Though released on Checkered Past, one of the finest alternative-country labels going, the Schramms' fourth CD is not-so-simply gorgeous guitar-based rock. The arrangements alone are thrilling and inspired, shot through with Dave Schramm's flowing electric and acoustic guitars, his tone somehow lush and gritty at once, and filled with the expert organ work of George Usher. Schramm can't really sing, but he has no pretentions for it, delivering suggestive, well-crafted lines like "Everybody has their reasons / Little sympathies and treasons / Everybody knows a stranger's song" in a dry, deadpan monotone. The band tells the rest of the story, tearing through each number with the melodic sweetness and backbeat toughness of heroes like Green on Red or the Long Ryders. --Roy Kasten

Album Description
Album number four by the Schramms blends more rock and pop into their already well defined folk and poetry trademark sound. Starting with the melodic Seven Horses, the band takes the listener on a dare devil trip from the beautiful "Dizzy Spell" and to the emotional "Tell Me Again and Again" to the bombastic "Heal Me Now" and settles back down to the simple and quiet "If I Were". You have to listen.Album Review:
