I loved this movie, and I love the soundtrack too. It's beautiful. We listen to it all the time.

I am no expert on music; however, I believe that this soundtrack was a good one. I can listen to all 7 songs, I agree with the rest of you that there should be an 8th in the form of Aerosmith's "Dream On." I absolutely love this movie and the music to it. If you love the movie then you need to have this soundtrack.

I was all set to get the CD until I heard it and found out there was no "Dream On." What???!!! How could they? The best song in the movie, the one they used for the trailers and TV spots and in the credits, and they don't have it? That was the only reason I wanted the CD. Even though I like "Don't Fear the Reaper" by the BLue Oyster Cult. But I don't understand how they could not add "Dream On".

Even so, I still love the movie. Thank God I have the DVD to listen to "Dream On" in the credits all I want.

I was disappointed that this CD did not include the theme music played when the US tied Sweden (two staccato eigth notes, quarter rest, two staccato eighth notes, quarter rest, etc.).

Nevertheless...

Three notes. Over and over. And over. Mark Isham has made a good attempt at composing varations on a theme which consists of just three notes. During the earlier parts of the movie it works, as we are being introduced to the characters and the journey they're following. Isham was fantastic with the music he wrote for that ten minutes of tension and bedlam that occurred while the US was hanging on to their 4-3 lead.

But when time finally ran out and the game officially won, we hear those same. Three. Notes. And it lacked meat. It sounded like a small chamber orchestra. It was very disappointing. By the time the movie is over, we feel like those three notes have been beaten into our skull with a broken hockey stick. A worthy effort, but an unsuccessful one.

Also disappointing was the fact that the "Miracle" track on this CD was "summarized." All we hear is the music for the goal scored by Buzz Schneider, then a Soviet goal, then the buildup of the final 10 minutes, then the ending. Again, where was Mark Johnson's tying goal (the same theme as when the US tied Sweden)?

Still, it's a must-own for anyone who is insanely addicted to the movie like I am. It's just too bad they weren't able to get John Williams for the score.

A great movie, with great music, and great script. Casting was superb.

I watch this with my 8 year old grandson who is empowered by its magic and miracle.

I just jumped on net to order soundtrack and found that Dream On is missing. What a tradegy to cheat the public of such a song that was the eternal identifier and the guts of the movie.

Somebody screwed up. Where are they working now?

    Rachmaninoff's first symphony was a failure when it was premiered and the reaction of critics and the audience reportedly led to the composer's emotional breakdown. He was subsequently treated by the early psychiatrist Dr. Dahl and encouraged, by hypnotic therapy, to resume his composing. The result of that treatment was the second piano concerto, which was warmly received and ultimately became one of the composer's most popular and admired works.

    Rachmaninoff destroyed the manuscript of the first symphony and made it clear he never wanted to hear the music again. However, the orchestral parts survived and were discovered in 1945. The work was performed again and this time warmly received. Music that had seemed shocking 50 years earlier was now admired by critics, musicians, and audiences. Nevertheless, the symphony has seldom been performed or recorded. One of the first recordings was by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra for Columbia Records. Here is a modern performance that has all the beauty and intensity of the Ormandy recording plus some absolutely brilliant playing by the BBC Welsh Orchestra.

    The symphony is typical of the more moody works of Rachmaninoff with a great deal of variety in its melodies, rhythms, harmonies, and orchestration. It deserves to be performed more often. However, it has been eclipsed by the much more popular second symphony and, to a lesser extent, the late third symphony (premiered in 1936 and even recorded by the composer with the Philadelphia Orchestra for RCA Victor). Anyone who really loves the music of Rachmaninoff will enjoy the incredible emotional range of this symphony, from darkly somber moments to sheer triumphs. As was often the case in Rachmaninoff's music, he utilized the intense ancient melody "Dies Irae," especially in the final moments.

    The companion pieces on this CD are orchestrations of four etude-tableaux for piano by Rachmaninoff. The Italian composer Ottorino Respighi was asked to make these arrangements of some very popular piano pieces. Although Rachmaninoff had little to say about the finished orchestrations, they are clearly much in the vein of the actual orchestral works the Russian composer wrote. They are a welcome addition to Rachmaninoff's orchestrated compositions and, once again, offer a variety of musical languages. The BBC orchestra performs them with great ability and sensitivity. Rachmaninoff's vision of the famous Red Riding Hood story, complete with a roaring wolf, is a particular delight.

    Although most Schwarzkopf fans will have a lot of the lieder in this set, very few will have the opera selections, most of which are sung in English (Magic Flute, Traviata). The interview is also very interesting.

      The subject matter is a mixture of dark powerful rock; mostly concerning the human condition in exploration of the supernatural. The music is interesting....moderately heavy in places, with mixtures of keyboards and and strings sprinkled throughout. I would liken the music as a cross between 80's genre Ronnie James Dio/Udo (even a little Geoff Tate of Queensryche) for subject matter and voice, and a likening of classical Deep Purple instrumentally. The guitars, however, are not complex or overpowering....very simple in the chord and riff structure, and an absence of the neoclassical solos; very appropriate for the songs. This is not music for the stereo typical modern headbanger (though big fans of the 80's rock will love the music), as it is not heavy metal; it takes an appreciation for the different genres and classifications of hard rock to really dig this music. From a cursory musical standpoint you think, not bad; but it really is good because it takes talent to make music of this unique quality.
