Embraced on the Texas college circuit as a younger generation's Jerry Jeff Walker, Pat Green leaves little doubt in his music about what he likes (drinking beer, wandering free, driving through the Texas hill country) and what he doesn't (people who judge other people). After a series of indie releases, his major-label debut continues his carefree celebration of the Lone Star life--on toe-tapping anthems such as "Carry On," "Take Me Out to a Dancehall," and "Texas on My Mind" (written by Jerry Jeff's son Django Walker)--while extending his range with more thoughtful, subtle material such as "Galleywinter." Willie Nelson joins Green for a trans-generational duet on "Threadbare Gypsy Soul," while the title cut is a songwriting collaboration with Radney Foster. For those who love the likes of Robert Earl Keen, the happy-go-lucky Green is no worse than Robert Earl lite. --Don McLeese

Loaded with lyrics about nightmares, pain, isolation and broken relationships, One X, the sophomore effort from Three Days Grace should be a downright bummer of a ride. Instead, the listener manages to find uplift lurking beneath the weighty lyrics as the quartet churns out a series of anthemic, crunch-chord songs. The band moves from arena-ready light metal with "It's All Over" to the sex groove of "Animal I Have Become," before plunging the listener into full-on chaotic heaviness during the anti-alienation anthem "Riot" and easing us into the atmospheric future hit "Get Out Alive." Throughout, TDG remains true to its core alt-metal sound. While that sound has been called unimaginative and unoriginal and at times does feel a little too familiar, the material on One X is never less than convincing and it packs a serious and stinging rock `n' roll punch track after track. --Jedd Beaudoin

Sorry Lyrics.......2007-07-06
The band is excellent. They are good musicians and play tightly together. The problem is the lyrics are awful. This is nothing less than nightmares set to music. If you have these same thoughts running through your head, seek some professional psychiatric help. Absolutely not recommended for young listeners. Parents you are warned. No wonder the record industry is on the ropes.
Fabulous.......2007-06-28
I think I blew out a speaker in my car listening to this CD... It is fabulous

My Favorite CD
Three Days Grace is not only for one group of people. A lot of people I know and people I don't know love Three Days Grace.Rockers, punk, and the girls scream for them. I went to their concert when they came to buffalo and they were sweet. I never heard a band that sounded just as good live as they are on the CD.Here are some of there songs: Are You Ready, Pain, Never Too late, Just Like You, I Hate Everything About You, and tons more.
When I first listened to the CD I never stopped. In my opinion this CD is amazing and I can't wait until they make another one.I play the drums and when I heard the drummer I was BLOWN away.
I recommend this CD to everyone who is willing to listen to something new.You will be impressed,Even my mom loves them.
One X.......2007-06-12
I like the CD One X by Three Days Grace. This CD has 12 songs on it. These songs are about 3 minutes long. Three Days Grace is a Canadian band. I like the songs Riot, One X and all the other song on the CD. There is some swearing in three of the songs. My opinion of this CD would be a 10 out of 10. I love this CD so much that I downloaded it on my I pod. I would recommend this CD to kids that are older than 12 because of the swearing. I would also recommend this CD to people that like rock music

Great CD, Shipping took a little longer than expected, but it was worth it. I love it.
goes downhill after "Home".......2007-05-24
Canada is famous for producing mainly three things: Nickelback, insanely cheap prescriptions, and Three Days Grace. This quartet of Canadian rockers really know how to keep you listening... til about track 4. Then, the rest of the CD is just filler. Here are my favorite tracks, in order:
1) Home: In my opinion, the best Three Days Grace song ever. I really identify with some of the lyrics: "I'll be coming home just to be alone... no matter how hard I try, you're never satisfied... I can hardly wait til you get off my case!!" Relatively easy to learn on guitar, too.
2) Just Like You: Second-best TDG song ever. Also, the only song I can do halfway good on drums.
3) Burn: Average, but still good.
4) (I Hate) Everything About You: Way too overplayed, but still a good song; I really like the video.
Other than tracks 1-4, you really don't need to get this debut CD. It's good, yeah, but it can be better.
3DG's Eponymous Debut........2007-05-16
During the summer of 2003, Canadian group Three Days Grace put out their first full-length effort, garnering them widespread attention and propelling them into mainstream success. 3DG play a brand of post-grunge modern rock, and they've certainly become a favorite modern contemporary of mine in that vein. This album seethes with emotive energy, adhering to themes of bitter losses, to maintaining individuality, and tug-o-war relationships. While the songwriting may not be considerably groundbreaking, it weaves with the melodic choruses to make for some distinct and memorable tracks. While the singles are strong in their own right, noted favorites here are the up-tempo and forceful "Scared," the false re-assurance of "Let You Down," the hollow resilience of "Drown," and the shot of redemption found in "Wake Up." "Take Me Under" is also hauntingly catchy, starting off slowly, with the "Take me all the way" verse that embedded itself into my mind for some time, before bursting into the chorus. And "Overrated" can be deciphered depending on the listener's point of view.
When it comes to modern rock, you really can't go wrong here. Three Days Grace have made a name for themselves since their debut, and I'm sure they'll be conducting a strong following for years to come.
Three Days Grace.......2007-05-15
This album is an excellent debut disk for Three Days Grace. Their hits come early in the album and the undiscovered songs is a jewel that people that only download their music will never find. However some of the music could be helped out if it was more complex. If you liked this CD then I would buy Three Day's Grace's sophmore album One-X Which they bring in a second guitar player, and expand on their strengths.

This four-disc album--like the famed August 1969 rock festival it chronicles--is something of a sprawling, disorderly, engaging mess. Issued as a box set 25 years after the counterculture tribal gathering, it amasses the original three-record Woodstock set from 1970, its two-LP 1971 sequel, Woodstock II, and a generous store of previously unreleased tracks from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, the Band, Jimi Hendrix, and others. There's plenty of chaff to go with the wheat (one is tempted to conclude John ("Far out!") Sabastian's blissed-out rant hasn't aged well, but it's just as likely most of the crowd at Yasgur's Farm would have gagged him if given half a chance, and Jefferson Airplane and Crosby, Stills & Nash clearly had better days). But Sly & the Family Stone, Joe Cocker, Santana, and Richie Havens shine, the stage patter has become part of the lexicon, and the whole package now stands as a remarkable account of a pivotal musical and cultural event. --Steven Stolder
Customer Reviews:
good - but seems lacking.......2007-07-05
I was excited to receive this as a gift from my wife. I have recently started collecting classic recordings - or at least those from artists who had a significant influence either in their time or over the years. Since I have just started building up my library, I didn't have any recordings of Woodstock performances - and a box set would seem the best approach.
While reading through the contents, it took a few moments to realize that this set represented just a fraction of the festival: Three days of music vs. 4 CDs. A great deal was omitted. I found this disappointing. I don't understand why a box set of the entire festival doesn't exist - or at least I can't find it. The recordings must be there (e.g., Hendrix's Live at Woodstock).
Aside from being only a fraction of the festival, the collection doesn't feature all of the bands that were present, some were significant e.g., Grateful Dead, Blood Sweat and Tears (but at least Sha-Na-Na made the cut, right?). While it might be understandable to abbreviate the festival to produce a more compact set, to capture the event from a historical perspective I would think the set should include a representative set - or at least song - of all who appeared.
Incompleteness aside, what can be said about what is included? The balance among the artist sets seems disproportionate. In some cases, the recordings contain almost the entire playlist for one artist, such as CSNY, Jefferson Airplane, while others received considerably less space in the set: Hendrix, The Who, The Band (but at least they were there).
What I found more disappointing was the editing of the discs themselves. The flow wasn't really there. Although I listened to all four discs in one sitting, I didn't think the essence of the event was really captured. It didn't blend well. I believe the order of the artists was preserved but it still didn't have the feel I think it could have. But then again, can a recording really capture the true spirit and experience?
All that said, I still think the set has some merit. There are some amazing tracks contained in the collection. I found the quality of the recordings good was able to enjoy the music (but I'm not a hardcore audiophile).
So, for someone such as myself who had but a few tracks from Woodstock performances contained on compilations, this set offers a nice starting point. If, however, you are searching for the set of a particular artist, you'll have to look elsewhere. I hope to see an unabridged collection appear before long.
Nostalgic.......2006-07-28
Needed the Woodstock feel and sound. Missing the Grateful Dead. How can they leave out the greatest band in the land!!!!! The rest is fun.
Woodstock:25th Anniversary.......2006-02-18
I am happy with this purchase. I was too young to be there, but this took me back to some awesome artist's performances. Even my own kids are enjoying it, even though they never heard of Woostock.
It Could Have Been a Contender.......2006-01-06
Several CDs and DVDs are available that cover Woodstock. I still recall listening to the first vinyl album from Woodstock. I was impressed at the time, inadequate as that first recording was. There have been other attempts at capturing the Woodstock experience, each with their own successes and failures. I thought that a boxed set commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Woodstock would have been something that a fan of 60s cutting edge music would be a requirement for my collection. I was wrong.
This collection does offer the most music of any of the collections of which I am aware. However, this collection also removes some of the better songs from the earlier collections, and adds all new mistakes. My biggest complaint is in the flow of the music. The music is chronologically out of order, which makes this album more of an excerpt of Woodstock versus a representation of Woodstock. Second, Woodstock lasted for days, and someone decided that these four hours of music were how fans should remember Woodstock. I like much of the music on these CDs, but there is so much more and more that is better, and I feel short changed. There are a few more famous songs from the cutting edge artists, but how did Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (who I really like) get almost half a CD while other famous artists, such as The Who, get one song? Who picked this music?
I also recall that some of the previous Woodstock albums had more announcements and more talk on stage. This CD seems to have reduced that material as extraneous. I once thought the material was extraneous, but now, in my nearly old age, I find the extraneous material helps provide a better feel for the Woodstock experience.
I am also surprised that the sound was not more improved. I expected with improved technology there would be improved sound. The sound is better than the early Woodstock albums, but still not as good as I think it could be.
The 25th anniversary boxed set was an opportunity for someone to make a truly historic and meaningful music statement about Woodstock. Instead, someone seems to have picked artists that they may have thought were more popular or better remembered, and overlooked some of the more influential artists or songs. Opportunities such as this come along all too infrequently, and it is a shame that such an important opportunity was missed for this event. Wait for the next boxed set with six or eight CDs, with someone guiding that project with a vision of how to really represent Woodstock.
Oh it's Good...But Sure Could've Been Better! .......2005-05-13
I got this CD box set for Christmas 1995 after I had just turned 19 years old. For years I had wanted a Woodstock collection that packed on a whole lot of the unreleased music from that 3 day event. Granted I had been listening to the original two Woodstock L.P. sets since I was 11 or so and was always a bit disapointed with both of those sets. For starters I was always pissed that on the soundtrack albums the songs were edited down. On the movie I heard exciting parts in certain performances, most notably Ten Years After and Sly and the Family Stone, that were cut out for the soundtrack albums. And the Whos "Summertime Blues?" Where was it? Guess they couldn't have had both "Live At Leeds" and the Woodstock soundtrack with the same song! Don't get me wrong! The original "Woodstock" 3 record set is awesome and is like a version of the movie all on it's own I just wanted the movie verions of the songs on there. Then came the Anniversary set that Christmas...
WHERE IS "I WANNA TAKE YOU HIGHER" BY SLY?!?!?! WHO DECIDED TO CUT THAT ONE FROM THE COLLECTION???? Could it be the master tapes were damaged on that song? I doubt it but I wasn't there when they were compiling this thing so I really don't know. WHY DOES JIMIS FINAL GUITAR SOLO ON "PURPLE HAZE" FADE OUT FAR TOO EARLY??? What was there not enough room after disc 4 got saturated with more CSN&Y than anyone really wanted??? WHY NO STAGE ANNOUNCEMENTS EXCEPT A SECONDS WORTH SHOVED AWAKWARDLY BETWEEN COUNTRY JOE AND TEN YEARS AFTER ON DISC 3???? I wonder if he ever made it to the Information Booth? IF JOHN SEBASTIAN PLAYED ON SATURDAY WHY IS HE CRAMMED UP ONTO DISC 1??? The first day of the festival wasn't all acoustic guitars mind you. WHERE'S THE RAIN CHANT???? You wouldn't have had to put the whole thing on there (who knows how long it actually went on) but a sampling would have been nice, big part of the movie you know. THE REMASTERING COULD HAVE BETTER ON SOME OF THESE TRACKS!!! The horn section of Janis' "Work Me Lord" hurts my ears in that middle eighth break there. The final "HIGHER" cries from the audience on the "Sing-a-long" sound so separated it's almost like they are digitally "sampled" instead of being on the master tape. AND NO MAX YASGUR SPEECH. I'm not even going to comment here on that one....disgaceful that.
Phew! What's good? Ten Years After ripping all 11 minutes worth of "I'm Going Home" (chicken scratching part included near the end). Johnny Winters "Mean Town Blues," 3 songs from the Bands set, CCR, the full drum solo in Santanas "Soul Sacrafice" (or so we are lead to believe), a little bit of Leslie West and Mountain, "Handsome Johnny" finally seeing light of day from Richie Havens, Canned Heat doing "Leaving This Town/A Change Is Surely Gonna Come." That's all good and worth it if your a big fan of this festival. Bottom line it gets 3 stars for being a GOOD box set but not a GREAT one.

Customer Reviews:
great CD.......2007-02-26
I love this CD; it is one of my all time favorites and I am a long term music lover (48 years?). This is about the third or fourth copy of this I have purchased(my kids keep taking my CDs). I absolutely love it!!! It is my favorite of my Pat Green CDs; I love "Carry On", "Threadbare Gypsy Soul with Willie Nelson", "Three days", "Whiskey", "Standing in the Texas Sun", "Crazy", etc, etc, etc. The fiddle on this CD is wonderful!
good record.......2005-10-19
When I first read about Pat Green, he was refered to as Guy Clark lite i.e. someone who is trying to mine the authentic Texan vein of song story lines. And its true that at times Pat can get so enamored with writing about the myth of the unending Texas party that it can be tiresome. However at his best on songs like "Three Days", "Carry On", and "Threadbare Gypsy Soul, " it becomes clear that he is the real deal.
IMHO he is one of the folks who has been hurt by the development of the cd and the requirement for more songs to fill the available time. If this was the 35-43 minute album of 20 years ago it would be a country classic
Good.......2004-06-18
I think it's average, hence the three star rating. I got it several months ago and haven't listened to it in almost that long. The title track, the last track (Texas on My Mind), the duet, Wrong Side of Town, and Galleywinter are all nice songs. Pat Green has a little extra something in his sound that makes his music stand above most of what's out there in country today.
My Favorite CD.......2003-12-30
This is by far my favorite CD. Though the first time I listened to it, it didn't grab me, I gave it a few more chances, and each time it grew on me, so if you are not a huge fan the first time you listen to it do not give up hope!! Now I can barely get myself to listen to anything else. I am addicted. I love every single song on this CD (and his others as well) but my favorites are "Whiskey" and "Galleywinter." If you do not own this CD and choose not to, you are truly missing out.
Pat Green is awesome.......2003-06-10
To be quite honest, I never really gotten into country until I heard Pat Green. This guy plays in front of a packed house every time he comes down to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. This CD is great, but you should buy his others because he is a truely great songwriter for the college aged crowd. If you haven't heard of Pat Green, you are deprived. Every song on this album is great for any road trip, especially going through Texas.

Nice music but..........2007-03-08
I liked the music and the performances a lot, but there is no booklet to depict the performers, nor analyse the music or the arrangements, which are superb
Great CD.......2007-02-16
This is a great holiday CD. We used it for several holiday dinners this year.
A Noble and Festive Christmas.......2007-01-21
This is the best Christmas album you could ever get. It is the most stable as you do not have to think about it. This is the album you really sing along to. Brass makes everything festive, grand and noble; so will your Christmas! A gem for every year!
Meat and Potatoes.......2007-01-18
Since the release of this fine recording in 1967 there have been many fine
brass groups:The Canadian Brass, the Empire Brass, just to name a few.
Whereas these latter groups have all resorted to "gimmicks" such as unique arrangements to sell their albums this group of brass players from the Philadelphia Orchestra give us an album of good old "meat and potatoes" playing spiced with fine tone, good ensemble playing, and good tempos.
Totally Awesome.......2007-01-12
I love listening to this cd at christmas. The brass is so crisp, almost like being right there. You have to add this to your holiday collection, and for those of you who like brass, you will love it. I play the french horn and I esp. love hearing the french horn in it.

In perspective these are some of the most popular songs of their time. I enjoy the historical value of songs from the past. Hearing someone sing about things you may have only learned from a history book, makes it more real.

Endearing Collection of Montovani Film Music.......2006-09-28
This is a very good collection of Montovani film music. These recording are so soothing and pleasing to the ear. Most impressive are Montovani's versions of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is incredibly beautiful.
Movies and Mantovani Make Magnificent Musical Memories. .......2005-04-18
In this year in which fans celebrate Mantovani's 100th birthday, another excellent British compilation of some of the great maestro's original recordings has been released. The tracks on this CD come predominantly from Mantovani's 1957 bestselling LP, Film Encores, his 1959 Film Encores Volume 2, and his 1967 LP entitled "Mantovani/Hollywood." Up until now, the six tracks from the Hollywood LP have been the most difficult to find on CD in locations other than Japan, and it includes Monty's exciting arrangements of the themes from Zorba the Greek, the Magnficent Seven, Lawrence of Arabia, and You Only Live Twice. While these alone are worth the CD price, the remaining selections comprise the very best of Mantovani's film music library, including Unchained Melody (now better known as the theme from the movie "Ghost"), April Love, the theme from The Apartment, and Charlie Chaplin's Limelight. Attentive Mantovani fans will hear the inclusion of a less heard variation of the "golden hit" Moon River in which the maestro replaced the trumpet solo with the soprano sax in a later recording of this forever popular number. Sooner or later, and we hope sooner, everything recorded by the original orchestra led by the incomparable Mantovani will appear on CD. That is a just and fitting tribute to the most popular light orchestra leader in the 20th Century whose music will live on and will be heard to delight fans all over the world in the 21st.

WOW!!!.......2007-03-26
What has not been said about the Canadian Brass? The album is a wonderful blend of brass and voices. I especaily appreciate the non-traditional selections. It is a heart warmer.
The Best of The Best.......2004-12-15
Just be sure to buy this version (18 tracks) rather than what appears to be a very pared-down later issue (same cover, only about half a dozen tracks).
This is by far the best holiday album I have ever heard. I am a double-reed player and I must take issue with the complaints about intonation and musicianship by the one negative reviewer on this page. The song selection, mix of secular and religious, mix of serious and light, mix of familiar/less heard - Good as driving music, gift wrapping, or sing-along. This is the Holiday CD I listen to year round. If you are looking for ONE CD to buy for the season- for your collection or as a gift- This is it!
You can find better.......2004-11-24
Lousy musicianship here, frankly-- missed notes and poor intonation. I was hugely disappointed when I heard this album. Greatly recommend A Festival of Carols in Brass (Philadelphia Brass Ensemble) instead, which is pure joy for the listener.
Great Christmas Album.......2003-11-05
I've had this particular Canadian Brass album for so long that I have it on cassette! But it's become a classic family Christmas album for us. It's a great addition to any Christmas, especially as background music. It's very calming and just plain good. I can't imagine my Christmas without it.
Good Stuff!.......2000-12-12
This is yet another top-notch Canadian Brass Christmas album. These guys, once again, demonstrate why they are the best in the world at what they do. With the addition of the fine choral singing by the Iseler Singers, this is the complete Christmas CD, one you'll never get tired of year after year. Buy it!

Three Days Grace C.D........2007-06-01

Bob Belden's orchestral album Black Dahlia was a cinematic work in search of a film. The songs on Three Days of Rain were written for a recent movie of that name starring Peter Falk but have the feel of a classic jazz session. In both cases, there is plenty of atmosphere to absorb, with lyrical commentary from standout soloists including tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and pianist Marc Copland. Inspired by the stories of Chekhov, Three Days of Rain tells the stories of a half-dozen contemporary characters struggling to get by in Cleveland. The music ranges from rainy-day pieces with a bluesy Miles Davis feel (Scott Wendholt is featured on trumpet) to soulfully swinging hard bop tunes featuring Ronnie Jordan or Al Street on guitar. It's a reflection of Belden's skills as a composer that the music hangs together even though two different rhythm sections are employed (pianist Kevin Hays' alternates with Copland's) and that, though the songs will gain in meaning from a viewing of the film, the album stands alone perfectly well. Two unaccompanied performances are noteworthy: Lovano's modernistic clarinet musings on "Panic" and Jason Moran's elegant, expansive piano solo to close this aural production. --Lloyd Sachs
Customer Reviews:
I'm surprised I'm the first one to review this great disc.......2007-03-15
Certainly one of the three greatest movie soundtracks ever recorded (the other two being, in my humble opinion, The Year of Living Dangerously and The Mission), this music stands on its own as a noir-ish suite of great poignancy and beauty. I'm especially taken by the wistful playing of Joe Lovano, who's always had a way with ballads, but here ups the ante to the stratosphere, especially on the main theme, trading lines with Scott Wendholt who also shines brightly.
Featuring some of the finest players in jazz (the greatly underregarded Kevin Hayes on piano; Dwayne Burno, another neglected great, on bass; Joe Chambers, still another player deserving wider recognition, on drums; young legend Jason Moran on piano, and others), this disc contains various combinations of rhythm and lead players in solo, trio, quartet, quintet, and sextet settings. That music containing 11 different artists in widely varied contexts could all hang together so seamlessly attests to composer Belden's clarity of vision and genius in picking like-minded players as well as their ability to translate his ideas into gloriously heartfelt playing.
I'm entirely taken by the mood of triumph in the face of down-and-out circumstances that pervades this disc. Special kudos goes to Kevin Hayes for rendering passages of great precision and soulfulness--probably the finest music he's ever put on disc.
Very much worth acquiring.
