Scratching the surface.......2003-02-21

This album is only the tip of the iceberg as far as how deep and talented yukon is. I've been to some of their concerts, and they can entertain an audience with hours of great music. This album is only about 40-50 minutes long, so there's a lot more to experience from them than just what's on here. The singer has an wonderful, soulful voice; the guitarist blends intricate single note passages with full, embodying chords and careful slide phrases to give the music a warm and harmonious presence; the banjo is well played and perfectly placed throughout the recording; and the rhythm section is unsurpassed in its symbiosis-complete with punchy, grooving bass support lines(and the occasional solo!), and drumming that compliments what is happening in the music better than anything you have heard in this genre before. Oh yes, this is a good album.

This cd is a really great variety of tracks done by perhaps one of the most talented groups of musicians ever. The songs are written by this band and then performed in the most original varieties that I have heard in a long while. I actually got out to hear the band live after purchasing the cd a few months earlier. WOW! Hard to believe that one stage could hold so much talent. Purchase this cd and begin to enjoy this band....then seek out one of their live shows for a REAL treat. You will not be disappointed.

I am really enjoying this cd. It is one of the most innovative and exciting cd's that I have purchased in a long time. I have not seen this group live yet but I would love to catch them soon. They are really great musicians and I love the creativity of their songs.
