Hard not to rave.......2003-05-14
It's hard not to rave about all these As Good As It Gets sets. For someone new to the styles, each two-disc collection is like a trip to a strange new world. Well-chosen selection of great, past stars and their hits, and an ideal way to get started collecting, listening. The name "Hillbilly" is a rather ambiguous one, and some have found it insulting, but now, with Country, Honky Tonk, Bluegrass, Old Timey, etc, all designating distinct (yet often overlapping) categories, it's as useful as any.

Born on the dusty plains of Texas and Oklahoma, western swing melded elements of country, western, blues, pop and jazz music into a catchy, lively, danceable sound. These are the original songs performed by the original artists, mostly recorded in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
Even if you've never heard these songs before, they'll sound familiar because their impact has been so widespread. Before Elvis Presley ever swiveled his hips, Carl Perkins put on his blue suede shoes or Jerry Lee Lewis pounded on the keyboards, they listened to - and were influenced by - the sounds featured on "As Good As it Gets." Listen a while, and you'll find yourself smiling, tapping your feet and singing along.

None of this re-recorded junk; all original, historic recordings; just what the serious collector demands. A great mix of artists, too.
