Classic Country Christmas Charm.......2007-01-21
I purchased this for my Mom, she had heard the Tammy Wynette/George Jones track on the radio and Loved it. This is a great soundtrack to the December holiday season. Excellent songs for creating and remembering warm, Loving, happy Christmas moments.
My husband loves this one........2006-01-29
I got this cd for my husband he just loves the song by Joe Diffie about the reindeer. He really enjoys the weird songs that make fun of stuff. He really loves anything redneck.
Another great collection of Country Christmas songs.......2005-11-02
Another great country Christmas collection from Sony that covers a long period of time (1947's Here Comes Santa Claus by Gene Autry to Tammy Cochran's recent rendition of Merry Christmas Darling). All are great (with no Billy Gilman cuts to dampen the proceedings) and best of all, this collection is available from Amazon dealers at a very low price. Here is the lineup with artist's names:
1. Here Comes Santa Claus - Gene Autry
2. They Shinned Up Rudolph's Nose - Johnny Horton
3. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town - Dolly Parton
4. Leroy The Redneck Reindeer - Joe Diffie
5. Jingle Bell Rock - Sweethearts Of The Rodeo

Don't be fooled: This release does not collect the country chart's biggest-ever holiday hits. If that was the case, then Gene Autry ("Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer") and Dolly Parton ("Hard-Candy Christmas") would have been included. What we get instead, though, is a swell, 10-song sampler of post-war country, Yuletide division, with a special focus on 1949 when both Eddy Arnold and Ernest Tubb scored two Top Ten Xmas hits apiece. The lone 1960s entry, Buck Owens's amazed "Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy," is probably closest to contemporary country-rock tastes, while Tubb's quavering but sincere "Blue Christmas"--which amazingly charted three Decembers in a row--is still as sad a slice of holiday twang as has ever been put to wax. --David Cantwell
Customer Reviews:
They'll be singing.......2004-12-17
This CD features Christmas songs that made it onto Billboard's Country chart. There are some good songs here that you don't find on CD too often. The original version of "Blue Christmas" by Ernest Tubb is almost worth the price of the CD by itself. There are some other great songs by the likes of Tex Ritter, Eddy Arnold and Buck Owens. Then again, "Jingle Bell Rock", great as it is, has been on about a million CDs already and isn't really a country song. It's also shocking that the King of Country Christmas Music, Gene Autry, is not represented here at all. It's still a good CD at a low price and it's worth purchasing.
Some classic stuff here.......2001-11-30
A fab collection of some not-often-heard gems from the country music wayback machine. I docked the collection one star for the inclusion of the much over-comped "Jingle Bell Rock" and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", for several reasons: 1. Sure, they hit the "country" charts but they were much bigger "pop" hits, 2. Both are available on the Rhino "Billboard Pop Xmas Hits" series, "ISMKSC" on "1935-54" and "JBR" on "55-present" (as well as 20 billion other compilation CDs). It's redundant for folks who might want to buy all 3 of those discs. I'd rather they put on something by Dolly Parton, Alabama, you get the point.
That said, this is well worth acquiring. "Little Sandy Sleighfoot" is kind of hokey but grew on me, and the rest of the tracks are ace, especially "Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy" by Buck Owens.
com"YULE"ation Cleric : my two cents ,serendipitous ?.......2001-04-06
WOW,It's official the songs in this collection (as stated on the inner liner notes)were selected by the World's Number One chart researcher Joel Whitburn,of Menomonee Falls,WI. Local boy makes good,or at least documents the achievements of those artists that hit the charts well. Dose that make this disc a must have? NO NO NO not to my ear. I'm thankful todays country has evolved greatly from its' roots back in the 40's & 50's. But what makes this record kind'a intresting is the historical significance of such songs as,Blue Christmas,Jingle Bell Rock,White Christmas,The Little Drummer Boy ,I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, and Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy---and the artists credited with charting them first. How many times have we all heard a cover of these classics ? Way to many for me.Still the simplicity, senceriy, and sweetness of these seasonal selections is somtimes just serendipitous today.Tracks 4,7,and 10 are worthy of inclusion upon a merry modern mix.***buyit\savesome\sharelittle\sellitusedifyoucan***Post Script:What are The Buckaroos banging upon to make that cool sound before there was techno ?

Christmas "originals" can cause just as many shudders as Christmas classics, no matter how sincere the sentiment. But You Sleigh Me gives more chills than willies with its mix of holiday favorites and new "classics" by artists from the Atlantic Records roster. Donna Lewis's "Christmas Lights" shimmers like a star field on a clear December night; Juliana Hatfield's acoustic "Make It Home" is suitably beautiful and poignant--but talk about your "Blue Christmas"--while Billy Pilgrim's "The First Noel" benefits from his strong, warm vocals. Leave it to Jill Sobule to lighten things up with her straight-on read of the dysfunctional family gathering, "Merry Christmas from the Family." But the real holiday memories here come from Victoria Williams's tender "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and Tori Amos's "Little Drummer Boy." Amos's performance radiates all the breathy passion needed on those cold, dark winter nights. --Steve Gdula
Customer Reviews:
An alternative to Johnny Mathis........2005-10-11
I really like the idea of this album, however it could have had a few bigger names and better songs. Overall though it's a good listen. After the Rudolph opener, Collective Soul does a nice job, the Tori Amos cover is wonderful as expected, and the Juliana Hatfield song is a big plus too. Also worth a mention are the tracks from Victoria Williams and Everything But The Girl, both quite pleasing. The rest is good at the least, and the Jill Sobule song is a great addition. A nice disc for those wanting a cooler Christmas. I also suggest "The Edge Of Christmas" and "A Very Special Christmas 3".
To be continued.......2005-07-03
Admittedly, this is not a proper review, but I just wanted to convey a quick "thank you" to the person who felt her voice was important enough to meddle with the one recorded version the world has of Tori's Little Drummer Boy.
More from http://thedent.com/sleigh.html#littledrummerboy ...
The Little Drummer Boy was recorded live on November 12, 1992 at a club in Dundalk, Maryland called Steel Town. Tori asked the crowd for silence, saying that the song would be recorded for a children's charity benefit. Of course, there was a woman who had to shout "play it, Tori" in response to the "shall I play for you" line. The bouncers quickly took care of her but, in a way, she had ruined the mood -- at least for some of those in her immediate surroundings...
Everybody say "cheese!".......2004-12-08
This is a rather uneven Christmas album. The standout track is the great, funny "Merry Christmas From the Family" by Jill Sobule. There are some other good performances here, but nothing great. The lowlight is the seemingly endless 8 minute long jazz saxophone version of "White Christmas" by James Carter. This CD is almost worth getting just for the Jill Sobule song.
Best Christmas Album...Ever.......2003-11-20
This is my favorite Christmas album of all time and that includes "Alligator Stomp, Vol. 4 - Cajun Christmas". The whole CD crackles with wit, warmth and holiday tradition; at the same time it ruffles the hair of convention.
Most of the tunes are tasty, a generous mix of old chestnuts and new tunes. Everything but the Girl's "25TH December" is a slow and poignant beauty; Donna Lewis' "Christmas Lights" is a synchopated wonder, reminiscent of her now outdated "Always and Forever". The talented Tori Amos breathes new life into the bloated corpse of "The Little Drummer Boy".
If you're feeling a little wacky this Christmas, give it a try. If nothing else, you'll at least have a bright, shiny new coaster.
I'm glad someone's family is as dysfunctional as mine.......2001-12-28
"Merry Christmas from the Family" is hilarious! I think everyone has someone or something in their family that can identify with some part of this song. I happened to hear it on the radio and I had to have it. Everything on the CD is great, but this one really stands out.
