Too Good To Be True.......2005-11-24
In 1975 I purchased an 8-Track Tape that I loved. It was called "Ray Stevens Misty" and it had the most upbeat tempo for some old songs like, Over the Rainbow, Deep Purple, Oh Lonesome Me and others. Believe it or not, when my parents died, I got their 8-Track Stereo System and all their old tapes. The player worked until about February of this year. I played my Ray Stevens tape on it constantly (just ask my husband) When the player broke, so did my heart. How was I ever going to hear my favorite music again. The last 12 songs on this CD are the songs from that tape. I am ecstatic!!! (...) If you like some of the old songs you will like this, they all have a different tempo, rhythm, beat and his voice makes them unique. If you liked his version of Misty, you will like this, believe me.
More Vintage Ray Recordings on CD.......2005-11-23
I am listening to this 22 song collection as i write this review. The music is wonderful...especially the gospel songs on the TURN YOUR RADIO ON portion. That album was originally released in 1972 and believe it or not, the title track was a big country hit. It hit the Country Top-20, the Pop Top-70, and the Adult-Contemporary Top-30. The other singles from the album weren't big in the country and pop format but "All My Trials" and "A Mama and a Papa" both crashed into the Adult-Contemporary Top-10 in 1971. The album also contained his 1969 hit, "Have a Little Talk With Myself". "Glory Special" is one of my favorites from the gospel album as is "Why Don't You Lead Me To That Rock"...the gospel portion closes with "Yes Jesus Loves Me", a song Ray wrote and one i had originally learned of in bible school when i was a kid. Song 12 kicks off the MISTY portion of the CD. "Misty" was a huge country hit for Ray in 1975...it won him a Grammy for "Best Arrangement". If you didn't know, Ray's version of "Misty" is did in a bluegrass style...fiddles, banjo's, plus the piano and steel guitar. The MISTY album came along in 1975. The whole album was a concept album, basically. Ray performs versions of pop standards and R&B songs...plus he tackles the country classic "Oh Lonesome Me" and he throws in some original material, too. The highlights for me on MISTY are: "Misty"; "Indian Love Call"; "Lady of Spain"; "Deep Purple"; and his take on "Mockingbird Hill" and "Young Love". On "Lady of Spain" we hear Ray in what i have always called a Louis Jordan-type vocal. The song is done up-tempo...Ray typically slows down songs that are known as up-tempo songs and if a song is known as a ballad, he sings it up-tempo...this is why "Misty" is up-tempo but "Young Love" is a slow ballad. "Cow Cow Boogie" is another good song...and it shows that Ray will take on ANY song from ANY origin and make it his own.

Pleasures for your mind.......2005-04-01
Take a trip with this CD and read his books, it will expand your mind!
beyond lifes better.......2000-10-06
this c.d is where a lot of diologue on beyond life with timothy leary is culled from.this album has not aged well with its very primitive sounds(a simple repetitive gong represents conciousness moving to inner-space)but i guess thats part of the appeal.its funny how at the time this would have blown(probably already blown!) minds!!still interesting for leary 'fans'or people interested in counter-culture relics.buy beyond life.
A good companion for the Experience..........2000-02-06
"Turn On, Tune In, Droup Out" happens to be one great CD. I have read most of Dr. Leary's books, and even got some CDs, but listening to this CD really gave me some kind of flash back. For those who are interested in knowing what it was like to attend Dr. Leary's Psychedelic Experiences, I would suggest that you give it a try. Just by closing your eyes and listening to Dr. Leary's voice you can find yourself projected in some totally unknow corner of your mind.

Great EP!.......2007-05-11
Earl's new EP is great. The songs are terrific and catchy, and the production is slick. If you're a fan of country music and great songwriting, check out this fine new collection of songs by Mr. Pickens.
Catchy, Thoughtful, and Fun!.......2007-05-03
This follow-up EP to Earl's debut, *Country Music Jukebox," finds Earl backed by former members of the great Badlees on four original songs, all of them brimming with the catchy hooks and clever word-play Earl's fans expect.
The (nearly) title track is a summer singalong as deserving of a place in your convertible as those Beach Boys and Springsteen tunes you've always listened to with the top down, and the closer, "So Wild," name checks both Jesus and Hank Williams while recognizing that Joan (d'Arc, not Armatrading) was hot in more ways than one. And in case that's not enough, this EP has a soft creamy center, filled with the sly assessment of "I Know What You Want" and the bitter yanking yearning (or perhaps yitter burning anger) of "Wildflower of Pennsylvania," a song which may be responsible for the sudden appearance of Wildflowers in PA this past week.
In short, buy it! It won't be sorry. You won't be either. And if you are, well, it will be your own dang fault.

Customer Reviews:
A sampling of Travis's radio work from his best years.......1998-08-06
Spanning Merle's most active years, this CD draws on radio transcriptions for the most part, as the title suggests, but there's also an extract from a 1966 onstage reunion of Travis and his guitar mentor, Mose Rager - significant as much for its historical resonances, in a country guitar context, as for the quality of the playing. Without Rager there would have been no Travis guitar style, and without that there would have been no Chet Atkins as we know him...or Scotty Moore, or James Burton, or Jerry Reed. Several of Travis's great guitar tunes are here - Cannonball Rag, I'll See You In My Dreams, Bugle Call Rag, Rock-a-Bye Rag - as well as a selection of his 1940s honky-tonk hits - No Vacancy, Cincinatti Lou, So Round So Firm So Fully Packed - and the more celebrated 'folk songs' - Sixteen Tons, Nine Pound Hammer, John Henry. The sources are as varied as Travis's repertoire: a 1944 transcription cut with Wesley Tuttle and the Coon Hunters, a 1959 Town Hall Party excer! pt, the set with Rager (from an outdoor concert at the Smithsonian?), and more radio transciption material from the mid-1960s. Travis was a star on West Coast radio in the 40s and 50s and this sampling is representative of his best years - great songs, spirited singing and magical guitar playing. This is the fourth Country Routes CD from the Travis radio archive. They say Merle was at his best on the radio and this selection certainly supports that view. The CD liner notes promise even more material and since Travis left us in 1983 that can only be very good news indeed.

Suzanne & Kelly are the greatest.......2000-11-22
I've never heard anything so wonderful, so lyrical and so spiritual without being overbearing. I love the way the ladies' voices blend and the songs, especially "Slick," are really great. I'd recommend this to country fans but really anybody who loves great pop will love Turn on the Radio.
