Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece.......2007-06-20

Clear and crisp and played with vigor and heart. Mass call is of course Mess Call that someone spelled wrong. What worked for me is that I review four or five calls each night before bed. I hum them first and then listen to the call on the CD. The next day, I work out on the bugle until lip fatigue sets in.

5 out of 5 stars Clear and simple.......2006-08-04

Single bugle calls, clear and simple-recognizable to this Navy/Marine Corps veteran. Also some army stuff if you desire that sort of thing. Quite a lot of quality stuff.

5 out of 5 stars What a track!.......2000-04-23

I have this on the album but I'd just like to put my 2 cents' worth in. I've not been able to stop playing this since I got the CD 6 or 7 months ago. It's got the lot: a killer bassline (which sounds like I Feel Love and Blue Monday whisked up in a blender and left to settle overnight), kicking drums and excellent vocals from Bernard 'the voice' Sumner, who's become one of my heroes over the past while. Some of the lyrics are slightly cheeky, which adds to the track's appeal. Sasha's mix is top, too. If you're a Chems fan and you don't have this, get it now or miss out on one of the greatest tunes ever made!

4 out of 5 stars Great song.......2000-04-20

The single is what this CD is worth listening to, especially if you are a huge Bernard Sumner fan (I was going to say a huge Barney fan, but too many people will have images of purple dinosaurs in their heads, so I won't say it.) I put this song on a mix tape and listen to it in my car on a daily basis.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this now!!!.......1999-10-14

"Out of Control" is probably the best song off Surrender and with a super Sasha remix and a new bigbeat song "Power Move", this single is definetley worth getting. Anyone that loved the more hard core old Chem Bros style should get this.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I've been waiting 31 years for this!.......2005-12-27

It's a pity that the many great talents that comprised the Doors were so overshadowed by Jim Morrison's lugubrious presence. I was lucky enough to have ready access to cut-out bins full of vinyl records, from which I plucked such post-Doors gems as Full Circle, Other Voices, Golden Scarab, The Whole Thing and Butts Band (Robbie and John's project with Jess Roden). Too, I was lucky enough to be at an age where I was seeking for the words of wisdom that fill both this album and the Golden Scarab, for Ray's deep, experiential spirituality flows through these works like a river. This isn't the Mrs. Grundy spirituality peddled in your Sunday school sermons, either--this is the spirituality of a life on fire for experience, knowledge, good times and rock and roll! It is the stuff of dreams, but the dream is Life itself. Those with ears to hear will hear everything that is needed to survive this life intact in this work and, of course, in the Golden Scarab.

Ray must have had his absolute pick of the label's stable, for the greatest lights in modern music strut beautifully upon his stage, lending a brilliance to his words and music that I've not seen equaled since. Musical allusions will delight Doors fans, while those fond of obscure talents will scratch their heads and ask: isn't that Flo and Eddie? The Danny Sugarmen singers (Archies, Josie and the Pussycats, et al)? George Segal on Banjo? John Klemmer on Sax?

Don't miss this treat!

5 out of 5 stars A Wizard; A True Prodigy.......2005-11-14

From the greatest keyboard player to ever draw a breath on God's green earth comes Ray Manzarek's 2nd and best album. What a powerful album it is, too! Bicentennial Blues has the most WICKED organ solo I've ever heard. Highly recommended for that song alone.

5 out of 5 stars Still great after all these years.......2005-10-01

This was one of the sleeper albums of 1974. Anyone who owns this on vinyl has been waiting 30 years for this to finally come out. Of course, it never sold well. Jim Morrison casts a long shadow, and if you approach a listen to this album expecting to hear "Roadhouse Blues," you'll be disappointed. But if you give this a listen as a Ray Manzarek album, you'll wonder why this album didn't get more airplay. It's a strong piece of work throughout, and stands up well to this day through repeated listens. If you own the vinyl, you'll be interested to know that the sound quality is excellent. If you own the original CD release of "The Golden Scarab," which had three songs from this album, yes, it's worth it to buy this to get the other 5 tracks. My favorite is "Bicentennial Blues," which has an updated version of his organ solo from "Light My Fire" that totally rocks.

The Stone Coyotes might be a rock band, but that doesn't mean they slip neatly into a stereotype. Barbara Keith's songs are influenced by folk music ("Where the Old Oak Grows," "If You See the One") and gospel ("Bone Tired") as much by Led Zeppelin or any classic-rock sound. She's a powerful singer, too, and as a guitarist she can flurry notes with the best of them, although she generally chooses not to, making her solos short and very incisive. For a three-piece, there's a remarkably full sound, with much kudos to the Tibbles father and son rhythm section, solid as a rock but subtle so you sense them without being overwhelmed. This is a band that's confident of its own identity--their cover of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" makes it sound like an original, and they're not afraid to embrace some neopunk on the live closer, "Saw You at the Hop." These coyotes howl. --Chris Nickson

5 out of 5 stars Folk lyrics meet power rock 'n roll trio........2006-10-29

"Situation Out of Control", "Lucky Day", "When Parliament Convenes", the haunting (for a sometime sailor) "The Black Atlantic", the kicking "I Want to Rock" the cover of "Season of the Witch", "Saw You at the Hop", what's not to like? How many albums are you going to find where EVERY song is outstanding? Barbara Keith had an eponymous vinyl LP in 1972 that I tracked down and purchased on CD (well worth the effort) learning in that search about her subsequent band, 'The Stone Coyotes'. All (so far) seven Coyotes' albums are terrific, with, in my opinion, "fire it up" and "Situation Out of Control" being the stand-outs. "Barbara Keith" was folk with considered lyrics. Barbara Keith brings every bit of that intelligent poetic sensibility to hard-core rock and roll with 'The Stone Coyotes'. Just the first song alone, "Situation Out of Control", is worth the effort to acquire.

5 out of 5 stars I jest you not folks, this could be your lucky day........2000-12-01

This is one of the songs you hear when being transferred to an order specialist! Let me tell you folks, I called, and was put on hold, and after hearing this song, I was so touched... it was like an angel came and sat on my shoulder. Soon after that experience, I finally got to talk to a LIVE person, and she must have picked up on my overwhelmed state of X-tacy, that she was able to help me with all my problems, and then proceeded to give me a gift certificate for my future purchases! Talk about luck! I credit this song for my good fortune! You know, sometimes I call in and just ask to be put on hold...

A few more wise words for you:

Whatever you do, don't be downhearted, blah - blah - blah, somethings might be coming round the corner, this might be your lucky day,

this might be your lucky day,

your lucky day,

lucky day-ay-ay.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Album.......2000-11-14

For those of you who are fans of the Stone Coyotes, I would recommend tracking down an album by Tom Faulkner called, Lost in the Land of Texico. I think you'll enjoy it for the same reasons you like the Coyotes.

5 out of 5 stars if you want to understand groove..........2000-08-26

to have any expectation about this album is to have it blown away by the opening power of the title track. moving from storytelling in "where the old oak grows" to the imagery of "my horse has wings" and the crunch of "bone tired" there are only moments to catch your breath when needed. this isn't to say that "situation out of control" moves forward at a breakneck pace, out of control in itself - to say that would be an insult to an album taking inspiration from all sorts of places musical from straight-ahead american rock to country to punk to rap - all strung together throughout the album, and, in this reviewer's opinion coming together in the spectacular "when parliament convenes" - thus sounding truly, for the first time in years, like no other band sounds...

5 out of 5 stars The Stone Coyotes have done it again!.......2000-08-17

This album is so good that it gives me chills. I especially like "Where the Old Oak Grows" and "Highland Boy".

5 out of 5 stars THE MOTOR CITY MADMAN RAISES HELL WITH OUT OF CONTROL........2007-02-05

Readers and reviewers, I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation Boxset album entitled "OUT OF CONTROL" by one of Rock's greatest artists and one of America's most favorite sons. I give you Detroit, Michigan's own motor city madman, MR. TED NUGENT. "OUT OF CONTROL" was originally released in 1993 on a two Compact Disc Boxset on the Epic Legacy Records label in association with Sony Music Entertainment Inc. and Atlantic Recording Corporation. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation Boxset or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

TED NUGENT will always be forever remembered as being one of the most charismatic musicians to ever grace Rock n' Roll. Once NUGENT picks up his guitar, he becomes the motor city madman and plays his guitar as if it is going to be his last time. NUGENT has recorded so many great Rockers through the years that he has instilled his songs into our heads that will never be forgotten. This two Compact Disc Boxset is the result of all those great Rockers. Believe me when I tell you that EVERY SINGLE SONG TRACK CONTAINED IN THIS BOXSET IS NOTHING SHORT OF OUTSTANDING. Every single song kicks a*s in this Boxset. This two Compact Disc Boxset is the story of TED NUGENT.

I will list and briefly review certain song tracks that I feel are vital and necessary for this review. The songs I will briefly review are the ones that are most popular and the ones you can mostly identify with. I apologize if I left out your favorite songs but I have to shorten this review. There are thirty-four song tracks contained in this Boxset, it would really lengthen this review. I will list and review certain song tracks in their original exact running order as follows: DISC ONE (7.) "Stranglehold," (This is almost nine minutes of some of the most a*s kicking Rock n' Roll ever recorded. NUGENT plays his guitar with some of the most screeching and freightening sounds ever heard. NUGENT'S whining sounds he plays through his guitar can make you go deaf instantly. This whole song makes you fell like you are being sufficated by a Stranglehold.) (8.) "Stormtroopin'," (This is a well performed and recorded Rocker by NUGENT and company. NUGENT shows no mercy while he is playing his guitar in this one. This Rocker kicks a*s as well.) (9.) "Hey Baby," (This is another well recorded Rocker by NUGENT. This a*s kicking Rocker has a superb up lifting beat to it that would make any pretty woman want to get up on the bar tables and dance.) (10.) "Motor City Madhouse," (This is one hell of a Rocker that kicks a*s. This Rocker should be played on the assembly line at Ford and General Motors. I bet a lot of work would be accomplished during this period.) (11.) "Free-For-All" (This is another well recorded NUGENT Rocker that kicks a*s. NUGENT NEVER lets up when it comes to playing his guitar.) and (14.) "Street Rats." (This song track is a previously unreleased alternate version) (This alternate Rocker kicks a*s just like the original version. NUGENT plays a mean blistering guitar in this one.) DISC TWO (1.) "Cat Scratch Fever," (This is another well recorded NUGENT Rocker that kicks a*s. NUGENT does not let up on this Rocker either. NUGENT plays whining and screetching sounds through his guitar like he can make it scratch like a cat.) (2.) "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang," (What a NUGENT ROCKER. This Rocker kicks a*s like no other ever would or ever could again. This a*s kicking Rocker should also be played on the Automotive assembly line everywhere in Detroit. This song is a TRUE ROCKER.) (5.) "Out Of Control," (This is another well recorded NUGENT Rocker that kicks a*s. Again, NUGENT NEVER lets up while he is playing his guitar. NUGENT'S blistering guitar solo is the pure Rock stuff that is made of legend. NUGENT plays guitar with such confidence that he dares to get in your face.) (14.) "Wango Tango," (All I can say about this song is that it is another well recorded NUGENT Rocker that kicks a*s. NUGENT re-defines how the guitar would be played throughout this whole Boxset. Again, NUGENT does not let up while he is playing his guitar.) (15.) "Scream Dream" (What a Rocker. From the beginning screams of this song to the blistering guitar playing by NUGENT makes this a*s kicking Rocker one hell of a song to get psyched up by.) and (18.) "Little Miss Dangerous." (This is another well recorded NUGENT Rocker that kicks a*s. NUGENT plays a mean blistering guitar in this Rocker and NEVER lets up.) Overall, this is one hell of an a*s kicking compilation Boxset album that never lets up.

I would like to encourage everyone to purchase this compilation Boxset album to own as part of their own valuable personal music collection. As a result of this, this legendary compilation Boxset will stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.

In closing, TED NUGENT is here to stay. Despite having his own show on VH1 and being an authority outdoorsman, NUGENT will always be remembered for being a Rock n' Roller first. NUGENT'S place in Rock n' Roll history is well secured and will never be forgotten. Here's to you TED. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? TED NUGENT RULES. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. Keep On Rockin'. Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever in Rock, John L.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome collection from uncle Ted, the motor city madman.......2006-11-08

Ted nugent was a wild man, outspoken and full of opinions, but also an inspited guitar/song writer now for 4 decades of rock transendign generations. This is a collection of his best solo stuff, studio and live, and is a must have for ted fans. If you're looking for the Damn Yankees though, not gonna find it here. All you'll find is the classic kick bottom rock that made Ted, not the bad hair rock stuff he flaunted with (although Ted kicked its behind as well). Thank you Ted for not surcombing to those demons, and this set is his offering to the rock gods, and something we get to enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Anthology of the Wild Man from Detroit.......2001-06-24

This is a 2 cd set of Ted Nugent's work. It is primarily from 1975-1980. It contains a few tracks from his work with the Amboy Dukes. It also includes some unissued live and studio tracks and alternate takes. Ted is the master of high energy in your face guitar bombast. This set includes all the major hits including his two early hits "Baby Please Don't Go", and "Journey To The Center Of Your Mind" with the Amboy Dukes. If you enjoy this period buy youself a copy of "Loaded For Bear" the new anthology of his work with the Amboy Dukes. I was disappointed that the instrumental "Hibernation" was not included from this time period. His best solo work commenced with his self-titled debut album. The band at this point also included Derek St. Holmes on vocals and second guitar. St. Holmes vocals provide a good contrast with Nugent's more gruff style. His band was weakened considerably after Nugent fired St. Holmes in the mid seventies. Great songs from this period which appear are "Stranglehold", "Stormtroopin", "Just What The Doctor Ordered", "Motor City Madhouse", "Free-For-All", and "Cat Scratch Fever". His second solo album features a young Meatloaf on some of the vocals. This compilation contains 5 cuts from his best known album "Cat Scratch Fever". Two cuts from his excellent "Double Live Gonzo" are included as well as two unissued live cuts from this era. I wish more live tracks were included because his live album translates his energy to vinyl better than his studio efforts. I was disappointed that only two tracks from the "State Of Shock" album were included. In my opinion this is his best solo album he made after firing St. Holmes. Tracks such as "Take It Or Leave It", "It Don't Matter", and "Bite Down Hard" have memorable hooks but were left off the compilation. "A couple other tracks I wish were included are "Gonzo", "Death By Misadventure", "Smokescreen", and "Hard As Nails". His biggest hit from this late seventies period "Wango Tango" is included. This is the most comprehensive Ted Nugent compilation available, and the unissued tracks make it a necessity for fans of this period. I also recommend the "Live At Hammersmith '79" disc. It is another high energy concert document which contains live versions of some songs that do not appear on this compilation or his "Double Live Gonzo" album.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection for any Rock Fan.......2000-06-12

This is one of the best box sets that I've ever heard. The Nuge puts together some new tracks, the best of his old tracks, and a few live ones. The only bad thing about this CD would have to be the sound quality because it's very quiet. If you're a Nugent fan, you require this cd. If you're not, I would buy it anyway because it has a variety of sounds and subjects. You can listen to these songs pretty much anywhere. Ted tears through each song with his Gibson Byrdland guitar with so much passion and energy. Through his guitar-strewn mayhem lies some of the most incredible and entertaining songs ever. It's great to have. Now that I have heard it, I feel musically deprived without it.

"Communist, Eastern European countries... may have come up with Karl Marx," punk entrepreneur Brett Gurewitz once said, "and they may have come up with Trotsky, but they'll never come up with Chuck Berry." The 1950s' rock revolution, this four-CD box is designed to remind us, led to more than just Happy Days and Grease; it was part and parcel of the movement for social change in racial and sexual terms that, like the music, was impossible to stop. Of course, it sounded great, too. ("That ain't no freight train that you hear rollin' down the railroad tracks," the Coasters remind us near the end of disc one. "That's a country-born piano man playin' in between the cracks.") Loud, Fast & Out of Control offers its share of the usual oldies-radio fodder, but also tosses in countless little-heard gems, from Gene Vincent's "B-I-Bickey-Bi, Bo-Bo-Go" (with Cliff Gallup serving up several of rockabilly's most inspired, unhinged guitar solos) and several Johnny Burnette Trio singles to Little Richard's towering title song for The Girl Can't Help It, the Johnny Otis Show's "Crazy Country Hop," and Carl Perkins's "Put Your Cat Clothes On." --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Get These Sets.......2007-07-10

I am 58 1/2 years old
My favorite music of all time is 50's doo wop and all the great music of the 60's.Oh and my mom's great music from the war years.
Gosh, come to think of it,I love it all !!

There is nothing that compares to these box sets from the 50's rock.
I suggest you get these sets, they are rare and a couple are already very
expensive. Here they are in no particular order.

Hot Rods & Custom Classics [BOX SET]
Rockin' Bones: 1950s Punk and Rockabilly
Loud, Fast & Out Of Control [BOX SET]
What a great, great set of music these box sets make.

Kids of today hopefully will explore these early rock sets.
They will be impossible to buy in a short time.
I paid an arm and a leg for Loud, Fast & Out Of Control [BOX SET] but what a gem !!!
These sets complement each other so beautifully.

I just sit and stare at them as I play them, remember how we sat and stared
at the album cover as the music played.
God,I sound like I am nutty as a fruit cake..
Anyway..these sets are gorgeous !!

4 out of 5 stars Predecessor to "Rockin' Bones".......2007-04-05

This is a great set of '50's music, and standing alone it is pretty essential stuff. However, if you have already bought Rhino's Rockin' Bones set, you can pretty much dispose with picking this one up. That set has most of the rarities this one has at far below the larcenous prices some sellers ask.

Whereas Rockin' Bones is more narrowly focused on '50's Rockabilly, this one casts a broader net and revels more in music that the compilers envision the '50's juvenile delinquent set may have listened to. An interesting concept, but most any serious music collector is likely to already posess the rare cuts not on Rockin' Bones.

5 out of 5 stars Loud, Fast and Out of Control.......2005-09-22

Excellent compilation of singles (some well known, some not) reflecting the darker side of 50's rock. Comes colorfully packaged with a very informative and witty booklet.

5 out of 5 stars You'll catch the rockin' pneumonia and boogie woogie flu!.......2005-03-26

This is an amazing collection if you lived through this era or don't have a clue what all the fuss was about way back when. If this set doesn't make you smile, you're probably half-dead. Even with a few questionable choices and omissions, it'll make you more energized than a visit to Dr. Feelgood himself!!

5 out of 5 stars Rock n' Roll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-09-27

I may be old fashioned, but this is the music that make me go crazy!! I love it! This is the essential rock n' roll box set. 10 stars.

5 out of 5 stars All I can Say is WOW.......2004-08-29

This is possibly the best Rockabilly band in years and years. The two albums they have are my two greatest buys. I know rockabilly, neo, traditional whatever, Ive listened for years..this is the real deal. If you are like me, enjoying a wide variety of rockabilly, this is the band you have been hoping to find, from high energy guitar riffs, growling vocals, this is the band. I guarentee this will be in your cd tray for weeks at a time. I cant say enough about Rockin Ryan and the Realgoners, except thank you! Keep rocking!

5 out of 5 stars great late 50's style rock'n'roll and some rockabilly.......2004-08-25

This cd captures Rockin' Ryan's wild and energetic stage presence, even though these are studio recordings. Ryan sings like a rockabilly star from around 1957, but without copying any particular 50's rockabilly icon, and therefore sounding original. This cd is different from his 1st lp, which sounded like mid 50's rockabilly, this cd is late 50's and even early 60's rock'n'roll ,with a few rockabilly and western swingy sounding tracks thrown in for good measure. The highlight of this cd is without a doubt his original "Spiderlegged Baby", where the witty lryics state "I was trying to kiss her lips, I was inbetween her hips... I was trying to kiss her face, I was inbetween her waste." A great cd, and it shows that Ryan is maturing wit hwach new release, here's looking forward to his next cd.
