I love this cd but it skips, i bought it about 3 months ago, ive tried to figure out how to return it for two hours, i want to trade it for the same cd any suggestions???

Great Gospel Album!.......2000-06-23

I have been listening to this audio tape for YEARS and YEARS, and never tire of it. I am pleased that I can now buy a CD of "The Holy Bible" by the Statler Brothers.

This is a cleverly done piece of spiritual music........1999-08-31

The Statlers' have taken the Bible stories and recorded very clever songs to illustrate them. Some of the songs are written by the group and some are old favorites, but each one is enjoyable and fun to sing along with. From the creation to the second coming, you will laugh, cry, and rejoice through the music and lyrics. Even if you do not particularly enjoy gospel music, I think you will appreciate the creativity that went into this collection of songs.

Wrong music on CD.......2002-11-09

I bought this CD and had the same problem someone else said they had. The music on the CD was not the music that was suppose to be on it. The replacement CD had the exact same problem. Wait until Amazon posts a notice that the problem has been resolved before buying this.

Wrong Tracks (songs) on CD and the replacement CD.......2002-10-30

I ordered this CD in OCT 2002 and it arrived with the wrong tracks (songs) on it. .... All the packaging and inserts were correct. If you are considering this CD you may want to wait a couple weeks to let them work out the quality issue and get a new supply in stock. FYI The CD sample clips sound great I will try again to get this one in a few weeks.

I FOUND THEM AGAIN!!!.......2002-07-25

I FIRST OWNED THE STATLER BROTHERS "OLD TESTAMENT" AND "NEW TESTAMENT" ON 33/RPM/LP. I PLAYED THE RECORDS SO MUCH I WORE THEM OUT. THEN I BOUGHT TWO CASSETTE TAPES OF THE SAME MUSIC, I WORE THEM OUT, BOUGHT TWO MORE CASSETTE AND WORE THEM OUT TOO!! NOW I FINALLY FOUND THEM ON TWO CDs. I AM SO HAPPY, I JUST RECEIVED THEM AND I FEEL LIKE OLD FRIENDS HAVE BEEN REUNITED! I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT THIS ALBUM. IT IS FUNNY, SCRIPTURAL, AND DONE IN THE TIMELESS STYLE OF THE STATLER BROTHERS! I LOVE IT!!!

I think the Statler Brothers are the greatest singing
group of ALL time.
Because it's not only their excellant sound it's also
the songs that they sing.
The words and the melody of their songs is beyond
compare.
I know there has been many great groups with great
sounds but NONE of them can compare with the words
of their songs with that of the words of the Statler
Brothers songs. They just have a peace about them
even songs like "I Saw Your Picture" make you feel
great.
As far as the bible songs I have the original record
album and the records are 78's. I recently bought
a 5 cd player with the record player. Unfortunatly
when I received it I found out that the record player
only plays 33 1/3 and 45's. I was really disapointed
because I wanted to play the bible album.
I did'nt think that the bible would be on cd's because
the album was old. I was plesantly surprized when
I found it on the Amozon site and am really looking
forward to getting it.
I would recomend it 1000 % to anyone no matter what
their taste in music is.

My father, though raised Catholic, has never been particularly religious. When I was little, it shocked my mother when he specifically requested the Statler Brothers Old/New Testament (which was released as a two album set at the time). I can remember listening to it with him and being impressed by my father's reaction - it actually would get him to talk about his beliefs and what he was taught in school as a child during the Depression in Philadelphia.

When the "Queen of Country Music" emerged with this gorgeous gospel album in 1959, her ticket was already written. "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," her breakthrough 1952 single, remains one of the most significant recordings in country-music history. Wells followed that No. 1 smash with a string of top 10 hits throughout the 1950s, and Decca rewarded her with a lifetime contract in 1959. Why this Wells gem was reissued by MCA (at a super-budget price, no less) while the rest of her catalog languishes is anyone's guess, but who's complaining? Wells's austere and poised delivery is a godsend when compared to the pretentious, overwrought singing that too often dominates modern gospel music. The pure-as-snow arrangements range from fiddle-and-steel to organ-and-chorus, but attention is always focused on Wells's pristine voice. --Marc Greilsamer

REPENT! (and listen).......2004-12-19

The more I listen to Kitty, the more I'm convinced that she really is the "Queen of Country". Each track here is beautiful music, not just the well-known title track. This reviewer favored "I Dreamed I Searched Heaven for You" and the oft-recorded "Lonesome Valley" which the Kingston Trio converted to "The Reverend Mister Black". Other listeners will have their own choices. What truly struck me is that Kitty must truely believe in what she recorded here. I can visualize other country folks doing a few Gospel tracks and then tearing up the town. Kitty probably went home to her husband and kids. It's a shame that this collection is out of print. Let's be grateful that amazon has provided a marketplace for used CDs to circulate. Let's hope that either MCA or Decca, with whom Kitty has a lifetime contract, reissues "Dust on the Bible" soon.

Gut-wrenching Country and Bluegrass Gospel.......2000-09-05

Two years ago, I purchased this as a casette from a truck stop on a drive from Denver, Colorado to Paducah, Kentucky. I played it in the jeep so much that I wore it out and have been unable to find a new copy, so get the CD version. I love blue grass gospel and this is great to sing with or to on the way to choir practice or anywhere. My best friend and I listened to the cut, "We buried Her Beneath The Willows" together and ended up in tears of collected grief for our beloved mothers and a sister taken by breast cancer. Singing and crying has helped me through a lot of life's losses. Every song is a classic. A must-have for bluegrass gospel fans.

One of the quintessential country and gospel albums ever.......2000-02-16

This collection of classic country gospel music is full of the classic sounds that made Kitty famous and inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame yet none of these tracks went into the Top 40: the voice, the instrumentation and the Nashville Sound production. The CD is priced right and is a must have for fans of pure country and pure gospel music, even if you are only looking for the title track. Another thing that makes it great, as described in another Amazon.com review, is that it is straightforward. Every song on this collection, 12 in all, are as great as any of your favorite hymns. The melody and the chorus of "Lonesome Valley" (which is on this album) were also used in the Kingston Trio's hit "Reverend Mr. Black" which is one of their best songs.

This CD is out of print, but you can get this album in its entirety plus a lot more on the Queen of Country Music Bear Family boxed set.

Pure Gosel, Pure Country, by a pure singing voice........1998-08-21

Kitty brings a clean sound uncluttered by the "gimmicks" that characterize so many of the male and female gospel singers these days. If you want to hear pure, clean, country gospel singing, this is a must. She is a straightforward singer accompanied by a solid band. The accoustic guitar player must have a clock in his head, for his timing is flawless. No tricks, no surprises unless it is pure enjoyment that you are looking for. And, if you happen to be a Christian, the music will minister to you.

Maybe the BEST Buck album.......2004-11-05

In terms of sheer consistency and quality of songs, Dust On Mother's Bible might be the best Buck and the Buckaroos album. I'm not a religious person, but these songs are moving and entertaining at the same time. Pick this one up regardless of your beliefs. Honky Tonk Saviors would have been another appropriate title with multiple meanings!

+1/2 -- Bakersfield praises the Lord.......2004-01-06

The bulk of this album was recorded at the end of 1965, right in the middle of Owens' phenomenal run of Bakersfield Sound recordings. The albums "I've Got a Tiger By the Tail" and "Christmas With Buck Owens" were lighting up the charts, and the Buckaroos triumphant Carnegie Hall concert was just ahead in 1966. This timing produced twelve original songs of faith that were written and recorded to the band's high-powered twang, rather than being adaptations of the band to a more traditional gospel sound.

From the opening bars of "Pray Every Day," it's clear that the joyful sound of the Buckaroos' hits was perfectly suited to stories of prayer, bible and family. Owens sings with the full-throated honky-tonk conviction of Hank Williams', but with harmonies (either his own, or those of Don Rich) mindful of the Louvin Brothers. Add the twang of Telecasters and pedal steel, and you have the soundtrack to Bakersfield's salvation.

Owens co-wrote many of the album's songs with the legendary Red Simpson; he also co-wrote a pair of tunes, "Bring it to Jesus" and "Eternal Vacation," with his mother, Macie. The album's title tune, along with "I'll Go to Church Again with Momma," recall Macie's own mother, Mary Myrtle, and reflect on the supportive family from which Owens' career sprang. The album is a Bakersfield hymnal of waltzes ("Jesus Saved Me" "All the Way With Jesus"), two-steppers ("Would You Be Ready?" "Satan's Gotta Get Along Without Me"), and fiddle-and-steel weepers ("Dust on Mother's Bible"). Every one of them is stamped through-and-through with the classic Buckaroos sound.

For reasons unknown, this album was not released with the bulk of Sundazed's reissues in the late `90s. Wrong finally righted, it's time for fans to rejoice and enjoy this essential entry in the Buck Owens catalog.

Heavenly Harmonies.......2007-07-09

In 1959 Jim Edward, Maxine and Bonnie Brown made country music history when they were the first group to have a cross-over song that made it to number 1 on the pop charts, "The Three Bells." A similar version had been made popular in both France and the U. S. by Edith Piaf. The Browns, originally from Arkansas had other hits before they disbanded in 1967: "Here Today and and Gone Tomorrow," "Looking Back To See," "The Old Lamplighter," etc. The group got together again in 1996 to record this CD. Jim Edward is still singing and giving concerts to this day.

"The Family Bible" contains 32 songs including the title song. My favorite is "When they Ring Those Golden Bells." Other outstanding arrangements I particularly like include "Whispering Hope," "An Evening Prayer," "My Latest Sun Is Sinking Fast," "How Great Thou Art," and "Amazing Grace"-- this group starts out singing a cappella and then are joined by back-up instruments, a risky undertaking since the singers have to be singing on key, as this fine group is. The only selection I would have omitted is "Jezebel," which appears to be sung by a male quartet although there are no liner notes with the CD. I would have also left off the Hammond organ on some of the cuts but that's just a personal taste of mine. I prefer a gospel piano and guitar much more.

What the Browns have given the world is close incredibly beautiful otherworldly harmony that can come only from familes and/or groups who have sung together for a long time. The Louvin Brothers had it (two of their songs are included here, "The Family Who Prays" and "The Weapon of Prayer") as do several other groups; but no one does it better than these three individuals. It is so good to know that they made this CD such a short time ago and that Jim Edward still sings.

The Browns Family Bible CD.......2007-02-03

Be aware of what you purchase. There are two versions. I bought the 32 song version like you would buy at Jim Ed's concerts for the same price as the 10 song version. I purchased my CD from the The Music Connection. They provided very good customer service. I'm not a big gospel fan but I have to say this is a very good list of selections. All very well sung. The Browns make excellent easy to listen to music.

The famous Ernest Tubb gospel album, reduced to 10 songs.......2004-12-18

The original lp had 12 songs, so it makes n osense that they reissued it, minus two tracks one of them being a great version of "If We Never Meet Again This Side Of Heaven." However this cd is still essential for having ten classic western hillbilly swing/rockabilly versions of gospel classics like Hank Williams' I Saw The Light, the Family Bible, and The Old Rugged Cross. Great cd!

OK, you've enjoyed the bluegrass romps on "Delusions of Banjuer" and "Hogs On The Highway", been baffled yet grown to love the experimentation of "Blood & Mood" and "Industry & Thrift" - What next?

Time to go to church!

Originally recorded in 1991 as a Christmas present for Danny Barnes's folks, this was later sold on cassette at their gigs. As more and more people requested it, eventually they went ahead and dropped it on CD. The result- 10 (or 13, depending on how you count the medley) excellent gospel tunes, ranging from the obscure ("Jesus Is On the Mainline") to the very, very familiar ("I Saw The Light", "Will The Circle Be Unbroken"). A surprisingly reverent album, and a joy to listen to.

It's a real treat to have around when the grandparents are over, you have a Bad Livers jones, and you don't think that they would appreciate hearing "Pee-Pee The Sailor".
