This is a very good product.I liked it so much I ordered a second one for a friend of mine.

5 out of 5 stars Gospel music at its best.......2007-05-13

I have never heard the Lord's praises sung more beautifully. Highly recommended collection. The live version of "How Great Thou Art" from 'Elvis In Concert' is a powerful take on the recorded version.

Did you know that Elvis Presley's four Grammy nominations (and two wins) for "Best Sacred or Inspirational Performance" were his ONLY Grammy nominations? Yes, it's true. Elvis' gospel recordings are among his most heartfelt performances. This two CD collection features all the songs from the Peace in the Valley EP, the His Hand in Mind LP, the How Great Thou Art LP, the He Touched Me album and most of his other gospel recordings; including a previously unreleased jam session between Elvis and the Stamps, which was filmed for the documentary Elvis On Tour. Great stuff, but I would recommend getting the three CD collection called Peace in the Valley: The Complete Gospel Recordings. That collection has everything from this collection, plus: the gospel songs from the Million Dollar Quartet jam session, several home recordings, four songs from Elvis movies, "Peace in the Valley" live on the Ed Sullivan Show, "Who Am I?", "Life", "I Got a Feelin' in My Body", two songs from Las Vegas rehearsals, the live version of "Help Me", the "Gospel Medley" from the 1968 Comeback Special, an off-the-cuff performance of "The Lord's Prayer" and the live version of "How Great Thou Art" from the Elvis in Concert television special. Whew! But if you don't want those songs, this collection will be good enough for you.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING GRACE: ELVIS SACRED PERFORMANCES.......2007-01-09

I loved all of Elvis's music; however, this is the most moving music I HAVE EVER HEARD. When he sings How Great Thou Art -- there isn't any artist that could come close to performing the song as he does. He is magnificient.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Grace.......2007-01-05

I didn't know whether I'd like "religious music" by Elvis, I'd only heard his movie tunes & of course the songs we all know - Hound Dog, etc. I bought this while persuing my personal religious journey, I like Elvis, figured this would be okay to get inspired with. Whoah!!! Elvis usually takes a song makes it his own, sometimes you don't recognize it. He doesn't do that with sacred music. What he does do is enter the Kingdom through song. He sings with intensity, longing & you do not doubt his own religious conviction. I especially love the gospel tunes of his southern upbringing. My favorite songs are Milky White Way & Lead Me, Guide Me. This is a lot of music on 2 cd's, well worth the money.

Judy Garland's almost 30 years in the movie industry provide some of her brightest moments. And Judy Garland in Hollywood is a near-perfect retrospective of her classic vocals for The Wizard of Oz, For Me and My Gal, Meet Me in St. Louis, Easter Parade, and numerous other celluloid musical favorites. She swings on tunes like "The Trolley Song" (from St. Louis), and on A Star Is Born's "Gotta Have Me Go with You," she shows the vocal finesse and maturity of her later years. Of the 23 cuts, there's not a single dud, and the sound quality is excellent. Few collections more accurately show a career from start to finish: on "The Texas Tornado," we hear a 14-year-old girl brimming with confidence and bounce, but by 1962's "Little Drops of Rain," Garland's pacing has slowed, her voice more full-throated and autumnal. A great set. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars The best of the best of Judy in the movies........2007-04-10

It's been quite easy for me to forget about Judy's incredible acting talent, as I have a lot of non-movie performances on my playlist, so I tend to get wrapped up in her vocal and performing talents. However, with this gorgeous compilation of the best of her movie songs, I also remember what an incredible ACTRESS Judy was as well. Unlike singers and actors today, who either can do one well but not the other or can't do either one very well, Judy was supremely talented at both. And this compilation covers her entire movie career, from The Pigskin Parade, which she made on loan to 20th Century Fox, to her final movie, I Could Go On Singing. Within a period of 1 hour, 18 minutes, and 53 seconds, you can hear her transition from sweet-voiced teenage belter to the deep throaty-voiced woman she would become later in life. You can also hear that she never lost that incredible talent for singing. Even though the sound of her voice changed over the years, it's youthful exuberance stripped away by alcohol, drugs, and just living a tragic life, the emotion and intensity could NOT be stripped from her voice. This collection proves it.

There's not a single dud on these CDs, and the sound quality is excellent. Many of the older tracks do have some hiss to them, as well as the occasional sound anomaly, which is to be expected. However, everything has been beautifully remastered and sounds incredible. The liner notes and packaging PERIOD are also incredible. Very informative and include lots of great pictures. And I might be weird, but I actually like the cover art. It's nice and whimsical, although from far away, or in pics made really small, it CAN make her look like something of a dominatrix. *Now THERE'S a side of Judy you thought you'd never see. ;)* But the cariacature's actually quite cute, and I just think it's a cute cover.

Judy would sadly pass away six years after the last tracks on this compilation were recorded. Although she may be dead in the physical sense, as long as her films and audio recordings like these are available to the public, Judy will never really die in the hearts of the public, and she will never be forgotten. There's only one Judy Garland, and there will never be another like her.

5 out of 5 stars Judy 101.......2006-11-28

Judy Garland was America's finest entertainer ever; and I doubt we'll ever see another one quite like her. She could dance; she could act; but oh, how she could sing! This CD offers people an excellent retrospective of both Judy's best known hits as well as her lesser known songs from her movies.

The CD starts off strong with "The Texas Tornado" recorded in 1936 when Judy was just 14 years old. You'd never know she was an adolescent when she recorded this. Judy's voice at 14 was already extremely powerful and rather mature as well.

The next track is one of my favorites because it is so romantic and sweet: "Dear Mr. Gable/You Made Me Love You (I Didn't Want To Do It.)" The sound is excellent; and the musical arrangement is perfect. The MGM musicians make excellent use of the violins as Judy sings and even speaks a little about her crush on Clark Gable. This track is followed by her infamous ballad, "Over The Rainbow." Judy's voice here is flawless; she sings so beautifully and she emotes so well. Harold Arlen wrote an excellent musical arrangement for "Over The Rainbow" which combined with Judy's voice makes me swear that a magical place located beyond a rainbow is real and not imaginary.

Other classics on this CD include "The Trolley Song" from Meet Me In Saint Louis; "On The Atchison, Topeka, And The Santa Fe" from The Harvey Girls; "Easter Parade" from the movie of the same name; "Get Happy" from the movie Summer Stock and "The Man That Got Away" from A Star Is Born. Nobody but Judy could sing these songs so flawlessly. When Judy sang these songs she just didn't sing the way another singer would. Judy would sing so passionately in such a singularly beautiful, sensitive way that somehow you could instantly identify with her character's joy, her character's wanting to fit in, her character's heartache over a lost love.

The CD boasts some terrific songs that are less well known but just as wonderful. "I'm Nobody's Baby" from Andy Hardy Meets Debutante is a sad song about how she doesn't "fit into" any social scene because she isn't just a kid anymore but she isn't quite an adult yet either. There is also the hauntingly beautiful "Last Night When We Were Young" which is an outtake from the movie In The Good Old Summertime. "Happy Harvest" is a joyful song that Judy performs in the movie Summer Stock; and "By Myself" is a gut-wrenching number from her last film entitled I Could Go On Singing.

Will Friedwald contributes an extensive essay which sticks mostly to Garland's professional career; and there are wonderful photos of Judy as well. There's even a lovely black and white photo of Judy and her two sisters taken in 1942 when Judy was working on the movie entitled Presenting Lily Mars. The songs credits are provided and the recording dates for each song are there as well. Moreover, the sound quality is excellent; the remastering of these tracks to digital form is excellent.

There will never be another Judy. This CD proves it. As you listen to Judy's performances on this CD, you become increasingly impressed and enchanted as you listen to each song. By the time the CD ends you want more just as Judy's audiences always wanted more whenever she gave a live performance. If you like this CD, I highly recommend the two CD set of Judy at Carnegie Hall from 2001 (the fortieth anniversary edition); the CD entitled Classic Garland: Capitol Years 1955-1965 and the CD entitled That Old Feeling: Classic Ballads from the Judy Garland Show. Of course, if you also like those, you'll be well on your way to discovering even more CDs and movies that feature this singularly talented artist, the incomparable Judy Garland.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT CD.......2006-03-01

Judy Garland is a legend. I recommend this CD for any Judy Garland fan. I highly recommend it to all the young people out there who are not familiar with her especially if you love to sing!

5 out of 5 stars Nice.......2006-01-15

because I love that kind og music, is all very OK.

5 out of 5 stars Miracles Made in Culver City.......2005-09-08

I've always wondered if MGM, which was known for its musicals, would have been the industry leader in that category if little Miss Gum hadn't come along in the late '30's. This is a great compilation of Judy's best from nearly 20 years of MGM movies... and nearly every song will make you remember the film and specific scene it came from. You'll "see" Judy at the mirror as she expresses her love for Clark Gable with "You Made Me Love You," you'll "see" her bouncing on the trolley as it hurtles down a street in old St. Louis, you'll "see" her leading that wonderful gang of Harvey Girls as she salutes the "Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe." They say that music is "emotional shorthand;" this CD is a time machine to the 1930's and '40s... when Culver City was the entertainment capitol of the universe.

    5 out of 5 stars I hear a symphony.......2004-02-23

This CD was released in the very earliest days of digital technology. It is long out of print, and has been replaced by better Supremes compilations. All the songs here are terrific (and in stereo). There are a few big hits missing, though, the most notable being the Number One hit "The Happening" (which is admittedly the weakest of their Number One hits). Although there are better Supremes compilations currently available, this CD is worth acquiring, if you can find a cheap used copy of it.

This cd is pretty much the same as the much more popular Greatest Hits. The only difference is that it doesn't have the tracks Belle, Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy), L-O-V-E (Love), and Full of Fire. It does include Take Me To the River, a song that isn't on Greatest Hits. Highly Reccomended

3 out of 5 stars Not what it appears to be!.......2002-04-12

These are not the original recordings. They are however, very good remakes made apparently in the 1970's. Davis's voice is much lower and soulful than on the originals. The music is in good taste hear. Cheap packaging though. Very little notes. No info about the versions of the songs that are present. Go for his "Country Music Hall of Fame" on MCA or the Bear Family Boxed sets. There has to be a reissue of his hits in the near future.

5 out of 5 stars I've never heard of this song or artist........1999-08-22

The reason I need this song by this artist is for my grandmother who is very sick from cancer and only has 6 to 9 months. She loves the song Worried Mind by Jimmie Davis and she hasn't been able to find it anywhere. Please help me if you can.
