About the Artist
DAVID ANTHONY An amazing story!

I know that Bio's are supposed to be short and sweet but David Anthony is a story that deserves to be told in full. His music and talent will more than back this up. He is the epitome of the term "Meant to be"! David was born and raised in McComb Mississippi, the same small town that gave us such music stars as Bo Diddley, Brandy and the great songwriter Dan Tyler . In fact, the song Twenty Years Ago, a number one hit of Kenny Rogers, was written about McComb by Mr. Tyler. There must be something in the water there because now, almost Twenty Years later, McComb gives us David Anthony. David's start in songwriting is amazing in and of itself. Though he played the guitar and showed great musical ability, he opted to pursue an acting career. He landed in Nashville, of all places, to begin this endeavour. He said that he felt that because of all the great players there he knew he would be a better actor than a guitarist. Songwriting never entered his mind. While in Nashville he enjoyed as much success as an actor in Nashville could expect. There were many obstacles, yet he proved himself. He was now ready for the big time in Los Angeles. After moving to L. A. to pursue an acting career, David felt something was missing, not just because he wasn't reaching his goal to be a working actor, but in life. David was given an acoustic guitar by a friend who heard him play and felt that he had talent. His first inspiration in songwriting came when he was visiting her and her six year old daughter for Christmas. The girls father had died when she was only two years old. David was looking at a picture of her father and says that he knew he was looking at a man who was full of love for his wife and daughter. David said, "At that moment an idea for a song came to me. I hadn't written anything worth listening to before that and knew where this one was coming from. It was from him... a message to his little girl to say he was in a good place and to live and love. That's why these folks who I hardly knew had given me this guitar. In some way he helped us all. They received a message from him to be happy and I had been given my calling. Above all else, I am a songwriter."

It is about this time that I met David. He lived in the same building I lived in, and I made the fatal mistake of striking up a conversation with him when I saw him with a guitar case as he was coming home. I explained to him that I was a songwriter, so he asked me to listen to some of his stuff on a four track. I did, and said, "Keep writing"! I didn't hear anything all that spectacular, and when he asked me if we could write together, I made up a bunch of excuses. I, after all, was a professional and couldn't be bothered; so I thought! (David's version of this is more comical.) He kept writing and singing. Six months went by before I talked to him again. Since my apartment was underneath his, I could hear what he was singing. The first thing I noticed was that his voice had improved two hundred percent. The next thing I remember was a tune he was working on that just blew me away. I didnt even care too much for Country Music but when I heard "Wasting Your Time," I, at least, became a fan of David's style of music. I ran up the stairs, knocked on his door and when he answered I said, "That's it!" That was only the beginning. He played me about twenty other songs he had written and I sat there with my mouth wide open. I knew then that I was in the presence of a true genius. I had been writing songs with top writers for years and here was this guy who had only been writing for a short time and was blowing our minds.

Since then David has written one great song after another. He has lost jobs because of it. He had one employer who says that she didn't fire him because he wasn't pulling his weight, she fired him because she knew he was born to write songs and was hoping that he would get the message. Get it, he did! He has over eighty songs to his credit and not one of them makes a listener want to climb under the table. In fact, a third of them are good enough, as they are, to be hits on Country radio, as well as Pop. He can have you Rockin' out and Kicking up your heels one minute and then falling in love with a ballad the next. His versatility is truly amazing!

David is one of the most talented, disciplined and passionate singer/songwriters that I've ever heard and it has been a pleasure in researching his background. I have come to two concrete conclusions about him. First, he's like a box of chocolates; you may not know what you're going to get, but rest assured, it's covered with chocolate. And second, you can take the Boy out of the Country, but you can't take the Country out of the Boy!
