“Pieces Of The Past” is produced by Cork, Ireland's Matt Manning. The collection also includes some musical and vocal contributions by Jackson Browne, Bruce Hornsby, Darryl Johnson and Steve Poltz. “This is a roots album for me,” Tim says. “I wanted to honor my Irish-Kentucky-Cherokee ancestors, who made up the very fiber of who I am. I have always carried a guitar and have written songs during my twenty years on the baseball circuit.” Tim played with The San Diego Padres from 1979 to 1989 as an infielder. He returned to The Padres as a coach in 1992 and has served as third base coach for the past four years. Tim has played and coached in two World Series. Tim Flannery has also released two previous albums on his Whalebone label. His last record, “Secret World,” was nominated by The San Diego Music Awards for Adult Alternative Album Of The Year. Proceeds from sales of that record were spent to bring over 1,200 underprivileged children to Padres baseball games. “Tim is like a two-sport star, with his music and baseball,” offered Garth Brooks, with whom Flannery has gigged and also played on the baseball diamond, “and he can do it very well. There is a certain thing in music, when you hear a CD and you think the singer wrote all the cuts. Although I knew Mulenburg County (“Paradise” by John Prine) wasn't his song, I'd have sworn that he wrote it. That shows you a great singer. He also recorded Guy Clark's “Immigrant Eyes,” and when I heard that, I cried.”

The founding members of Pieces of a Dream--keyboard player James K. Lloyd, drummer Curtis Harmon, and bassist Cedric Hamilton--began playing together as Philadelphia high-school students in the '70s. A few years later, with their first producer, the late Grover Washington Jr., they were blending laid-back improvisation and R&B grooves before the smooth-jazz genre existed. That long-standing identity as a band still distinguishes them, and this CD marks a deliberate invocation of their roots, including the tune "Philly High." Lloyd's gift for elegant lyricism stands out here, especially on the moody "Cry of the Lonely," while Eddie Baccus Jr. lends his romantic soprano sax to the tender "Took So Long" and "Love You for Life." Tracks with singers Maysa Leak and Calvin Richardson make the R&B roots of the band explicit, and there's some fresh Latin fire on "The Good Life." --Adam Rains

    I got this CD from a friend of a friend of the artist's sister and was blown away! I knew about Tim from his days with the San Diego Padres, but I never knew he could sing and play like this! I'd put him on the shelf in the music hall of fame with Elvis Presley and James Taylor. "Paradise" was a beautiful and stirring song about industrial changes in the south. "Immigrant Eyes" is a moving portrayal of men "starting with nothing and working hard all of thier lives." And "The Foot of the Cross" is the best "church song" ever written! This CD is a Piece of my present and I KNOW it will be a piece of my past!

    Tim hits a home run with this CD. The music is great as well as his voice. The songs tell stories with feeling...good country/folk music. I can't wait for his next CD...due out soon.

    Classic is not enough, amazing is not enough, sensational is not enough, to describe the spiritual power of several of the lyrical offerings on this album. In my subjective assessment, "In his arms I'm not afraid," is truly the most beautiful and moving song I've ever heard. This song has a tendency to move me to tears as it pierces the depths of my soul with the clarity of its spiritual message and the absolutely angelic quality of the singing voices and music.

    My second favorite song on this album is, "Is not this the land of Beulah?" Again, the same qualities as above infuse the song with a depth of spiritual beauty that lifts my soul heavanward in gracious praise and glorious worship of my Saviour. I love The Issacs for making this contribution to the spiritual welfare of their Christian Brothers and Sisters, and I invite everyone with a longing in their soul, that can't be satisfied, to taste a drop or two of the pure blessings of our heavanly Father, flowing from his humble musical servants - The Issacs.

    "Is Not This The Land of Beulah" is an old, old song that I have heard many times by many different artists. Without question, by far the most beautiful arrangement I have ever heard of this old song is the way it is performed on this CD. The beautiful, clear vocal doesn't require that it be hidden behind elaborate instrumentals and at the beginning of this song it sounds like the singer is accompanied only by a single guitar. In this song it was not clear to me which voice was Rebecca's and which was Sonya's but when WHOEVER sings "How sweetly Jesus whispers, 'take thy cross thou needst not fear...'" the hair on the back of my neck stands up. This song also proves that the greatest harmony is provided by family members. Another spectacular Isaacs CD!

    I love this cd. I am 16 years old and have been a fan of the Isaacs for 3 years after I saw them in concert. This is a beautiful and uplifting cd and I would recommend it to anyone who likes gospel music. I don't like bluegrass but I still love thier music. If you like the Isaacs then I recommend the Crabb family. I saw them in concert and bought their cds and they are amazing as well.

    This is an awesome CD. The songs are tight, the playing very good and professional, and the singing is some of the very best around. The Isaacs are responsible for me developing a taste for bluegrass music, but this should be liked by anyone who simply appreciates music. Easily a five star rating.

      Well done performance with wide array of types/styles.

      From excellent baroque of Bach and Marais to romantic of Aure, Ravel, Strauss to the unusual Chinese and Jewish folk, this is a pleasing variety to the ear.

      Principal oboist Cooper of Colorado Symphony has rich, dark sound with excellent phrasing. This is well supported by lush harpist Labella. She is magnificent on Wiegenlied by Strauss as she performs whole string section part.

      Well worth the purchase and replay.

      -A truly lovely compilation of work that goes so well with a glass of something nice to create the atmosphere of a perfect afternoon or evening. This has become one of my favorite C.D.s for casual listening to relax and de-stress over coffee or tea in the early evening. The combination of sweetness and depth of the performance is really stunning, and makes repeat listening sincerely enjoyable.

      This CD was recommended by a friend of mine who had read great things about the artist in one of his chat rooms. So I bought it, and can't wait until another CD comes out from Mr. Cooper! The musical selections are really beautiful, and a bit eclectic, and he plays each one with a different, singing, style. The harpist is really fabulous, too. I didn't realize that the oboe could such a pleasing instrument. I've been listening to the CD every night when I get home - it relaxes me, and my 9 month old really loves it, too.

          Recorded during the sessions for Sagittarius's Blue Marble, Voices of the Millennium features many of the songs from that record with the original Curt Boettcher harmony arrangements restored. (They were originally replaced by Gary Usher's Moog synthesizer.) Voices also contains lost cuts from Sandy Salisbury and Curt Boettcher. Digitally re-mastered. Pieces picks up where Begin left off, featuring the best of unreleased Millennium material. These songs were either left off their first album or intended for the never-released 1969 follow-up. The album was digitally remastered and includes exclusive liners by Jason Penick. It is essential listening for sunshine pop and psych-pop fans!
