5 out of 5 stars Great but Still Wanted More.......2007-06-27

First, I do not like the cover. But beyond that, the CD is great fun to listen to. John Denver had so many hits, that this doesn't cover all of them by any means, but it is a great CD to take you back to a more peaceful time musically. It makes me want to bring out my guitar and play along.

5 out of 5 stars TRUELY a song's best friend!.......2007-05-28

what else can i say? at 36, and i grew up in a strictly religious household, so i missed him growing up, but i got spots going into public places & whatnot. i remember a vacation while young in the WV woods when one of his most popular songs was on the radio & i memorized it the first time i heard it and sung it to myself time and time again, while walking through the woods or horse back riding- just enjoying nature. he has a way of giving you nature and the beauty of it in a song. God gave us such as one as him so we could stop and remember the beauty of all that is around us all the time.

This must be the best John Denver of all, it has the lot

5 out of 5 stars All of John Denver's Greatest Hits.......2007-05-23

John Denver passed away in October, 1997 while piloting a small airplane. Before that, he left an indelible mark on the pop music industry. By combining harmonic vocals with a recognizable acoustic sound, John's music still remains popular with fans of all ages.

From the autobiographical "Rocky Mountain High" to the melodic and uplifting "Calypso", this collection contains many of John's most famous songs. Other selections include "Annie"; a song John wrote for his wife, "Take me Home, Country Roads", and "Thank God I'm a Country Boy".

I wasn't a big fan of John Denver before I bought this CD, but I really enjoy listening to his music now. This is the perfect disc for the casual fan, because all of his most popular hits are on it; there's no need to buy several other discs to get them.

I give this great collection my highest recommendation. If you're a major fan or just a casual fan, then this is the CD you'll want to own.

this is the song in my mind that was one of kris kristoffersons best the story he tells people can relate to no matter what decade or era.people always seem to forget what is important in life .i like to listen to this song when i get caught up in life.

5 out of 5 stars A performer central in folksong tradition.......2007-01-09

Kris Kristofferson is a central pillar in the american folksong tradition. In his deep, fulltoning voice he sings his meaningful texts in a way to creep into your heart. I find his performances ideal, whether I drive tru long nights, or I caress my woman in front of the fireplace. They are songs to be glad to listen to, even if the text may be earnest enough.

4 out of 5 stars Good compilation from a great songwriter.......2006-11-07

If you are a Kris Kristofferson fan, you will enjoy this collection of Kris singing his many hits, ost of which were covered by other singers.

4 out of 5 stars Purchased in preparation for attending a live concert.......2006-07-19

This CD was a terrific, comprehensive review of Kris's most famous songs. It turned out to be far better then the live concert I attended. Our aging performers may drive us to this option more and more.

4 out of 5 stars Ageless classics by a classic artist .......2006-06-04

If singer-songwriter-actor Kris Kristofferson has been underrated as a singer, he's been compensated as a master lyricist with words that resonate, and some of the tracks on this 18-disc CD serve up ample justification. In this compilation, though, Kristofferson sings his own songs that were a springboard to gold status for other singers. Among them: the Janis Joplin-ID'd but Kristofferson-penned "Me and Bobby McGee;" "Help Me Make It Through The Night," a million-seller for the late Sammi Smith; "For the Good Times," a comeback hit for Ray Price; and "Nobody Wins," a song of love that has died and its injured left with nothing but the challenge to move on (and never performed with such stirring feeling than by Lynn Anderson). Along with those, Kristofferson unleashes the song that garnered him his first public acknowledgement as a writer, "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," first performed (and probably never since topped) by the late Johnny Cash, and another of his own mega-hits, "Why Me." As a performer, Kristofferson may never have been afforded his appropriate due - and that's unfortunate. As a writer, though, there's little room to argue that he deservantly is revered as one of his industry's most gifted artists. And having his voice behind his powerful words makes this CD a worthy buy and listen, and it begs the question how its author can feel so much. Kristofferson, truly an amazing and powerfully moving force.

5 out of 5 stars A great intro to a legendary singer beyond category.......2004-02-27

Hank Williams especially in his earliest years as a recordign artist, was a swingin' cowboy singer, and this music essentially is western swing, complete with pedal steel guitar, and pleasant slighly twangy vocals. This music can fall inbetween the categories of western swing, and early rockabilly, with touches of jazz in teh solid rhythm sections. No matter what kind of music you love be it Hillbillie Boogie, Jazz, Swing, Western swing, Honky Tonk or whatever, this is a great intro to a great singer who is timeless and liek Billie Holiday is beyond category. Essential for fans of rockabilly, western swing, and Country music(particularly Patsy Cline). Another thing worth mentioning is Williams occasional yodels, when many think he was influenced by Jimmi Rogers(the one from the 30's), in truth he was VERY influenced by an even lesser known Ememtt Miller, who originall yrecorded Lovesick Blues and threw in yodels all over the place, you shoudl also pick up a Emmett Miller cd, but buy this one NOW!!!
