There was only one Hank Sr.; there was only one Patsy Cline. And there is only one Diane Gentes. Her unmistakable voice gives you chills in a style that is all her own. At the crossroads where country, blues, and folk meet, you will find Diane Gentes strumming her guitar.

Diane Gentes grew up in Winnipeg, Canada and picked up her love for music from her father, who was a guitarist playing in dance bands. Her performing career was launched when she sang in her Dad's bands at local dances.

Diane honed her skills as a vocalist and songwriter while touring with her bands throughout Canada. Today her music, whether solo or with her band, is enjoyed at concerts, club appearances, and writers' nights all over Nashville.

In a town where the tastemakers label anything traditional country as "boring" (as producer Chuck Howard did with Brad Paisley in the Nashville press), this Canadian native stands apart from the style benders on the Nashville scene. Something in Gentes' personable, lilting alto reminds the listener of a 1970s Emmylou Harris, a pair of cowboy boots among high-heel glitter sneakers. Her heartfelt and traditional themed songwriting, combined with an emphasis on acoustic instrumentation and soaring vocal harmonies, give this CD both impact and listenability. Whether the winning "Courage to Say Goodbye," the whimsical "Go Your Own Way," or the emotional title track (about dealing with losing her parents to a drunk driver), Gentes has recorded a solid 13 country tracks that are quite listener friendly.

I have listened to this CD over and over! It is soulful, bluesy, jazzy and country in a uniquely packaged sound. Diane's voice and the quality of the writing is fantastic - and it goes without saying that the musicians are top notch - nothing less than what you can expect from this very talented woman.

As a fan of Diane's for many years, I have long awaited the release of her debut CD and it has been well worth the wait. Listening to the selections brings back many memories of the bands Diane has sung with, the thrill I felt singing with her and of course, the memory of her wonderful parents and family. I have commented many times over the years that she's one of the best kept secrets in Canada. But no longer! Another amazing Canadian taking the music world by storm! Finally the rest of the world can enjoy this talented and gifted performer/songwriter.

I have known Diane for more than twenty years, although we have not always been in contact. Her music has always reached deep inside my soul, but her debut CD just blew me away. Her title song, A Lifetime Left to Cry, indeed brought tears to my eyes as I had known her parents who were killed by that drunk driver. No one has ever written and sung a song as powerful as that one. She is one great artist!

I thoroughly enjoyed Diane's new CD "A Lifetime To Cry." I had the oppportunity to meet her personally and review her CD and I will never leave home without it again. It's soulful, warm, and caring; it cuts right to the heart of emotion. Can't wait for the next CD to be released.
