It all starts with a cowbell, so at least you know it's not going to suck. This is important because, at times, the Sounds' 2003 debut, Living in America felt like a third-generation copy of Blondie's Eat to the Beat and a third-generation of anything usually sucks. But this follow-up shows improvement all around. Singer Maja Ivarsson is starting to find her own voice and the group's melodies now owe less to playground chants than actual verses and choruses. Meanwhile producer Jeff Saltzman, the man behind the Killers' blockbuster Hot Fuss, has given the band's, er, sound some much needed low end. You could accuse them of still sounding a bit contrived (just one word describes the track "Ego"--yikes!) but with thrilling New Wave throwbacks such as "Tony the Beat" and "Running Out of Turbo" pumping on the stereo you might be having too much fun to bother. --Aidin Vaziri
Album Description
The Sounds' 2003 debut, "Living In America" firmly established the band as one to watch. Their second release is an even stronger fusion of their punk attitude and pop savvy. Honed by a sonic brain trust that includes producer Jeff Saltzman (who helmed The Killers' "Hot Fuss"), with additional production from Scratchie Records co-owners James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle) and Adam Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne, Ivy), and mixer Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Hole), the album presents a diversified and deeper version of the sound they established on their debut. It also showcases their growth and captures the attitude that has won over crowd after crowd. Limited first pressing with bonus remixes and video content.
Customer Reviews:
Pretty good.......2007-03-26
I actually preferred the previous effort. But this remains very good new wave influenced pop rock. It has much more drive than most other groups with the same tag.
Thank god for I-Pods - the cd would be worn out by now.......2007-03-11
LOVE the first half of the album, though some of the songs in the second half aren't quite up there with Song With a Mission, Queen of Apology and Tony the Beat...I've also seen interviews with the lead singer and guitarist; they are truly dedicated to giving awesome performances for their audience. Overall, a very catchy album that changes it up enough to keep the listener entertained, and they're a band that I will definitely start to keep track of...
Awesome band .......2007-01-19
Love the band and this CD. You must see them live!
The Sounds.......2006-12-14
I saw this band live at a concert. They were the opening act and i wasn't expecting them to be that good. A lead female vocalist is surprising to see as well. Since then i have been addicted to them. First impression is that they have The killers kind of sound to them but definately with songs that are better and a singer who doesn't sound depressed.
Don't believe in what they say and what you've always been told.......2006-08-13
The Sounds have caught a bad rap due in part to Maja, which I don't get, and due to their unoriginality. Few bands are 100% original nowadays, at least The Sounds are fun and easy to listen to. I bought this on a hunch. I had heard all the trash talked and I heard some good things, so in the end, like everything else, it comes down to what your preferences are. The Sounds are probably an acquired taste, which I can understand, and as much as I hate pushing a band on someone, The Sounds seems to have a lot going for them on this release and I think many people will find a lot to appreciate about it.
Song With A Mission starts off the CD wonderfully with a catchy guitar intro and some interesting lyrics acompanying. Tony The Beat has a danceable beat and a great chorus. Painted By Numbers offers a refreshing look back at 80s pop thanks to the intro, and as always, Maja drives the song. Night After Night is *gasp* a ballad. If you hate Maja's voice you'll hate this song. Even I, a fan of her, get a bit agitated with this song from time to time, but it does sound sincere and the backing piano is a nice touch. Hurt You gets back into the 80s pop kind of feel, and is prodiminently sung by a male. Much Too Long is yet another standout which follows in the vein of Song With A Mission and Painted By Numbers respectively.
My favorite songs are Song With A Mission, Tony The Beat, Painted By Numbers, Much Too Long, and Running Out Of Time. The Sounds are by far the most invigorating band I've heard recently and revitalized my hunger for new bands. Compared to Living In America, I'd say the two even each other out. Living In America has it's moments that shock and awe and so does Dying To Say This To You, so the curse of the sophomore slump doesn't effect The Sounds on this outing.

Front Line Assembly reclaimed its throne last year with the release of "Artificial Soldier" and a world tour. Not wanting to rest on their laurels, the band is prepping for a second assault. "Fallout" features three new tracks and nine remixes and has been deemed to cause exhaustion from excessive dancing, hearing loss from listening to it too loud, and vertigo from its mind-blowing musical sequences.

Based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, director Nick Cassavetes film spins the bittersweet tale of a 60-year romance, as seen from the polar perspectives of its promising youth and the travails of an old age cursed by Alzheimer's. Its soundtrack effectively echoes those polar dramatic concerns, with composer Aaron Zigler's gentle orchestral score largely giving voice to the character's melancholy present, while a rich, well-chosen slate of vintage material by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller imparts a restless energy to their youth. There's a certain schmaltz to much of Zigman's work here, yet cues like "House Blues/The Porch Dance.." and "Noah's Journey" argue he's achieved something more elusive than mere melodramatic wallpaper with the deceivingly difficult task at hand; it can't be easy to have your work seasoned with the likes of Ellington's sassy "Alabamy Home" and Goodman's still-vibrant "One O'Clock Jump." Sharply contrasting versions of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Holiday and Jimmy Durante bookend the soundtrack, perfectly evoking the story's alternating shades of hope and fading nostalgia and framing Zigman's understated work in the bargain. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Based on the best selling novel by Nicholas Sparks ("A Walk To Remember", "Message In A Bottle"), "The Notebook" is the story of Noah and Allie, teenage lovers torn apart by WWII and Allie's parents' demands to marry a respectable lawyer. After 14 years apart, they meet again and rekindle their true love. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands. The soundtrack is a propelling force. In addition to classic WWII era pieces, Aaron Zigman's score suites enhance the record with beautifully dramatic themes. Score performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony.
Customer Reviews:
Pays music a complement. I love the classical pieces!.......2007-05-27
I do not have the soundtrack to The Notebook, but I do have the movie itself. Having said that, every song is wonderful. Some music carries with it, a wealth of emotion and a sense of timelessness. I love all of the classical pieces , perhaps the best, in this particular movie. Classical has never been my speed when it comes down to music, but something about this movie's classical masterpieces struck a chord in me...made me smile and maybe even sniffle a bit. If you are a fan of the movie, I'm sure you would love its soundtrack too. Music like this is ideal for a romantic evening or just for pleasure listening. You don't know if you'll like something until you give it a chance! So give this a chance!!
the Notebook soundtrack (Audio CD).......2007-05-13
This is a beautiful collection of music from the movie, The Notebook. Most is instrumental, very relaxing, as well as lively at times. Two renditions of "I'll Be Seeing You" are included.
Very Nice.......2007-03-30
I really enjoyed listening to the soundtrack, but I'm also a big fan of background music and this cd was great for both. Listening to the cd took me back to the movie and reminded me how much I enjoyed it, but I also put the cd on during a nice meal with friends and it worked out very well, they all enjoyed the music.
A sweeping, emotional standout!.......2007-01-11
The music from The Notebook brings you right back to the film, capturing your heart and soul. It's music will roll live waves through your soul and bring you from nostalgia to your own feelings of love and desire. The selections, arrangements and orchestrations are to be admired, and Mr. Zigman is to be praised. This soundtrack truly completes the legacy of "The Notebook".
The Notebook ~ CD.......2006-11-10
I absolutely LOVED the movie and enjoyed the music in it soooooooo much that I wanted more.

Director William Friedkin knows a thing or two about innovative, genre-bending film scores. He commissioned edgy modern-jazz player Don Ellis for his classic The French Connection and reworked Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" into the haunting soundtrack for the blockbuster The Exorcist. But even veteran film buffs were surprised when Friedkin turned the scoring chores for his taut 1985 forgery-ring thriller To Live and Die in LA over to British pop stars Wang Chung. Though they're still best known for their perennial rock-of-the-'80s hits "Dancehall Days," "Everybody Have Fun Tonight," and "Let's Go," Friedkin's early admiration for the band's often underrated musicality paid off with a tense, rhythmic soundscape that crystallized the era and locale of the film. And, though synth-pop has gained ill repute as a cheesy 1980s cliché, this album ably proves that it could rise above its stereotype in dramatic fashion. The Jack Hues-sung title track was also a minor pop hit. --Jerry McCulley

History's already shown that the self-proclaimed master of "bad taste" has always had impeccably good taste, even at his most extreme. A large part of the reason that his aesthetic has had a real and unabated influence since the early 1970s is that there's nothing forced or ironic about his approach to film-making, including the soundtracks to his movies, which the director terms "little-known, weird vintage music." Waters says that the selections on A Date are "all romantic seduction music I would play if I had you over." Naturally, it's an off-kilter patchwork selection; most folks would not try to seduce someone with either an Ike & Tina Turner number or "Sometimes I Wish I Had a Gun," sung by Waters habitué Mink Stole. The collection is fun and veers from mellow crooners and hopped-up rhythm and blues to forgotten rocker hits from the '50s ("Tonight You Belong to Me" by Patience and Prudence) and '70s ("Jet Boy Jet Girl" by Elton Motello). If the collection sells well, the director promises to bring you Breaking Up with John Waters, as if you needed another reason to buy this one. --Mike McGonigal

Michael Bennett's 1975 tale of Broadway's gypsies--the chorus dancers--resonated with audiences as few shows ever have, examining with both hilarity and heartbreak the grueling life of ordinary performers always auditioning for an opportunity to be members of a faceless chorus line. And along the way, it picked up the Pulitzer, the New York Drama Critics Award, and nine Tonys, and became the longest-running show in Broadway history. The original cast (eight of whom contributed their real-life memories to the show) included no major stars, but are unmatched on this cast recording of Marvin Hamlisch and Edward Kleban's score, including Priscilla Lopez's poignant "Nothing," Donna McKechnie's yearning dance number "The Music and the Mirror," one of Broadway's most famous torch ballads in "What I Did for Love," and the ultimate high-kicking chorus number, "One." Fans of the show will welcome the 1998 remastered CD, which adds two and a half minutes to "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love." While still incomplete, the montage now includes "Four-foot ten," "Little brat," and "The worst thing in school...." --David Horiuchi

Album Description
The best FLA release the electronic industrial community has seen in over a decade. Heavy pounding beats, atmospheric strings, percolating melodies, dynamic synths, and Bill Leeb's trademark vocals couldn't be fused together any tighter if you tried to do it at an atomic level. As if all those factors weren't enough, two guest vocalists appear: Eskil Simonsson from Covenant and Jean-Luc De Meyer from Front 242.
