"The members of Desert Reign are incredibly creative and hard-working,"
Product Description
Desert Reign has been played coast to coast in Canada, since 1999. The group is comprised of four songwriters/players with a magical mixture of talents and styles. In the beginning the group started securing several Nashville publishing deals, but felt they also wanted to record and perform their own material. Hence the name Desert Reign, and their first release of "Forever In Your Eyes" to radio stations nationwide. Two more single releases followed quickly and the band's first full-length CD was released in July 2001. All three singles have spent significant time on the Canadian Country Charts, with a Top 20 and Top 40 on CMN. Desert Reign has also had two number ones in Europe, as well as being featured on the national Conman radio show in the U.S.A.
Check out this self-titled CD's enhanced portion it has interactive band interviews, hidden web-links, hidden tracks, as well as a Desert Reign game, and other attractions made specifically for our loyal Reign Fans.
Desert Reign is proud to give $1.00 from the sale of each C.D. to the Canadian Safe School Network.

Sensational Vocal Album by Carole Farley and William Bolcom.......2007-02-13
Carole Farley and William Bolcom have recorded this landmark CD, and I can easily understand why this CD received a GRAMMY nomination in the "Best Vocal Recording of the Year" and a 2nd GRAMMY nomination in the "Best Engineered Recording of the Year" category. It's indeed one of the best vocal albums of contemporary songs ever made. Carole Farley, who made her MET debut in the MET's first LULU production, seems to be just at home with Puccini, Poulenc, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and even Latin American popular songs (her Lecuona songs album is extremely beautiful).
William Bolcom's accompaniment is brilliant, and the songs are a revelation.

Great Songs, but Mind the Singer.......2006-07-04
This is one of those discs where the listener has to balance the advantages of the program with the disadvantages of the performance. Bolcom is one of this country's most versatile and brilliant composers, and those qualities are demonstrated to great effect in the songs on this album. His piano playing is, as one would expect, also solid and expressive. The drawback here is Carole Farley. Although her diction and intonation are good, as far as tone-color goes, she seems to be a one-trick pony; and if you don't like that trick (opera singer trying to sound like what she thinks a musical theater singer sounds like), listening to her can get very tiring. So while I highly recommend the disc for its content, I suggest listening to excerpts first before buying just to make sure that the singer's voice doesn't drive you batty.
The Songs of William Bolcom.......2006-02-14
The American composer William Bolcom (b. 1938) is best-known for his large-scale setting of William Blake's "Songs of Innocence and Experience," which is available on a 3-CD Naxos set. This new collection of Bolcom's songs also on Naxos shows the composers's lifelong fascination with Blake. It includes an early lyrical setting of Blake's poem, "Mary" which deals with a beautiful and intelligent young woman and her rejection by her society. In the several torch and cabaret-style works it includes, the collection also shows Bolcom's attempts to fuse classical with popular styles of music. Bolcom also has done so in his piano music, much of which is heavily influenced by ragtime.
The songs on this CD are performed and selected by soprano Carole Farley with Bolcom himself at the piano. Ms. Farley has also recorded for Naxos' "American classics" series a selection of the songs of Ned Rorem with Rorem at the piano. Ms. Farley and Naxos are doing listeners a service by introducing them to the world of the American art song.
The highlight of this CD is the 20-minute song-cycle "I will breathe a mountain" in which Bolcom sets 11 poems by American women. The poems were selected by Alice Fulton, and they include Fulton's own "I will swing those obligatos around" in which the young singer describes a come-on from a boor. The song writing is declamatory in character with many twists, turns, and shouts in the vocal line. Only the setting of H.D.'s "Never More Will the Wind" is lyrical and flowing. Besides Fulton and H.D. the settings include poems by Millay, Gwendolwn Brooks (a poem called "The Crazy Woman" with appropriately wild shrieks) Anne Sexton, Denise Levertov, Marianne Moore (listen to what Ms. Farley makes of the poets wish to be a DRA' GON), Emily Dickinson (in a moving poem of the stillness of a home after death),Louise Bogan, May Swenson, and Elizabeth Bishop. "I will breathe a mountain" is an outstanding and moving contemporary American song-cycle and is in itself sufficient reason for hearing this recording.
The CD also includes a second exquisite cycle, "Songs to Dance" which sets ten miniature poems by George Montgomery. This is a work to be danced as well as sung, and it has apparently been performed live only once, by the composer, his wife, the soprano Joan Morris, and dancer, Dan Wagoner. It has never been recorded before. The work deserves to be heard and seen.
Many of the remaining works on this CD are cabaret-style theatrical pieces that Bolcom composed in collaboration with lyricist Arnold Weinstein. The best of these are two torch songs from a show called "Casino Paradise": Night Make my Day (a parody of the torch style which is sometimes performed straight) and "My Father the Gangster", in which a young woman laments how men are, understandably, worried about her father and afraid to approach her. The collection opens with a scream by Ms. Farley in the erotic novelty "You cannot have me now", about the affairs of the wife of a German officer, sung with a heavily inflected German accent and also set to words by Weinstein.
I enjoyed Bolcom's short setting of May Swenson's poem "The Digital Wonder Watch" with the tick-ticking in the piano. This song is a satire of technology, with the poet describing the features of her "wonderful watch" while asking: "Does it show how to wind up/a broken heart?" The other songs on the CD include the passionate "The Last Days of Mankind", conceived for rock singer Marianne Faithful, two eloquent settings of poems by Richard Tillinghast, and four concluding early collaborations between Bolcom and Weinstein.
This CD offers an opportunity to explore the world of American song in the works of a leading contemporary composer. The cycle, "I will breathe a mountain" will be a lasting achievement in American art song.

Great cd...could've been even better.......2002-03-04
i like this cd.but not love it...my favorite song is some kinda wonderful..its so fun anc cute to listen to...they really need variety...all the songs sounds kinda like the same....which is boring...but i want to reccomend this cd if you like a different kinda pop.
Great for Summertime Driving.......2001-12-21
I first saw the video for "Love Song" on the now defunct Box cable music channel. The video itself was pretty cool; two goodlooking guys singing at a club surrounded by lots of attractive, racially diverse (seriously, a nice touch without seeming like they were patronizing minorities!), fun-loving and um, affectionate people. Although the video didn't quite suit the freshness of "Love Song" that I believe is Sky's trademark, it didn't clash with the song entirely, and unconsciously stressed Sky's ability to fuse two complete opposites (in this case, the almost innocent freshness of the song and the eager carnality of the video)and make it work both artistically and stylistically.
The main vocals are that of a man who sounds honest and trustworthy, yet is not ignorant to the ways of the world. The integrity of his voice carries over in songs like the aforementioned "Love Song," "Push," and "Dreaming." However, he shows his experience in the big bad world in songs like the excellent "Strange," which expresses a lifestyle built on extreme pleasures that has no regard for the destruction it leaves in its wake. "Strange" accomplishes so much because not only does it reveal the self-centeredness of those seeking out that lifestyle, it also reveals the conscience that they try to hide, the desire to reform, and the fact that no matter who we try to force ourselves to be, we cannot change what we in fact are. It is no mistake that the vocals express so much: the duo Sky wrote their own songs, so who better to interpret the exact feeling of each song's composition than themselves?
I have both versions of Sky's "Piece of Paradise"; the American release and the even more rare (here in the U.S.) Canadian release. (If you can, get the Canadian version: It has two more songs that were unfortunately cut from the American release.) Sky's music is the kind that you want to load into the CD player on a summer afternoon for a long drive. Learn the lyrics as quickly as you can, so you can sing along, too.
Great effort, but results...?!.......2001-06-30
When I heard "Push" on the radio, it was as if it was saying to me, "go get the CD, go get the CD!". I was simply addicted to that song. When they came to Vancouver, I finally decided to get their debut album, along with their priceless autograph on it.
Not many Canadian pop bands have made it big (not back then anyway-now we have SoulDecision), and many thought Sky would be the first, but they decided to break up and reform after one album-this one, called "Piece of Paradise". The CD isn't half bad, actually. They have distinctive voices, and efforts of trying to put variation and diversity into the album is apparent, though the result wasn't as great. There's a bit of everything in this CD...pop, rock, R&B, and even rap (in "Powder", featuring another Canadian star, Meesah). Sky also tries to portray a variety of subjects lyrically, but not all of them made sense in the songs. Even to this day, I have not figured out what "Shave" and "America" are trying to say. (Anyone who does...please feel free to email me). The words to their hit single "Love Song" also doesn't piece together, although I've almost analyzed the lyrics to death. If you listen to it carefully, it can sound a little creepy: "We think he's alive but the flies make me wonder why/It's a never ending pile I'm raking..." The album also includes a few ballads, "You and I", "I Will Survive", and "All I Want". These are beautiful, but quite alike and repetitive, with all the similar songs that are already out there. One of the highlights of the whole album would have to be "Strange"; somebody finally decided to write a song about the beauty of orginality!
Sky was often compared with the Australian duo Savage Garden. They were actually quite similar in several ways. First of all, they were both duos from a country other than United States, where most major bands are born. They both had diversity in their albums (or at least tried), and were not just typical boy-bands who don't write their own songs and just wouldn't stop singing about love. They are each very capable songwriters. Also, they are both on the verge of breaking up-well, Sky has already reformed, and lead singer from Savage Garden is apparently coming out with a solo album soon.
All in all, this is a great CD with good efforts, as both singers and songwriters.
SKY - PIECE OF PARADISE.......2001-01-30
PIECE OF PARADISE - The first and only release from the now broken up duo Sky. The success of the title released track "Love Song" is nothing less than evident of what to expect from the rest of the cd. Simply amazing. Sounds including Rnb/pop/rock are all covered. Try the samples above before you buy, you will not be disappointed. Resident, DEE JAY.
My favorite cd!.......2000-07-03
When I bought this cd the only Sky song I knew was Love Song but I love all of them! My favorite song on this cd is Shave. The vocals in this song are awesome. Buy this cd!

.....'practically' paradise ( 4.5 stars ).......2003-08-27
Sky is perhaps one of the most amazing hybrid bands, SINCERELY fusing funk with pop and r&b.
'Some Kind Of Wonderful' is perhaps one of the most infectious tunes on this earth. Powered by a horn section that has zip, yet doesn't toot all over the place, and cool, I mean COOL lyrics, it places on so many people's "fav tunes of all time" lists. It did on mine!
'Love Song' lashes out and speeds up for a hurricane of great rock riffs and slammin' beats. Antoine and James make this one a room shaker, regardless of the odd lyrics (still don't get them).
The kick resumes in the mega funk 'Shave' while it tones down, still keepin' hot in 'Push'. A featherweight in sound, yet sweet and grand, comes 'All I Want' and the more cascading 'I Will Survive'.
My favourite track, barely edging out 'Wonderful'....is 'Powder'. A real interesting funky one, and even though it doesn't speed, rock, or croon, it is the cool of cool. Get into it, you'll see.
One of the best albums I have ever heard in my life-, minus the two bonus tracks: they aren't throw aways, but don't really fit in here and are a bit bland.
Also check out all the other tracks, especially 'Strange' and 'You And I'.
Their next album after here was the just as amazing yet different 'Traveling Infinity' with Anastasia up for lead vocals.
SKY ROCKS.......2000-04-15
I just want to say this cd is the best! I've listened to it constantly since I bought it in August 99. It has all different types of music on it and fans of any type of music would love it. Since i've got the cd i've become SKY's biggest fan. This is their only cd because they broke up March 1st

Album Description
"This Side of Paradise" is a mature debut replete with all the trappings that have made Moir a well-known name-at least in music industry circles.Lush melodies and syncopated arrangements call to mind such artists as Michael McDonald, Paul simon and Boz Scaggs, but Moir's debut as a vocalist makes each track shimmer with individuality and heartfelt emotion. It's a funky and yet suprisingly gentle record, full of instantly hummable tunes and lyrics that reflect the thought's of an artist who's taken time to create an enduring piece of work.
Customer Reviews:
On His Own !.......2002-09-14
It's amazing what the Prince and the Revolution/The Time bandmembers and protegees have been able to create on their own without the Purple One's influence over the years ! True, Monte Moir wrote some gems for Janet Jackson, The Time, Alex O'Neal back in the 80's. However, do not anticipate the same highly charged Minneapolis electro-funk to emerge. It's not the mid 80's anymore. The "Minneapolis Sound" is another lifetime away; This is more like "Moir's Sound". Moir's sound is very down to earth, organic and soothing ! While this may be a great cd to relax to it will not induce a coma. His vocal abilities are reminiscent of a young Boz Scagggs (with a higher and lighter sound) with a hint of Mick Hucknall from Simply Red that blend in harmoniously without ever fading. Overall, This Side of Paradise is intelligent adult contemporary pop with underlying tones of soft R & B with classical influences. It also borders on light jazz. One standout track is the beautifully acoustical Save Your Love For Me. This is an excellent cd to listen to on a soft rainy day or an autumn evening ! This is serious music for serious listeners (and no, it is not a "chick" album...if half of us guys could write and perform music the way Moir does for the ladies...well, you all know the rest)...
This ain't yo daddy's Time album!.......2002-04-02
Monte Moir was a founding member of The Time whose hits have included "The Walk", "Cool", "Jungle Love", "777-9311", "Jerk Out" and "The Bird". But Monte's first solo CD is far from the funk of The Time. Without sticking Moir to "sounds like" statements, I will say that if you like singers like James Taylor or Jim Croce, you'll love "This Side of Paradise". The songs are gentle, but far from boring. His hooks are catchy, and you find yourself singing the tunes when the CD is over. There are some smooth ballads, as well as great mid-tempo tunes. This CD is perfect for a Sunday afternoon, or just an evening home w/ the one you love. Check out tracks like "On My Way Home", "For Want And Desire", "All Right By Me" and the title track. The package as a whole works well. The songs flow perfectly from one to the next. Moir's craft of song writing is not only evident on this freshman solo project, but is also in need of the question "Why not sooner?" His talents as keyboard player for The Time were shown in some regards, but after hearing this CD, you realize they've also been hidden. When it comes to that of being a piano player and songwriter, you realize Moir is in his prime on this album. The Time continues to tour, but a great contrast to the machismo of that, is the warmth of this CD. If you don't have it now, GET IT! ...Keep up the good work Monte!

Absolutely delightful music making! Add to your collection.......2003-10-30
Don Bailey has released a CD that showcases a number of lesser-known flute jewels, and the flute world should be grateful to him for it. These pieces are beautiful, and the musicians offer lovely and convincing interpretations. The recording quality is superb, the energy level high, and the flute playing extraordinary. Add this CD to your collection, because it's one you'll listen to again and again.
Soothing fluting.......2000-08-09
This CD really is a musical voyage by reknowned Floutist Don Bailey. It takes the listener on a journey through a varied musical landscape that is at times dark and brooding and at other times, lighthearted and gay. This music, although fine for the casual listener, is really a treat for the trained musicians ear. Don Bailey is a musician's musician, and one worth listening to.

Album Description
