatest hits collection worthy of her legacy.

How can somebody that has never written a song or to my knowledge ever performed a song in any kind of medium other than self promoted CD's and Commercials actually release a "Greatest Hits" CD? I don't get it.

Only reason I give this CD 1 star is because it's the lowest it can possibly go....and I havn't even heard this CD.

          Avoid this like the plague! Little Richard, one of the greatest pioneers of early rock 'n roll, is not properly represented here. These versions were recorded by Richard in the early 60's and are completely inferior to his stellar 1950's recordings. Let's take "The Girl Can't Help It," one of the greatest rock songs sung by anybody, anywhere. The original 1956 version is a superlative record, infectious, fun and nearly perfect. This VeeJay 1964 version stinks up the joint.

          An appreciation of Little Richard is essential in understanding rock 'n roll. His influence on the Beatles is particularly important. Don't shortcharge yourself by wasting money on this collection, seek out Richard's Speciality Sides, available ... and he'll knock your socks off.

          This collection is obviously similiar to the scores of reissues of Little Richard's Vee Jay tracks, usually titled "The Best Of...", "His Greatest...", etc. If you really want to hear his original classics, look for the Specialty sides. If you want to hear many interesting remakes and mostly successful attempts at progressive Rock and Soul, dig the more unfamiliar titles in this bunch, particularly "Talkin' 'Bout Soul" and "Groovy Little Suzy". One number, the slow blues ballad "I Don't Know What You've Got", unfortunately presented here in its abbreviated form, was a modest Soul hit in '65, and features Jimi Hendrix and (reportedly) Billy Preston and Don Covay - harmony vocal. Today it's considered a SOUL classic - an amazing feat for the Quasar of *R-O-C-K*! An exciting jazz/blues is the Eddie Cleanhead Vinson "Cherry Red", an intense vocal and powerful arrangement, anticipating the later work of Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Chicago, and countless others. On the down side, there is a completely rejectable remake of "The Girl Can't Help It". This seems inexcusable when other quite brilliant LR Vee Jay tracks ("Lawdy, Miss Clawdy", "You Better Stop", etc.) were not included. Maybe one of these days we'll actually get true stereo on the recuts and alternate and previously unreleased takes of perhaps the most recycled material in the history of the record business!

              Nobody seems to be visitng this one anyway, but anyway, George Jones didn't release the song written by fellow artist Dickey Lee until 1962 (She Thinks I Still Care). Sammi Smith didn't go to Nashville until 1967 so who did she record this song for? And being alternate takes of the originals. somebody who had the rights to these tunes should be PUNISHED. Stay away.

              Don't make the same mistake I did. Like so many of the so called "Original Artists" LP's featuring their hits of "(insert year")that kicked around 20 years ago, this CD is a prime example of why it's so difficult to have sympathy for the record companies in their war with music downloaders. Yes, indeed, these are all the "original artists", folks. Trouble is, none of the cuts contained on this CD are the original hits. They are all "outakes" or alternate/demo versions (all inferior) of the originals. I feel ripped off!
