Customer Reviews:
Ultra Listenable.......2007-05-20
Along with "Hits I Missed and One I didn't", every time I listen to this 3 disc set in my vehicle it seems like the first time I've heard Jones' voice, hooking, mesmerizing...
For me George ranks right there with Tina Turner, "The Best", Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse of the Heart", Rolling Stones "40 Licks", Dylan and Cash "Girl from the North Country", Clapton's "Layla", Big Head Todd "Bittersweet", Dylan and the Dead "Slow Train Comin", Kris Kristofferson "Me and Bobbie McGee" and "Sunday Mornin", Fleetwood Mac, Gordon Lightfoot's "Edmund Fitzgerald", Beach Boys, CSNY,CCR,Buffalo Springfield, Roy Orbison, The Band, Hapa's "He'Eia", Eagles, Motown, Jefferson Airplane.. all the music I listen to driving and running that just turns to dust it's so worn out. And also George is right there with, Winston Churchill, whose liver, Richard Burton said, "The world would admire".
Can't disagree with Wynona that the best country song ever and the best country singer at that moment singing it is "He can't stop loving her today".For me, better than "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is the phenominal "Choices", his story...everybody's story in a way.
How many other guys riding around out there on their John Deere riding lawnmowers to go get a bottle of Jack are turning out as clean and good as this?
Riminising With George.......2007-05-17
When I purchased this CD I thought I was buying it for my husband, Lyle. Little did I know, how much I would enjoy the CD. Some of the older songs were not familar to me,but Lyle remembered them all(he's nine years wiser than me). We've introduced it to family members and have yet to find anyone who doesn't enjoy it as much as we do. I'm glad Mr. Jones was able to release this CD while he could still comment on his life and career instead of someone doing it after he's gone. That personal touch means alot.
Outstanding!.......2007-04-04
If you love George Jones like many of us do, you must buy this set! It is probably the BEST of ALL his recordings. The quality is pure, crisp, studio sound with his best vocals. I have many recordings of George Jones, but this set is simply the best versions of his repitoire!
Merry Christmas Dad.......2007-01-12
I got this for my dad at Christmas. He couldn't have been happier. He loves George Jones. It made his day
Great Time Piece.......2007-01-09
I bought this cd as a goft for my father and he loved it. Brought back memories of better days.

Customer Reviews:
Every song from the first half of her career.......2006-10-19
Please note that this is a re-issue of a long-out-of print double CD (Crazy dreams - the Four Star years) with exactly the same track listing but different packaging.
Patsy's recording career lasted from 1956 to 1963 and was divided between two record labels - Four Star and Decca, the switch occurring in 1960. Most of her success came with Decca but this collection focuses on the Four Star recordings, for which this is the best ever released, containing every song she ever recorded for the label, superbly re-mastered. There are extensive liner notes including session details for these recordings, even including an outline of her career with Decca. The style of Patsy's music on Four Star was solidly traditional country with none of the strings that were used on her Decca recordings.
Patsy's only hit during her time with Four Star was Walking after midnight, a song that Patsy later re-recorded for Decca. Part of the reason for Patsy's limited success (and the main reason that she eventually left Four Star) was that she was only allowed to record songs for which the record label held the publishing copyright. Despite this limitation, there are many excellent songs here.
Apart from Walking after midnight, the most famous original song here is the classic ballad, Just out of reach, a song that has often been covered by country, pop and soul singers. Now, why wasn't Patsy's recording a hit? Among the other great songs here are Pick me up on your way down, A poor man's roses (later covered by Reba McEntire, a huge fan of Patsy's music), In care of the blues and Come on in.
Towards the end of Patsy's contract with Four Star, the label relented and she was able to record some other songs including covers of Lovesick blues, Life's railway to heaven and Just a closer walk with thee. It was too late. Patsy moved to Decca and suddenly became a major star by recording some of the best original songs available.
If you are new to Patsy's music, I recommend that you should first look for a collection of her Decca music including such classics as I fall to pieces, Crazy and She's got you. If you want to explore further, you will enjoy this.

the happy goodman family.......2006-02-25

This album is the BEST! I love to hear the couple that have been married for 50 years sing. Vestal is the greatest. She is my favorite gospel singer. If you don't have this album, make sure you get it soon! Love ya Vestal!!!!
"Friends".......2000-06-23
Vestal and Howard Goodman. These names ring a bell to those of us who grew up listening to the Happy Goodmans. These 2 people are SO special. All of the songs on this cd I know are special to them. I feel I have known Vestal all my life. The song Friends is really special to me in such a way that-it reminds me that-we all have at least one earthly very special friend. But, we also have a Heavenly Father who wants to be our friend also. My favorite words in this song are,"..you just love me, and you pray for me-thats a friend." That IS a friend. God is our friend. We know that. And even with all the troubles this life may bring, one thing two special people said has always kept me going,"Lord, I wouldn't take nothin' for my journey now!"

Warm and Nicely Done!.......2002-12-19
If you were to buy a release by Mustard's Retreat, this may be the one, since it highlights their strength: live performance. I have witnessed around 30-40 of them dating back to 1979, in their days in the bars and pubs of Flint, MI, and their warmth is nicely captured here.
Typical of their song selection is: 'Part Of Me Remembers', a sincere but not sappy song about loss that always brings a tear to my eyes; 'Detroit 1763', a first-person documentary which is among many they cull from Michigan history; and 'One Meatball', just one example of their great sense of humor.
Whether you're a folk purist or more of a pop-music fan, ANY Mustard's Retreat release will have something for you, but this one is still probably their all-around best!

Customer Reviews:
A Lot of the Essentials.......2004-10-12
So many compilations of Elvis' hits suffer from a lack of chronology. A 1950s hit will sound so much different from, say, "Moody Blue". But there are enough hits on this CD to make it a good investment. There are fewer of the songs other artists made popular which Elvis covered in his recording career after his 1968 "comeback" TV concert. (Was he trying to claim them as his own?) There is some sense of continuity with the real ELVIS hits and it makes for good listening. Enjoy.
50 hits is enough to start you off in the right direction........2002-11-04
This relaese, originally released in 1985 to commemorate 50 years after the birth of Elvis Presley, went double platinum a short while ago. Each song on this fantastic release is quite a gem. It gives a little variety of Elvis' musical talent. The rocker, "Hound Dog", the romantic, "Love Me Tender", from the heart, "If I Can Dream", the love songs "Can't Help Falling In Love", the movies, "Blue Hawaii", and so much more! I was excited to get this years ago. Excellent song choices with very poor packaging. On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the best): Packaging = 2, Sound Quality = 4. It might be a little poor in those areas, but a must-have to start your Elvis collection.
50 original versions crammed onto 2 CDs........2002-11-02
This collection is just what it appears to be: Elvis' top hits in their original versions crammed onto two CDs. I bought this collection because it had the largest number of Elvis songs I wanted in a single package, without having to buy an expensive box set. I don't know enough to comment on the mixing, but it sounded fine to me; the older songs sound like mono. One unique thing I'd never heard before was the pair of aborted takes left in the intro of "Such A Night," where Elvis miscounted the number of intro riffs. Two songs that really stood out as timeless, quality songs were the newer, longer pieces with strings: "Kentucky Rain" (1970) and "Suspicious Minds" (1969). The songs here aren't in chronological order or any other logical order that I can detect, which is a minor annoyance since these songs cover such a wide span of years and sound.
