Editorial Reviews
Face The Music - New Release Profiles By Rick Teverbaugh / The Herald Bulletin
"This woman... is nothing short of amazing. To listen to this album is to experience all that is truly good about the singer/songwriter genre. This music can be produced by an individual without getting approval from a lot of record company folks with cookie-cutter mentalities. Lori B has taken advantage of the fact that she needed to please mostly herself to do just that and to please even the most discriminating listener in the process. The disc's title refers to the fact that she was born in the wake of a hurricane, but it can also describe the effect the music will have on anyone it touches. It touched me. I listened to the disc several times trying to believe that it really wasn't this good. But it is. Buy it, please!"

Product Description
Eccentric, contemporary, bred-in-the-bone folk. A visionary of the heart with a bittersweet sting, the songs are spare and poetic, like simple golden threads. Lori B's music is unapologetically emotional and radically intimate.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I listen to this nearly every day..........2003-10-19

This album is so exquisite, so PERSONAL, I love it. It's basically just her pure voice and a guitar. She is entirely unlike anyone I've ever heard before, earthy, vulnerable, utterly honest. This is also one of my husband's favorite albums, odd, because other than Eva Cassidy we have entirely different tastes in music. This is one of those albums that sounds better each time you listen to it, until it insinuates itself into your very soul. It's very "still", haunting, and yet immediate. I've given it to everyone I know as a gift and they all love it as much as I. The lyrics are phenomenal. I can hardly wait for her next one!

5 out of 5 stars Can't wait for her next one..........2003-08-07

I met Lori B in 1998 but first heard her live at a small show in Seattle, and was amazed at her ability to hold the crowd with her raspy voice and phenomenal lyrics. She's quite the unique personality, and in one CD, she moves from whimsical to heart-felt with songs that touch your soul. I have turned so many friends on to her music, but it doesn't take much for her sound to get inside and lift you away. I love Lori B's folky yet fun tunes, and look forward to her next CD Shadows of Love!

5 out of 5 stars haunting.......2003-05-29

Every now and then one has the good fortune of stumbling upon a musical gem - a piece of music that touches, reveals and inspires. Hurricane Child is such an album. It is intensely intimate, at times perhaps painfully so; yet it reaches into depths whose haunting beauty and terror are known to us all. These depths are the wellspring of true aliveness and Lori has dived deep into the well to bring us gems of existential insight. Body Mine, for example, is an absolutely brilliant song, a song that celebrates the emancipation of the body from the oppressive influence of the Other. Our Body is our Temple, and how can we love in this world, if we are detached from our bodies, if we do not love them with passion and kindness and forgiveness? Is That You is another beautiful one, it is a poem celebrating relationship between the mother and her daughter ...

Lori's music is simple, profound and sweet. If you want to celebrate being a human, you can't miss with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Honest Music.......2001-12-01

I was so moved by my first listening of this amazing album. The entire album is a careful, simple, lovely piece of artwork. From the personal stories told through her thoughtful lyrics to the amazing artwork on the album, this is a singer songwriter that you should not miss. This brave, stripped down recording is a rare find these days. (...)

5 out of 5 stars Listen with your heart.......2000-07-13

I was not familiar with Lori B's music, but recently caught her as the opening act for Rose Polenzani at Uncommon Ground in Chicago. She was incredible! The musical accompaniment she provided on guitar and toy piano was spare, but her voice and words were powerful in their intelligence and straightforward simplicity. She also has an amazing head of long, red hair! I met her afterward and found her to be warm and sincere. She signed her CD with the words, "Listen in the dark. Listen with your heart." I haven't turned the lights off yet, but it's impossible not to listen with one's heart to this wonderful artist as she takes you on an emotional journey through love, despair, humor, and hope.
