Since 2000's `Sincere' album, M J Cole has been pretty quiet on the recording front (apart from a handful of remix work), but he confidently reminds us here, why he's possibly one of the most refined & elegant producers in 2 Step/Garage. Never straying to far from the template & approach that earmarked `Sincere'. There's a plethora of guest vocalists here, that provide the lyrical content for Cole's extravagant String & beat arrangements. Nu-soul torch bearer `Jill Scott' injects Soul Passion into the 2 step breaks of "Perfect Pitch". Dancehall gets a mainstream makeover (less controversial) with the booty Shake of "Elephant Man's - Mad Man". Hip-Hop is seamlessly integrated into the album with U.K. rapper `Fallacy's' quick fire rhymes upping the tempo considerable with agreeably pleasing results. As is Cole's trademark, sumptuous string arrangements underpin a handful of beautiful tracks, but more surprising is the intimate piano instrumental to opens the album.....and confirms this album easily as worthy as "Sincere".

Not only is Nadine an enchanting songstress, but much to my surprise and extreme delight, she writes her own lyrics. I have listenend to her CD at least 100 times, and never tire of it. I think her entire Cd is wonderful, but by far "Cut To The Chase", the title song, that Nadine Chase wrote herself is by far the best song I have heard in years. BUY IT !!!

WOW - Great first CD.......2001-04-03

I live in the Boston area and have had the pleasure to hear Nadine live on a number of occassions; enough to start seeking out her performances. I picked up her new CD to round out my female jazz vocal collection. To my pleasant surprise, it has been monopolizing my CD player ever since. It really is superb! The CD is well produced, highlights her great phrasing along with the excellent instrumentalists that accompany her.

Ill flows.......2006-02-28

I'm writing this review because I don't understand why more people aren't listening to Chase Phoenix. This is my small effort to correct the situation. Cut to the Chase is a really smooth album with tight rhymes, hot beats from the eminently talented Blockhead, and some quality guest spots from Aesop and others. It all comes together well. With lyrics that convey some meaning rather than just serve as thoughtless fills between choruses, Chase is a bit like Slug, except the music is a lot more fun to listen to. Still not mainstream enough to get serious airplay, but that's in itself reflective of the care he clearly puts into his craft. This guy's one of the hottest new MCs in the game; this debut album is definitely worth picking up.

Excellent and on-point - but not quite a classic........2004-04-27

When I first heard Chase Phoenix's album "Cut to the Chase" on the BattleAxe website, more specifically the cuts "Most People Know", "In-Crowd", and "Anti-Social Behavior", I was mildly impressed...the key word being mild. I went out and bought it at a local record shop a couple of weeks later, and was again mildly impressed. Chase is the newest acquisition of Canadian / L.A. based hip-hop label BattleAxe Records, and thier subsidary, Underworld Records (who are responsible for distributing the "Lyrics of Fury" compilations and Moka Only's first album "Moka Only is...Ron Contour"). He has an impressive list of credentials to go along with this album...it features production by Dub-L and Blockhead, and guest verses from Aesop Rock and Jemini the Gifted One. For the most part, both the guest spots and production are tight. The subject matter is good. Chase's voice is very listenable. However, there's just something that didn't sit well with me...Chase's rhymes. Chase is one of those MCs who, like Prevail of Swollen Members, and the prince of nerd rap, Aesop Rock, who has a tendency to write a lot of rhymes that don't, well...exactly rhyme. A lot of the words sound vaugely familiar...but I'm not a huge fan of hip-hop that just sounds like talking, with no rhyming. Other than that, this is an extremely good album, but be advised - it's only recommended for the heads. Four stars.
Standout tracks are "Feel So..."feat. Jemini the Gifted One, the Talib Kweli/Get By rip-off track "Twentysomething" and "In Crowd".

SEEING HOW TIM IS MARRIED TO MY THIRD COUSIN. ME AND MY HUSBAND
REALLY THINK ALOT OF TIM AND HIS MUSIC AND HOPE TO HEAR MORE
GOOD SONGS FROM HIM. MY FAVORITE ON THIS CD IS LITTLE ANGEL SMILES,WE WERE ONE OF THE FIRST TO HERE IT AFTER TIM WROTE IT,

I once lived in this small town where this young man lives. Him and his family are very close and dear to me. He allways
said one day his dreams would come true, and I also said if anybody ever got a chance to hear him sing that he would go to the top. I really believe he puts his heart and soul into his music, thats what makes every one of his songs so special .
I have everyone I know in cleveland , ms. enjoying his music,
they cant wait for more. I have only had his cd for one week but I know the words to all the songs already.

I bought the album at a local store in the artist hometown,and thought it was the greatest album recorded. I personly know the girl he wrote "She's Mine" for,and know that he cares for her deeply. i was also there when the story of the song "Where have you been". It's really a true story of the artist life. Anyone who buys this album will not regret it.

I have had my album for a couple of months. I got it from the artist himself. It is a great album the songs on it are heart felt. Little Angel Smiles, will touch you. No matter what your age is. Always and Forever,if you have a special love in your life you will relate to this song. She's Mine is a song every mother will truely understand, but you always hope for someone to love your child that much. I really love this album and hope in the near future to be hearing more of Tim Aaron.
