Thank fans for this completist's dream: they petitioned the remaining members of the Sublime, a decade after Bradley Nowell's death by misadventure, to disgorge this collection of rarities, outtakes, and unreleased material. While a little overwhelming in its sheer volume, it deftly illustrates what a compelling shape-shifter Nowell was, even during his most discombobulated and boozy moments. Those unvarnished moments are captured here--taken from backstage parties, live radio shows, and their very first demos--along with some of the bands' more formed moments, whether sharing a stage with Gwen Stefani or being remixed by Long Beach crony Snoop Dogg before he became Top Dogg. Whether channeling the acerbic and fearless sound of Bad Brains (H.R. appears here on a cover of his "Shame in Dem Game"), duplicating the vocal idiosyncrasies and guitar angst of Jimi Hendrix on a song like "Voodoo (Part 2)," or inhabiting the righteous ire of "Catch a Fire" Bob Marley, this collection is a sonic history of a band in the process of becoming one the more seminal purveyors of ska punk, and multiplatinum artists as a result. An evolutionary history, really, this exhaustive collection includes some rather revelatory film footage, including an impish MTV interview prior to their Warped Tour appearance and another one conducted in tandem with Washington, D.C., hardcore avatars Minor Threat. --Jaan Uhelszki

5 out of 5 stars Just Plain Awesome........2007-06-18

I've been a long time Sublime fan, ever since their self titled album came out back in '96. A good amount of these songs I've heard but a few I haven't. This is a great collection to have for any hardcore Sublime fan.

On a side note; listening to these songs really makes you sad to realize how talented Brad and the band actually were, and what they could have became.

5 out of 5 stars FYI, the next review..........2007-06-15

was by a guy who reviews Michael Bolton and Chicago albums. Apparently he was disappointed in some of them. Therefore I wouldn't base whether I get this boxset or not on his 1 star review here. I guess I could give him a break beacuse he does like Greenday... oh wait... Greenday sucks too.

As for this boxset, I actually haven't heard it yet but am interested and wanted to see if it was any good when I came across this guy's post. Had to say soemthing. Michael Bolton...seriously????

1 out of 5 stars WHY ?.......2007-05-28

For a band that had a couple of hits. 3 records. Why is there a boxset. Sublime is the most overated band ever. The singer died, so what. He was junky. They were just a stoner band with one okay album. a 4 disk boxset is too much. This band has more greatest hits albums than studio albums.

5 out of 5 stars Sublime...at their best!.......2007-05-14

One of the best albums EVER released! A must have for a true Sublime fan!

5 out of 5 stars Sublime Box DVD Easter Egg.......2007-04-26

Check out the two easter eggs on the boxset's DVD, live versions of "Pool Shark" and "DJ".

To access "DJ," on the Main Menu keep the highlight on the option for 'Roll It' and press the arrow keys on your DVD remote in this order: Right, Down, Left, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up. This will automatically play the clip.

To access "Pool Shark," on the second menu page for 'The Cuts' put the highlight on "Main Menu" and press the arrow keys on your DVD remote in this order: Right, Left, Right, Left, Up, Up, Down, Down. This will change the highlight to the color green and then press the Enter/OK button on your remote to access it.

And if you haven't taken the time to notice, each menu is a full-length song, bonus tracks in their own right.

2 out of 5 stars Not My Style.......2007-05-11

This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

5 out of 5 stars Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Western Music.......2005-07-29

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

5 out of 5 stars A great follow-up.......2003-08-29

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

By the time the title track's triumphant riff chime-growls out midway through Under the Big Black Sun, the listener has already been through the most wrenching sequence of X songs yet assembled. After the thumping bike-club anthem "The Hungry Wolf" opens this 1982 major-label debut, its tough-ass romanticism is quickly plowed under by memories of a motel bed "with rubber sheets" and two heartrending songs about Exene Cervenka's sister Mirielle, who'd been killed in a car crash. In fact, even without "Blue Spark," this would easily qualify as the group's most indigo record yet; the second half offers a lovingly surf-music-tinged remake of an old Tin Pan Alley tune, "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes" and "The Have Nots," whose alcohol-soaked social comment clings so fiercely to mournfulness that hardly a wisp of punk anger can take hold. Rootsier than X's previous albums, Sun updates noirish dread with guitar wisdom. This remaster includes five bonus tracks, including the original mix of their Jerry Lee Lewis cover "Breathless." --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic - and re-release is even better.......2007-01-13

An amazing band's finest hour. X delves into a deep range of emotions on this album, and I personally can't get enough. Buying it on CD a few years ago was wonderful enough, but these re-releases are absolutely essential. Only one day after hearing it for the first time, I am unable to imagine "Riding With Mary" without the bonus version's fantastic added piano line. Stunning work. "Blue Spark" and "Hungry Like The Wolf" turn up the heat, and their talent shines more than before on songs like "Motel Room In My Bed," "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" and the addictively melancholy "Come Back To Me." Crystal-clear production and songs that will dig into your brain and refuse to let go.

5 out of 5 stars Fierce and Flawless.......2005-08-25

If Fleetwood Mac swallowed the Sex Pistols, it might sound like X. A unique combination of clever pop-rock song craft and genuine punk bite distinguishes all of X's recordings, and nowhere is this asset more apparent than on their masterpiece, "Under the Big Black Sun." Song for song, this Ray Manzarek-produced set boasts an abundance of infectious, guitar-driven hooks (courtesy of Billy Zoom), Bonebrake's kicking drums, and--perhaps most distinctive of all--beguiling vocal harmonies between rock-and-roll's most tumultuous husband and wife team, Jon Doe and Excene Cervenka. And while the band plied the same market as Black Flag and The Clash, X's "Under the Big Black Sun" pays generous tribute to Jerry Lee Louis, Bo Diddley, and Buddy Holley--with a little Patsy Cline thrown in for good measure. The resulting mix isn't as much eclectic as it is electric.

Rock music would be impoverished without the driving dissonance of "The Hungry Wolf," the tense thrill of "Blue Spark," or the thrashing menace of "Real Child of Hell." In fact, praise could be heaped upon every song here. If the album lacks anything, it is a weakness.

A must-buy-record for any rock-n-roller and a highly-recommended purchase for twentysomething fans of new music. It's astonishing how little this music has aged in the last twenty five years.

4 out of 5 stars The Finest LA Band ever.......2005-07-25

I love X and love most all of their albums. For some reason, this one fell under my radar, having listen to the rest of the catatlog. I put it on and could not stop listening to every track. It's simply a great rock album and showcases the considerable talent of each and every member of the band. The first two albums, which are great, are more raw and greener. This is refined X and all the better for it.

5 out of 5 stars Exene comes forward as the star.......2004-06-07

The first album by this band was awesome raw and defined the LA punk scene -it has it's place. Their second album Wild Gift got all the critics praise and showed that a truly great band can still be edgy and punk one year later. This is their third effort and the times have changed for the band and their fans. Exene's words are powerful and haunting and real. She sends chills down your spine with the thought of God choosing the next one to take this friday"which one will he save for this friday/ you can put him in a fish pond/ and watch him swim around/ then have a catholic dinner."Sheer poetry and grief-she learned to sing on this record too, which changed their sound and probably maked thier downfall as producers couldn't quite seem to capture their talent the way live recordings would after. You should own all of their stuff and I wouldn't recommend this as the first one to get but for this fan it is my most treasured. I grew and cried listening to Exene and Johnie and this took me places at a time other music didn't

5 out of 5 stars Should have called it "Greatest Hits"........2005-09-07

Wow. I've been an RK fan for a while now, but I actually picked up their most recent album "Wicked Twisted Road" before this one. I liked it so well that I had to check this one out. The only problem is trying to decide which one to listen to- they're both that good. If you're into this kind of music at all (americana, alt-country, roots-rock) you'll no doubt soon be calling this your favorite band. Even if you're not into those genres, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. Every song's a winner, but if I had to choose favorites I'd go with "Vancouver" and "Desolation Angels". Pick this one up.

5 out of 5 stars Hits The Sweet Spot.......2004-09-30

This is one of the best albums of the new millenium. Some songs are simple and straightforward like "You Don't Want Me Around", "Nobody's Girl" & "May Peace Find You Tonight" and others tell stories of life on the road like "Desolation Angels" & my favorite "Vancouver". The songwriting is top shelf. The music is mostly about the blending of guitars. They use a little of everything; acoustic, electric, mandolins, lap steel, etc. It reminds me a little of Los Lobos at their best when they use like 5 or 6 guitars on every song. The guitars never get in the way of the vocals however. This is a nice job of production by Ray Kennedy, one of the best in the biz.

It may be a little too country for some alt-country fans and not mainstream country enough for that crowd but for most folks, I think this should hit the sweet spot. A great record!

5 out of 5 stars They just keep getting better.......2004-07-12

I began listening to Reckless Kelly in 1998. I thought their first album "Millican" was excellent and had trouble taking it out of my CD player. Aside from the Mermaid Avenue discs, I thought it was one of the better alt-country CDs of the late 1990s. After numerous times listening to their sophomore effort "The Day" I begrudgingly admitted to myself that I enjoyed it even more. "Under the Table" raised the bar even more. Although they have always seemed talented beyond their years, the level of musicianship and songwriting took a noticable leap with this disc. They seem to have matured (no signs of anything like Crazy Eddie's Last Hurrah and Time Bomb, great songs though they are) and yet they still seem to not be taking themselves too seriously. They are the true embodiment of alt-country, good twangy guitars and fiddles with undercurrents of roots, blues and rock. If you liked Uncle Tupelo or any of the various offshoots or have an appreciation of true country/roots rock you will really enjoy this album. And if you get a chance to see them live, do not pass it up under any circumstances. Aside from an excess of cover songs in the last half of the set it is one of the better live shows out there.

5 out of 5 stars Under the table.......2003-10-31

This cd gets better everytime I listen to it. The band puts on a great live show to match their cds. Reckless Kelly gets the job done.

4 out of 5 stars Fresh modern country rock.......2003-08-29

If you're a fan of Steve Earle you shouldn't overlook this album. Reckless Kelly have adopted the Earle style and the singer even sounds very much like the old country rebel. In the booklet, Robert Earl Keen writes an introduction in which he really praise Reckless Kelly and I'm bound to agree. The album starts with two very catchy and melodic alternative country tunes with a fair amount of rock. The rest of the material is a mixture of faster and slower songs with hooks and melody in common. The country music style is always present but it doesn't sound as slick as modern acts like Shania Twain or as old as the Nashville tradition. I believe Reckless Kelly is the perfect bridge between the old and the new sound. If you like Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Robert Earl Keen among others, I can almost guarantee that you'll also find this album enjoyable. Dedicated fans of Jayhawks, Scott Miller, Whiskeytown and Ryan Adams might also like this attractive effort from Reckless Kelly.

If the basic thematic elements of this Bruce Willis star vehicle--American military unit gets cut off behind enemy lines in a guerilla-besieged African backwater--have parallels with Ridley Scott's fierce, unrelenting Black Hawk Down, composer Hans Zimmer (who scored both films) has conjured an entirely different musical soul for this adventure. Where his Black Hawk score turned on a gritty, often violent clash of musical cultures, his work here is richly introspective and tinged with a mature sense of melancholy. African rhythms and melodic elements bubble to the surface throughout, but in subtly powerful ways that often recall the best of Peter Gabriel's world music ventures. Zimmer has again impressively expanded his repertory company approach to scoring as well, with veteran collaborators Lisa Gerrard and Heitor Pereira joined here by Steve Jablonsky, Andreas Vollenweider and Lebo M. (who's written and performed the score's passages of African poetry). The result is a moody, evocative score whose quiet grace recalls the composer's masterful work for The Thin Red Line; another satisfying tribute to the power of musical understatement. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A Great Addition to My Hans Zimmer Collection.......2006-07-24

I am a HUGE fan of Hans Zimmer so this review may be slightly skewered but I feel this is a wonderful edition to my collection. Strange as this sounds, Mr. Zimmer and war go together like butter and toast, so picking this soundtrack up was a no-brainer.
I would have to say that his work on Tears of the Sun does not dig very deep into the well. These tracks could very easily be confused for missing tracks from The Lion King but given how that wonderful score was never released in its entirety, it is still a wonderful listening experience. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
The music is very reminiscent of his work on Black Hawk Down and Gladiator. If you enjoyed both of those scores, I would definately recommend this one as well. It is a very good CD and worth my hard-earned money. I hope you agree...

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as i thought it would be.......2006-02-01

I expected more african vocals in it.. thats the main reason i brought the cd, i recently became a fan of that kind of music.. it had like 3 songs on there that i liked, besides that this album is garbage

2 out of 5 stars Tears of the Sun - lacking.......2005-08-03

Harsh words but I suppose I expected the music to be stronger than it was....

4 out of 5 stars Not easily enjoyed, but remarkable.......2005-04-06

I have to say, I didn't know what to expect from this score. Had it been released in the mid-to-late 90's, I would have expected a blustering action score with several Media Ventures-style anthems. But then Zimmer did something different than usual with "Gladiator", and did something WAY different with "Black Hawk Down", not to mention his somber work on "The Thin Red Line." In the past few years, it's been hard to figure out what to expect from Mr. Z. WHat he gives us a here is a blend of many of his trademark sounds. The African influence from "Power of One" and "Lion King", Lisa Gerards's vocals from "Gladiator", the sad strings of "The Thin Red Line", the harsh electronics of "Black Hawk Down", and even one of Zimmer's famous action anthems. Zimmer is listed as the primary composer, but there are many contributions to the album from Lebo M, Steve Jablonsky, Jeff Rona, and others. The aspect of "Tears of the Sun" that impresses me the most is the production work. Just listen to track four and marvel at the array of ethnic and unique sounds Zimmer thrusts into his massive soundscape. To date, this is one of the best-produced albums I've heard. Like "The Thin Red Line", it's more about atmosphere than themes, but there are themes here. The main theme is inspirational, and is heard best in tracks three (on strings), six (with a male choir and Lisa Gerard), and especially track ten (as a joyous song celebration led by Lebo M with an African choir). Also impressive is the action piece heard in track nine, a relentlessly agressive epic that's preceded by a lovely and (much as I hate to use this cliched word) haunting orchestral prelude accompanied by Gerard's voice. There are parts of "Tears of the Sun" that may sound harsh to the ears on a first listen, but this is an album that you can't help but appreciate and admire, whether or not you like it. Zimmer fans all ready have it by now, but everyone else may want to listen to the avaliable sound clips before deciding to purchase it, as this sort of score is an acquired taste.

5 out of 5 stars Hans Zimmer's brilliance coupled African Poetry of LEBO M.......2004-10-26

I have always been a Bruce Willis fan. So where on God's earth was I when this film was made and showing in the theatres? It must, surely, be one of the best movies he's made. I had no idea it even existed. I bought the DVD from a small Gameforce in Saint Louis, Missouri. And that only because it starred Bruce Willis.
I am a South African living in America and have been starved of good African music for a while. As a Lebo M fan, I was totally surprised to hear, what I was sure was his wonderfully passionate voice coming through the theme music at the end of the movie. WHAT A DELIGHT!. I sat glued, watching the credits as they rolled, being so sure that was Lebo M's voice. The last I heard from Lebo M was his CD "Deeper Meaning". It brought back wonderful memories. I have read through most of the reviews and was amused at Lee from San Fransico's review. However, I suppose if I didn't have the African heritage, I would, most probably felt the same as Lee did. But Lee, his voice BELONGED in that song. Lebo M is at his most passionate best at the end of the film with the African Poetry theme. You don't have to have been born and raised in Africa to appreciate passion in anyone's voice, but it was that passion that drew me to Lebo M in the first place a few years ago. He is highly underated, as far as I am concerned, in the African music field. The movie gripped me to the core and Hans Zimmer's spectacular score was riveting. It finished the film wonderfully for me. But it was Lebo M that polished it. I hope this artist, who is also well known for his disco type style of music, which I don't like, goes a long way in the world of movie soundtrack for this type of movie. I think it's time I listened to "The Lion King" soundtrack too. I think I'm getting old. I have missed some good music and some good films since I came to live in this wonderful country called America. But, I hope it's OK that I get homesick....just every once in a while.
The story line in this film has prompted me to recommend a book written by a black American journalist, Keith B. Richburg, called "Out of America". Anyone who doubts the veracity of the violence portrayed in this movie should read this book. One of the last things he says in the book is "Thank God my ancestor got out".

5 out of 5 stars Stunning CD.......2005-08-04

I met Erquiaga during the "Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp" in 2005. The camp is rather traditional style Jazz camp and more focused on improvising. I am a guitar player and Erquiaga was our combo teacher. We had three sax players, a piano, drums, an upright bass, and a guitar. You get the idea... I found him an excellent Jazz music educator. And I also found him as a great jazz guitar player after seeing him playing during the faculty concert. The camp is all about Jazz.

After the camp is over, I did some web search to find any Erquiaga's CD and I found this one. Without thinking much nor reading about it I just ordered it. When I put the CD into my CD player, I was just stunned in two ways: (1) It was not a Jazz. (2) What a great music it is. I was amazed by his versatility and the beauty of his music no matter what it is. I normally listen to Jazz but this CD is very frequently placed on my CD player. Great work Erquiaga! I am truely impressed.

Amazing guitar technique, beautiful music - what else we need for perfect mood.

5 out of 5 stars Cafe Paradiso by Erquiaga.......2003-05-01

I own hundreds of guitar music tapes and CDs by as many artists. I must say that I was stunned by this arrangement of Presto (JS Bach) and consider it one of the finest performances I have ever heard. This CD is 1 of the best collections of guitar music I have even heard, I would pay $ for the second CD, if Steve were to ever produce another.

I've owned Cafe Paradiso for about a year. I received it as a Chrismas gift last year. It was my best and most enduring gift. I loved it then, and I'm in love with it even more now.
I never write reviews, but I came back here to order 5 CafŽ Paradiso CDs to give as Christmas gifts, and I realize I have to make my feelings know about this CD.
It is absolutely beautiful, it creates such magic, such a wonderful vibe. Steve Erquiaga's brilliance as a guitarist and musician is only surpassed by his unique ability to touch you with every note he plays, he gently wraps you in his music. It's truely amazing.
If you don't have this CD, get it ! You won't be sorry, I guarantee it !

5 out of 5 stars Extraordinary.......2002-01-24

I never waste my time on reviews - until now. I heard this CD on my television at the Peninsula Hotel in Bangkok - it came on every time I turned on the T.V. Since there was also a T.V. over the faucets in the bathtub, I listened to it in the bath and the bedroom every day. It is absolutely fabulous! It is far and away my favorite CD (and I have hundreds)! I'm buying them for all of my best friends, and I'm looking for more by Steve Erquiaga.

What a wonderful CD. It is so relaxing, so beautiful to compare the music with the memories of the film. Have seen this film several times, and would enjoy watching it again. Great family film of real life, hope, and joy. The music reflects these moods, and more...

4 out of 5 stars Under The Tuscan Sun.......2007-01-10

It is a charming movie. It is pure entertainment. This purchase was a gift for my granddaughter-in-law for Christmas. I have seen the movie about 5 times and could watch it again. The music is lovely.

A charming DVD and charming CD. I loved the movie (despite its "chick flick" status) and that made me want the music, which I listened to in my car so much it drove my boys mad. But pleasantly mad. Very upbeat.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful!.......2007-01-03

I purchased the CD after having seen the movie. Anybody who has seen this movie cannot help but be impressed with the beauty of the Italian countryside. When a love affair ends--as it does with Diane Lane--the beautiful surroundings are there for an emotional soft landing. Put this CD on, open a bottle of Chianti, and just simply r-e-l-a-x!!!!!!!!!!

Album Description

"...Infinite possibility, if I can only break down this fourth wall/I'm living in a room for everyone, finding my space under the sun..."and so goes the title track of Ari Gold's sophomore release, Space Under Sun (Released Nov 2003, independently over the internet on Gold 18 Records). In a market saturated with manufactured stars who for the most part are perfectly content churning out the same old cliché's, Gold is determined to shake pop up and find a space for his music in a postmodern world. "I wanted to make an album that I didn't have when I was growing up," Ari told Larry Flick of Billboard magazine in 2001 regarding his first album as an openly gay pop singer which would later take home the Outmusic Award for Outstanding Debut Recording. With Space Under Sun Gold goes even further musically & lyrically and creates a pop landscape that goes beyond boundaries and labels.

After landing on Top Of The Pops with DJ Luck and MC Neat on the UK single, "I'm All About You" (Island Universal) co-written and produced by hitmaker Desmond Child, Gold began working on Space Under Sun. He collaborated with top notch industry songwriters and producers such as Peter Amato (Leanne Rimes), Marsha Malamet (Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan), MAJOR (Lamya), Mr. Khalil (Res), Steve Skinner (Rent, Bette Midler), Soong Lee (Allure) recording all over the globe from Atlanta, Miami, LA and NYC to London and Israel. Gold describes the album as "an intergalactic hybrid of 80's and contemporary R&B, spacey pop, and funky smooth soul." Gay City News stated that "Gold pushes the envelope as much as a rapper like Eminem does." Although instead of lyrics that are fag bashing and woman hating, the subject matter ranges from a guy and a girl (Kendra Ross, currently featured on the latest CD by Talib Kweli) fighting over the same man ("He's On My Team") to getting caught having sex in public with another man by the cops ("Caught), to diva worship ("Fan-tastic"), a matter that is crucial to many a gay man's evolution, seeking independence and self actualization ("More Than Enough," "Back To me") to romantic and sexual intimacy ("Funk That Ship," "Intimate.") There is also the tender ballad "Bashert (Meant To Be) in which Gold incorporates his Jewish identity of having grown up as an orthodox Jew. The 13 track CD includes a downloadable music video of "Wave Of You" directed by Guy Guido which was shot as a tribute to the late great photographer Herb Ritts as well as an mp3 of "Review My Kisses" a song co-written and produced by Desmond Child. Gold will continue performing in NYC where Time Out magazine said that he was a "smash success...wowing the local music scene" and Backstage called his musicianship, "flawless" as well as around the globe to promote his new CD.

1 out of 5 stars One Of The Worst..........2007-03-06

This is truely one of the worst Cd's I have ever listened too. Sure it's great that he is gay and actually singing about being gay rahter than closeting himself, but that does not make for a great CD. The songs are generic and bland with no beat whatsoever, his voice is weak and emotionless, and the lyrics are chessy silliness. The hooks themselves don't even exsist. Once I got to the train wreck that was He's On My Team, (a lame version of The Boy Is Mine by Brandy and Monica), I knew there was no hope. Stay away from this CD at all costs. Not even one song was ok to listen too. I hope he gets better material next time because I do want to be a fan of his, but this is trash.

Ari Gold's Space under Sun CD is truly delightful, a great R&B sound. It is a pity he is not or appears not to be known in Australia. I am looking forward to a new CD from him and regret that his debut CD is not available, otherwise I would definitely purchase it.

REPETITIVE BEATS AND MOST SOUND EXACTLY ALIKE THE DUET IS WORTH THE PRICE DEFINETLY CATERS TO GAY CLIENTEL WHICH IS WHY I PURCHASED MANY OF ARI GOLDS RECORDED MATERIAL...THE MIXES CD WAS THE BEST

5 out of 5 stars Dancy, Sexy, Romantic and... Spiritual!? :D.......2006-04-01

Ari Gold is amazing, his looks are good but his voice is incredible, whoever said he couldn't sing needs to get earwax removed! This sexy album has many dance tracks and some tastefully arousing gay material in "Funk That Ship" and about being caught having gay sex in "Caught". But Ali is alot more than a down and dirty songster, his music has soul with the romantic and holy Intimate where he declares he has "waited for the longest time to commit this crime, to be intimate with you... Baby can't you see I'm so in love with you" and Spiritual and Romantic, Bashert (Meant To Be) maintaining what seems like beautiful beliefs in your soulmate being out there and God. Also "Back to Me" can be interpreted many ways one of which I take as taking back your virginity, your self-worth or/and your humility and humanity. He's sounds amazing, he's dancy, sexy, raunchy, spiritual and deep! Wow, how many albums combine all that that! An incredible R&B, and that doesn't begin to describe his style, gay singer and album.

5 out of 5 stars I¿ve heard it probably 100 times in 5 months!!!!!!!!!.......2002-10-02

That's true what I say- impossible to get tired of this CD!
I mean, it has little running time, but it's so precious that any fan of music of 30's and 40's music will be delighted. Well, maybe not any fan... This is a movie soundtrack! A soundtrack for a funny mystery one!
I have to say that John Lanchberry did an excellent work reconducting old Porter classics, fitting graciously in every scene of the film.
In other my reviews I usually talked of almost every track, but here that's impossible because each one includes so many tunes- many will look familiar to you- listen that fantastic, that crazy, that lovely "Dance Sequence".
To Poirot, Arlena, Daphne, Myra, Odell, Linda, etc nuts and I Concentrate On You, I've Got You Under My Skin, etc nuts-BUY IT NOW!!!

4 out of 5 stars Pleasures and nostalgia fun.......2001-10-11

Eversince after watching the film version of Agatha Christie's novel 'Evil Under The Sun', I was intrigued by the music used for the soundtrack. To my joy, it is a string of melodies by the great Cole Porter. It has been awhile for the soundtrack to be release on CD format and when it was release, I grab a copy of it and found it a little treasure to hear.
Music was arranged and conducted by John Lanchberry and he did a commendable job of using Cole Porter's music to enchance the mood of the film. Since the film is set in the late 30's, what better way than to celebrate Mr.Porter's music. All his familiar and popular tunes are here, including 'I've Got You Under My Skin', 'I Concentrate On You', 'Night and Day', 'Anything Goes' and 'Begin The Beguine' to mention a few.
John Lanchberry is not a stranger to film music. He has composed the music for the 1971 ballet film 'Tales Of Beatrix Potter', which is the highlight of his musical career. It is not surprising to have him to arrange a vast vault of standards by Cole Porter and to transform them into incidental music for a film.
There are 17 tracks on this CD and each of them tells a little story of their own and it is cleverly used to suit the mood of the film. I do enjoy listening to it as it envisions of an era where life was so different them. It is a really something to cherish.

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't Give the Songs a Chance.......2000-01-20

After reading all of the raving reviews I expected a real treat with this CD. Sadly, I was let down. My big complaints: The total length of the CD is exactly 32 minutes and one second. There are 17 tracks on the CD. Most tracks contain a blending of about three different Porter tunes (though track 13 covers 7 different tunes) so that in the end 43 tunes are played, although many of them are repeated over and over. What all this translates down to is that the CD is *way* too short and tries to cover *way* too many songs in such a short time. We get a few seconds of song here, then a few there -- they're never given the chance to develop.

Secondly, I was not overly impressed by the arrangements of the music. They sounded very glib and "Hollywood" to me, which was very unappealing. Too many strings were used as well, which is not something Porter used a lot of in his compositions. Also, we hear some songs played in really odd styles. Track 14, for example, gives us "Begin the Beguine" played as some kind of battle song with a sharp snare drum solemnly beating behind the melody the entire time!

I am really not usually a very negative reviewer, especially when it comes to Cole Porter music, but this is not a CD that I will find myself listening to very often.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best mix of 1930's - 40's music available!.......1999-12-01

It's all Instrumental, but it's a half hour of pure bliss! This soundtrack is amazing! It's my 5th favorite in a Collection of 210!

5 out of 5 stars Something EXTRAORDINARY!.......1999-05-24

I have been looking for this soundtrack since I first saw the movie several years ago. Thank goodness someone finally saw fit to issue it. The arrangements are marvelous, and are the reason for my developing a love of Cole Porter music in my early teen years. The movie itself was VERY well written, acted and directed, but it was DEFINITELY enhanced by the soundtrack.
