Craig Morgan was seen as just another also-ran with his eponymous first album in 2000, even as there was much about his debut that promised more. Then, when no one was looking, his second album, I Love It, yielded "Almost Home," which garnered a buzz in even the most jaded Nashville circles. Now comes CD number three. An album track, "That's What I Love About Sunday," a soulful melody wedded to a lyric about the joys of a lazy weekend--church, coupon clipping, loving--surprised a lot of folks by grabbing the No. 1 spot on the singles charts for four straight weeks, marking the first time an indie single had done so since the Kendalls' "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" in 1977. Chances are, several songs from this lively CD will follow on the charts, particularly "Blame Me," which finds Brad Paisley and John Conlee joining forces to take credit (hopefully tongue-in-cheek) for country's current popularity. Several tracks ("I'm Country," "Redneck Yacht," and "In My Neighborhood," which references a plastic coon dog as a hood ornament) work the populist theme to death. But Morgan, who wrote 8 out of the 12 cuts, also knows how to deliver a hurtin' ballad ("That's When I'll Believe That You're Gone") and a grateful love song ("I Got You"). Watch this ol' boy finally take his rightful place as a cornbread contender. --Alanna Nash

Best Country CD I've heard in a LONG Time.......2007-05-08
I'll admit it I'm a "rare" country music fan; I like some, dislike most as most have turned into wannabe rock stars ... well ... my sister knows this band and when he came to my town, I got to meet the band, hang out with them and meet Craig.
Then came the concert and all I can say is WOW ... this man is amazing. his voice is awesome, his music is fresh ... and refreshing. He is a man with a country core ... values and faith and I now can't get enough of his music.
Listen to it and I mean REALLY LISTEN to it and you, too will be hooked.
My kind of livin.......2007-02-24
Enjoy the music, and like especially one song on the cd.
I really enjoy the an underated Craig Morgan.......2006-08-20
Craig Morgan's choice of songs is quite good and diverse. He especially is not afraid to include some excellet songs of a spiritual nature.
Can't stop listening!.......2006-01-12
I found out Craig would be performing at a festival I attend every year, and decided to buy this CD in preparation. That was back in September of 2005, and this CD has rarely left my player since! I know all the words by heart and it doesn't matter if I've listened to "Redneck Yacht Club" a thousand times on the radio, it still sounds fresh.
"That's What I Love About Sunday" is a relaxing tune about Sundays, from church services to Sunday afternoon naps. "I'm Country" is my absolute favorite. The chorus is catchy and it is hard not to find yourself singing along to words like "White beans, collard greens, sweet tea, chicken and dumplins"! The serious tracks are well-written, and you can hear the emotion in Craig's voice. "Lotta Man (In that Little Boy)" tells the story of a young boy who seems to be more grown up than other kids his age. The funner songs, like "Redneck Yacht Club", will have you singing along!
A must-have for ANY country cd collection!!!.......2005-10-11
This new cd by Craig Morgan is one of the few new country albums I purchased this year, simply due to the fact that many albums that came out where just not that good. Craig Morgan really has a way that he sings that just makes you think, "Boy, can this guy sing or what?!" The album has that pure country sound that so many country albums seem to be lacking nowadays. There are tearjerkers, slow dance, and just some really fun songs wrapped up in this album. What follows are the song titles which I have rated 1-5, 5 being the best, but this is just one person's opinion, but I think you will find you agree with me after you hear these fabulous songs!!!

Given their impact on generations of country, country-rock, and bluegrass acts, it's amazing the Louvins haven't had a modern tribute before. Unlike tribute albums that stumble through inconsistent performances and ill-matched material, this one soars, the selections well matched to the paired artists. Joe Nichols and Rhonda Vincent capture "Cash on the Barrelhead's" sassy humor. Emmylou Harris--who spearheaded the Louvin revival--and Rodney Crowell are relaxed on the Louvin hit "My Baby's Gone." Merle Haggard and the album's producer Carl Jackson capture the anguish of "Must You Throw Dirt in My Face." Glen Campbell and Leslie Satcher wring maximum passion from "When I Stop Dreaming." Obscure gospel tunes receive equally stellar treatment. "Keep Your Eyes on Jesus" teams Pam Tillis with Johnny Cash (handling the recitation) and the Jordanaires. Marty Stuart and Del McCoury establish the Louvins' bluegrass ties on "Let Us Travel, Travel On." By seamlessly blending traditional and modern Jackson's created a magnificent tribute that doubles as a fine introduction to the Louvins' earthy, breathtaking majesty. --Rich Kienzle
Customer Reviews:
Not a bad cd.......2007-03-24
As tribute albums go, this one is pretty good. But...did you ever hear a Beatles tribute that was anywhere close to being as good as the Beatles? Same goes here. These are decent performances, but frankly I think they lack the alchemy that made the Louvins' vocal performances so amazing. I was happy to see a tribute to the Louvins because they sure did earn it. But why get this cd when you can get the real thing? And there are so many more good songs done by Charlie and Ira than are captured on this cd, that it would be a shame to stop here. Go get some of their own cds, no way you're gonna regret it.
A real sleeper.......2007-02-03
I discovered this cd by chance and what a find! The vocals (all duets), instrumentation and arrangements are pure and exceptional. In addition to outstanding performances by the recognizable stars I also heard a very talented Carl Jackson for the first time. Especially enjoyable are Emmy Lou Harris/Rodney Crowell, James Taylor/Alison Krause but every cut is great listening. Whether or not you've heard the Louvins' original recordings any true country music fan will appreciate these excellent performances of their timeless songs. A must addition to any traditional country music collection.
Great Performances of Louvin Bros songs.......2007-01-29
The CD features songs made famous by the Louvin Brothers, performed by some of today's greatest country-western singers. These songs have wonderful harmony and entertaining lyrics. If you like two-part harmony and old-fashoned country songs you'll love this CD.
Great Music.......2007-01-12
This CD is a wonderful collection of the Louvin Bros music. The artists have performed these songs with great feeling and I hear a certain pride in their renditions. I'd buy this one any day!!
GREAT covers of Louvin material!.......2006-08-12
I'll just pile on here and echo what everybody else is saying. This is one of the best CDs I've bought in a long time. The matching of singers with material is perfect. The harmony singing is imaginative and spot on. The instrumentation is hot when it needs to be and always appropriate. The differing voices make for a nice variety as you move through the songs. Charlie and Ira would surely be proud of what's been done with their music on this CD.
Now there needs to be a second volume that contains "River of Jordan", "The Christian Life", "You'll Be Rewarded Over There", and other great Louvin gospel numbers. Hopefully, Carl Jackson (the architect of this set) will put that one together soon. Looks like there are plenty of potential buyers out there.

'95 Was Theirs, But Where Are They In 2 Thousand? (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4 stars).......2007-03-13
If I had to give a "Where Are They Now" award, Group Home would probably receive it. Group Home's debut CD "Livin' Proof" was a rememerable CD back in late 1995. I first heard these guys on Gang Starr's "Hard To Earn" LP. What grabbed my attention to get this LP was that everybody said that this was some of DJ Premier's best production. Heck, it's a blessing to have a couple of tracks produced by Primer, let alone an entire album. I have to say this is the best production I heard comming from the East Coast in a good minute. If you heard the beats to "Serious Rap Sh..." and "Up Against The Wall" (and thats just some of the songs here with awesome production). It seemed like Premo just held back his production from Gang Starr and and Jeru, and gave them to Group Home. A lot of people wondered if he gave those same beats to artists like Nas or Jeru The Damaja what would the results would be. Hell, if he gave the beats to the wackest rapper out right now, it would almost sound like a second comming of Illmatic or such. They're THAT good.
As for Group Home (Melachi the Nutcracker & Lil' Dap), they don't do a bad job holding down the rhymes. In fact that is the only inferior in this album. I've heard better rhymes, but I've also heard way worse. Especially with all the music comming out today, they make this duo sound like lyrical masters. "Suspended In Time" would be a good song from a lyrical standpoint. Another excellent song is "2 Thousand" (hence my review title) with some good rhymes. Guru and Big Shug comes in for the song "Serious Rap Sh..", as well as Jack The Ripper and Smiley The Ghetto Child rhyme on the song "The Realness". Jeru The Damaja talks at the end of one of the tracks as well.
So this album is excellent for fans of Gang Starr and Primo's production. This album has some of the best beats that he has made in his career. Although Lil' Dap and Melachi's rhyme skills aren't that great, they don't make this CD a waste. If possible, search for the instrumentals for this LP, because you'll be glad that you did. But this album is also a keeper. They followed up with another album in 1999, that I will check out as well.

1995 pure premo dope.......2007-01-27
A dope disc of smooth beats by DJ Premiere and hard rhymes by lil dap and the nutcracker. It takes you back to better times. The lyrics are not graduate level but overall it hits the mark. If you enjoy 90's gritty hip hop, get it fast before it goes out of print.
Mind-blowing beats, borderline awful lyrics.......2007-01-24
In the early to mid-90's, DJ Premier could do no wrong. Building on his legendary production work on Gang Starr's "Daily Operation" (1992) and "Hard to Earn" (1994), Jeru's classic "The Sun Rises In the East" (1994), and Nas' seminal "Illmatic" (1994), he released perhaps his last classic effort with Group Home's "Livin' Proof". Lil' Dap and Melachi the Nutcracker were the last of the Gang Starr Foundation to release a record (Big Shug was also member, but he seemed to get lost in the shuffle), and it seems that Primo kept some of his best beats for last. Songs like "Supastar", "Tha Realness", "Suspended In Time", and "Livin' Proof" prove that nobody could touch him in the arena of gritty NYC boom-bap.
Unfortunately, the vocals can't match the production. Dap's lyrics are mediocre but tolerable, mainly thanks to his unique voice. Melachi's verses are, for the most part, terrible. But this album gets over on beats alone, and none of the lyrics are bad enough to make songs unlistenable. If you're a DJ Premier fan, you must own this. If you're an MC, find the album's instrumental, throw it on your Tech 12's and start freestyling. Enjoy one of the last great albums released before Puff Daddy changed NYC production forever with Notorious B.I.G.'s "Big Poppa" and the remix of "One More Chance".
real underground Hip Hop.......2006-09-28
This is one of the nmost underground hh crew !!! This is dope and classic!
A focused masterpiece.......2006-08-24
Group Home's 1995 debut album "Livin' Proof" is a gorgeous and beautiful hip hop album that is certainly very underappreciated. This album teams the MC duo Lil' Dap and Melachi the Nutcracker, two talented and unknown teenage rappers from New York, with the legendary DJ Premier on the mixing boards, arguably the greatest hip hop producer of all time. The result is a truly special and unique masterpiece. The majority of the enjoyment in "Livin' Proof" comes from the production, which is the most diverse and my favorite of his entire career. His sound is very focused, and the theme of "low budget environment" is played very well. Premo's beats sound less polished than on a Gang Starr record, and instead of his usual horns and instrumentals, he often uses heavy, creative sampling, and a simple drumkit and keyboard to make simple, beautiful beats. His music has a very nostalgic feel to it, and this production is experimental without sounding at all futuristic. His music really is capable of evoking a lot of feelings and emotions. Lyrically I am impressed with Dap and Melachi, and I really can't begin to comprehend the three and four star ratings bashing these two rappers. I guess in 1995 people were only used to hearing Guru and Jeru the Damaja over Premier beats, and granted Dap and Melachi are not quite on their level, but they really do a phenomenal job on the mic. Despite their young age, they have a very worldly intelligence, and they speak of life in an often depressed, downcast tone that comes from living in such abject poverty. Despite their tough situations, though, they continue to look forward. "Livin' Proof" is an amazing rap album that is really unlike any other I've heard, and I recommend it highly to all types of music listeners.
The album begins with a 40-second intro that displays why DJ Premier is one of the top producers of all time. With just a piano and drumset, he makes one of the coolest little beats I've ever heard, and it just eases you into the album so well. "Inna City Life" introduces Dap and Melachi, both dropping some raw philosophy gained from years in the ghetto, and Premo's simple, staticky beat is hard and gritty. The beat to "Livin' Proof" is raw but attractive, simple and ear-catching, and Melachi and Dap establish themselves as new young truth-kicking rappers. The chorus samples Wu-Tang and Nas in Premo's signature two-bar fashion. "Serious Rap S..." has an electronic, ultra-funky beat that will make your head bob instantly, the raps show great flow. A highlight of the disc is "Suspended in Time," a very nostalgically and thoughtfully produced track with verses to match. "Sacrifice" has cool guitars on the production, and harder raps than usual. "Up Against tha Wall (Low Budget Mix)" has bouncy vibes and my favorite lyrics on the album, expressing the depressed and pessimistic view of inner city life. "4 Give My Sins" has some muted horns and a simple beat, with introspective lyrics. Premo steals the show on "Baby Pa," making not one but two completely dope beats on this track. I love "2 Thousand," with its winding deep piano and great chorus ("95 is yours, 2000 is mine, and we walkin' through the ghetto and the feeling is fine..."). It's followed by "Supa Star," another classic single. My favorite song on the whole album is "Up Against tha Wall (Getaway Car Mix)." It's another mix to the song earlier on the album, but Premo's slower, simple piano lined-beat is absolutely perfect, and he engineers a nice chorus for this mix. The album ends with the tough song "Tha Realness."
"Livin' Proof" is an album so exceptional and musical that I don't think you'd have to be a rap fan to enjoy it. In my mind, it showed the world that the legendary Premier didn't need Guru or Jeru to make an awesome record, and I think this is maybe his greatest musical accomplishment. It is really unlike a Gang Starr album in every way, but Gang Starr fans will probably enjoy it immeasurably as well. I could not praise or recommend "Livin' Proof" any higher, this is really a one-of-a-kind type of album.

Trent Willmon's sophomore bolt from the chutes not only bears out the promise of his 2004 debut, but proves him to be a more solid artist than some folks might have thought. The West Texas native cowrote seven of the eleven songs, which draw on his own life as a creek-bank philosopher, real-life cowboy, and father. For that reason, perhaps, Willmon never sounds forced or inauthentic in romancing about Shiner Bock, fishing gear, and an iced down Iglou cooler, or building a Chris LeDoux-like song around the easy camaraderie of a roping pen. He comes across as a man who solidly knows who and what he is, even if it's a jilted lover hoping to revive a dead-end romance ("On Again Tonight"). As a stylist, the traditionalist seldom veers from form, his voice as durable yet as plain as a pair of blue Wranglers. Yet try as he might, he's not really the right singer for his own "Louisiana Rain," a scorchingly passionate R&B song of loneliness and desire. But elsewhere, particularly on the funny cheating song "Surprise," Willmon proves a fine guide to his material, taking great pleasure in life's guilty--and simple--pleasures. --Alanna Nash

Rich.......2007-02-18
This CD has a rich texture; amazing vocals, humor, & blues. - Great guitar rifts. I'm not a big country & western fan, but I make an exception for this artist.
My current favorite CD.......2006-10-08
I loved this CD! I don't think there's a bad song on it, although I especially like On Again Tonight, Love Shouldn't Have to Be So Hard, and Louisiana Rain, which is a *terrific* blues song!. Close on the heels of those three, Sometimes I Miss Ya, The Ropin' Pen, Good Horses to Ride (a great story song, a little reminiscent of some Garth songs). The rest of the songs are close behind - the uptempo Good One Comin' On, and a funny Surprise are good country rockers. This is the CD most likely to be found in my CD player now@
Good for some things.......2006-07-27
The album is good, not great, and definitely not insightful. Trent's voice is kind of all over the place, at times sounding too much like Billy Ray Cyrus and not enough like himself - particularly on ballads which he covered so well his first time out. The first few songs on this album are solid thoughtless rockers that are largely indistinguishable from each other. Mostly the songs on this album are strangely grouped, and not spread out well enough. He's a good enough songwriter, and he does have a sense of humor. What I'm saying here is that while I do enjoy Trent's music, and my voice even sounds a lot like his, this album is not one I would really sit back and listen to to reflect on. For that I'd take Gary Allan's "Tough All Over" or Julie Roberts' "Men and Mascara", or even Brooks & Dunn's "Hillbilly Deluxe". This CD is one that I would pop in at a party, or possibly in the car where I want something upbeat in the background. There aren't very many songs here worth talking about, unfortunately. The album opens good enough, and it closes well with a strong performance on "Louisiana Rain", but it's all pretty standard mainstream-style country. So this album is good for a dance party and it's definitely something you could pull a lot of safe radio singles out of - something to sell and appeal to the mainstream crowd - but this year has seen a league of much better country albums than this one, and Willmon and all other artists have to realize that and step up to the plate with a more solid effort. 3 stars is a strong rating for this disc.
England think this guy is great!.......2006-06-26
I visited the states last year and was lucky enough to spend an evening at the Grand Old Opry. Trent Willmon was on the bill. I liked his singing so much I bought his debut album from the Opry shop and brought it home to the U.K. It has been played constantly since. I sent to Amazon.com for his latest album because it was not available in England. I received it within 1 week and once again it is been played all the time. I love the great lyrics and country feel to his music and can't wait for the next one.
IT'S NOT VERY GOOD...IT KIND OF SUCKS.......2006-06-19
ok i've listened to this album quite a few times and still have yet to find a strong point. i didn't get his first album so i'm not comparing like some reviewers may. "on again tonight" is the reason i bought this album and it's one of the only songs i like on it. some people who really like this cd will say "don't listen to him". or something like that but i'm right. a few of these songs aren't very well written and just trail off. as far as his voice goes, even if he has range, his voice isn't very good. i mean i like his voice on "beer man" and "on again to night" but some of these songs his voice makes sound worse. although some songs are ok none are exactly good. if you don't have the new toby keith, little big town, gary allan, jason aldean, jamey johnson, or brad paisley album(to name a few) get one of those cause ALL of them are much better than this.
don't waste your money on it...i did

Having long ago earned his rock wars stripes as working class foil and foiled Van Halen superstar, Sammy Hagar finally understands who's laughing best. A half-dozen albums into a post-VH second solo career where Hagar has sometimes seemed more like Dorian Grey than Red Rocker Redux, the veteran rocker kicks off his shoes again--along with some longstanding presumptions. Hagar succeeds here by nimbly channeling the Ghost of Jimmy Buffet Whenever--even if the veteran rocker's Gulf of California acoustic blues is about as authentic as Robert Johnson's Delta surfing legend. The opening "Sam I Am" sets the tone, a slice of slide-guitar autobio-blues that borrows from the folks who stole it from the people who nicked it from the southern blues masters; Sammy's "Ice Cream Man," if you can forgive him (and after his greasy cover of Dylan's "Rainy Day Women" you might not). Hagar does a subtler job suggesting the spirit of Brian Wilson via the harmonies of the loping "Living On a Coastline," channels a little faux Tennessee twang into "Halfway to Memphis" before a thoroughly Hagar-ized cover of the Pointers "I'll Take You There" and the surprisingly tender lullaby "Some Day" close the album out on a high note. With tracks like "I Love This Bar" and "One Sip," it's a party-hearty record whose crafty appeal seems to vary in direct proportion to one's number of empty cerveza bottles. This is music with a purpose: to make sunburned drunks dance badly. Sober pale people take heed. -- Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Get into the Cabo Wabo spirit with a brand new solo album of high-powered studio material from legendary hard rock frontman and guitarist extraordinaire Sammy Hagar!
Customer Reviews:
I am glad I didn't buy it ! .......2007-05-29
After listening to the songs on the album, and then hearing a song from "The Pointer Sisters" -- Let me take you there -- I decided not to buy it. I could not listen to Sammy sing the song, the same one I heard the Pointer Sisters sing in Vegas, years ago. Man, what happen to the old Sammy?
Enjoy RED Heads!.......2007-05-15
You have to be a TRUE RED Head to totally appreciate what Sam has put together on this release. I love the addition of the Country version of Half Way to Memphis, it works. Rock On Sammy and I'll see you in Cabo!
I had to buy it to believe it...........2007-04-03
...but it's true. Sammy's gone country. There are 2 MAYBE 3 tracks on this whole album that are any good. My taste in music is very broad with one exception - country. If I had to name one rock icon of mine, it would be Sammy and...Sammy...you really let me down with this album. It pains me to say so, but I can't recommend this album to the classic Hagar rock fan.
There's a fine line between writing about your life experiences and just being a shill.......2007-02-15
The Good
I want to get this out of the way before we get started; I love Sammy Hagar's music and I love Cabo Wabo Tequila. With that being said, on to the review. The Red Rocker toots his own horn on the acoustic/country opener "Sam I Am." The track has an incredible bounce to it, as Hagar drops references to his past and present life. "The Way We Live" starts off with a great rock riff, but breaks down to a heavy vocal track. Hagar's new found affection for country music is expressed again on the touching ballad "Halfway to Memphis." Sammy's always had a way with the ballad, but come to think of it, his heavy stuff was kind of pumped up ballads. Anyway, it's another great emotional acoustic ditty with "Sailin'."
The Bad
Tough to be the hard rock Jimmy Buffett when your new album has you sounding almost exactly like Buffet. There's a lot more country influence to Sammy's sound. In fact, two of the songs were co-written by country music stars; "I Love This Bar" (Toby Keith) and "One Sip" (Kenny Chesney). And if you didn't know that Hagar lives in Mexico, owns two bars, a tequila company, and lives to tell you all about them; you certainly will after listening to this album. Livin' It Up is basically an advertisement for all things Sammy.
It would be fine if it was subtle, but it's too in your face. For example; "Living on a Coastline" (about Mexico), "Mexico" (um, Mexico again), "The Way We Live" (Cabo Wabo Cantina), "I Love This Bar" (um, Cantina again), "One Sip" (Cabo Wabo Tequila disguised as a love song), and "I'll Take You There" (it's a cover, and Hagar found a way to work his cantina and a former Van Halen song [Cabo Wabo] into the lyrics).
The Verdict
Livin' It Up is a decent lounging album, but its more so catered to Hagar's bars (or any Mexican themed bar). It's not so great for fans of Sammy's hard rock past or rock music fans in general. There's a fine line between writing about your life experiences and just being a shill for your lifestyle. Sammy Hagar has crossed the line into shillsville. (Guess I blew my chance at some free tequila?)
sammy is still staying on top.......2007-01-27
sammy hagar, one great shouter, with a holiday like album, pure rock with fun and power.

Mike McDonald Doobies.......2007-05-16
While this piece did not rate the critical acclaim that was accorded Minute By Minute, in many ways it is a better expression of The Doobie Brothers with McDonald as the front man for the band. His soulfull vocals coupled with Snake Baxter's guitar licks and the dual drummers layering the back beat make this an intriguing listen throughout. Besides, how many knew this is where Carly Simon got her hit "You Belong To Me" from?
GREAT ALBUM, BUT YOU'RE BUYING THE WRONG VERSION!.......2006-07-17
The Japanese imports of the Doobie catalog are remastered.
Warner Brothers here in the U.S. is still selling the old LP-EQ'd, terrible-sounding masters they released on CD in 1990.
If you love these albums, get a set of the Japanese editions. They cost more, but they're worth it.
Here is the link to the Japanese remaster of Livin' on the Fault Line.
Soulful Gem.......2006-06-24
A personal favorite of mine. Very tight, very smooth and very soulful. This album really brings out the best in McDonald's 'blue-eyed soul.' Great vocals and very tight production with beautiful guitar riffs, and subtle horns. You Belong To Me, You're Made That Way and Nothin' But A Heartache stand out and they're the type of songs that you need to listen to a few times to pick up the raw emotions, desperate lyrics and beautiful melodies. Top notch production and except for Larry the Logger Two Step, each song is solid. Some people may think this a bit too slick of an album, but it's always had a way of getting to me. An essential.
Michael McDonald showcased.......2006-03-05
This is not my favorite Doobies album but it is still very good and is another example of how versatile the group really was in their '70s heyday. It is much more laid back than any of the other albums they did with it's R&B, jazz and softer rock riffs. Michael McDonald shines. Highlights include 'Echoes of Love', 'Little Darling (I Need You)' and 'You Belong To Me'.
WOW.......2006-01-30
This is a FANTASTIC cd. A must have for anyone that is a true Doobie Brothers fan. I recommend it highly.

So much fun!.......2007-06-13
This is still such a classic and so much fun!
BYE BYE BIRDIE.......2007-03-03
I always enjoyed the film version of "Birdie" as well as the soundtrack and now this reissue includes "The Sultans Ballet" where Janet Leigh bites off more than she can chew when she invites a group of Sultans(Shriners) to dance. There are a couple of minor inclusions including "We Love You Conrad" and the rehearsal of "One Last Kiss" My only question is why didnt they use the complete version of "A Lot of Livin To Do" Even with the additional tracks the CD clocks in at 46 minutes so space wasn't a problem. It's quite understandable why the Russian Ballet was not included since it would be out of place on an otherwise perky and bright score.
While "Bye Bye Birdie" may not be one of the best scores it is zesty and cheerful to listen to on a gloomy day and as one of the numbers suggests it helps you to "Put On A Happy Face"
Bye Bye Birdie soundtrack.......2006-07-01
The product itself is excellent, but: 1) it took about three weeks to arrive; and 2) we didn't realize the film cut out and added so music. What we needed was a soundtrack for the stage production.
Love the movie...but the soundtrack?.......2006-05-04
I am a huge fan of the movie and the soundtrack is also amazing...the only thing I'm uspet about is that "One Last Kiss" on the cd is TOTALLY different!
Bye Bye Birdie was a good Buy Buy.......2005-08-02
Solid cast recording brings back the light-hearted msuicals of the 50s and 60s. Used as the primer for an upcoming stage version of the show, we listened frequently, and haven't tired yet.

A listening delight for fans.......2006-04-27
Well, just play me some "Mountain Music." It's been 25 years since Alabama signed its first record deal with RCA, and in celebration RCA/Legacy has released the three-disc box set Alabama: Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin': The 25th Anniversary Collection, covering the Alabama phenomenon.
Unlike 2005's The Essential Alabama set, this collection cherry picks songs from across the years. Plenty of hits are to be had as well as eight previously unreleased tracks. The set comes with a detailed 52-page book with photos, band timeline, track annotations and an essay by Robert Oermann. This set tells about the band's legacy and gives you an understanding of why RIAA named them the "Country Band of the Century."
From the get go, disc 1 captures you with "My Home's In Alabama (Live)," "Forty Hour Week (For A Livin')," an anthem for millions of people, and a seven-plus minute medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine/Suppertime/Teach Your Children/Don't It Make You Want To Go Home." This is followed by "Mountain Music," which always gets my foot tapping.
Disc 2 starts out with "Feels So Right," a song that millions (me included) slow danced to many times in the '80s. A song that surprised me was Alabama's version of "God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You," with 'N Sync doing the harmony vocals. Though 'N Sync made the song famous, Alabama added real feeling to it. Granted, they're different music genres, but it's the quintessential Alabama that has been keeping it "real" all these years while America's popular music tastes have varied widely from the artificial sounding '80s, the grunge '90s and whatever it's called today.
Disc 3 just keeps the good music rolling and finishes off with an interesting trio of songs, the story-telling "Ripperly O'Tucke (Demo)," the name dropping "Hats Off" and ending appropriately with "The Fans."
51 songs including almost two dozen number one songs, over half a dozen live/alternate versions, and eight previously unreleased tracks, Livin' Lovin' Rockin' Rollin' is worthy of anyone's music collection.
"We hope you remember, we are just the boys in the band. And what keeps the fires a'burnin,' is always, you the fans." Many fans remember fondly all right. Alas, the band's retirement from the road won't keep fans from looking forward to more recordings.
Must Have.......2006-03-20
This Anniversary album is a must have for anyone who appreciates what country music is all about. The group's timeline and explanation of how each song on the album came to be is great. The pictures provided are awesome and help explain their roots in Ft. Payne, AL and what the "Boys" have accomplished. The mix of songs is great and a few that I'd never heard before. If you don't have it, get it.
Derek Kidd
A rich, career spanning box set.......2006-02-24
In celebration of 25 years since their signing to RCA, the newly formed RCA/Legacy has issued the group's first triple-disc set. In contrast to 2005's two-disc "Essential" set, this collection is more of a full band biography than a straightforward recitation of their chart hits. There are hits to be heard (including nearly two-dozen #1s, seventeen in their original studio incarnation, and a half-dozen in live or alternate versions), but there's also a good helping of cherry-picked album tracks, and eight previously unreleased sides. Together with the richly detailed 52-page book (which includes a lengthy essay by Robert Oermann, track annotations, a band timeline and a generous helping of rare photos), this is a lot more than a triple-CD set, it's a package that tells the band's entire story, including their chronology, live performances, and, as mentioned, a good helping of their incredible string of hits.
Over the course of their 22 years with RCA, Alabama defined what it was to be a successful country music band. In an industry dominated by star singers and their backing players, Alabama looked to both the '70s Southern rock experience (Allmans, et al.) and the twangy style of Nashville to forge a new country identity. Their electric guitars and drums are topped with pure country harmonies, and their songs (both originals and those picked up from others' pens) were down-home. While the rock world was busy with the purposely artificial sounds of new wave throughout the '80s, Alabama kept the guitars and drums burning, particularly in their live performances, and turned out touching ballads with equal ease. Their '90s hits like "I'm in a Hurry (and Don't Know Why)" are prime examples of how modern country could take in pop influences without becoming crossover mush, and latter-day top-20s like "The Cheap Seats" and "Born Country" are filled with warmth.
Those looking to understand Alabama's chart dominance may be better served by last year's two-disc set, but anyone who wants to learn (or relive) the band's whole story would be well-served by this new set. Longtime fans will enjoy the opportunity to recount select album tracks, listen to several well-known hits in live versions (and in the case of "Face to Face," an alternate studio take), and hear unreleased items that include the one-off 1982 live medley of "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine / Suppertime / Teach Your Children / Don't It Make You Want to Go Home" and the 1973 Randy Owen acoustic demo of "Ripperly O'Tucke." Those who first heard these songs in their original release may find the lack of chronological ordering to be disconcerting, but overall the programming flows smoothly.
This isn't the all-encompassing Alabama box set that will satiate everyone's needs - there are far too many hits missing, or replaced by live versions to be definitive. But as a retelling of the rise and sustained artistry of country music's most successful band - the band that defined success as a country music group - it's a winner. George in relaxed mood.......2005-05-17
This is in many ways a typical George Strait album of the eighties but it finds George in a particularly relaxed mood - almost as if he's trying to tempt a few Don Williams fans to buy the album.
The album yielded two number one country hits (Love without end amen, I've come to expect it from you), both original songs, and a country top five hit (Drinking Champagne), which was a cover of a song originally recorded by Cal Smith. George recorded two songs (Someone had to teach you, She loves me she don't love you) with his road band. The other tracks including the hits were recorded with studio musicians - however, the album flows seamlessly and if you didn't read the credits (or this review) you probably wouldn't realize that different musicians were used. There are plenty of other wonderful songs here including Lonesome rodeo cowboy, We're supposed to do that now and then, When you're a man on your own and Stranger in my arms.
This is a very enjoyable George Strait album. It probably isn't the place to begin a George Strait collection (unless you're also a Don Williams fan) but it definitely desevves a place in such a collection.
Real country style album.......2001-09-12
Livin it up is a good album by George Strait for the most part. I really think though that the singles are the best songs of the cd and they were wisely chosen. All 3 singles stayed at #1 on the country billboard charts back then for then 5 weeks each. These were some of his biggest singles ever. The other 7 songs are good but are very dry though and alot of the nonsingles are missing emotion. But livin it up is a great record by george.
Out of 26 albums, this is my favorite.......2000-05-30
What can I say? After 10 years in release and 25 other albums, this is still my favorite. When six out of ten songs rate as instant classic, including four non-singles, you know it's a premier collection. Love Without End, Amen nicely summarizes every father's feelings, both in this world and the next. Extra points for using the word "shiner" in a song. A driving beat and reproachful lyrics that aren't too reproachful put I've Come to Expect It over the top. Satisfaction that occurs when a person's dumper becomes a dumpee themselves is conveyed nicely in Someone Had to Teach You, and We're Supposed To Do That recognizes the fact that love isn't always 24 hours of perfection. The other two favorites, Lonesome Rodeo Cowboy and She Loves Me do great with their respective tempos.
Drinking Champagne is perhaps a tad too lethargic for the emotion it wishes to carry, and its message is nearly a sequel to the situation in When You're a Man On Your Own.
An almost-perfect balance of slow and fast tunes is attained, and feeling and attitude are utilized almost perfectly on every song. The bar is raised even higher than usual.
Classic Record.......2000-01-12
This is the first George Strait record I got. I'll never forget when I got it, I listened to it alot, more then alot. Great songs on this record of course classics like Someone Had to Teach You, I've Come To Expect to From You, Lonesome Rodeo Cowboy, Drinking Champane, She's Got Me, Love Without End Amen, and Stranger In My Arms make you want to sing, stomp your feet, and let out the Country feeling HEEHAW...Classic George a MUST GET
A strange mix, but a great album.......1999-12-25
Most Strait albums are so well formulated, and predictable. He knows what works, what the fans want and delivers! This album departs a little from the norm, as did 'Beyond the Blue Neon'. Some of the traditional songs are very melancholy, while the others remind me of what Sinatra would sound like if he made a country recording. This rift in styles makes a strange mix for the album, but it is still good. I like this ' Frank Sinatra side' of George, and he shows his Sinatra influence with sincerity, while still being country thru and through.

Solo album from the former Canned Heat guitarist is full of what Walter Trout does best--grungy, gritty guitar riffage set to killer grooves. That pretty much describes the best stuff here, including the opening title track, the rolling "Let Me Know," the funky "Say What You Mean," and the closer "Prisoner of a Dream," which adds horns and organ to the mix. Trout's also played with British blues elder John Mayall, and it shows in his solo work--he's got that blues-rock mix that is so typical of British blues, and so appealing when done well, as it is here. He's not quite as good at ballads; "Sweet Butterfly" wanders, and "Fool for Love" doesn't have as strong a base as the more uptempo material. On the other hand, "Through the Eyes of Love" shows that Trout can play guitar clean as well as gritty, and "Nothin' but the Blues" is solid from beginning to end. A strong entry overall, and perfect summer listening. --Genevieve Williams

It don't get no better!.......2004-10-11
I remember when that strat looked new!!! Small venues in LA with Canned Heat... absolutely awesome! And this man has only gotten better. Nobody works harder at entertaining a crowd with what they came for, hard driving blues played as cleanly as I have ever heard. Do yourself a favor, buy the CD, sit back, close your eyes and feel what Walter can do!
His second Best studio album!.......2001-12-18
This guy is unbelievable on guitar! you only get a fraction of what he can do on his studio albums, Live He will blow your mind!
although I think "Live Trout" shows more of how capable a guitar player he is, this is definitely a great album! I think "go the distance" is just a little bit better than this one but dont get me wrong this is a must have as well!
the title track has the coolest and most fluid intro, but the whole album rocks!
if you like the trout's whole rock/blues thing, check out Howard "Guitar" Luedtke and BLUE MAX He has kind of the same grungy rock blues thing going on, and just as much energy!
His best album (hard to believe he could get any better).......2001-01-05
Critics have said that Walter Trout plays too many notes. True, there's a lot going on in his solos, with notes coming at you faster than you could imagine, but they do have feeling, and are clear. Almost nobody out there can play as fast as Walter, and none can play at that speed as cleanly. The rest of the band, although good, is clearly designed around him. Anytime you listen to a Walter Trout album, you are in the presence of true greatness, so allow yourself to be pulled in. This is not background music.
If you buy this album, you will realize that I'm not over-stating his skill. There's a reason why he's quickly gaining in popularity in the States, and is a show-stopper at blues festivals. He and his band play long sets and with great intensity. God help the band that has to follow him.
There's one sure way to decide ahead of time if you'll like this album. Do you like a harder type of blues-rock? If yes, ANY Walter Trout CD will be a great purchase. If not, his stuff may be a little too much to digest. Not for the easy-listening or Britney Spears crowd.
I saw him play live in Cleveland recently, and it's even better that the studio recordings. Trust me, you have never seen someone work an electric guitar the way he does. It's a lot like watching Arnold, in the movie Predator, mowing down half the forest with an M-60.
I practice all the time, but I'll be 150 years old before I can do the same things with my Strat.
Stuck in a rut........2000-12-26
My first purchase of a Trout CD. If not for one major annoyance, I would have given this at least four stars. The problem? This guys solos are stuck in a rut. Each song starts off solid with a bang, but when the solo comes and the hammer-ons/pull-offs are piled on top of another, it ultimately becomes unlistenable. Eventually, you begin to realize that all the solos sound the same and take their toll on the overall project. It's a shame, because overall the group has a good sound and Trout has a fine Strat tone. This CD had potential. Unfortunately, Trout hasn't quite figured out that sometimes less is better.
