Best I've ever heard.......2006-04-12
The Prague String Quartet's maniacal precision in its performance of String Quartet No. 12 [the "American" Quartet] seems to me the finest chamber performance I've ever heard.

Magnificent Voice/Stellar Songwriting.......2005-12-19
I happened upon Kristin Banks' "City of Angels" download available on Amazon.com and decided to listen. What I heard was astounding. She possesses a strong voice, with a soulfull quality, and writes songs of feeling and depth. I was hooked. I bought the "House of Echoes" album, which isn't easy since it is unavailable except in the second-hand market. I was not disappointed. All of the songs are stunning. My personal favorite is "Another Woman's Dream," which is moving and poignant and upbeat and sad all at the same time. I highly recommend this album.
What's NOT to like about this album?.......2001-03-31
The song These Dreams Of Mine alone is worth the price, but there's a lot to love about Kristin Banks' House of Echoes. With a soul-filled alto voice that soars into the rafters while it sticks to your ribcage, Kristin Banks delivers her young life's work with conviction and emotion. Her lyrics are wholesome and heartfelt, but delivered with a forceful kick. You'll git all goose-pimply. She's a warm hug, a lullaby kiss, and just what the doctor ordered after a long hard stress-filled day. Her swirling instrumentation transcends words and builds abstract structures in the mind's eye. Close your eyes and feel lifted up above storm clouds by feather-wings. What genre is she? Well some would pigeonhole her as country, but truth to tell this album pulls from the best of a number of different genres including Pop, Country, Soul, Rock, Folk, and Blues. If you only like one of those genres, you'll like Kristin Banks. If you enjoy two or more of those styles of music, you will instantly fall in love with her. Her voice and composition would be equally at home on a motion picture soundtrack and in a deep south summer revival church service. Her commercial appeal is undeniable. Why this woman isn't the talk of the planet offline is anyone's guess. Shania Twain? Your days are numbered. There's a new kid in town. I've had my copy for a year and still listen to it periodically. I highly recommend you buy a copy today. Make House Of Echoes a Jewel In Your Crown.
Talent PLUS!.......2000-06-30
I found Kristin on MP3.com as many others did. Not only did I but the CD I bought more to share as gifts for family and friends. The messages of the songs are as good and as real as the music. Kristin has it all. Why she is not more well known is a mystery to me. All the tracks are as good or better than the samples and I'm sure you'll have a favorite.
Fantastic.......2000-03-21
Kristin's voice is superb and never falters during any of the songs. I particularly like "Jewel in your Crown" and "Another Women's Dream". All songs not only sound great, but the lyrics and well thought out, emotional and I found them very personal to me. I only wish I had the opportunity to see Kristin live, as being down under is a little prohibitive.
Incredible.......2000-03-08
I saw Kristin Banks open for Lowen & Navarro recently (they were awesome, as they always are). I'd never heard of her before that. Kristin only did about five songs, and the vocals were mixed too low, making her hard to understand. But even so I could tell that Kristin was something special. I bought her CD at the concert and have been playing it almost non-stop. She is a beautiful lady with, as another review said, the voice of an angel. So when she comes across with lyrics like, "But how do you linger, in the innocence lost, when love has been tainted and your boundaries crossed?" it hits hard. If this lady doesn't find her place in popular music among artists like Celine Dion, Sarah McLachlan, and Loreena McKennett it will be nothing short of a tragedy.

Album Description
Tired of This Exile is a part of the rich harvest from James Faulkner's musical wanderings along and across the frontiers of Europe and North America. It features songs from his youth in the north of England, Gaelic songs from his lengthy sojourns in the west of Scotland and Ireland, and French-language songs picked up as a graduate student in Quebec.
Tired of this Exile is a truly international effort. Recorded in Switzerland, its appearance in the United States is due to a lucky meeting between James and Bedlam House's Bill Sutton during an Irish seisíun in a pub in Grenoble.
Unabashedly poetic from wistful memory to conditional commentary, Tired of This Exile reflects the unique perspective of an international wanderer. Traditional and modern folk songs are combined with original works in a compilation that changes languages as smoothly as it changes moods.
Customer Reviews:
Not Tired of This Disc.......2005-03-09
I'm generally not a big fan of folk music but this CD is really very good. I bought it on a recommendation of a friend and the first time I listened to it, The Great Train Robbery really struck me as a catchy modern ballad. As I listened more carefully I was drawn to the nuances of the instrumentation on the more traditional music which fuses a wide range of songs with imaginative accompanyment, strong guitar and passionate singing. I'd never hear of this guy before but I hope to hear more soon.
Inspiring..........2004-05-11
I'm sitting at my desk, facing my computer.
Listening to your CD.
Feel like a fish, surrounded by these windows.
Listening to your CD.
Can see the tops of some green leafy trees.
Would even hear the singings of the small birds outside, if there weren't these windows.
Listening to your CD.
The aquarium is even too big for me, too white, too light, much too urban. Too Parisian.
Listening to your CD.
I'm not tired of my exile yet.
Want to go on travelling the world, fly away. But fishes commonly have no wings.
And I stay here inside my aquarium. Comfortably fed by their well-meaning hands.
Listening to your CD.
Get some inspiration but can't write it down right now. Need a better surrounding. We'll see.
So I just stay here, listening to your CD.
And go back to work.

Customer Reviews:
Evocative, erotic and very modern........1999-01-11
This is a very interesting collection of works by contemporary New York composers. All are written for a chorus accompanied by a string quartet plus one other instrument (percussion in the case of the Cipullo and a harp in the case of the Wagoner). All have a sharp modern sensibility, and deal with the themes of love and eroticism.
Beyond that the pieces differ. The Cipullo pieces are rhythmic and lively, De Blasio's are sometimes frighteningly intense, while Wagoner's longer work has more of an elegiac quality. All of the works are well worth trying.
