With the possible exception of Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart," Brooks & Dunn's 1992 mega-hit, "Boot Scootin' Boogie," did more to establish a big country audience for dance numbers than any other song. Today country fans often seem divided between an older crowd that likes to sit in its seats and listen to a heartbreaking ballad and a younger crowd that prefers to jump out of its seats and scoot their boots across the dance floor. Brooks & Dunn may be pioneers of the country-dance movement, but they refuse to take sides in this debate. Waitin' on Sundown is diplomatically divided between uptempo rabble-rousers, kicked along by a loud snare drum, and slow, sentimental confessions, underscored by a pedal steel guitar. As a result, the popular twosome reflects the balance in contemporary mainstream country as well as anyone. --Geoffrey Himes

5 out of 5 stars Exciting third album.......2005-04-27

Kix and Ronnie began their career as a duo with two incredible albums. They have never quite matched that standard since but have nevertheless recorded a string of excellent albums. This was their third album and therefore lives in the shadow of the first two, but it contains a lot of great music. It has a generally mellower feel to it than its predecessors, simply because there are fewer hard-rocking songs and more ballads and mid-tempo songs - however, it is definitely not a mellow album.
The album yielded four major country hits - Little Miss Honky-tonk, Whiskey under the bridge, She's not the cheating kind and You're gonna miss me when I'm gone. Only one song (Silver and gold) did not feature either Kix or Ronnie among the songwriting credits but this, like all the others, is an original song although the song title was not new. For example, Dolly Parton recorded a different song titled Silver and gold for her album, Eagle when she flies.

The album begins with Little Miss Honky-tonk, which is a hard-rocking song of the type I'd come to expect from them. After that comes a series of excellent slow and mid-tempo songs, demonstrating that they can sing a variety of material. The second half of the collection is generally faster than the first half, but the only hard-rocking song is Whiskey under the bridge.

So this album is a little different from their first two but if you enjoy the music of Brooks and Dunn, this is well worth a listen - but buy those earlier albums first.

5 out of 5 stars One of their best !.......2001-12-25

I've been a B&D fan ever since their debut CD in 91'. I think 'Waitin on Sundown' is one of their best. I bought the CD back in 95 & I still listen to it often. 'She's not the cheatin kind', 'Silver & Gold', & 'You're gonna miss me when I'm gone' are my favorite tracks. They are songs that get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. I think this CD should be in any B&D fans collection. I was lucky enough to see them in concert in Evansville, IN back in 97 with Reba. They ROCKED!

5 out of 5 stars B & D strike again........2000-12-30

Brooks and Dunn's 3rd album certainly lives up to their previous ones. It starts off with the danceable "Little Miss Honky Tonk" which will set yer boots to scootin'. Then it slows down a bit for 4 songs before picking up the tempo again. Great songs, great beats, great lyrics, great album. And a great duo.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM!.......2000-01-28

This album is fantastic! It produced what I consider to be two of the best songs of Brooks & Dunn's whole career: She's Not The Cheatin' Kind and You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone. Other good songs are Silver and Gold, I'll Never Forgive My Heart, and Whiskey Under The Bridge. There are a couple of songs that I could've done without, but it's easy to overlook a couple of bad songs when you listen to all of the excellent songs on this album. Buy it today! You'll be glad you did!

5 out of 5 stars A winner.......1999-05-09

This is my fourth Brooks & Dunn purchase. I've bought "If You See Her," "The Greatest Hits Collection," and "Hard Workin' Man" in that order. My favorite song on this album is "Little Miss Honky Tonk," but I like all of the other songs. Compared to "Hard Workin' Man," there are more ballads, but that's not really a bad thing. I am definately buying the remaining two albums . I think that they are one of the greatest vocal duos of all time, if not the greatest.

5 out of 5 stars top quality high voltage country.......2004-10-13

This is a re-release of Brooks & Dunn's third CD from 1994, which has three Billboard # 1 hits ("Little Miss Honkey Tonk", "She's Not the Cheatin' Kind", "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone") and two Top 10 hits ("I'll Never Forgive My Heart" and "Whiskey Under the Bridge") and it's a certified Triple Platinum CD.
With the exception of "Silver and Gold", written by Lunn and Noble, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn penned all the other tracks, either alone or together, and sometimes with a co-writer, like Don Cook, who produced this CD with Scott Hendricks.
All the tracks have brilliant musicianship, predominantly with Ronnie's brawny vocals, and Kix's terrific guitar work.

Brooks & Dunn are the all time top-selling country duo, and only behind Simon & Garfunkel when compared to all genres of music, with 27 million records sold and counting, and with good reason; they are two of the most dependable artists in country music, always giving their fans top quality albums, full of great melodies, danceable rhythms, and fabulous performances.
A solid mix of rip-roarin' country and nice ballads, my favorite track on this CD is perhaps the easy swing of "If That's the Way You Want It", with its marvelous fiddle and piano work.

This re-release does not have a booklet insert, but is at a very nice price, making it a good bargain for your country music collection, or an extra for your car, to make navigating the highways of your life more enjoyable. Total playing time is 35'36.
