Charley Pride is best known as country music's greatest and most successful black singer. Beyond that monumental achievement, however, he should be recognized for something more: Pride is simply a great country singer, period. His baritone is deceptively smooth--behind his crooning lies a warm and gentlemanly twang that is the expressive equal of most any of his contemporaries. Collecting 12 country hits released between 1966 and '74, Platinum is a swell introduction to his work. Later in his career Charley Pride did a massive recording session where he re-recorded all his biggest hits.

At the time it was well intentioned because almost all of the original versions of these songs were unavailable.

But be forewarned, the songs on this disc are all remakes.

These are re-recordings of Mr. Pride's greatest hits from the late 60's/early 70's. Some of the musicians are the same guys as on the originals recordings. The sound is very good compared with the old ones. And Mr. Pride's smooth, tender baritone just seems to get better with the years. A treat, this one.

charley prides old songs are very good and most of his albums are very good ,but there is one song that I feel was one of his best songs that he ever sang but you can't find it on any of charley pride's albums that are available. the songs title is "momma don't cry for me". hey charley pride please sing it again on another album or release the original song on another hits album. thank you. Charley Pride has been my favorite country singer since I was a little girl. My parents only played country music, so I developed a taste for it (along with other styles). This past weekend my parents took me to see Mr. Pride for my 41st birthday. I cried. His voice is as wonderful in person as it is on this CD. He has the capability to sing his own and other's music with equal talent. You're going to want to add this to your collection . . . and if you ever get the chance, go see him. You won't regret it.

charley had, or i should say still has one of the most beautiful voices to come across the airwaves this century. this cd only exemplifies this in each and every track.

this is a powerful source of country music and the country world needs to know it he has done so much for the industry and should get the recognition deserved he is platinum he is pride he is country pure solid bonifide country you see it in him you hear it in him and it is in him a true country artist i have been a listener to charley pride since he first put out a lp with rca records and i will be his fan until i leave this world my hat is off to you charley.
