Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars It's even better due to the fact that it has the previously unreleased "Einstein On The Beach!".......2007-05-09

"Einstein On The Beach" is what really made this greatest hits album exceptional. This was always one of my favorite Counting Crows songs, but it never got released on any of their albums, so it wasn't until this greatest hits album got released that I finally was able to own that song after all these years. Even without this song on there, however, this would still be a great collection. After all, IT'S COUNTING CROWS!!

5 out of 5 stars This album is worth the dough!.......2007-03-09

This is a really good greatest hits album by The Counting Crows. It includes all their hits except for one that I feel should have been included, "A Murder of One" it's off their first album "August And Everything After." All together you should buy this album or at least dl and add it to ur collection. I have it on my mp3 player and you should too!

5 out of 5 stars Best of Counting Crows.......2007-01-30

Excellent album, I get it over a year ago and I swear a week doesn't go by where I can't help from putting this cd in my cd player! Nice mix of songs and a good variety too. So no matter what mood ur in this cd has something on it for you!

5 out of 5 stars I've been Counting Crows since I got this album.......2007-01-30

I was never a "real" fan of Counting Crows before seeing them in concert this summer. I had the songs "A Long December," "Mr. Jones," and "Colorblind" in my collection. This "greatest hits" album is a great way to experience the band without buying their myriad of CDs, if you can't afford them. Some of them are old favorites, including two of the three mentioned above. Some were new to me, including "American Girls" and "Einstein on the Beach (For an Eggman)," both of which I had never heard before and now really enjoy. I would suggest, however, that you do purchase "Colorblind" separately, because it is one of their best songs and is not included in this album.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it now.......2007-01-21

I recently bought this CD and loved it. Some of the songs are often heard on the radio, and those are the ones I listened to a lot at first, and then I started listening to the rest of the CD and found it was absolutely incredible.

I love that their songs have some point while still being upbeat, for the most part, which is a rare feat- I've found most light songs lack any real depth.

My favorite song on this CD was 'Anna Begins', but they were all amazing.

I also had the chance to see the Counting Crows live in concert, and that was amazing too- I think the live version adds to the depth of the songs, so now I'm planning to buy their live CD as well.

I'd definitely recommend this CD to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars great cd.......2007-05-07

If you want to hear lots of hits compiled on to one cd, then this is a great buy. I think the NOW cd's are great.

4 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD.......2007-03-30

This is a very good addition to any NOW fans CD collection or anyone's,
in general, as it has a good variety of music. I will do a track-by-track
review:

1. Fergie-London Bridge: Fergie is okay solo. This is not a great track,
by any means, but it is better than "Fergalicious". And it has a good beat. B-

2. Nelly Furtado feat. Timbaland-Promiscuous: Finally, Furtado releases
a decent song. This and "Say It Right" are awesome tracks and I'm glad she
finally showed her dancier side. A

3. Pussycat Dolls feat. Snoop Dogg-Buttons: I hate all Pussycat Dolls
material, and this is no exception. As before, a guest performer always helps add strength to a song by the Dolls. C-(for Snoop Dogg).

4. Justin Timberlake feat. Timbaland-SexyBack: I love this song, even though it was overplayed. It just has an excellent hook and Timbaland is
great, too. This is GREAT. A++

5. Christina Aguilera-Ain't No Other Man: Some funky beats elevate an
otherwise average Aguilera song. So-so. C+

6. Beyonce feat. Jay-Z-Deja Vu: Like Aguilera's addition, some good beats
help this song, as does Jay's rapping. It's an okay song. B

7. Cherish feat. Sean Paul-Do It To It: This song is really annoying, but
now I've got it stuck in my head. Note: It's not the Sean Paul you think.
D

8. Kelis feat. Too Short-Bossy: This song is kind of funny and has a good
hook, so I like it fine. B+

9. Chingy feat. Tyrese-Pullin' Me Back: This is an okay Chingy song, since
he's not as annoying as he usually is, thanks to Tyrese. It has a good
backbeat, albeit a repetitive one. A

10. Lyfe Jennings feat. what's-her-name-S.E.X.: This is an average song,
at best. It's a little too slow for me. C

11. Ne-Yo-Sexy Love: This is an okay ballad, but that's all it is. Nothing
to get excited about. C

12. Rihanna-Unfaithful: This is a bad song, with an annoying chorus and
Rihanna's singing sounds disjointed. Ugh. D-

13. JoJo-Too Little Too Late: It's surprising to find teen pop on NOW again. Not that I really like it. C

14. Nick Lachey-I Can't Hate You Anymore: I don't think this was that big
a hit. It's not as good as "What's Left Of Me", and that song is pretty
bad, too. C-

15. Teddy Geiger-These Walls: I like this. It's heavier than "Confidence"
and Geiger sounds better on vocals this time around. Nice. A-

16. Jessica Simpson-A Public Affair: I like this song because of its
bouncy hook, but Simpson's voice gets annoying at points: A-

17. OK Go-Here It Goes Again: As you probably noticed, I am a rock fan,
and this song is very good. It's a great rock song, overall. A+

18. Hinder-Lips Of An Angel: I usually despise rock ballads, but this is
okay for its guitar solo and because the singer actually sounds sincere.
A

19. Nickelback-Far Away: This is a good ballad, too, even though it is
Nickelback and I usually don't like their stuff. A

20. Keith Urban-Tonight I Wanna Cry: I hate wuss country. F

This is a good NOW CD, even though none of them have been really bad.

4 out of 5 stars Good for your MP3 player.......2007-03-30

I just wanted a few chart songs to add to my MP3 player. This fit the bill. Of course it comes with the standard songs you have no interest in, but that's par for the course with these types of CDs.

4 out of 5 stars Good mix of music.......2007-02-17

This is another great CD in the Now series. Contains a good mix of all types of music and artisits.

4 out of 5 stars a little better.......2007-02-17

This Cd is actually a little better than the last one. But i noticed that a lot of the songs that are on here aren't even that popular, such as jessica simpson, ok go, kelis, beyonce, lyfe jennings, ne-yo, nick lachey, and teddy geiger. i like some of those songs, but why are they on now 23? here is my list of ratings for each song:

1. Fergie- London Bridge: I knew this song was going to be on here, even though she released "fergalicious" about a week before now 23 came out and this song was forgotton. 5/5

2. Nelly Furtado f/ Timbaland- Promiscuous: The sweet nelly furtado has turned promiscuously hip-hop. what a transformation. 5/5

3. Pussycat Dolls f/ Snoop Dogg- Buttons: this is the better version of this song because it has snoop dogg in it. on their album, he is absent from this song. 5/5

4 Justin Timberlake f/ Timbaland- Sexy Back: jt's comeback single. he claims to be "bringing sexy back", but did it ever leave? other than that, good song. great lyrics. 4/5

5. Christina Aguilera- Ain't No Other Man: I love this song, but not this version of it. they blocked out the "a" word and it ruins the song because not only does it block out the word, but it blocks out the entire "oh yeah" that she says in the background, which is sort of disapointing because that word is not supposed to be blocked out. 3/5 otherwise, 5/5

6. Beyonce f/ Jay-Z- Deja Vu: I like this song, but what is it doing on now 23? it isn't popular enough to be on the now 23. but she has a new single called "irreplaceable" that IS popular enough to be on now 24. 5/5

7. Cherish f/ Sean Paul OF THE YUNGBLOODZ, NOT THE JAMACIAN ONE!- Do It To It- I like this song, but they block out the "D" word in it. that's my only complaint. 4/5

8. Kelis f/ Too $hort- Bossy: im going to give this the same rating as "do it to it" for the exact same reason. 4/5

9. Chingy f/ Tyrese- Pulling Me Back: This song is kind of boring. it almost puts me to sleep. 2/5

10. Lyfe Jennings f/ Lala Brown- S.E.X.: what is this? never heard of it.
0/5

11. Ne-Yo- Sexy Love: seriously, how many songs on this cd have the word "sex" in the title? 3/5

12. Rihanna- Unfaithful: NOOOOO! this song is ruined! they blocked out the word "gun"! i hate the now people for that and i will never forgive them! -100/5 otherwise, 5/5

13. JOJO- Too Little Too Late: WOW! this girl is my age (16) and has a great voice. if she would have waited a little longer, she would probably done extremely well on American Idol. the only thing about this song is that it is overplayed, but i'm used to it. 4/5

14. Nick Lachey- I Can't Hate You Anymore: this song is NOT that popular and shouldn't be on the now. he is singing to jessica simpson. he needs to stop singing songs about her. 0/5

15. Teddy Geiger- These Walls: What's this? never heard it before. 0/5

16. Jessica Simpson- A Public Affair: They did this on purpose! they put nick and jessica on the same album to make fun of their divorce. i don't know why they did it, but it's not funny! anyway, great song. my favorite on the album. it kind of reminds me of madonna's "holiday". 5/5

17. OK Go- Here It Goes Again: Once again, another song that isn't popular enough to be on the nows. great video. they are dancing on treadmills. 3/5

18. Hinder- Lips Of An Angel: REALLY hard rock. a song about 2 lovers who broke up, but only halfway moved on. they both found a new lover, but they still love each other. although the tone of the chorus doesn't match what he's talking about, good song. 4/5

19. Nickelback- Far Away: Nickelback's 3rd single from their album "all the right reasons". this song is also overplayed, but i like it when i actually WANT to hear it. 4/5

20. Kenny Chesney- Summertime: What's this? never head of it because i don't listen to country. i hate country music because it's all the same, which makes it boring. the only good thing about this song is the name. i wish it WERE summertime. it's freezing outside! -5/5

Here are some suggestions for now 24:

1. Beyonce- Irreplaceable
2. Fergie- Fergalicious
3. Gwen Stefani f/ Akon- The Sweet Escape
4. Akon f/ Snoop Dogg- I Wanna Love You
5. Rihanna f/ Sean Paul- Break It Off
6. Paula Deanda- Walk Away (Remember Me)
7. Ludacris f/ Mary J Blige- Runaway Love
8. Justin Timberlake f/ T.I.- My Love
9. Ciara- Promise
10. Nelly Furtado- Say It Right
11. Christina Aguilera- Hurt
12. Rob Thomas- Street Corner Symphony
13. The Fray- How To Save A Life
14. Stone Sour- Through Glass
15. John Mayer- Waiting On The World To Change
16. Fall Out Boy-This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race
17. All-American Rejects- It Ends Tonight
18. Daughtry- It's Not Over

5 out of 5 stars Power of One.......2007-07-07

If you only buy this soundtrack for one song, it has to be "Power of One" by Bomshel. They're an up-and-coming country/rock duo who've taken a decidedly softer turn with "Power of One." It's a great song with an important message that reminds us that every single one of us, in our own small way, can make a difference. The rest of the soundtrack is amazing too; overall a great buy!

Lee Ann Womack may well have the most hard-country female voice in Nashville; while her first two albums showed much promise, they didn't boost her past the middle of the pack. So what's the Nashville solution? Instead of playing to her strengths, make her soprano sound smaller and more compact (think Dolly, not Tammy), de-twang it so she sounds more creamy and dreamy. In other words, try to make her sound more like everyone else. Most of these songs are slow or midtempo, building ever so predictably, and with arrangements paying little more than lip service to roots. Womack sounds better with less accompaniment ("I Know Why the River Runs," "Thinkin' with My Heart Again") and best when her drawl prevails ("Does My Ring Burn Your Finger"). And she sounds unbeatable when she's totally involved, as on the best song, "I Feel Like I'm Forgetting Something." And who cowrote that? Why, Lee Ann did. It's the only such song here, but somebody should take a hint. --John Morthland

Album Description

CMA winning album from the country music stars 2001 album. Includes the bonus track 'I Hope You Dance' (Brian Rawlings Mix). Billboard calls it 'the finest country album post Shania Twain'.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I Hope You Dance.......2007-05-13

I love this recording of I Hope You Dance and the philosophy of life to participate. This song is especially significant to me because a friend who was having surgery for an aneurysm had a celebration of his life and this was the song that we sang with him at the party before his surgery. He made an incredible recovery and is still with us.

5 out of 5 stars why they call it singin'.......2006-12-16

I remember the day my friend's young teenage daughter Lee Anne belted out a slightly off-key Karaoke version of her near namesake Lee Ann Womack's 'I Hope You Dance' and introduced me to this strong female Nashville voice. A quick trip to the music store later, I owned the DANCE cd, my first prolonged exposure to the somewhat more mainstream sound than is common both to previous and subsequent Womack offerings.

It's beautiful music, the critics be damned.

The title track gives durable counsel that nicely balances the countrified pathos of other songs, like the mellifluous and touching 'Stronger Than I Am'.

Truth is, there's not a mediocre track on this album, thanks to some solid if predictable accompaniment, witty writing, and Womack's ever agreeable voice.

Even songs that threaten to plod ('I Know Why the River Runs') come alive when the singer's crescendoing surge rises to meet the track laid down by the base and percussion. Each track comes alive in its own way.

Purists long for more twang. But this is solid, soulful, mainstream country.

5 out of 5 stars The Lyrics Say It ALL.... Here's Hoping You ALL Dance.......2006-09-30

This song is appropriate anywhere - graduation, baptism, wedding, funeral, birthday....

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that youll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance....i hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin might mean takin chances but theyre worth takin,
Lovin might be a mistake but its worth makin,
Dont let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance....i hope you dance.
I hope you dance....i hope you dance.
(time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that youll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance....i hope you dance.
I hope you dance....i hope you dance.
I hope you dance....i hope you dance..
(time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone

5 out of 5 stars Easy listening country.......2005-07-09

When Lee Ann released her debut album, she was acclaimed as the new standard bearer for traditional country music. Her second album reinforced that status but this third album finds Lee Ann moving towards an easy-listening style although this is still essentially a country album. Following this album, Lee Ann made a significant step away from country with her next two albums (one of which was a Christmas album) but then returned to her roots with a much more traditional country album. Thus, Lee Ann has tried various styles but her wonderful voice always sounds great.

The big hit here is, of course, I hope you dance, which crossed over to the American pop charts and even became a minor UK hit - no mean achievement in an era when country singles rarely become big pop hits. Apart from I hope you dance, there are many other great songs here including I feel like I'm forgetting something (a great up-tempo song to get those toes tapping), Lonely too (an excellent ballad written by Bruce Robison, a brilliant singer-songwriter), Lord I hope this day is good (a cover of a Don Williams classic), Does my ring burn your finger (written by Buddy and Judy Miller, an under-rated folk-country duo), Ashes by now (a cover of Rodney Rowell song) and Why they call it falling (a brilliant ballad).

This high-quality album should still please most traditional country fans, if not quite as much as Lee Ann's first two albums, while also pleasing fans of contemporary country.

5 out of 5 stars The Complete Piano Music of Scott Joplin.......2007-06-08

John Arpin does a great job with these pieces. The songs carry a consistent sound and are played very close to as-written, which comes and goes with old ragtime pieces. The stamping on Stop-Time Rag doesn't have a consistent sound to it, can be a little distracting. Everything else is great, overall I think that it's a great buy, I'm very happy with it.

2 out of 5 stars Another Performer Rewrites Joplin's Masterpieces.......2007-05-31

Once again, another performer feels the need to rewrite the music of the King of Ragtime. Scott Joplin spins in his grave each and every time this recording is played.

Again, to those who believe that concert music is meant to be rewritten by each and every performer I ask, is the same treatment also acceptable for Chopin's and Rachmaninoff's music? Would "Moonlight Sonata" sound better if played at twice the tempo and with a reprise of the first Adagio movement thrown in at the end? Obviously, the answer to these questions is a resounding NO!, so why does one of America's greatest composers get such disrespect?

Interpretation is an integral part of every performance. Adding one's own notes, phrases and chords where none should be is not. Randomly changing the structure of the piece is not. Playing a piece at twice the indicated tempo is not.

One the plus side, the depth of this collection is outstanding. Joplin's lesser known pieces like "Harmony Club Waltz" really shine. The recording is decent in quality, although a bit bassy in places.

While its been stated before, I feel its worth repeating: Buy Joshua Rifkin's performances of Joplin in order to hear how the Master intended his pieces to sound.

4 out of 5 stars complete piano music of Scott Joplin on 4 CD's.......2007-02-14

Although all of the music is terrific it is rather a lot of a similar sound. I think I would have preferred 2 CD's of selected piano works of Scott Joplin. But I did get the music at a good price.

5 out of 5 stars Ragtime Marvel.......2005-10-09

This collection of Scott Joplin's piano music is outstanding. As a lover of ragtime which was a prelude to jazz, I am thoroughly enjoying this collection. If you are not a lover of jazz, you may be a lover of ragtime. Jazz can sometimes be grating on the nerves, whereas ragtime lifts the spirit.

3 out of 5 stars Complete, but poor quality.......2005-09-25

I have been learning some ragtime and wanted to hear more to find other selections to learn. Listened to Maple Leaf Rag, my favorite, first and was disappointed. Listened to others and was more disappointed. Maple flies - much faster than anyone would play it, you can't make out some of the phrases. And talk about ad libs - Tempo, dynamics, embelishments, nuances - I really think he plays some wrong notes too because he's going so fast. It's really a poor recording - and that's just on Maple Leaf. Others with "intros" start quick and then there's a grand pause, not a rest, but nearly a five second break. It's hard to argue how Joplin would have played it, but this is hardly anything I want to try to imitate. The only qualitating factor is the number of songs for the price. A lot of variety of a poor interpretation is only worth 3 stars. if that. Look for Rifkin or a copy that is as written to listen to first, then go for the ad libs and "artistic interpretations"

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation.......2007-02-05

Good cd that combines a great variety of songs onto one cd. Much better than buying a bunch of cd's just for that one song that you like.

5 out of 5 stars To the point.......2007-01-09

This CD gets right to the matter, the hits just like you want to hear them no fraud no filler, just the hits!

3 out of 5 stars Not So Great.......2007-01-07

When I first saw the advertising for this Cd I thought it was going to be great, but I quickly realized I was wrong. The majority of songs on Now 22 are the hits from 2006 that were overplayed, and a lot of the songs are rap, which I hate. The only songs worth listening to on here are Rihanna's S.O.S.,The Fray's Over My Head, K.T. Tunstall's Black Horse and The Cherry Tree, Saving Jane's Girl Next Door, and The All American Rejects Move Along.

4 out of 5 stars Now 22 CD.......2007-01-04

This is my daughters and i believe she likes it and plays it on occasion.

4 out of 5 stars Kids of the world, don't buy the CD!.......2006-12-10

Now That's What I Call Music! 22 is very good. Just one thing. The CD is very innapropriet. I got the CD on September 22 [my birthday] and my mom put the CD in the car so I got to listen to it. My mom almost took it away from me. So adults who has kids that likes music, don't buy it for them!

5 out of 5 stars the boys from Logo finally get a single release.......2007-06-29

The gay twin brothers who made it big on Logo with their own reality show about coming out while pursuing a recording career have finally released their first single. And no, it is not a cover version of the classic Sparks new wave synth track. It's an original, and it is produced by none other than writer/producer Desmond Child, an openly gay man who was responsible for a whole lot of songs on Cher's 1980s come back rock albums. Here, though, it's ALL about the dance music. The blend of mixes goes from disco house to tribal to my favorite, the electro pop house Dave Aude mix. Tracks are:

1. soul seekers mix (7:16)

2. dave aude mixshow (5:58)

3. bronleewe & bose mix (5:53)

4. tracy young extended club mix (6:49)

5. tracy young extended video mix (6:51)

6. almighty mix (6:41)

When I played this I just got happy. What an eclectic mix of great songs. Not unlike the show.

4 out of 5 stars Cool crazy tunes -no pruning required!.......2007-01-09

Geat CD filled with cool and crazy tunes you are unlikely to hear anywhere else. It lost a star for me for two reasons-I prefer the original version of "little boxes" and am not a great fan of cover versions, and secondly because there is one track I dislike enough that I skip over it every time-a strangely dicordant and jarring anomaly considering the other great music selected for this album. I own both WEEDS original soundtrack CD's and spin them endlessly!

Album Description

Spirited new sounds from across the sea to the shores of the New Land. From the first colonists to the American Revolution and the birth of our republic Hesperus Early Music Ensemble's music reflects a time of new ideas, freedom and vitality. In town and village, parlor and ballroom, from the Appalachians to the great concert halls hear the musical pulse of early American music performed on a wide variety of folk and early music instruments. Includes: lively country-dance tunes, evocative Shape Note Hymns, old time Appalachian fiddle tunes, graceful European parlor music, French cotillions, divisions and improvisations. Introduction -The English Colonies in America were a patchwork-not just of territories whose boundaries became state lines, but of people from different places and classes with widely different values and experiences. This recording presents music from that patchwork; from England, the Colonial homeland; Scotland and Ireland, the homes of the largest groups of immigrants outside England; and France, the ally of the Patriots, and music written in the United States. More recordings by HESPERUS from Maggie's Music are Celtic Roots featuring Scottish fiddler, Bonnie Rideout and Early American Roots. Hesperus Ensemble is THE sought after musical group for period music that is both authentic, and most important fun, lively and spirited. They are frequent performers at the Smithsonian's Institute of American Music and can be heard on the soundtrack or the Paramount film with Johnny Depp entitled Sleepy Hollow! Excerpts from liner notes:2.A Set of English Country Dance Tunes: Maiden Lane, Jack O'Lent, Chestnut, Bonny Broom - The visionary London music publisher John Playford first published his English Dancing Master in 1651. It was reprinted 18 times over the next 77 years and is still popular today. 3. Parting Friends/Primrose - These tunes have come down to us in choral arrangements called shape-note hymns .

5 out of 5 stars GREAT!.......2007-05-20

This cd travels everywhere with me and you can easily imagine a ball at Monticello given by Mr. Jefferson when you hear it.
Try not to daydream too much while driving as i had done several times..lol..it's hard not to with this cd..:)
Perfect for a colonial reenactment or party.

5 out of 5 stars A relaxing journey into our Colonial past.......2006-03-16

I bought this CD to provide me with another dimension to my studies of period events. It truly contains a wealth of music, and takes it place as an important addition to my musical library. Living in the Mt Vernon area, I often travel with the CD playing while visiting historical places, and it provides a wonderful companion to "set the mood" for the myriad locations in the area. The quality of the sound is remarkable, the musicians superb, and the breadth of song selection provides a musical landscape for the period. Highly recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!.......2004-03-04

I first heard the "Colonial America" CD by Hesperus when I visited Monticello recently (the home of Thomas Jefferson) where they were playing the songs in the gift shop. Imagine my dismay to find that only one cassette tape was left of the fabulous music of Hesperus; however, that tape held me spell-bound all the way home, from Virginia to North Carolina.

It was an incredible journey from the past that has stayed with me since, and every day I drive that one hour back and forth to work. This music has changed everything about the trips, and I can't wait for more.

Thanks to Amazon.com I was able to buy all three CD's, including "Early American Roots," "Colonial America" and the incredible "Celtic Roots" with the most beautiful violas imaginable.

Thank you Hesperus! Please play more!

5 out of 5 stars Cold Mountain type music that's great.......2003-11-15

Novels and movies like Cold Mountain, Oh Brother Where Art Thou? and Song Catchers are showing the growing interest in traditional music and this recording hits the mark. It is music from the days of early America--the time when the first colonists come to America. You can hear the fiddle playing tunes still popular in the Appalachian mountains today and also hear shape note music arranged by Hesperus as wonderful instrumentals. The music takes you to a time when folks were making music in their homes-before TV, before the internet! This recording is good for teachers or educational purposes too- with informative liner notes. All the music is played on folk and early music instruments and it's lively and an enjoyable listen.
