About the Artist
Few artists in the history of Canadian country music have worked harder or longer than Dick Damron. The pride of Bentley, Alberta, got his first guitar when he was five, and since then he's released almost thirty albums - from his first Rockabilly single Gonna Have A Party in 1958 to a brand new compilation of some of his best songs, released by BMG as the first in a series of albums paying tribute to members of the Hall of Honor. Dick Damron toured extensively on an international basis from the mid 1960s to the mid 1990s, winning honors as "Foreign Artist of the Year" in Europe and five Texas Country Music Awards. In Canada, five of his sixty-some singles were #1 hits beginning with Countrified in 1970, which was also a Top Ten smash for George Hamilton IV in the U.S. and Europe. Dick was Canada's top singer in 1975, 1977, 1978 and 1983 and Entertainer of the Year in 1984. The dozens of nominations, citations, awards and honors he's earned over four decades in Canada are a testament to his superb songs, his ability to entertain audiences, and the affection, respect and love the country music community has long felt for him.

Product Description
Career albums only come along once. After 27 album releases, sixty-some singles, and more than 40 years in the country music business with awards and acknowledgements coming for his entertainment quotient, as much as from record sales or airplay...Dick Damron stands tall, with a landmark release which really nails who he is, where he sleeps at night, and how he can marry a Top Forty career in country music with divergences like gospel albums (and guitar instrumental albums). The music on this new CD fits into the "new traditionalist" era of country music with glimpses forward to hardedge "new country" on cuts like Wild Horses and the incisive satiric number Ain't No Trains To Nashville. Thus the mixes sparkle with dobro, fiddle, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, piano and acoustic guitar. Most of these tracks were recorded and released in 1989 and were included on the BMG Canada album ‘THE LEGEND AND THE LEGACY'. Joe Bob Barnhill, who is the man Dick credits, with “nailing the commercially- acceptable Dick Damron sound”, produced all cuts. For sure, Joe Bob never called a session player who didn't meet the challenge of creating marvelous tracks, which stand the test of time. The digital re-mastering of some cuts by Hollis Flatt have brought out better some elements, like the piano solo in Silver Dollars, making this collection of formerly- vinyl releases truly a CD worth collecting.
