J. Geils Band - Classic Geils.......2007-05-12

Personally, I've always thought J. Geils was under rated. Because I tend to drone on, I'll keep this short. This 'Album' has all the diversity of a classic J.Geils cuts. Remember, some albums tell a story, a some don't. But they all tell about the artist in some way shape or form. This classic is no different. A must have for any fan of rock. (Yeah, I had it in vinyl, so what?) ;-)

The J. Geils Band recorded 15 albums (not counting compilations) over 28 years.

LOVE STINKS
Released some two years after the band's EMI debut, Sanctuary, the Love Stinks project would see the J. Geils Band going in an even more commercial oriented direction than its predecessor. Keyboard player/main songwriter, Seth Justman now assumed the main production duties. Justman set out to better the band's gold-plus-selling Sanctuary. And to some degree, he succeeded. Although not as consistent or diverse as Sanctuary, Love Stinks would feature two of the band's most recognizable FM songs ever -- the album's infectious title track "Love Stinks" and the catchy up tempo "Come Back".

Classic from the past!.......2007-02-06

Loved this when I was growing up. It does border on Disco on a couple of songs, but includes the classic love song "Love Stinks". A must have in the J Geils library.

Top of their form..........2006-02-27

I agree with the reviewer that said the bad boys from Boston entered the 80s in style with this album...yes, we all know what they were capable of with live classics like Full House and Blow Your Face Out...this is a band who had nothing to prove in 1980 and they were just having a great time doing what they were doing, and it shows. The fact that 26 years later, their version of the Strangeloves' song Night Time is being used in a TV ad says to me this was the definitive version, with Peter Wolf's confident strut all over it. The other-worldly comic bit No Anchovies Please is just a break in the action, and the boys step it up right afterward with the mighty drum-accented title cut...from the new-wavish opening track Just Can't Wait to the harmonica-soaked bluesy closer Till the Walls Come Tumblin' Down, this is classic Geils all the way. The reviewer who thinks it's the album that stinks just doesn't get it. The band knew they couldn't just do the same album over and over and get anywhere. This was one of their finest, and most fun!

The J. Geils Band Enter The 80s In Style.......2005-10-02

The J. Geils Band entered the 80s in style with the album LOVE STINKS, on which they welded their roots in the Memphis-Chicago-Muscle Shoals-St. Louis-New Orleans-Detroit-New York-Kansas City blues/R&B/soul/rock & roll axis to the experiments of the previous albums MONKEY ISLAND and SANCTUARY and streamlined the whole thing into a sleek new sound. The song "No Anchovies, Please" isn't really a song; it's a comedy routine about a woman who becomes the victim of three mad scientists. That said, the best real songs here are "Just Can't Wait", "Come Back", "Takin' You Down", and the title track. This is a great album by a great band.

this is the album kathi and i like to listen to when we are chillin out on the deck,we are both huge j. geils fans.although the only song to make it 'big'was love stinks,kathi and i like every song on this album.also please do't eat the anchovies always cracks us up.can'tgo wrong with this albumn.by the way kathi and i don't think love stink

This tiny, pop-up book depicts how love is not as perfect or as glamorous as maybe we'd like it to be. Using just a few words and lots of whimsical, three-dimensional artwork, Love Stinks parodies love's many challenges. A great little girlfriend gift.

I really enjoyed the movie even though I initially wasn't that interested in seeing. It was probably the title which turned me off. Anyway, it turned out to be very funny. There's a scene in the ladies room where Tyra Banks and Bridget Wilson talk about the new potential husband for Chelsea (Bridget)which is hysterical.

The soundtrack is a mixture of styles and sounds -most of it is fresh and interesting. A couple of the tracks don't seem to fit, but that's true of nearly every CD around these days.
