Jelly Roll Johnson Finally Steps Into The spotlight.......2002-10-30
Kirk "Jelly Roll" Johnson has spent almost 30 years as a back-up and studio musician, backing the likes of Reba McEntire, The Judds, Randy Travis, Trisha Yearwood and others. One of Nashville's best-kept secrets, Johnson takes this oppurtunity to step out of the shadows and into the spotlight to show us what he can do.
Johnson is a Blues fan from the git-go and this CD features a whole bunch of really great acoustic Blues. He backs himself with many of Nashville's best studio musicians and they really make Johnson sound incredible. He never hogs the spotlight, but flows in and out like a pro. The songs, mostly written by his back-up musicians, are top-notch and arranged beautifully.
If you're an acoustic Blues fan, you will be enthralled. If you're a harmonica player, you should definitely have a copy of this CD to pick up some new licks and a look into how a master harmonica player blends himself into a musical group.

Best Harminica Player in the Business.......2005-03-10
This album of 11 tunes, features some of the best songwriters in the business singing and playing songs they wrote, with Johnson featured on the harmonica. Featured are Tony Arata (wrote Garth's The Dance), Malcom Holcombe, Fred Knobloch (George Strait's Meanwhile), Suzy Ragsdale, and Verlon Thompson (wrote Trisha Yearwood hit You say You Will), with Dave Pomeroy, Alison Prestwood, and Darrell Scott. These are some true friends of Kirk's, who often perform together at places such as The Bluebird Cafe. This album gives Johnson a chance to show why he already a legend in the music world, with a distinct bluesy sound that some try to copy but none match. Everyone has heard him play and most own a number of albums with him on it, if they only check the credits. He can play any kind of music, and is known for his tastefulness-the ability to play exactly what is needed-never too much or not enough, with a sound all his own. Kirk "Jelly Roll" Johnson has been the premier harmonica player in the business since hitting Nashville and doing breakout session work on Randy Travis' first album. Since then he has played on over 50 gold and platinum albums.
