Lovely Lyrics.......2000-11-21
Wow, what evocative songwriting! Ms. Shuffield has a knack for writing lyrics that bring to life the open spaces of the West, and for locating her own life in that landscape. Check out "She Ain't No EmmyLou Harris," "Banks of the Colorado," and the title track - my personal favorites. All her songs are delivered in a sweetly expressive style with melodies so lovely, you'll find yourself humming her tunes all day long. A great debut - I can't wait for the next one.

I came upon this CD when a friend loaned me a copy. I immediately bought a copy for myself. Shuffield is the rare singer-songwriter whose singing is the equal of her writing -- and on many of the tracks, she is joined by the lovely voice of a woman I have since learned is her sister. All in all, it's a remarkable debut, one that I've not removed from my CD player in months. Try "She Ain't No Emmylou Harris" for a spirited but poignant ballad, and "Banks of the Colorado" for a beautiful evocation of the land the artist clearly loves.
