Lorena Butts - The Session, August 1998
This peaceful album makes you feel good, blending warm acoustic guitars, Deanne's smooth-as silk vocals, superb songwriting and musicianship that the duo has become known for. Alternating between instrumentals and vocal pieces, there are no weak tracks on this album. Their second release, Dreams in a Dryland should surpass their fans' expectations, and is a must-listen for anyone who appreciates beautiful songs and find performances.

A summer breeze across the praires.......2000-07-06
In concert, Ray's stories are served up as an appetizer to the music and add a personal touch to their songs. It's an easy going stream of information about each of their songs. On the CD, there is an interactive section that you can launch and hear Deanne and Ray talk about their music as though you were sitting in a room with them. You'll quickly be drawn into their music.
Newkirk and Bell's music paints a portrait of the spirit of the west and the Canadian prairies. They are a compelling and captivating folk duo. Deanne's voice is crisp and crystal clear. She possesses both warmth and vibrancy. Deanne reminds me of a warm summer breeze sweeping across the vastness of the Canadian prairies.
I like every song on this CD. And, if I had to choose just one on Dreams in a Dryland, it would be too difficult to pick! My favourite instrumental is The Silk Train! I also loved the feelings in the story Nicolas telling of a first meeting with Deanne's relatives in France. The song Where the Hills are Made of Clay tells of the prairies. And, I love to listen to All of the Reasons with its soft and sad story of a love gone. You will see that all of these songs are written by Newkirk and Bell. You can find out more about each of the songs on the enhanced CD. This CD is something special. I really hope that you enjoy this music as much as I do. It's a keeper.
