Product Description
In the spring of 1948, Shreveport, Louisiana's KWKH radio created a show called the Louisiana Hayride. The live broadcast showcased regional talent just like its forebears The Grand Ole Opry, The Big D Jamboree and the WLS Barn Dance. From 1948-1960 the Hayride was a weekly staple for radio listeners.
In early 1958, a hillbilly tenor traveled to Shreveport to make his first appearance on the legendary show. Jimmy Martin, a native of East Tennessee and resident of Detroit, brought His Sunny Mountain boys to play the music with which he had made his living for nearly eight years. Bluegrass! A protégé of Bill Monroe and contemporary of the Osborne Brothers, Jimmy Martin soon became one of the premier performers of the genre.
The ten songs on this project were captured live from the stage of the Louisiana Hayride. Jimmy Martin & The Sunny Mountain Boys were in their prime. The songs are delivered nearly flawlessly by Martin as he sings and strums the rhythm guitar, harmony vocalist and mandolin player Paul Williams and J.D. Crowe on banjo.
The music on this project is proof that Jimmy Martin is the King of Bluegrass! --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
