The Burbanks' driving interpretation of Don Williams' 1980 country ballad "I Believe in You" feels like a team of runaway horses at the hands of a skillful teamster, at times restraining, at times whipping his team into a frenzied gallop. "Take and Give" does not sound like any other song ever recorded, yet sticks in the brain, its musical hook repeating itself over and over again. The Burbanks' easy-going rendition of Conway Twitty's 1989 country-topper "Single Thing in Mind", the smooth-as-silk "Slow Hand" and "unplugged" rendition of Charlie Rich's obscure 1959 album cut "Rebound" are uncluttered, yet highly emotional masterpieces that delight the ears.

All 8 originals on "ready, FIRE, Aim!" are highly contagious, with hooks that leave listeners wanting to hear them over and over again. The memorable "Last Night I Fell in Love", "Love and Devotion" and "How Long Will It Take" scream "play me!" "Ooh I Love You Baby", "Forever Mine" and "True Love" feature hooks reminiscent of the all-time classics that have survived years of continuous airplay. Music you can enjoy listening to - tap your foot, nod your head and sing along kind of music. It's refresing to hear a band with musical tallent.

I first read about this CD in the Wall Street Journal of all places. Most of the other recommendations in that article were duds but this is a find. Straight forward pop rock melodies, inventive without trying to create a manufactured style, just good music. Singing, playing, lyrics and melodies are all well done with just a few songs missing the mark. Deducting one star because overall the music falls just short of being great. Unlike so many new groups, they avoid sounding like their music was engineered by focus groups but overall still sounds somewhat generic. Real potential to hit 5 stars next time.

    This album brings a much needed harder edge to swing style/rockabilly music. Swing tunes, slow tunes and surf tunes are explored in this work but the band is also not afraid to rock! These guys are definitely artists. It is refreshing to hear actual instruments played well on an alternative album. I can't think of one reason anyone would not be able to appreciate this cd.

    This cd touches from rockabilly to surf to punk rock to jazzy tex-mex, totally cool. I can't believe this is their first release. Can't wait til their next one.

    13 O'Clock is four very talented musicians who came together to make a truly incredible album. If you like Elvis, Buddy Holly, or Chuck Berry, you'll love this band. This CD is guaranteed to get you dancing. If you want the best good old rock 'n' roll, I highly recommend this CD!

      I hope these guys aren't from my hometown because they are so marginal, dull, uninspired, unoriginal, Eagles-meet-Huey Lewis hacks that they wouldn't do justice to the city of Burbank. Save your money. The 30 second samples were torture.You have been warned.
