As if Van Wilder wasn't clue enough, the National Lampoon's once-vaunted imprimatur on a comedy project is hardly the guarantee of satirical reverie it once was. This first album of new material to bear the NL logo in a couple decades should be cause for celebration instead of mere chuckles--and perhaps a little head-scratching. It's not that the slickly-produced tracks on this faux greatest hits collection (authentic down to mock artist bio's and illustrated lyric sheet) don't work as amusing white trash send-ups, it's just that in their prime, the Lampoon might have seen fit to season an album with but one of these rambunctiously obnoxious trucker jibes. The satire is mostly all-too-predictable--trucker as lonely, sexed-up deviant/crossdresser/closet homo/drug abuser/fat ass, etc.--and one in which the socio-politico (the off-key sing-along "There's No I in Teamster") and surreal (the furniture-tweaked mall-prowlers of "Antiquin'"; the boozy Dean Martin send-up, "Mama Mia That's a Truck") jabs that once characterized Lampoon projects in their prime get decidedly short shrift--or is it shift? Indeed, parodying the likes of C.W. McCall in the age of Eminem may be its most sublime joke. --Jerry McCulley

1 out of 5 stars Recent Trash From NatLamp Purchasers.......2006-08-13

The National Lampoon name has been purchased by a group that has no sense of humor whatever but intends to market old properties and mix in new junk, betting you can't tell the difference until after you buy it. Basically this includes anything put out after 2002. There was ONE Five Star Review up until mine -- Guess what a Shlock Meister might do to sell such a CD! Hint, a ___ and his ___ are soon ___. I recommend that people who have heard this CD and know what it contains get some reviews in as well.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome! The Best Gay Trucking CD Ever!.......2003-09-07

Of course, it's also probably the only album filled with gay trucking songs, but never mind -- this is funny! The best thing the Lampoon has done in years.

1 out of 5 stars Boycott MTV !!!! It is the ANTICHRIST.......2004-09-03

Why would Roadrunner put their good name on a CD with such Horrible music (with the exception being the Deftones a great band)the rest are just a bunch of Kid pop punk (New found glory need to be shot)and crappy Emo bands.C'mon this is roadrunner, a record label with such awesome artists such as Soulfly, Type-o negative,Killswitch Engage, Coal Chamber(R.I.P.) and at the time of this release Fear Factory. They couldn't put tracks from the aforwementioned artists on the compilation? WTF? They Might as well have put Rap or Brittney Spears on this load of crap! One star because of the Deftones otherwise...No stars, no way!!!

3 out of 5 stars Not half bad.......2004-03-09

The main reason I bought this was because it was only $5. When I bought it I already knew Jimmy Eat World's song (good), Taking Back Sunday's song (good), and Hoobastank's song (alright). I think the best on here besides the afore mentioned are the Used, Thrice, Unwritten Law, Brand New, Dashboard Confessional, Coheed & Cambria, the Movielife, and the Get Up Kids. It is weird that the only ones on here that I've ever heard on MTV are Thrice, Hoobastank & Dashboard, but may this will influence some oblivious MTV viewer to like something besides Britney Spears and Good Charlotte.

    5 out of 5 stars on roadrunner???.......2003-01-04

pretty good. Only I don't know why this compilation album is on road runner records who's known for mostly metal(slipknot, stone sour, coal chamber etc.) and only like two of their artists are on this album and the rest is all pop/punk and emo. Who don't fit in the same crowd really but ohwell it's still koo.

4 out of 5 stars An interesting choice for MTV.......2002-12-17

While I respect and enjoy the majoroty of the bands on this compilaion, I must say that this is the first time I have seen MTV acknowledge Taking Back Sunday and Brand New. They are both bands who have released soid albums but are rarely publicised. However, I don't understand why MTV would associate the bands on this album with Road Rules-a show mainly affiliated with mainstream pop and rock. Regardless, the album contains good music... The bands choose what labels and companies they want to work with, and they deserve to be rich and famous. They've worked for it.

    4 out of 5 stars Good compilation.......2002-10-31

First off I want to tell the "music fan from New Jersey" that if it weren't for MTV some of those bands would be BROKE!! You may think that MTV exploits but in the end its really all up to the artist and how far they will go.
    Now that that is done.
The album is very cool. I bought it on a whim and it turned out to be a really good mix. I really like Unwritten Law and Hoobastank.

      5 out of 5 stars Refreshing.......2001-08-31

Saw Gooding at a show and couldn't help but get the album, been listening to it for a while now and always find something new and unique buried in the symphony of his work. Truly an innovative creation. Simply put, WOW...

      5 out of 5 stars Gooding Rocks.......2001-04-01

I just saw him at the House of Blues in New York. He is amazing live and his music is both refreshing and innovative. I haven't heard anything this good in a long long time. His Funky, Jazz, Techno, Guitar laden sound is hypnotic. Bought 3X after the show can't stop playing it.

      5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!!!!!!!!!.......2001-02-19

Yes, he's done it again. Gooding continues to amaze us with his brilliant work with 3X. For all you out there that are already fans, this is definitely awesome. If you havne't had the chance to check this album out yet, definitely do it. He is phenomenonal. In a time where music lacks creativity and isn't uniform pop, Gooding shines. You will NOT be disappointed with this album. Also, definitely check out his tour dates, I just saw him in Champaign, IL. Enjoy this album, it's one of a kind.

5 out of 5 stars best jazz singer on the entire world planet.......2003-11-28

anits o'day is best jazz singer on earth or universe. in germany not too many jazz singer, but those in us are lucky to have living legent leik anita oday, you buy ythis cd, and you will be happiest person on pkanet like me. you love it i gaurentee it, buy one for you, and one for a friend. buy it, it is great jazz, and anita;s voice never sounded so sexy. you love it, i promise.

5 out of 5 stars The best darn jazz singer alive today..........2003-11-23

As Anita O'Day once told me after one of her recent performances in Hermosa Beach, there are a lot of good singers today, but nobody improvises, they all sing the melody. i agreed with Anita. We've got lot's of pretty voices singing standards liek Jane Monheit, Diana Krall, Diane Reeves, but they sing melodies, O'Day is the last of the chancetakers(since Betty Carter is no longer with us). Some other reviews mention O'Day out of key, she is perfectly in key and in pitch, it's called IMPROVISING, it's JAZZ! Those uneducated not to know the difference shouldn't be lsitening to jazz singers. O'Day is adventerous all thru this exellent release, her scat phrasing is as exellent as ever. ODay's voice is like exquisite wine taht only gets finer with age, and thankfully O'Day hasn't mellowed out, she is still as exciting as ever. Every O'Day performance is like watching a tightrope walker, you might think thier going to fall, but they never do, O'Day is that chancetaking, if you don't like jazz singers who are adventurous and like to scat and improvise this is not for you this is a leeson on how to be a good jazz singer by a real pro. Buy this one, and look hard for O'Day most recent cd recorded in Hawaii called "Swingtime In Hawaii" it is her best cd to date(even 10 times better tahn this one or any of her Verve sets). 4 stars to the greatest jazz singer still performing today!

5 out of 5 stars Oh boy this cd made me a fan of O'Day's for life.......2003-11-13

I saw this cd and picked it up because I like Buddy Bregman's arrangements on a Bing Crosby lp. He works his mogic here wit ha jazz legend. Bregman's inticate arrangements are purrfect for O'Day's improvising style. She really knocked me out. Because of this wonderful cd, I have recently delved into her verve catalog, i splurged on the Mosiac Complete verve clf session by O'Day(which is recomended), but this is a more mature and wise O'Day who has not lost any of the magic and beauty in her voice. The theme of thic cd is terrific too, Road songs, as a trucker I love listeing to this on my San Francisco to Las Vegas trips. All of the songs are gems and this is the cd of the century as far as jazz vocal is concerned. Just get it today, you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Anita O'Day really rocks, man........2003-11-13

Hey dudes you need this cd, I used to see Anita when she played the Atlas club in Los Angeles, and she really rocks dude. This cd also really rocks, O'Day has a smooth style and she likes to scat a lot, on this cd she also sings with a white guy who sounds black, Jack Sheldon, come to think of it Anita sounds black, or shall I say hip. This is my favorite Anita cd, I bought it from her after one of her gigs and she even signed it for me. She's cool. I really like how she sings "I'm Shaking Da Blues away" and "Here's Dat Rainy Day." this is Anita's best cd in recent years. Also get Pick Yourself Up from the 1950's Verve/Polygram era. Any Anita CD I can find I buy, because this lady is the best man. You gotta buy this cd, and if you come out to LA man, go see her in person, she rocks dude. Just buy it, you'll love it, I listen to it all the time in my lowered 1973 Cadillac, as I cruise Whittier Blvd. in East LA ,and Montebello. It's perfect car cruising music, my whole gang loves it. Buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Anita O'Day keeps getting better with age like fine wine!.......2003-11-13

I've spent many a night listening to Anita O'Day live in recent times, at the Atlas in Los angeles. She used to perform there twice a month for 2 years and I almost never missed a show. She always filled a room, and she sang a lot of the same tunes every show, but what was interesting is how the song never sounded the same. She is an improviser, so no matter how many times I heard her sing S'wonderful, it always sounded different. O'Day's voice is a little rougher, but finer like wine. She has lost none of her improvisational skills, she is as chancetaking as ever, if not more. It's like watching a someone on a tightrope, you think they might fall, but they don't. Anita is the best jazz singer alive today, and this cd wonderful. Anita O'Day does a Sinatra style concept album, all the songs have to do with traveling(Rosemary Clooney did an exellent album in recent times with the same traveling theme), fro mthe bright and hip opener Rules Of The Road through songs like Music that Makes Me Dance. This cd is a reflective haunting album, and shouldn't be compared with her Verve recordings. This is Anita O'Day's version of Sinatra's September Of My Years album. O'Day sounds hip and chancetaking as ever with Buddy Bregman's versitile jazz arrangements. Other highlights include a jotous duet with singer/trumpeter Jack Sheldon on I Told you I love ya bow get out, and a wonderful version of Shakin' The Blues Away. This is a great cd, and wonderfu lespecially when traveling on the raod. Buy this gem of a cd and listen to it on your next family vacation drive, the wole family will love it.

4 out of 5 stars HAWAII BRINGS IT.......2001-01-21

I GOT THIS ALBUM AND IT RULES(HENCE THE NAME). LOTS OF GOOD FLOWS THAT ONLY A TRUE REGGAE FAN CAN APPRICIATE. THIS IS SORT OF A "SAMPLER" BECAUSE MOST OF THE FETURED ARTIST HAVE ALOT OF BETTER SONGS OUT THERE, YOU JUST GOT TO LOOK. THE ONLY DOWN PART IS THAT THERE IS ONLY TEN SONGS! BUT THE UP SIDE IS THAT THEY ARE TEN GOOD SONGS.

            Album Review:

            1. Sexual Odometer [Explicit Lyrics]
            2. She Wants To Drive My Truck
            3. Smashed Hits
            4. Smashville, Volume 1
            5. State Of Grace
            6. Take Me Back to Tulsa [Import]
            7. Teensville [Import]
