I was pleasently surprised at this CD. The singers were all pretty good, and the music was great. My only complaint is with the 'Phantom of the Opera' tracks. "Christine" does fine on the title song and 'All I Ask of You', but on 'Wishing Your Were Somehow Here Again', she falls a little short of a good preformance.

The thing that impresses me the most on this CD are the 'Jesus Christ Superstar' tracks. They all sounded superb, and I prefer them to my original broadway cast soundtrack.

I was dissappointed that they only chose two songs from 'Cats', one of Lloyd Webber's crowning acheivements as a composer. THe show was remarkably successful and is the second longest running show in Broadway history, only topped by 'Phantom'. Also, I felt the songs they chose were a bit...odd. 'Memory', of course, is a given. But why throw 'Mister Mistoffelees' into the mix? Why not the Prolouge,'Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats'?

All in all, I was very impressed with this CD. I give it 4 out of 5 stars, and I recommend it for any fan of Lloyd Webber's music.

Scott Seigel's concerts, Broadway by the Year gather a group of the current crop of Broadway performers and turn them loose on songs from Musicals that opened during 1 year on Broadway. It helps that 1953 was a strong year musically, with Bernstein's Wonderful Town, Porter's Can Can, Kismet and Me and Juliet from Rogers and Hammerstein. Jule Styne also chimed in with Hazel Flagg which contains one almost standard "Every Street's a Boulevard in Old New York. Some great stuff on this album, wonderfully sung as almost always. I love this series and hope to acquire each and every one at some point.

    Okay. Here goes. 'That Don't Impress Me Much' is the remix used on the radio, and it's listed as the dance mix edit (so where's the full length dance mix!!!). Track 2 is listed on the CD sleeve as the tempo mix of 'From this Moment On,' but it is the dance mix, and it's awesome! Unfortunately, it's rather short, and sounds like it fades just when it's heading towards being a club anthem (again, where's the long version???). The third track is 'From this moment on', and is listed as the dance mix on the sleeve, but it is not. It's the Shania solo ballad version that one of the other customers was requesting in his comments. No background vocals by the male.

    I do not know what I was thinking of when I bought this CD. Think Yanni crossed with a generic string quartet, but without enthusiasm. The energy normally found in Shania's music is simply absent. Come to think of it, another one-word summary of this disk is "limp". (Note: the recorded musicians play their instruments far better than I ever could.)

    Despite being composed in a feminist tone undermining a man's vain endeavour to coax a woman,"That Don't Impress Me Much" is a fantastic song that would make all,even men,nod their heads in utter glee and unalloyed admiration. Really this song reveals the best that Shania Twain can deliver---it's humourous,it's satirical and it's a simple but sweet melody. People have often cmpared her with Madonna and have often undercut the essence of her music. But Shania Twain has a unique and fabulous touch of humour in her voice that Madonna doesn't possess and in "That Don't Impress Me Much" this quality is vividly exhibited. This track is so witty and hilarious that indeed even a manis rendered hopelessly admiring the stunning female solo artist's style and intensity. Shania Twain always makes her music with a definitive conviction and in this track,this quality is at its best.

    This is honestly the worst collection of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Music ever. If you've never heard his music before, stick to getting an official CD. The sound quality, arrangements, and voices on these make it feel like it was recorded in someone's basement. Just absolutely HORRID!!! I ended up just throwing it out. Take my word for it, DON'T BUY THIS COLLECTION, or any other ALW stuff you see that says "Orlando Pops Orchestra" Just look what people are selling it for used. That should say enough.

    From an album of bad songs comes what turns out to be the worst of all. At first I thought the treacly You're Still The One was the worst - compare Shania's version with the solid 1970s rocker of the same title to see how bad Shania's is - but Don't Impress surpasses it in idiocy. Not only does it basically urge women to sell themselves short for the sake of some action, the song fails in and of itself. Shania's singing lacks any kind of believable depth, suffering from a nauseating slur throughout. The backing track is like something from Weird Al Yankovic - for that matter, this song and its parent album deserve the Weird Al treatment.

    What is the anti-classic you ask? An un-timeless, annoying, stupid sell-out "muzak". First of all, she says, "Okay, so you're Brad Pitt, but that don't impress me". In ten years, nobody will identify with the song 'cause Brad Pitt won't be around then. Okay Shania, just because you BELONG in a pit doesn't impress me much. SELLOUT CITY THE HOMETOWN OF SHANIA TWAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
