Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
The completed project features 10 Oklahoma songwriters, Tulsa musicians and vocalists, and was recorded in Broken Arrow. The CD was mastered at Masterfonics and pressed at MediaWorks, both in Nashville, Tennessee, and took two and a half years to complete.
Four of the eleven songs were written or co-written by Merlene. Another four were selected from publishers in Nashville. Two others were written by local writers from Tulsa and, of course, Nights in White Satin is a remake of the original hit single by the Moody Blues.
When Merlene sits down to write a song, she doesn't necessarily look for the clever or cute way to turn a phrase she looks for the best way to express a feeling. City Blues was written about a little girl who really wasn't where she wanted to be, whereas Dancing on the Moon was about a young woman who was exactly where she wanted to be. It shouldn't come as a surprise that Cowboy Junkie was written after coming home from a rodeo in Claremore.
When you hear this album, you hear Merlene.

This soundtrack to City of Angels has a mighty tall order to fill. The film is a remake of Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire, and the German director is known for his effective use of music. But where Wenders can call on his friends such as R.E.M. and Elvis Costello to contribute songs, City of Angels feels more like a marketing device. No less than half the selections are by Warner Bros. artists, including some new music by Alanis Morissette, her first since Jagged Little Pill. That song, "Uninvited," is the album's highlight, a restrained modal ballad in the mode of Zeppelin's "Kashmir." The rest alternates between other female stars such as Paula Cole and Sarah McLachlan and bluesy selections from Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, and Eric Clapton. --Steven Mirkin

City of Angels Soundtrack.......2006-06-25
Items were shipped within two days, and I loved the music from the movie.
An average soundtrack resting on the shoulders of one masterpiece..........2006-04-27
Now don't be so quick to hate based on my title here...I do love this soundtrack, but what I mean is that you have one BRILLIANT track and then an album of good tracks...I think the major problem was placing this BRILLIANT track in second place, for placing it on the outset of the album only sets you up for dissapointment. Yes, this track is 'Uninvited' by Alanis Morissette, which is haunting, bewitching and mezmerizing to say the least. Alanis, a wonderfully talented singer at that, puts together her finest piece of music ever and manages to real you in from the first word to the last, and that musical arangment, I mean come on...it's beautiful, eerie and enchanting all at the same time, and when it all breaks down towards the end after she utters the word "slide" and the violins get violent almost it's just one of my favorite pieces of music let alone the vocal masterclass that it is. So there you have it, the biggest reason to purchase this album...and it's a great reason, but the fact that it's the only reason stands to reitterate my opening comment. I mean, there are other good or even great songs like 'Iris' which was radio ready almost as soon as it was recorded, and the song itself is a beautiful and inspired song, one of the Goo Goo Dolls best efforts, and Sarah McLachlan, who possesses one of the most angelic voices ever, delivers a solid track 'Angel' and even Paula Cole delivers with 'Feelin Love' and The Jimi Hendrix instrumental 'Red House' but none of these tracks even come close to touching the power in 'Uninvited'. Some of the songs are good but nothing spectacular, much like the opener 'If God Will Send His Angels' by the glorious U2 and I guess maybe I expect too much but this song just left me saying "Is this for real?" It could have, no let me rephrase that, SHOULD have been much better. Eric Clapton, a genious that he is, delivers one of the most annoying tracks here, I think mainly because it drags on for over 7 minutes! And then there are tracks that hurt to listen to, like Peter Gabriel's 'I Grieve' which is ear-splitting terrible. At least Gabriel Yared's score is just beautiful. So, the album is not a complete let down, but it just had huge shoes to fill beings that one of the greatest songs of all time had graced the track listing...Now they could have followed in Titanics footsteps and released a score only with Alanis adding her masterpiece, and then maybe this would have been a 5 star rating, but the weight of the remaining tracks brought Alanis's beauty down just enough. (By the way, I'm still pretty P.O.'ed that 'Uninvited' did not take home the oscar for best original song...it deserved it hands down!)
Excellent all around.......2006-03-17
I bought this soundtrack after I saw the movie back in 98. I fell in love with every song on it and played it often. When I was stressed out, I would play one of Gabriel Yared's and let the stress drain out of my fingers. About a year ago, I had many of my favorite cd's stolen from the car and this was one of them. It killed me not to have it. I'm buying it again because I truely miss it.
Eclectic Selection .......2006-03-11
Contains an eclectic selection ranging from blues to anthems. Very pleasant listening for most music lovers.
Heavenly.......2005-10-31
this CD is one of my top 5 favorite CDs. as far as soundtracks go - this one and one other are my favs. (the other? you want to know? it's Boys on the Side) it's not that I even like the movie - cause I don't. just that the soundtrack is soooooooo good!
my dear husband, Norman, and I have had great sex to this CD more times than I can count. and I fall asleep to it several times a month. I keep it next to my bed.
the songs -
If God Will Send His Angels - very soft, sweet, sultry, kind.
Uninvited - Alanis Morissette, haunting, sultry, memorable.
Mama, You Got A Daughter - love it! I want a whole CD with just this guy! John Lee Hooker - New Orleans kinda blues - so good. Angel - sweet, Sarah McLachlan. yummy good.
Iris - beyond beautiful. Goo Goo Dolls.
the rest, all good. Jimmi, U2, what a cast! as a compilation - it is very very good.
buy it from a nice seller on Amazon, I did!

Album Description
Bad Blood In The City: The Piety Street Sessions is James Blood Ulmer's most recent collaboration with Vernon Reid and The Memphis Blood Blues Band. It's built around a cycle of original Ulmer songs which directly address Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. With this album, Ulmer has delivered one of the most stirring and emotionally powerful recordings of his career. There are also a handful of classic blues interpretations that serve to further explore Katrina's sub-plot of race, poverty and struggle, including readings of Son House's "Grinnin' In Your Face," Junior Kimbrough's "Sad Days, Lonely Nights," John Lee Hooker's "This Land Is No One's Land," Bessie Smith's "Backwater Blues," Howlin Wolf's "Commit A Crime" and Willie Dixon's "Dead Presidents."
Customer Reviews:
Vernon, leave your guitar at home........2007-06-06
I'm a Huge Blood fan, and love all of his music, but this record is a slight let-down. It's in no part due to James Ulmer's performance, but rather Vernon Reid's presence.
James Ulmer's strength is his droning, moody A-tuned guitar with his strong and slightly-garged voice. If you've heard "Birthright" that's Ulmer at his best.
Vernon Reid should remember to leave his guitar at home when producing Ulmer. Reid's 1,000 note-a-minute style just walks all over Ulmer. He is no blues player in the style that Ulmer is. Ulmer can play ONE note and weave it into a feeling. Vernon Reid is always in a race with himself. Combine that with the loud, overly-full production, and James Ulmer is drowned out and lost in the mix. Underneath it all is a great performance by Ulmer. But trying to listen to it through all of that noise is annoying.
Good,but just a little overproduced.......2007-05-29
Don't get me wrong! I Am a Big Fan of James Blood Ulmer. I feel he has found his calling as a 21th century bluesman;but on this record ,which has a great concept and sound,I feel is a little overproduced;too much studio and not enough of that angular,Ornette Coleman sounding Blood Ulmer guitar(unlike his last disc "Birthright" which was brilliant!)Vernon Reid should have made the production a little more sparce sounding so more of that Blood Ulmer guitar would have come thru. That being said; the compositions on this CD are great and have an important message, I hope commerically, this CD is a success for Blood;because For my ears it's his most popular sounding, blues CD. Just wish it was a little more hardcore Blood Ulmer.

There are so few tracks on this album, I would have been better off buying my favorites on iTunes. By the time you settle in to listening, it's over!
New York City.......2007-03-23
Good tunes with a soft jazzy sound. Mellow and mild. Nice.
Best Norah CD I've purchased.........2007-03-22
This CD was bought on a whim. I didn't really expect much from it at first. After I bought it however, I wondered why there wasn't any media hype surrounding it. This is one of her best albums, but it's not her normal stuff. It's definitely worth the money for any fan.
Better than Norah's solo album.......2007-03-10
This album is addictive. Smooth, bluesy, jazz. I prefer it to her new album.
well done.......2007-02-05
now THIS is the norah I like. This style suits her much better than her attempts at trying to be a grown up singer for the coffee house yuppies

Customer Reviews:
BUYERS NOTE!!!!!!!!.......2007-04-27
I am writing this trying to correct a mistake in the Amazon listing for this CD.
Please note that for reasons unclear some of the information on this page, including several of the user reviews, refer to the BGO remastered 2for1 CD that contains the Trower albums LONG MISTY DAYS and IN CITY DREAMS, yet the item for sale on this page is NOT THAT!!!!
The item for sale here is the original Trower release of LONG MISTY DAYS on CD from Chrysalis records.
The UPC code for the Chrysalis CD is 094632110725 and that is what this page is properly indexed as, and that is what the sellers here (including myself) are offering.
Any reference to the 2for1 BGO release, or anything on the label "Capital" instead of Chrysalis is a mistake on this page. I am trying to get Amazon to fix this, but unfortunately I have no control over that!
I hope this helps clear up any confusion and prevents any buyer disappointment if they buy this but expect to get the BGO version.
Jimmy Page Who? Give Me Trower Anyday!.......2007-02-18
I see and read these silly guitarist and rock documentaries and they all go on about Jimmy Page this and Jimi Hendrix that - yawn. It's as if there is an industry of Jimmies. What why isn't Robin Trower ever mentioned? He's just as good a player as those guys are. I used to sit in my bedroom listening to Trower's "Long Misty Days" and wonder why Page and Clapton were the guitar gods, when Trower and a host of others weren't the exalted ones? If only "Days" and "Bridge Of Sighs" were released on one disc. I'm afraid a law would have to be passed demanding any kid who was thinking of playing guitar buy it, learn it and live it.
1/2 of a good disc.......2007-01-06
I don't know why they insist on packaging 2 albums on 1 disc but it drives me crazy. Anyway, Long Misty Days is a nice effort by Robin. The problem is that he is so tame in the studio that you really have to see him live to appreciate all he can do. Still, it's a fun album that makes for some good party music.
In City Dreams is horrible. It was the beginning of the end for Robin being a popular artist. Ironically, that's what he was trying to do, be more "mainstream". But writing lame pop songs with annoying electronic gimmicks did nothing but alienate his fan base.Because of this I have to take a star away from the overall rating.
rt.......2006-11-06
not much to say that has not been said before, all it take's is one show.robin own's the ax.
Long Misty days.......2006-11-04
This combination of Long Misty Days-InCity Dreams is a must for any Robin Trower fan, Caledonia is a great song, the title songs are very good as well.

Cy Coleman and David Zippel's City of Angels is a seductive depiction of 1940s Los Angeles, capturing swinging jazz, torchy ballads, witty lyrics, and even a Manhattan Transfer-like Greek chorus (arranged by ManTran guru Yaron Gershovsky). James Naughton and Gregg Edelman star as Stone and Stine, respectively a tough Raymond Chandleresque PI and the writer who dreams up his adventures. Randy Graff plays Stone's long-suffering secretary and Dee Hoty the requisite femme fatale. Loads of atmosphere and tasty songs such as "What You Don't Know About Women," "With Every Breath I Take," "You're Nothing Without Me," and "You Can Always Count on Me" make City of Angels a modern classic. It won 1990 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Leading Actor (Naughton), Featured Actress (Graff), Best Book (Larry Gelbart), and Best Original Score. --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
Fun Show, Average Score.......2007-02-21
Fun show, ingenuos concept, so-so score, with one exception. The ballad With Every Breath I Take is brilliant. One of Coleman's best pieces.
Cleverness personified.......2006-10-16
A duet between an author and the character he created, each claiming "you're nothing without me," is just one example of how sharp, witty and clever show is, with an unusual score, jazzy and bluesy and very 1940s, and some of the best lyrics I know.
Fantastic Jazz Musical That's FUN!!!.......2006-04-14
City of Angels is an incredibly fun, classy, and jazzy musical that delivers. Stellar vocal performances are provided by the entire cast, particularly the female end. The fact that Randy Graff was the only female from this cast nominated at the Tony Awards that year floors me. Kay McClelland and Rachel York deserved nods for their powerful solos, With Every Breath I Take and Lost Found, alone. These two songs are also the type of sultry, jazz solos that one would expect in the 40's, which is why the show works. The music is completely period with when the show takes place, and that's why I love it. The best tracks are:
3) What You Don't Know About Women
6) With Every Breath I Take (destined to be a classic)
9) Lost and Found (wonderful solo)
10) All You Have To Do Is Wait (FUN! FUN! FUN SONG!!! Hilarious as well)
11) You're Nothing Without Me
13) You Can Always Count On Me (Randy Graff's Tony!)
Great Jazz-Oriented Score.......2005-06-25
1990 Tony winner for Best Musical, "City Of Angels" contains a great score, filled with jazz-oriented melodies & torch songs. Not all the songs are terrific, but most of the score lends itself to repeat listenings. Best tracks include:
Double Talk
What You Don't Know About Women
With Every Breath I Take [beautiful song!]
Lost And Found
You're Nothing Without Me [the show's hit]
You Can Always Count On Me
Funny
Great cast ... great buy!
I love it!.......2005-02-22
This is one of my favorite soundtracks ever! Since I'm going to be working on music for the show, I'm happy that this is the case. It has been in my CD player for a few weeks now, and there's enough variety for it not to get old. But having read through the script makes the lyrics infinitely wittier. Musicals are supposed to rely partially on the lyrics and partially on the script. This show does that perfectly. Without the script, the lyrics are (apparently) lacking. But without the lyrics, the script is missing something. When you put the two pieces together, however, it's really easy to see why this show won a Tony.

My Number One.......2007-06-20
I live in a little village in a small country many thousand miles away from Luther. But from the first day I listened to him singing the song 'Here and Now' many years ago, he has remained My Number One.No male vocalist today can match the sheer talent he was gifted with.
And I especially treasure this 'live album' because I never had the chance to see him perform on stage.Disappointed initially that it wasn't made into a music video, I found that with no visual distractions, the senses are more alert to every word, every pause, every scream in the crowd. To just hear him talk was thrilling. And I was laughing at his jokes!
This album is like Luther's musical history. Opening with 'Never Too Much', the song which catapulted him to fame, then a slower version of 'Here and Now' and then sharing some jokes with Kevin Owens and his
background singers before continuing with the seductive 'Take You Out'.
The ballads 'Love Won't Let Me Wait' and 'superstar' are stunningly beautifully ( there won't be enough adjectives to describe them ) sung as only Luther can do.
The audience was screaming ' We love you Luther' throughout the performance and I felt like doing the same too.By the time he had finished 'If Only For One Night', 'A House Is Not A Home' and 'Glow Of Love' and said "goodnight everybody, thanks for coming" , I was left speechless and breathless as if I was sitting right there in the audience.
It's been two years since he's been gone but he's still My Number One.
AN AWESOME END TO A STELLAR CAREER.......2007-02-21
I've always loved Luther, although I wouldn't consider myself a fanatic.
Suffice it to say I've enjoyed MOST of his output. Vocally, he is the
last of the great male R&B vocalists, IMHO. No one since has come close
to his silky, sensitive yet powerful vocalizing. That said, I think this
CD stands as one of LV's very best. It has everything you want in a
live CD: great sound, great song selection, AMAZING vocals and that vibe
that makes you wish you'd been there that night. I highly recommend it
to Luther fans everywhere. Listen to the soundclips and see for yourself.
We miss you Luther, and we'll never forget you!
Good Luther.......2007-01-18
This is ok. For some reason of allmy Luther, this wasnt as Great as i expected. Could be longer with more songs and is about an 80%.
I expected more just looking at the cover.
Not Bad, just Not as Super as I ecpected. Buy the Wembly Stadium Live show Its Just what you want and Superb Live.
A Non-Believer .......2007-01-09
I must admit that I had heard Mr Vandross coming to my city to do a concert. Scores of people would go...for what I asked? I was talking to a relative and she said he likes to do concerts. So what was all the fuss about? Then I heard "A House Is Not A Home." I knew Dionne Warwick had me enticed when she did it...but this man......He gave this song new meaning. Fortunately, for me my Aunt called me up and said Luther is coming to town. Well, Well, so Mr. Vandross will be here. I must go and hear him sing this 'signature song'. I called up and nearly dropped when I heard the price of the tickets. Decided against going until the lady said I have Front Row Center Seats !!!!!! Did I buy my ticket...yes I did!!
Front row center can have you spellbound....but I will admit...His concert was good...but I didn't know a single song, except "A House Is Not A Home" !! I was shamed...and... I was not a fan of his. So I went with a looking and inquiring mind to hear this creamy voiced singer.
I was not disappointed... but kept waiting for the signature song. It finally came with the theatrics and Mr. Vandross walking across the stage from left to right with intermittenent sounds of ""Oh""... in front of the microphone then to the other side and back in front of the microphone with another loud ""Oh"". My mind said..... He's setting us up for the kill...and he did more than that. I felt like someone just had made love to me, begged me. seduced me, and caressed my mind...first...then body ...and then soul. This man knew how to use his voice , was truly Gifted and A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. His backup singers were absent and the soul catching , dramatic voice and sounds of Luther were there alone on the stage (not to forget the band).
I came thee seeking, and I found... However while the crowd gave him a standing ovation for his intrepretation of a song of a man in love with a woman that had made a mistake.......I just melted in my resolve and knew that I would be a life long believer and fan of Luther Vandross.
Being in the front row center seat...Mr Vandross had a good view of my calm reactions (being I didn't know any of the songs he sang...so I just relaxed and sat back in my seat to be entertained.) When the evening was over...he clapped with the audience....thanked them for coming...and before he left the stage...Mr Luther Vandross looked RIGHT AT ME....SMILED HIS PEARLY WHITES AND SAID """GOODNIGHT"""................. Now I must admit the concert and A House Is Not A Home ..blew me away, but for him to say Goodnight......left no doubt in my mind...I was looked at and smiled by a celebrity last....and by a GENTLEMAN first!!!!!
Now you have read my story of me and Mr.Luther Vandross. I went out after that concert and bought mostof all the songs he recorded..and played them until they got scratched up. The DVD at Wembly was EXCELLENT.....the man can dance when he wants too.(smile) I just wish someone would make a dvd of this cd available...so far I have heard nothing...but I brought this cd and it's **7 STAR PERFECT**. I've played it over and over and over again. Superstar is his favorite to do and Nat Adderly is.....out of this world.... and nobody does it better than Luther..someone on here wrote "Only Luther can outdo Luther." Then I accidently left it at my daughter's house, but not to be dismayed...just got another copy. So I will eventually have 2 copies of this magnificent cd of the Late Luther Vandross. I have the studio version of most of these songs on this cd. but hearing him do it ""Live "", packs such a powerful punch !!!!I know that he danced with his father again... when he saw him ....and is now waiting for his mother so that they all can dance together again ...... FOR ETERNITY.
Thanks for reading my long review....My favorite songs...they all are..but "Stop... to Love" and his Signature song are echoed in my mind FOREVER !!!
My Secret Love.......2007-01-06
Simply the greatest Luther CD ever put out. You really do experience the magic of being at one of his concerts. What other R&B star has a live CD that sounds just as good, if not better then the original studio version? Not many!

go with the flow.......2007-05-10
Sometimes you buy a cd on instinct- this was not my instinct. Bert has a voice like a sinus infection but he undeniably has a way with folky melody. The best songs on this cd are the duets with Beth Orton (but that's my opinion) If you like Bonnie Prince billy then no harm you will find you here.
Echoes of Nick drake with the cello espec on the black swan (ends in beautiful synch cello-guitar).
My gut feeling is ' not bad- intrigued, may well investigate more'
folk masterpiece........2007-03-11
holy mackerel, what an album! i have 3 other bert jansch cds, and each falls just short of classic status in my book. but not this one. this is an instant classic. mr jansch's guitar playing here is exquisite, the work of a master, and he vocals are better than ever, laid-back, subtle and assured. he exhibits all the confidence of a seasoned master. beth orton sings lead vocals on three tracks, and her incredible voice is completely mesmerizing. the instrumental "magdalina's dance," performed by two banjos and a flute is gorgeous. the whole affair is simply a stunning folk masterpiece not to be missed. mojo magazine picked this as the 23rd best album of 2006. i place it somewhere in my top 5.
Yeah.....that's nice!.......2006-10-30
Great ,tastefully done ,new album from Mr. Jansch!
This has hints of Pentangle and (of course) thee modern free/freak folk messiah visiting too.
Plus check out the anti-Bush quicky song..."Texas Cowboy...". Bert could teach Neil Young a thing or two on economy of ideas(a 3 minute "Living With War" anyone?)!
If you loved Jansch's early classics or Pentangle('though Beth Orton is no J.McShee),then you'll love this CD!
Beautiful job, congrats Drag City on another fine release! Look for Red Hash's CD too.....a lost folk classic.
Jansch is Back.......2006-10-26
Bert Jansch has crafted a beautiful album, with his signiture picking style and voice and devendra banhart and beth orton contributing, this makes for one of Jansch's most compelling albums to date. And that's saying a lot.

OK.......2007-06-07
overall the album is ok...not all the songs live up to how wonderful "Underwater Love" is. It's not a bad album, but I wish there were more tracks! Underwater Love is the track that made me want to get the album. There are only 10 tracks and it is expensive because it's an import cd. I really do like the singer's voice though =) "Devil Mood" and "Numbers" have more Jungle elements intertwined with them while "Dark Walk" is an instrumental track that is more Trip-Hop. "Giulietta" is just a boring track and definetly a "filler" "Jamie Pan" is also a weak track...the album has a total of 10 tracks of which 3 range from 3 mins and 11 secs to 3 mins and 48 secs. The best track is unltimately "Underwater Love" which is a great 6 mins a 46 secs. Songs to download: "With You" and "Aguas de Marco" Also I think the group Supreme Beings of Leisure offers much better albums but they only sing in English.
Perfectly created together in a bliss of rhythmly beats!.......2007-05-26
All around a great CD! Nina's voice is downright smoky, seductive, playful, uplifting and smooth. The keyboards add a touch of flare throughout the CD, shifting it from past styles to present ones, as it goes from trip/hop, to bossa nova, to jazzy and all mixed in. Then adding in with it all kinds of creative blends and effects, a truly wonderful production, perfectly created together in a bliss of rhythmly beats! Something I just enjoy listening to constantly. If you like Sade, this is sort of like it, but with a sweet kick of juvenating spirit, a tad higher in tone and more imagination, simply put, it's like Sade on steroids! Definitely it's an improvement in the style, but you really can't give it a style as it fluctuates throughout the CD, and every song is simply great.
Underwater Love...........2007-05-20
I purchased this cd after hearing a demo version if Underwater Love, although the cd was a little hard to find, I finally procured a cd, even though it was from out of the country, but once you find a copy of this cd, you will not be disapointed. Their sound is definitely original, and very much their own. The album is seasoned with hints of trip hop and is very much Brazilian flavoured. This is truely a beautiful and brilliant debut album indeed. Other notable releases and projects are the band's second effort, Heroes of Nature, Lost in a Moment by Shrift (Nina Miranda), Da Lata (Chris Franck), Kv5 (Marc Brown), and Chris and Nina by Chris Franck and Nina Miranda should have their new album out sometime in June.
why is it so hard to find?.......2007-03-20
I was lucky i got the "last" one from mediaflow in jersey for $10 so the shipping was nil. Here's an idea you're thinking of buying a cd that you might like but are not sure, well take that money and combine in with a cd you'd like for sure and than buy this because it's so damn good. The music itself is so sick, and then add nina mirandas soft, SEXY vocals and damn you've got good music. She has such a great confident style i love it, the oooh ooh part in devil mood drives me crazy, buy it just for that. When I'm driving somewhere late at night, this cd is default.
Trip-hop French Bossa Nova Bliss.......2006-01-05
I fell in love with the song "Underwater Love" on the Ultimate Chillout CD Collection, but had not heard anything else by Smoke City until I recently purchased this CD. I am so glad that I finally screwed up the courage to pick this up. While I am not as completely blown away by this as some of the other reviewers here are, I am still quite impressed.
The entire album is incredible and all of the songs are just as fabulous as "Underwater Love", some even better I dare say. Sexy, smoky, sophisticated, and completely lounge-worthy. The vocals are incredible, and are delivered in a multiple of languages.
So go ahead, don't be afraid to take a chance on this. I would be hard-pressed to imagine any fan of trip-hop, bossa nova, or downtempo lounge disliking this unique little number, which is a perfect marriage of all three genres.

Fell short, doesn't develop.......2007-03-30
I agree the flavor is there. I agree the cast brought together on this effort are genu-wine! However, each song seems to be burdened by a redundancy and menotony that disappoints. Admittedly, after "Thunder Chicken," which I enjoy greatly, my expectations were perhaps too high. "Do Your Thing" does not get there for me, nor for my crew. Will continue to listen and hopefully that which has taken purchase with others will also be drawn upon me and mine. Keep trying, Papa Mail. Dig your style and art, but this offering has yet to compel.
Swamp-funk at it's finest.......2007-02-06
Papa Mali and crew return from the bayou like a big sweaty "swamp-thing" to instagate a riot for your senses. Oh not just your ears, but your nose will smell the gumbo, barbecued chicken and cornbread. Your eyes will see new, wonderful colors as the big Papa's stoned-soul mardi-gras comes marchin' through your stereo with Isaac Hayes out front as the Grand Marshall, then Henry Butler and his grand piano will come floatin' in to tickle your fancy, and ya' betta get up offa ya' feet as Robb Kidd gets the party rockin' like a one man drum section, opening it all up for the heavies in the middle of the parade; you'll see Wild Magnolia Indians, Dozens of Dirty sousaphone players, you'll see a Prophet claiming he knows the true religion, you might even see a Mofro they call JJ Grey in there grinnin' from ear to ear, and you will be too as your senses take it all in. And just like the Mardi-Gras, I wish this trip didn't have to end, but I think I see New Orleans' finest comin' down the line.....oh.....wait....it's on repeat, aaaahhhh the party never ends.

Cool versions ;-).......2006-03-15
I love R Kelly and all of his music, and now to get some remixes from him is fantastic because while not all artists make good remixes; he has done a great job. The songs on here are all great songs to start with, but now most are enhanced really well. I especially love Your Body's Calling, I Can't Sleep Baby, Down Low and Step In The Name Of Love. They are the best cuts here but for all R Kelly fans, you won't be too disappointed. He's such a talented artist, and this is a fantastic addition to your R Kelly collection.
This Is.........The REMIX!.......2006-03-09
Most R Kelly fans have everything this man has put out anyways. But for those who were late jumping on the bandwagon, Remix City Volume One serves up the hottest (and a few not so hot) remixes that span R Kelly's entire career. Remixes for classics songs like "Bump and Grind," "Slow Dance," "Your Body's Callin'," "Sex Me," "I Can't Sleep Baby," and "Down Low" already make this disc worth the money. Additional jams like the remixes for "I Wish (To The Homies That We Lost)," "I Mean (I Don't Mean It)" "Step In The Name Of Love,"and "Ignition" further exemplify the worth of this disc. Some songs like the two "Feelin' On Your Booty" remixes as well as "Slow Wind" and "Burn It Up" could have been left off and replaced with other remixess. I guess we'll have to wait for the obviously-needed Volume Two for any other jems.
just a point VOL. 2 coming soon.......2005-12-03

only for those who are not familiar with r.kelly.......2005-11-26
first of all, this album is clean! i mean, non explicit. you cant enjoy anything if you have songs filled with blanks and blurs.
i wont say this album is bad. if you're a real r. kelly fan, then you should know or have had possession of these songs for a long line of years now. but if you're not a big r. kelly fan, then i would say this remix collection is a weak perspective of his better work in the past decade.
like i said this is a clean record. it has removed the explicit content of his better songs like "live to regret it" from the "down low" single. ofcourse the remixes inspired from his original 12 play album are just CLASSIC! but once those songs are over you begin to see his style as it has changed over the years and you may even sense how much his remixes lack originality in the latter of the album. i think he really should have included remixes that i find missing from the late 90's like "gotham city remix"-which was an awesome remix, hell even the "street dreams remix" he did with nas was great! or the "did you ever think remixes" or the "i believe i can fly remix", how lush were those?!
over all, this album is a great waste of new material, and could have positively been organized with what does exist in a better order but thats not what we got. this album is only a 5 star album to he/she whom has never had an r.kelly experience.
and even if you wanted a better r.kelly experience, i would have to recommend his self titled album which was a great album in '95, and then the record "R." that he had was even better (not to mention a double disc), but the pinnacle of his best studio albums i would have to say to be "[...]". after that, you're just gonna have to make a draw for it, cuz r.kelly just isnt the r&b pioneer he used to be.
