... fearlessly mixes in splashes of zydeco, latin, blues, cry-in-your-beer country, and even a little jam-band attitude.

Product Description
If there was no such thing as “Americana” or “alt./country” there would still be Mama Said. This Shelby, NC- based foursome simply enjoys writing and performing their music. Now with the release of their debut CD, “runnin' with scissors,” the quartet is developing new fans and followers around the Carolinas and the Southeast. From the opening strains of the pop-laden “Water Under the Bridge,” Mama Said takes you on a musical hayride through their wide ranging influences. The Mexicali tinged “Trailer Town” demonstrates that passion knows no borders. Then suddenly the sound is transformed in “Bayou Mud” wherein two local lovers discover their love for each other and all things Cajun. Later on, Mama crosses the levee and steps into the Creole tradition with the lively “Zydeco Ball.” Cultures collide in the semi- true tale of “Mavis,” the redneck who goes to Pamplona. (Did Segovia and Earl Scruggs ever share a stage?)

In between all of this is some good ol' rock and roll, “Blueridge Road,” the easy going anthems of “Live til' I Die,” and “The River and Me,” some honky tonk heartbreak in “I Forget You Everyday,” a taste of soul gone country with “Just Say When” plus an unlikely version of the old cowboy poem, “Hellbound Train.”

“ Passionate musicians. Dedicated performers. Extraordinary songwriters. Mama Said is the real thing! They are a band worth listening to ... and watching live. "

-Noel Manning II, WGWG-FM /The Webb Mama always said “Follow your heart.” Mama Said has taken that advice, taken that chance and off they go - “runnin' with scissors.”
