A Slight Innacuracy.......2007-06-13
The version of "Nadia's Theme" (Theme from The Young and the Restless) isn't actually the one you're expecting. I believe it's actually the original arrangement made for "Bless the Beasts and the Children". So what later became the Young and the Restless theme (the one that was a hit) still remains unreleased on CD.
Hopefully, we can see that version on a future release. Maybe they could get "Little Ballerina Blue" on one while they're at it.
Still, some great stuff here.

Hard to Find Orchestral Instrumentals, Vol. 2.......2006-03-22
The purchase went as we had hoped. The delievry was as promised, and the quality of the product equal too, or above our expectations.
Not totally an instrumental.......2006-03-10
I was excited to find this album. I bought it but was horrified to find a loud vocal on the first track. The rest of the music is all instrumental but this one track simply JARS you when it plays. Very disappointing!
Another Collection You Wonr Find Anywhere else.......2003-05-06
Well, ERIC records has done it again.
Continuing their unique practice of giving us both well known hits and impossible to find rarities, Eric presents Volume 2 of "Hard to Find Orchestral Instrumentals". This one is, in my opinion, even better than the first.
First off, the sound quality of this disk is ASTOUNDING. ERIC has gotten the various reissue departments to provide them with absolute first generation mono and stereo masters and this CD proves it. The aural quality is breathtaking. The fact that Orchestral music is so beautifully suited for true stereo playback is exhibited here, as a whopping 15 of the 20 tracks are True Stereo and sound magnificent.
There are, of course, the big soundtrack hits here, like 'The Day The Rains Came" "Rocky", "Ben Casey", "Theme from The Apartment", and " Nadias Theme". All top 30 and well remembered. However, for this 43 year old fan, it was the some of the lessor known tracks, in particulatr the 1963 Colpix low level charter "Theme From The Long Ships" that really makes this collection the gem that it is. Outstanding tracks include "Theme From The Sundowners" , "The Dark At The Top of The Stairs" and "I Will Follow Him" , all tracks that will suddenly sound familiar again after first listen.
Therein lies the BEST part of this collection. When you put this on your player, you will be treated to a nostalgic feast,
a time when the magic of Orchestral music still ruled the charts, and existed in all our homes. And you'll certainly remember most of these once you hear them, which is the fun part!!
There arent enough great things I can say about this collection AND its sister CD "Hard To Find pop Instrumentals- Part 2" I personally liked this volume better, but if you dont have either yet, give yourself a musical treat, and some REAL listening enjoyment and pick these up...
Its listening the way it used to be.

Customer Reviews:
Perfect Release of a two-fer.......2004-11-20
The person who wrote the review below is wrong : the "Alone" album was recorded and released in mono sound, in 1957. "Judy in Love" was Garland's first album recorded and released in stereo, in 1958.
The sound on this disc is spectacular. The original session tapes were used, for the best sound possible. It is glorious sound here, folks.
Pehaps the person that wrote the review below is thinking of the previous two-fer of "Judy in Love" from England, a few years back, paired with the "Judy" album. That CD sounded very flat and dry.
Get this new and improved disc, and you'll love it.
Finally "Alone" on CD!.......2003-10-01
I just received this Judy "double bill" and I can only say it's GREAT!! "Alone" was always one of my favorite Judy albums, and I am more than pleased to have it on CD now. The sound is not stereo, as another reviewer point out, but it never was recorded in stereo. I have the old vinyl, and that's mono too, but also pretty worn, after all these years. The liner notes actually are pretty good too. The original covers are reproduced, with the original liner notes reprinted, AND some fresh liner notes about this re-issue. There, you can read that the "alone" recordings are from 1957, and that "Judy in Love" is from 1958, and was her first stereo album for Capitol.
So why is "alone" my favorite Judy album? Maybe simply because it was one of my first encounters with Judy, when I was 17 years old. I didn't realize at the time that the selection of songs is pretty unusual. It's not the repertoire she sang a lot in her live and TV shows. I love the mostly subdued pathos on this album, although she does belt it out occasionally, in her own inimitable way. The songs are about 'surviving on your own', and some times about finding your inner strength, in a bittersweet way. The album is not very cheerful, but it does make me feel good, in a sentimental way. The arrangements are very good, just right, in the 'proper' fifties style. The strings have a very warm quality, which wasn't always the case in those days. There is also a beautiful large choir singing in the background on some tracks.
Some of the songs are very unknown, which makes this album special too. Happy New Year, for instance, is a beautiful torch song, written over a very slow version of Old Lang Syne in minor key; a real gem of a song! Blue Prelude is also a great song, so don't be discouraged by the titles you may not know.
All in all, a 'must have' for any Judy fan, but also a wonderful introduction if you want to get acquainted with Judy's singing. "Judy in Love" is an excellent example of her warm joyful singing, while "Alone" gives you all those wonderful torch songs. A balanced package, with a passionate Judy in great voice!!
Terrible sound and terrible packaging.......2003-06-27
Let me rant. This CD has 2 albums on it. 1 is mono and the other stereo!? I have these albums on records and they are both stereo. I feel ripped off. Also, these albums do not sound anywhere like the records in quality. In fact, they sound very boring and lacking of any sort of life. Judy did very big, exciting production numbers and the sound on this CD makes them sound stale and dead. I returned this CD and demanded my money back. The store clerk said I wasn't the only one. Thumbs way down.
JUDY AT HER BEST with SPECTACULAR SOUND!.......2002-05-11
JUDY IN LOVE is perhaps Garland's greatest studio album. A superb collaboration with Judy in wonderful voice, and arranger Nelson Riddle at the top of his form. Inexplicably, this album is only now making its CD debut in the U.S. Capitol Records seemingly had no interest in releasing it themselves, so they've sublicensed it to S&P Records, who have done a terrific mixing and remastering job. Comparing the sound to a recent UK import is overwhelmingly impressive. The UK release sounds mediocre, and this new issue belies its having been recorded 44 years ago.
JUDY IN LOVE is paired with her monaural ballad album ALONE, which was arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins. The two albums together are a distinct contrast and yet only show the versatility and mastery of Garland. The highlight of the ALONE tracks is Jenkins' schmaltzy, yet irresistable I'VE GOT A RIGHT TO SING THE BLUES. ALONE was previously issued on CD by Capitol years ago, but has been long out of print, so this collection is a dream come true for Garland fans.
The 5 Star rating is for the recordings and the way they've been beautifully produced. It does not, however, represent a true rating for the package itself, which has been saddled with awful,
amateurish liner notes which are so poorly written that it's a blatant insult to Garland. What a shame the producers who took such care in creating such a great sounding album, didn't bring the same kind of excellence to the accompanying package. This should not detract anyone from buying this CD, but buyers looking for an interesting commentary on the legendary lady and these specific tracks will have to go elsewhere.
Garland the Great.......2002-05-02
A beautiful compilation of two classic, original "Judy" albums. These are two of the six studio albums she recorded for Capitol in the fifties, and these are probably the best. While Judy's vocal tone is not at its best on "Judy in Love", the song selections and her interprative genius make up for the slight vocal imperfections. "More Than You Know", "I Am Loved" and "By Myself" are absolute delights, and are clearly definitive versions of these songs. In addition, the ballads shine with passion and tenderness. "Alone" is mostly filled with similarly tender songs, and on this one Garland is in fine, full voice throughout. "Little Girl Blue" is a particular standout, and the addition of the never before released "Then You've Never Been Blue" is a special treat for fans and newcomers. Popular singing doesn't come any better than this.

Customer Reviews:
Very Satisfying.......2006-12-05
With 22 tracks of absolutely wonderful songs, this album is a good value. Hammond had a few big hits, but never was as popular as he should have been It's difficult to say why not, as he certainly wrote and performed many excellent songs, many of them on this album. He was probably more successful as a songwriter than as a performer and wrote several huge hits for other artists. I only knew Hammond from "It Never Rains in Southern California". It's still a favorite, but almost all the songs on this album are equally as good or better. There's not a bad song on the album. This is one of those artists that you can't help but wonder why you didn't discover sooner. Finding this album was like finding a lost treasure. Hammond doesn't have a perfect voice or as much passion or feeling as some singers, but even without that he is still a darn good singer and this is a very enjoyable and satisfying album. You won't be disappointed.
It Never Rains In Southern California.......2005-11-05
You may say who is Albert Hammond? This is truly an amazing listen. You can hear elements of the likes of Cat Stevens and The Guess Who. The first ten songs are from the original album, "It Never Rains In Southern California," a master work in itself on par with the likes of "Tea For The Tillerman." It Never Rains In Southern California is a catchy tune that turned out to be a top 10 hit for Hammond, but actually one of the weakest songs on the album. "From Great Britain To LA" is a delicious song about stardom; "If You Gotta Break Another Heart" is a beautiful and meditative song we can all relate to; "Down By The River" and "The Road To Understanding" are anthem-like folk-rock tunes that you will enjoy. The greatest song is "Names, Tags, Numbers, Labels," a song of both melodic and philosphic depth. In conclusion, this is a must-have for anyone who enjoys the folk-rock genre.
FREE ELECTRIC MAN.......2005-10-13
Singer/songwriter Albert Hammond's greatest hits collection (culled from his first three albums) features his endearing ode to the often futile search for stardom, "It Never Rains in Southern California", a seventies pop classic if ever there was one. But don't stop there. "Down By the River" (not the Neil Young tune)is a catchy anti-pollution protest, "The Free Electric Band" is an apparent musical autobiography, and "I'm a Train" an infectious novelty. You'll also enjoy the Hammond compositions "The Air That I Breathe" (a smash for the Hollies), and "Smokey Factory Blues" (covered by Steppenwolf), plus numerous other folky pop gems. Remember, this is the man who penned classics for Leo Sayre, Starship, Willie Nelson, Ziggy Marley, and countless others, so he knows his way around a melody. Check out "Names, Tags, Numbers, and Labels", "The Peacemaker," and "The Day the British Army Lost the War", and you too, will be a believer. An interesting footnote; Albert Hammond Jr. plays guitar in the recently hot band The Strokes.
Albert Hammond /It Never Rains in Southern California.......2005-07-08
I'm getting a new CD from Albert Hammond for my aunt, uncle, cousins for christmas this year one for Victoria & Shasha as a gift from me.
Could easily be a "best of" compilation.......2001-10-10
This CD contains all the songs from Albert Hammond's first two solo albums (It never rains in Southern California, 1972/The free electric band, 1973) - which are among his best ones - in their original order, as well as two songs from his third LP, Albert Hammond (1974).
This sounds very unspectacular and could make you think that this CD is just a more or less ordinary re-release of some ordinary albums - but because of the over-average lyrics and the outstanding production, it could easily be a "best of" compilation (by far not complete, though):
Only It never rains in Southern California, Down by the river, The air that I breathe and The free electric band being really popular, this CD contains several underestimated gems, e.g. Anyone here in the audience, Names, tags, numbers & labels, The road to understanding, Smokey factory blues, Rebecca...
The Albert Hammond/Mike Hazlewood songwriting team was/is without doubt one of the greatest gifts of the Seventies' music world. But please be aware that Hammond didn't leave the business after these efforts; hopefully, Sony will prove this by re-releasing more of his works.
See alberthammond.net, my website about this great singer/songwriter (supported by Albert Hammond himself), for more details on his life and music.

This CD Kicks Ass.......2005-10-25
You will appreciate this CD especially if you are a fan of Garbage, but it is even cool if you aren't. The first time I listened to it (and it starts out with "Only Happy When It Rains," which adds to the ass-kickery), I couldn't stop smiling because it was so damn cool. The wall-of-sound style Garbage is famous for doesn't lose anything in the translation to a string quartet. These musicians did an excellent job and it is obvious that they put a lot of work into this. Almost none of the intricate details in the original songs are lost as performed by this quartet. I'd say it's just about perfect. This CD kicks ass. I recommend it for all Garbage fans.
Not supposed to be BIG SOUNDING... it's a quartet..........2004-08-13
A reviewer wrote; "it didn't have the big sound that Garbage's songs have" and "I was expecting the compositions to be made bigger". He later went on and called it a classical album ... It isn't symphony ... it isn't supposed to sound like a symphony. It supposed to sound like a quartet. It is HUGE for a quartet. I felt like this CD totally captured the essence of Garbage's songs and Shirley's vocal characteristics and it is very big sounding for a quartet.
If your expectation goes beyond what the title of this CD is: "The STRING QUARTET Tribute To Garbage", then maybe you'll be dissapointed. But if you know what a string quartet is supposed to sound like and you like Garbage, then this CD is a masterpiece that you will enjoy listening to over & over again!!!
A star for the subject and a star for the concept..........2004-07-03
Everything else fell flat. This classical album didn't have the guts that is for sure. Also it didn't have the big sound that Garbage's songs have. I knew it wouldn't be able to summon up the vibe of the band or the truly great and difficult to describe feel of Shirley Manson's voice which instruments are unlikely to get close to. However I was expecting the compositions to be made bigger and more at the forefront. Didn't happen. The subject and idea are admirable enough but it just didn't work. Didn't really do justice to the material. Overall just a shadow of the the actual songs. Unlike alot of classical takes on various different styles of rock songs, the sound is less and the composition is underdone. This could have gone bad in alot of ways I'm just alittle surprised at the way it actually did go bad. I just didn't care for it. Like another reviewer said, there was an unimaginative tone to it. Even if they had tried to say do all the notes just the way the songs were only all instrumental and on all classically identified instruments it would have been unimaginative but still probably good. They didn't even do that. They lessened the feeling of it.
Very Beautiful.......2004-03-02
I thought the tributes were very nice, very elagent, and very unique. The violinist did such a great job on songs like "Stupid Girl" and "Breaking Up The Girl", that it made you reminice of the old, meek, and dark days of Garbage, and transform them into a beautiful masterpiece. Each song gives the listener the nostolgia of each song, with each string plucked, the listener can quickly identify the song. Definetly worth the buy, and a good CD for the collection.
Steven D. Moore Is Drunk...........2003-04-10
....And doesn't know anything about Garbage! I bought this CD and I love it! I'm a Garbage fan and have every single one of their records and this one is one of my favorites! If you are anything like me and you love Garbage, then you will love this CD and it is definately worth the money. It is exactly like their songs but played by violins and cellos. It's really beautiful and gives you a new perspective on their songs. Steven D. Moore should have listened to at least one Garbage song before he wrote his stupid review about this CD.

This pairing of Glenn Gould and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf is an essential asset to the collection of any lover of the vocal repertoire. Strauss's "Ophelia" suggests that the last word on German lied had not yet been sounded by the 20th century. Gould's interpretation is not, of course, lushly romantic; it's endowed with his unmistakable, brilliant clarity, and casts a new light. As always, to hear Gould tackle any repertoire remains astonishing. --Joshua Cody

An Interesting GG Set..........2004-05-11
Tennyson's Enoch Arden, edited and set for recital with musical interludes. I've always liked Claude Rains; and, needless to say, GG is superb here: my only complaint is rather in the form of a wish or suggestion: I wish GG (or Sony) had simply released GG playing Strauss' music without recitation. Why? While Rains is great, and the poem is nice--a few times around--it later wears thin: its dated Victorian sentimentality. We end up hearing more Rains and Tennyson than GG and Strauss. Still, this is a unique and interesting performance; and GG's realization of Strauss' piano music is scintillating. The earlier Piano Sonata is great, as well as the Klavierstucke.
GG's collaboration with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf is infamous. GG always admired Dame Liz; and he wanted to record many lieder with her (viz., Schoenberg's, Hindemith's, etc.). The problem was this: Gould wanted to lead in the aesthetic realization of any collaboration. He was able to do so with Menuin, Laredo, and some lesser vocalists, etc.; however, Schwarzkopf was not to be outdone: she was already a great and respected soloist, and she found GG's eccentric vision for realization too unusual. Indeed, she took offense at GG's playing of the songs. So, after a few cuts, the session was called off short--and that was that. Well, what can one say? Sometimes great minds don't always work well together.

Customer Reviews:
Not quite the masterpiece that blues master claims.......2000-12-13
While I will agree with Blues Master on one or two points, I feel that his exuberance is largely unjustified. Comparing Ronnie Earl to T- Bone Walker is like comparing prime rib to matzah. It has been said that Ronnie Earl never used to tune his guitar before live performances, and that can certainly be observed on this recording. There are two "e"s on a guitar, but only one "e" in team. Comprende?
blues master.......2000-12-07
Not since Robert Lockwood jr. has a guitar player mastered the intense soulfulness of Ronnie Earl. Ronnie's earlier recordings on the Black Top label pale in comparision to this record. The single string guitar riffs are smooth, and crisp in the vain of T-Bone Walker, while the Broadcasters make you feel as if your standing in a Chicago juke joint. The song selection is a perfect mix of instumental, and throaty tin pan alley numbers. A must have!

BEAUTIFUL SONG and EXCEPTIONAL VIDEO !.......2006-07-09
This single, from the upcoming album "SO WE MEET AGAIN", is currently released in France where David CHARVET has been gracing the TV channels with his amazing mini-movie for a few weeks now: only this video would make the CD worth buying!
The title song is great and the other track allows him to show off another aspect of his musical talent.
Another extra coming with the CD is the video of his previous hit, "Je te dedie"(The tears in my eyes), featuring top model Bar Refaeli.
