Customer Reviews:
Classic live box, must have it..........2007-07-10
Well it's hard to say something bad about this boxset because it's perfect. You get more than 7 hours of live rock music for only $40, great setlists and many rarities.
Sept. 1st 2005
One show = 36 songs, what to say. On first 3 cd's you can find classic songs like "Black", "Small Town", "Even Flow", "Daughter", "State of Love and Trust", "Alive", "Last Kiss", "Betterman", "Yellow Ledbetter"... and many rarities like "Man of the Hour", "Hard to Imagine", "Alone", "Undone", "Crown of Thorns", "Sad"... plus they played 3 great covers "I Believe in Miracles" (Ramones), "I Won't Back Down" (Tom Petty) and "Baba O'Riley" (Who). They also played "Love Boat Captain", song written after Roskilde tragedy in 2000.
July 22nd & 23rd 2006
Last two shows on American Tour in 2006. On these 4 cd's you can hear almost the whole new album they had released in 2006 (selftitled album "Pearl Jam"). Again, like in 2005 they played many rarities like "Mamasan Trilogy" (Footsteps, Once, Alive), "Leash", "Dirty Frank", "Wash", "Down", "God's Dice", "In Hiding", "Garden", "Rats", Jimi Hendrix "Little Wing" and Neil Young "Rockin' in the Free World" and "F*ckin' up" plus many classics...
After all, if you decide to buy this box, trust me, you won't regret because this box is a piece of art.
Notice: tracklisting on Amazon is incorrect:
Sept. 1st 2005: 1st cd has 9 songs, 2nd cd has 17 songs, 3rd cd has 11 songs
July 22nd 2006: 1st cd has 17 songs, 2nd cd has 15 songs
July 23rd 2006: 1st cd has 18 songs, 2nd cd has 13 songs
9/10.......2007-07-07
Seven discs of live Pearl Jam for a reasonable price. I couldn't turn it down, even though I already own the July 22 show, which I also had the privilege of attending. It's a nice colorful box set of digipacks, the only downside being that it does not contain any liner notes or pictures of the shows.
But packaging aside, here is some vital information I assembled that might be useful to some of you who may be indecisive as to whether or not to acquire this box. I did a tally of all the songs and arranged them by era, based on the studio albums, so you can quickly see how many songs you're getting from whatever albums you love. Non-LP songs include b-sides and session songs. (Yeah, I was bored at work.) So here are the album-eras of Pearl Jam, followed by the number of songs performed live in this box set:
Ten ......... 12 (eight LP, four non-LP)
Vs. .......... 11 (nine LP, two non-LP)
Vitalogy .... 7
No Code .... 3
Yield ......... 5
Binaural .... 3 (two LP, one non-LP)
Riot Act .... 6 (four LP, two non-LP)
Pearl Jam ... 12
Covers ...... 8
Other ........ 3
Amidst the three long shows, totaling exactly 100 tracks (there are tracks not listed on Amazon for some reason), there are five threepeated songs (Evenflow, Alive, Corduroy, Given to Fly, and Yellow Ledbetter). As you can tell from the tally, it's a good mix of material; not entirely representative of every album, but most likely representative of the albums that the majority of people want to hear (i.e. Ten and Vs.). But all the performances are spot-on and well done by the band, and of course there's a lot of mid-song banter that gives that "realness" to the shows, and makes you feel like you were there even if you weren't. So if you're a fan, there's really no reason not to pick this up.
A couple of side notes: Among the "other" songs is a dual performance of Mother Love Bone's "Crown of Thorns," which they have been playing fairly often in the past few years. I didn't think it fair to consider that a cover song. Also included in the later versions of Yellow Ledbetter is a Hendrix tribute that McCready has been squeezing in in recent shows, which includes excerpts from "Little Wing" and "The Star-spangled Banner," the former of which is covered as a separate track on the last disc.
Great collection of live Pearl Jam.......2007-07-06
All three of these shows pretty much cover all the bases of pearl jam live. All of the hits, some rarities and some great covers. I was at the first Gorge show ('05) and knew right away that I was experiencing one of the great P.J. shows. I didn't even know this set was going to be released and was quite excited to see it on the store shelf and purchased it immediately. If you're a fan of Pearl Jam's albums or of their live show I do not see how you could be disappointed in this collection. This set is also an excellent introduction for the casual fan to Pearl Jam's live show, with three unique set lists to absorb. Recommended!!
If you call yourself a real Pearl Jam fan, you would already have this CD.......2007-07-03
As a person who already owns every bootlegged PJ CD on the market, I was just thinking that this would be a live album in the same vein as all the others....Not so..this is BY FAR the BEST live CD the boys have every put out. Many of my favorites were different tempos, lyrics, etc. A MUST HAVE FOR ANY PEARL JAM FAN!!!
Pearl Jam Live at the Gorge...Simply the Best.......2007-06-30
I received this 3CD set album the day it was released from the Pearl Jam Website....
This is just them in their own element...The only place to see them, and it was recorded live for all of us who could not be there. Thanks Pearl Jam...you are the best... The art work captures the feeling of the gorge and the set lists put you right there..from a scorching 116 degree day..to an awe inspiring sunset over the Columbia River...The greatest rock band in the world in the greatest venue in the world...what are you waiting for? Buy it...

Customer Reviews:
Do you like Phil Collins?.......2007-06-27
I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent.
I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Just listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority.
In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock.
Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist.
Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
The DVD's are worth the price of admission.......2007-06-27
Simply put, this collection is outstanding. To hear Wind and Wuthering with clarity is great. To hear some of the songs that have long been missing from the Genesis CD catalogue, and to have them all in one place is wonderful. But the items that truly make this collection great are the DVD's. "In The Cage" on the Duke DVD is recorded before the 3 Sides Live era. The interviews, while I know are not new, I had never seen. And finally, to see all the other live footage with Steve Hacket is wonderful! If you are a true fan of this era of Genesis, do not hesitate on this one.
Intriguing mixes and a welcome hidden bonus on the extra disc.......2007-06-19
I will write a full review in this space later, once I have fully digested all the material on this set and closely listened to the new mixes. My first impression: the remixing job is SIGNIFICANT. I've lived with these albums for years and all sorts of different details are jumping out at me with these new versions. The remixes of Trick (my second favorite Genesis LP behind Selling England) and Wind And Wuthering (my least favorite pre-1986 LP) are particularly welcome: Phil's voice is much more prominent on songs like "Squonk," "Ripples," and "Your Own Special Way," and it turns out that there was no good reason for mixing him so low in the first place. And those who worried that Tony Banks' heavy involvement with this project would mean that Steve Hackett's guitars were put even FURTHER down in the mix (shades of Seconds Out!) will thrill to "Eleventh Earl Of Mar," where Steve's guitar solo now positively SHREDS. I don't approve of every remix - "Follow You Follow Me" loses the enveloping soupy warmth that made it originally so appealing - but for the most part Genesis fans are gonna love this "new look" into some of the band's finest work.
However, I would like to alert potential buyers (who are all, let's face it, hardcore Genesis yobbos like me) to a wonderful surprise hidden away on the "bonus" disc of this set: the versions of "Submarine" and "It's Yourself" are different than those found on the Archive set. "Submarine" is restored to its original single mix (with the "hard" ending; the Archives set had a different version that simply faded out). More importantly, the band has quietly restored a missing verse from "It's Yourself" that was otherwise only available on hissy bootleg outtakes from the Trick Of The Tail sessons. I'll also note that while the remixes make many of these songs sound different, Nick Davis has taken particular liberties with the B-sides disc, although thankfully the two songs that were missing from the Archives #2 set ("Match Of The Day," "Me And Virgil") haven't been tampered with.
Anyway, more later. Just wanted to leave a heads-up on this unexpected bonus for Amazon buyers.
Fantastic - enjoying every track!.......2007-06-19
Was skeptical that the "remasters" would sound any different than the original recordings. I have to tell you that the tracks sound fresh and different - small things like percussive instruments, layers of vocals, and small vocal nuances are VERY different - Phil's voice is clear and placed much higher in the mix than the original recordings allowed. I hear different / new sounds on every track. Differences are most pronounced when listening to the DTS recordings (multi-channel, 96-bit!). WORTH EVERY PENNY - actually a steal at the price considering every album is included in both a CD and multi-channel DVD. The included video clips are just icing on the cake. If you love the band, and know the tracks well, you will be happy with your decision to buy..
Turn It On Again And Again..........2007-06-09
This domestic Rhino 6 CD+DVD set-Genesis 1976-1982 contains a SACD layer- is the first of the forthcoming box sets covering large swaps of albums by rock supergroup Genesis. The set covers the period just after the band's frontman Peter Gabriel left and drummer Phil Collins became the lead singer(1976's "A Trick Of The Tail")up to the point when they were a mainstream pop-rock trio-guitarist Steve Hackett departed after 1977's "Wind And Wuthering"- and MTV dawned(1981's "Abacab"). The individual DVDs contain videos(in 5.1 sound),live concerts, and revealing interviews with the band members. It also contains a bonus 13-track CD+DVD featuring B-sides and songs from EP's and a colorful 48-page booklet to hold them. The remixed, remastered sound quality( by Grammy-winning engineer Nick Davis) on the CD,Dolby Digital and DTS are all excellent. The albums sound like they were recorded just today, not 25-30 years ago!Of course, these albums are some of Genesis's best work like the aftermetioned three and 1978's "And Then There Were Three..." and 1980's "Duke".This set just gave me a much greater realization and apprecitation of Genesis's music during this period than any of the previous CD masterings ever did.The only disappointment I have with this set is the absence of the SACD layer, presumbly because Rhino's parent company Warner doesn't support the format, and that the SACD itself failed to take off in the States, sadly. But that's a minor quibble considering that the formats here are more accessible to most buyers.Kudos to the folks that put this wonderful thing together!

Customer Reviews:
Sounds like a cheap plastic toy.......2007-06-20
I have these DVD's and I can tell you that they will not be a huge part of my baby's development. I received them as a gift from someone that thinks that all you need to do is plunk your child in front of a TV all day without giving the baby any attention. You can see why these DVD's are popular at Day Care Centers or what I like to call, "Concentration camps for baby's with lazy parents", because they know that they can sit their kid/baby in front of the TV and let them turn into a thoughtless zombie while they listen to Baby Einstein totally ruin classics by Bach and DeBussy by playing the music with very cheap midi keyboards. I can get better quality music by whistling Dixie with a mouth-full of saltine crackers.
Also, it has been proven that classical music has nothing to do with the cognitive development of young people. Now, teach them how to play piano or violin and you have yourself an actual YOUNG EINSTEIN, but listening to this kind of music does nothing for the development of the brain. It is just for lazy parents that can't sit down with their kids and play with them or read them a book.
would make you sleepy.........2007-06-15
its a good product with very fine music and my toddler realizes that it is sleep time, if I play it. he goes to bed and sleeps after a couple songs. I have trouble in some songs are some months.. dont know why.
Kid's Music.......2007-06-08
I bought this CD for my grandniece, but after listening to it, I determined that no one would ever play this for her except me. I would have kept it for myself but I have the grown-up versions of each of the classical masterpieces on this CD. So, I ended up returning it for a full refund. If you want your kids to be exposed to classicl music, it's a great buy. But if you don't think they will get to listen to it, don't waste your time.
Baby Einstein: Lullaby Classics
Not soothing.......2007-06-07
These synthesizer versions of classical songs get really old, really fast. Worse yet, the songs are sometimes not soothing at all, especially the very first song. The song seems to get particularly loud and uptempo, which is precisely what you don't expect in a lullaby. Please listen to the sample of the first song at least before you buy.
Great for bedtime, but wish it were a real piano.......2007-06-01
This CD worked great to put my daughter to sleep while I rocked her in my arms, and I enjoyed the choices of songs and the arrangements. However, I would have preferred that real instruments were used.

Mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel may have laid the physical cornerstones of Las Vegas, but it was Francis Albert Sinatra who gave Sin City its swinging musical soul. Spanning a quarter century, this four-CD-plus-bonus-DVD collection of previously unreleased recordings captures spirited Sinatra shows at the Sands, Caesar's, and Golden Nugget--performances that initially underscore the salutary effect the desert playground had on the singer's muse, then warmly chronicle the autumn years of a triumphant career. A pair of '60s gigs at the Sands (of which Sinatra was part owner) capture an artist still building on his musical legacy in the midst of rock's rising fortunes. The 1961 show turns on the riches of his Capitol years, a musically straightforward set that balances the singer's interpretations of reflective material like "Moonlight in Vermont" and "In the Still of the Night" with upbeat, typically playful renditions of such Sinatra signatures as "Young at Heart," "The Lady Is a Tramp," and "Witchcraft."
But it's the '66 performance that may be the most intriguing for Sinatraphiles: A live workout with Count Basie and his orchestra that eschews the singer's mid-decade comeback hits--and even material from the recent Sinatra-Basie collaboration--in favor of a sassy set that's less summit meeting than swinging soirée, a freewheeling highlight reel from his back catalog that finds singer and band engaging each other with playful, often dizzy abandon. The anthology's '82 and '87 sets from Caesar's and the Golden Nugget, respectively, aren't nearly as musically challenging, showcasing a vocalist and still-boisterous crowd-pleaser who might have stopped breaking musical ground, yet never ceased reveling in the glories--and laughs--he could still bring to the moment. Rat Pack partner in crime Dean Martin stops by Caesar's for some good-natured razzing, while daughter Nancy guests on the set's lovably ditzy take on "Somethin' Stupid." The bonus DVD captures another unreleased rarity, an entire May 1978 Caesar's gig taped by CBS during a period when the singer had largely retreated from the spotlight. While his voice sometimes betrays the ravages of time on these later performances, Sinatra's mercurial humor and indomitable spirit simply spirit won't be denied. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
Sinatra on stage.......2007-06-27
Very disappointed w/album. Band much too loud, overpowered Sinatra & his swearing was just too much. I've always enjoyed all of Sinatra...he's very special. But this was certainly a big disappointment.
"IT".......2007-05-28
If you have ever wondered what "IT" is, just listen to Sinatra live! The man, simply put, cannot be beat, and this box set proves that without any doubt whatsoever.
You see, I became addicted to Sinatra about ten years ago after hearing one of his songs at the end of a movie (it was like I was hearing music for the first time). About ten thousand albums later I ran across this little gem. I will admit that I was a tad bit skeptical before I bought this set. I thought there wouldn't be much new to hear here. I couldn't have been more mistaken. The sound quality is great, the bands swing, and Sinatra is doing what he does best, being Sinatra. It really doesn't matter how many times you have heard Frank sing these songs. When he sings them live it is like you are hearing them for the first time all over again. First a smile will appear on your face. Next the foot will start tapping out the beat. Before you know it, you will be standing there with a microphone (remote control) putting on the show yourself. You would think that you would have to give up something more than just money to get this kind of satisfaction.
What I am trying to say is buy this set. You will be transported back to a time when optimism ruled America, gas was 15 cents per gallon, and you actually had to have talent to make it in show biz. There is a reason why people will still be listening to Frank in a hundred years and will have never even heard the name Britney Spears, IT! I don't mean that facetiously. I mean that abruptly. Buy the box set, and you will understand.
Would rate it 10 stars if possible!.......2007-05-16
This set is only for Sinatra fanatics. And yes, there are many of us. The tracks include many live dates, including his between-song chats. Frank always credits the composers and/or the arrangers of each tune. What a class act and what a wonderful way to keep him in our lives and hearts. This set is a MUST!!!!!!!!
Sinatra Vegas.......2007-05-13
As a Sinatraaddict all I can say is the cd's were great but the dvd was fantistic
essential for Sinatra fans only.......2007-04-30
This set contains four CD's and 1 DVD; from 1961, 1965, 1982, 1987, and 1978. The two early concerts reveal Sinatra in all of his brilliance; the later ones are hardly worth a listen, with the exception of a few songs here and there.
Sinatra is at his peak in the 1961 and 1966 shows. The real revelation for me in the 1961 performance is the wild galloping version of "On the Road to Mandalay" which is just sensational. The gong at the end really swings. The 1966 concert at the Sands consists of alternative takes of the previously released "Sinatra at the Sands" album. It's interesting to compare and contrast the familiar versions of songs with the versions here. In most cases, they're almost as good and could have easily fit on the originally released album.
While most of the songs are one-offs, for Sinatra fans, it's also interesting to compare the duplicates to see how he gradually began to sing with much more of a kick. "You Make Me Feel So Young" is a perfect example. The arrangement in the 1961 version closely resembles Nelson Riddle's arrangement on "Songs for Swingin' Lovers," though Sinatra swings the original arrangement just a little harder. By 1966, Quincy Jones has rearranged the song to match the drive of the Basie band, and it goes from being a very good performance to a genuinely great one.
I don't think Sinatra ever really got his voice back after he took an early retirement in 1971, and by the late seventies, his voice could no longer do what he needed it to do. It is true that his interpretive skills were as good as ever, but in a live setting you hear him constantly trying to sing around the deficiencies in his voice, and it's distracting. He sounds OK on the less rangy songs where he doesn't have to sustain notes, but I find myself constantly comparing the ballads to earlier better versions, and they don't come off well. There are exceptions. I liked "I Get Along Without You Very Well," surely one of the most beautiful songs ever written which he sings in almost a whisper.
Musically, the DVD is the weakest of the set; the most interesting part of it is watching Sinatra get ready for the concert, and interact with his fans, including a young, obviously awestruck boxer. One thing that's always fascinated me about Sinatra is the contrast between his remarkable singing and his occasionally churlish behavior, on stage and off. Some of that churlishness is evident here as when he takes rude and mostly unfunny shots at a variety of show business folks and long-dead gossip columnist.
If you're a big fan of Sinatra, this is a worthwhile purchase. If you're a casual fan or you want to see what the fuss is about, buy the much cheaper "Sinatra at the Sands" and go on from there. If you want to see Sinatra in concert, see his superior Royal Festival Hall concert in London from just before his retirement, also available on DVD.

As Basil Bunting wrote about Ezra Pound's Cantos, "There are the Alps... you will have to go a long way round/if you want to avoid them." Led Zeppelin's work is the central fact of 1970s rock & roll; in its loving homage to and shameless piracy from the blues, its glorious and wretched excess, its transformation of hippie and folk-rock graces into a foundation-shaking kaboom, and its offhanded myth-making, the band turned everything caught in its wake into a reaction to it--or against it. The three non-album tracks the box includes are grace notes rather than lost jewels, but the point of the set is to be a Rosetta stone of album rock, the stairway to a gaudy paradise that they constructed. --Douglas Wolk
Customer Reviews:
Your one-stop Zep shop!.......2007-05-01
I got this because after all the years of playing just made my vinyl too noisy to convert to CD, and at around average cost of $9 a CD (it's a 9 album 10 CD set), it would have cost me at least $8-9 per CD plus shipping. The way the CD's are in a sleeve (like the albums were) was kind of neat, and the storage case keeps all the CD packaging in one spot with the booklet. Also that 2 CD's are in each "album" is an innovative packaging idea and it has everything that each LP had as far as artwork goes. I would suggest to any Zep fan that doesn't have a lot of their CD's go this route as it will save you money in the long run. And the re-masters sound great. A few of the bonus tracks on the "CODA" CD are pretty decent, but the fact you can get all their studio stuff new for under $100 I think is awesome!
Glorious that just doesn't cut it, Speechless is more like it........2007-03-07
These guys are the masters, the reigning kings of Hard Rock. Every gem is in this box set. Granduer, awesomeness and epic could be a couple of words to describe this box set, all I've got to say is buy it for your self, it will change your life. There was a time when I lost my job and I had to sell most of my record collection to make ends meet. Out of my whole collection I wouldn't give this up. This set got me through that peroid and also got me through other tough peroids in my life.
This box set chronciles the bands starting, up to its monarch like ascent and then to its fall when Bonzo died. All the albums are here in a 10 Box Set. Dazed and Confused, Ramble On, Misty Mountain Hop, Black Dog, Rock n'Roll, Stairway To Heavan, Achille's Last Stand, Candy Shop Rock, Kashmir, and Ozone Baby all those juicy bits are here a song for each mood. Led Zep's influences are easily seen here, garage rock, psychedelia, progressive, Rockabilly, country and of course the greatest influence the Blues. I often wonder if there is in any truth in the myth the band sold their souls to the Dark One because such mind numbing talent is almost beyond the pale of reality. I'm telling you get this set no music lover will be disapponited. Absolutely Awesome. Has 4 bonus tracks never released "Baby Come On Home", "Travelling Riverside Blues", "White Summer/Black Mountain Side", and "Hey Hey What Can I Do?" all songs in the blues vein and take their place besides the other greats. There is also a book of liner notes written by Cameron Crowe that have bits of interviews with the band and info on some of the songs. All in all this is a must have for any Zep head or person who apperciates good music.
Can't Get Any Better Than This.......2007-01-20
This is the best boxed set in music history by the greatest rock band in music history. Too bad they did not include The Song Remains the Same and How the West Was Won to it.
My only problem with this set is that my red aussie cattle dog ate the slipcase for Led Zeppelin III and IV and I cannot replace it. So I have a nice set with nice double slipcases and one eaten by my dog. At least she has taste huh? P.S. The cds are still good.
LED ZEPPELIN Collection.......2007-01-10
Simply wonderful. Exactly what I was waiting and hoping for. Excelent package and sound quality.
The best rock band of all time.......2007-01-09
This is the best box set I own. I absolutely love Led Zeppelin and all of their albums are in here. Well worth the money.

As the music and legacies of various rock legends--Elvis, the Beatles, the Stones, Dylan, the Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen--have been thoroughly celebrated, analyzed, and overanalyzed by rock critics, fans, and reissuers, the Four Seasons--New Jersey's premiere pop act before Springsteen or Bon Jovi--remained grossly overlooked and underappreciated. To the uninformed, their pre-Beatles roots--stretching back to the doo-wop era--or sure slickness might have fostered the misconception they were somehow less "hip." Musicians, however, knew better. Dylan, Springsteen, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, and Brian Wilson among them thoroughly understood and appreciated the Seasons' vision, centered around their harmonies, Frankie Valli's vocal virtuosity, and the stellar work of songwriter-organist Bob Gaudio who, with producer Bob Crewe, created the now-classic Seasons sound, which withstood Beatlemania and everything afterward. The recent Tony Award-winning musical Jersey Boys helped sweep aside those decades of neglect by reintroducing the Four Seasons to a new audience. Rhino's magnificent package--four CDs on 84 tracks and a DVD of rare performances--explores the music that inspired it all, beginning with their 1962 debut hit "Sherry," through magnificent, timeless mini-dramas like "Dawn," "Rag Doll," and "C'mon Marianne" and tongue-in-cheek efforts like their version of Dylan's "Don't Think Twice (It's All Right)" by the "Wonder Who." Along with various rarities, the collection includes Valli's solo hits. "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" and "Swearin' to God" reaffirm his stature as one of that era's great vocalists. The DVD includes performances from a 1963 Steve Allen show and a 1971 appearance on Britain's Top of the Pops. --Rich Kienzle

Customer Reviews:
A feast for your listening and viewing pleasure.......2007-06-25
It is all here in one place, the greatest of the 4 Seasons. Enjoy 3 CDs with the best audio quality that I have heard to date. The mixing of the vocals is excellent, just as you remembered them on all of the 4 Seasons' hit and b-sides. Actually any of the b-sides here could just as well been a hit. There is something wonderful in the order of the play list of the songs in this compilation. They flow together beautifully. You'll experience hours of listening enjoyment. It is also very interesting to see how the music of the Seasons has matured over the years, while the early songs, such as Sherry, still having a "spine-tingling" timeless impact on the listener. Close you eyes and enjoy the past several decades of beautiful music. Do your self a huge favor and listen to the cut "Hope and Glory" several times. It is Bob Gaudio's and Frankie Valli sharing the lead. This could easily become a big hit single for the Seasons in this decade, given the proper airplay. Also be sure to treasure the DVD which takes you from the original Seasons with Nick Massi and then the fabulous Joe Long, through the later group members such as Don Ciccone and Gerry Polci. I promise that you will be thrilled that you purchased this extraordinary collection.
YES!!!!.......2007-06-24
Let me start by I was born in Jersey in 1983. But I grew up to the sounds of WCBSFM 101.1 from NYC. This of course included many of The Four Season's Hits. I have an original vinyl copy of Gold Vault of Hits that, for a while, constantly played in my parent's turntable. I love The Four Seasons. This collection should be in every home in America (and around the world). It allows me to discover even more songs that until now I didn't know existed. BUY THIS COLLECTION. As far as I'm concerned, it's a steal at this price.
Oh BOY. Wow.......2007-06-15
Let me say I really was not a Four Seasons fan until Jersey boys. Hey I grew up in the 80's and they really peaked in the 60's- 70's. I saw Jersey boys and was hooked. I just bought this collection and have played it over and over. I wish I grew up in the 60's and 70's. I especially like the Down the Hall song, Rapsody and Streetfighter. I am in a band and we actually think Down the hall fits todays sound and plan on covering it. I am still blown away by this collection, and some of the music here I have never heard of and love the lyrics and the songwriting. That Bob Guadio was amazing. And I never was a fan of Frankie Valli (Grease), but now I wish I had seen him perform. His DVD vocal on Working my way back to you is as powerful a vocal as I have ever heard any singer perform. Kodos to Frankie Valli.
Just Spectacular .......2007-06-14
This is the best collection of this magnificient group yet. Rhino and all involved need to be commended. There are very few rock & roll groups that can even come close to the quanity and quality of songs, as represented here. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons are finally getting the respect they deserve and have earned.
The packaging is top quality. The three cds, dvd and booklet are chock-full of goodies (as noted in other reviews).
My only gripe are a few missing songs. Like the hard to find "Cry For Me" which is featured in Jersey Boys, as well as "Danger" (their best non-hit) "We Can Work It Out" "Big Man's World" "Down The Hall" "An Angel Cried" "Show Girl" and "The Touble With Me." Even with these oversights, it still gets a 5-star rating from me.
A REAL revelation, honest to gosh...the east coast Beach Boys perhaps???.......2007-06-08
This set literally blew me away...literally, like where was I??!!?? I have to be honest, I saw this set and thought, hmmmm, nice packaging, then I saw it for a great price, so I thought I'd bite. Rhino recently put out the 2CD "Definitive Pop Collection", which was decent, but I thought a better collection could be done...then I saw this set.
Now, I figured, I wanted a well-done proper anthology of their work, so I can put it all into proper perspective. I knew, and loved, a bunch of their hits, and Frankie's solo hits, but not them all, so I wanted to hear them all, in chronological order. I originally thought Frankie and the Jersey boys to be prefabricated, with songs by outside songwriters, and no more than a guilty pleasure. I figured, if I didn't enjoy it, I knew I can sell it to a friend who loves their work.
Well, I opened it up first and went right to the 84-page booklet, nicely put together by-the-way. Saw the main essay was written by none other than Dennis Diken from one of my fave powerpop bands, New Jersey's own Smithereens!!! It's well-written and VERY insightful. THEN, I saw all the tributes under each of the songs, by everyone cool, from Little Steven Van Zandt (from Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band, the Sopranos and his own Underground Garage radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio), UK guitarist Johnny Marr (From the Smiths, Pretenders, The The and now Modest Mouse), Brian Wilson, Cher, Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, Joe Pesce, Billy Joel, even Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, and a ton of others...so I couldn't wait to listen.
Oh...My...Gosh. I was floored. One thing I didn't know...pretty much ALL the songs were written by the band's keyboardist Bob Gaudio...he was the Brian Wilson of the band, him and genius producer Bob Crewe. Frankie Valli, even though he wasn't a songwriter, he had a voice like an alien, almost a freak of nature, unique and finely-tuned...one part classic crooner, one part rock & roller. Vocally, the 4 Seasons were like the Beach Boys, similar influences and the way the band evolved. The productions were very ARTFUL. Radio did this band no favours. They didn't show the band from an artistic angle, just a hitbound one, which is a bad thing. As the band evolved and became less commercial, the hits dried up, but they became better, musically. They even dabbled in psychedelia in 1968/1969, with their artistic masterpiece, the album "Genuine Imitation Life Gazette", which sold a little, not as much as their prior work, and most people don't know the genius level at work on this opus. It's their equivalent of "Sgt Pepper's", "Pet Sounds", "Smile", "Head", "Odessa", "Battle Of The Bands", etc, you get my drift.
Even after the band hit a dry period and Bob became just the band's songwriter behind the scenes, and 4 new 4 Seasons were indoctrinated, the band evolved even further on the "Who Loves You" and "Helicon" albums in the mid-to-late 70s. As the 4 Seasons entered the 80s and 90s and now, they never stopped growing, but records appeared less frequently. Frankie's solo work always was of a high quality as well, but different from the band's. Now, with the Broadway show "Jersey Boys" playing to sellout crowds, the genius of their work will finally be appreciated and will garner their due...it did from me, but I don't feel guilty though, I blame radio, ESPECIALLY oldies stations, for this heinous crime against this great band.
This genius group is well-documented on this packed-to-the-gills 3CD/1DVD boxset. All 3 CDs are 79 minutes and change, so they are filled to the brim with no room for more, with 99% of their charting hits, B-sides, overlooked album tracks and rarities, all in proper perspective. The 4th disc, a DVD, is a nice 40-minute souvenir, with TV appearances, live concert clips and 3 promo vidclips from the mid-to-late 70s. What struck me was that up until 1975, the band didn't have a drummer (and no drummer appeared with them on TV either...just studio drummers on their recordings)...usually, I'd say this is a bad thing, but then again, ABBA didn't have a drummer in their lineup, just studio players. Also, Frankie was VERY low-key and modest, and in the mid-70s, he went from a Wayne Newton look (that moustache, ouch!!) to almost Eric Carmen-ish during the comeback. And, in the mid-70s lineup, their DRUMMER was their lead singer on "December, 1963"!!! Interesting.
Anyhoo, one of the most revelatory boxsets I've ever heard in my life, and I now count them up there with the Beach Boys and Byrds as one of THE best, most innovative pop/even powerpop bands that ever was...AND finally, with many acts around this long, a boxset would be enough, all you would need in your collection...nope, with these fellas, I WANT THE CATALOGUE, and I saw their 24(!) studio albums (band and FV solo) were reissued on Collector's Choice as remastered 2-fers in 2006, so I will buy those, probably the first one being "Working My Way Back To You/Genuine Imitation Life Gazette".
Investigate pronto...and prepare to be floored...I was, and I thought they were cheese originally. NO WAY!!! One of America's true treasures, and NOTHING is subpar or 2nd rate, even their 80s and 90s work!!!

Here are the original monsters of rock in all their epic, bombastic glory. The Who may have had more decibels (a dubious distinction), but no band took hard rock higher into the stratosphere than the Zep did with their cosmic mixture of deep blues, gothic melodrama, and the supernatural chops of Page, Plant, Bonham, and Jones. For listeners new to the Zep canon, there's no better primer of the band's range and power than this 4 CD box set, compiled and remixed in 1990 by Page himself. All the obvious song choices are here. But even if you've already heard "Black Dog" once too often on the car radio, this set wisely spotlights several overlooked gems, including their ultimate blues lament "I'm Gonna Crawl." It's a blueprint that later generations of head-bangers tragically failed to follow. --Steve Appleford

Most overplayed band in history.......2007-07-10
Why do people play or like LZ so much? I really think they are one of the worst bands ever. I hear them all the time on the radio, why, why why why why why WHY????????? Why do they pay so much attention??? Why do their albums sell???? The lead singer Plant is the most overrated singer of all time and he just screams and this is just baby talk. I started crying after hearing a LZ song on the radio F.E.O.. Why do I never hear the greatest band Metallica on the radio, they are a much better band than LZ, considering them they have a great drummer in Lars and a great guitar player in hammett. F*#%%K LED ZEPPELIN FOREVER. I AM GLAD THEY DISBANDED.
The really GREAT bands are
Metallica
Van Halen
ZZ Top
Dire Straits
Bad Company
George Thorogood
Foreigner
Bon Jovi
Jimi Hendrix
The Beatles
Tom Petty
Joe Walsh
Kansas
The Clash
The really BAD bands are
Led Zeppelin
U2
Queen
Iron Maiden
The Who
Boston
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Best of Zeppelin.......2007-06-30
I once owned (and subsequently lost) every Zeppelin album ever recorded, and I was looking to replace my collection when I saw this. All their huge hits (with one exception, see below) are here, as well as songs you probably haven't heard of, but once you listen to them, they'll be a permanent fixture on your I-pod. My mp3 player has only a paltry 2 gigs (which sounded like all the space I'd ever need when I bought it, but I've since discovered that no matter how much space you have, it isn't enough), so I couldn't fit the entire studio recordings on it, but this selection is most likely what I'd have on their. It is missing a couple good songs, as is usually the case with compilations, but while some songs such as "Four Sticks", "You Shook Me," and the "Lemon Song" are forgivable, the absence of "Good Times Bad Times" is pretty inexcusable, hence only four stars instead of five.
Essential for the Zepplin Fan.......2007-06-09
This is an essential for all Led Zepplin fans, unless of course, you already own each individual CD, and then you should buy this just to put into your car CD for long roadtrips. This is the second time I've purchased this set, I think my ex got the first one, and I'd give it as a gift too! Since Led Zepplin isn't selling their music individually online (at least not that will work on my Dell DJ), I needed this for mixing my favorite Zepplin Tunes.
music lovers listen.......2007-02-20
short and sweet. i love led zepplin and would have been dissapointed with anything else. the book and cds are in immaculate comdition.
The Best of Everything.......2006-11-05
This is everything you want in a Zeppelin collection and more. Awesome, and comes with a history book too. Excellent buy.

It seems impossible to avoid the fusion and clash of cultures in world music these days. Connectivity means it's all within your (everyone else's) reach. Here on their second album, Nu Med, Balkan Beat Box continue to play at the nexus of Eastern European, klezmer, Arabic, hip-hop, rock and electronic music. Headed by Israelis Tamir Muskat (drums, programming) and Ori Kaplan (saxophone), the band's sound is far from forced, easily summing up the musicians' lives in their homeland as well as their current experiences living in New York City. As with all great folk songs, the melodies are insistently catchy enough to get listeners to sing or hum along before the song ends. Highlights include the Saharan dancehall cut "Digital Monkey," the insistent "bbbeat," and the Dead Sea surf guitar sound of "Joro Boro," which features singer Dessislava Stefanova. Like the first album, this one is as fun as it is far reaching. --Tad Hendrickson
Customer Reviews:
This is a fantastic album!.......2007-07-09
How do you top an album that starts off with a rooster crowing? With a Digital Monkey, of course! After having listened to the first Balkan Beat Box cd quite a lot for the past year, I wasn't sure if Nu Med would live up to my expectations. It absolutely DOES. The band's second effort may actually be stronger, throwing even more varied influences into the music and keeping it really tight while picking up the energy from their live sets. They're all good tracks, at the moment, my faves are Joro Boro, Mexico City and Hermetico. This cd should carry a warning that it will make you dance whenever you hear it (and sometimes even if you only hear it in your head).
the sequel might be better than the original.......2007-05-24
Balkan Beat Box's self-titled debut was terrific, but after listening to Nu Med, the first BBB disc seems almost like a test run to make sure this crazy mash of balkan folk, Jewish and Middle Eastern melodies, beats, pieces, party horns and snippets of politics could actually work. And did it work.
In this record, they've firmly established their groove and the sound here is a more complete package. (And more hilarious cover art: I'm a fan of the parachuting camels motif.) It's also more lyric-heavy than the first one, and filled with live snippets and clips of cheering crowds from tours past, adding to the infectious flavor of the record. At 14 tracks, it probably runs a couple numbers too long, but I'm hard-pressed to tell you which ones should have been cut, because they're all good. If you liked the original Balkan Beat Box, you will like this. And if you don't know BBB yet you can start with this record or the debut without missing out. But you're probably going to end up owning both, like me, because this is some of the most exciting and energetic music being made today.

"Totally Gnarly" or "Gag me with a Spoon"?.......2007-05-31
Some of the greatest moments of my life were in high school!! The mid 80's when I was carefree and lived life unfettered! No bills, no boss, no cares! Just me and my pastel suits and thin leather ties and full head of hair....(Man, I actually WORE those suits?!?!)
Fond nostalgia aside, the whole 'retro' thing is forcing the 80's upon us once again and you might as well admit that you were one of the characters from The Breakfast Club! (Mmmmmm....Ally Sheedy.)
Dropping these discs into my player and hitting shuffle just makes it all come flooding back!
But to tell a shameful truth? I really HAD to buy this set because of "Pac-Man Fever" by Buckner and Garcia and "Sweetheart" by Franke & the Knockouts. I've never seen these songs anywhere else!
I'm not sure I even looked at the other songs before my credit card was being swiped by the good folks at Amazon!!
So, yeah, again, I bought on impulse but I damn sure don't regret it!! In fact, I'd suggest we embrace the "ME, ME, ME" decade just once more and "BUY, BUY, BUY" this set.
If you went to high school in the 80's like I did, simply put, this will bring back some great memories.
(Unless, of course, your high school years sucked. To which, I say, "That's too bad. I'm sorry for you.")
Either way, just admit that the 80's were a great time for music and pastel suits and thin leather ties.........(chicks dig the thin tie still, right? Right? Anybody? Can I get a witness?)
Where's Don Johnson when I need him?
Oh, here he is....Disc 6, Song 19!
Time Warp.......2007-05-23
I guess only someone who was a teen or 20something could really appreciate
this set. The 80s were my high school and college years and I was
certainly guilty of listening to the radio .... This set is awesome and
is really made indispensable with the booklet. My only gripe lies with
the artists that were huge in the 80s, but evidently could not be licensed
for this set....Notably U2, REM, Hoodoo Gurus, Wall of Voodoo, etc
Shut up!.......2007-03-04
Like, for sure, half of it is like totally major gross-out, but the other half is like bitchin! Just shut up already and buy it!
missing tracks.......2007-02-26
lots of great 80's music available in these cds, but missing one of the greatest groups of the decade...Wham!
Excellent CD Set!.......2007-01-18
I purchased this set for my 13 year old daughter. It seems the 80's are making a big comeback. She loves it! I love it, too!! It has all the most popular songs from the 80's plus a few you do not hear anywhere now. It's great! It brings back a lot of memories, GOOD TIMES!!
