NYC NEW Wave, not the 80/90 metal Band.......2007-04-27
Classic new wave power pop from NYC, this has been out of print for decades, other than obscure Italian collection.
2cd set includes both their albums with some bonus live tracks.
Herky jerky rhythms spare muscular guitar bass drums sound with punkish vocals. They almost could be American mods, but guitar sound is cleaner than Who-ish power chords.

Album Description
Highly anticipated two CD set. Not to be confused with the Hard Rock band, Staten Island, New York based power-pop trio Dirty Looks (Patrick Barnes, Peter Parker and Marco Sin) signed to Stiff in 1979 after only 10 gigs and have the unique record of claiming Stiff's biggest ever selling album in the US. Their eponymous debut album was released to positive reviews in August 80 - produced by Tim Friese-Green, it included a duo of great singles in 'Let Go' and 'Lie To Me'. Epic released the album in the US where it sold almost 100,000 copies. The second album, 'Turn It Up', followed 12 months later but only after being recorded twice, by Motors main-man Nick Garvey and Roger Bechirian. Label politics meant that the album never secured a US release and this is first CD release anywhere in the world. This re-release is newly remastered and includes sleeve notes by singer/songwriter guitarist Patrick Briody (aka Patrick Barnes), extra b-sides and singles and four never released live tracks recorded on the Son Of Stiff tour. Dirty Looks were one of the most underrated acts signed to Stiff and one of the most requested re-releases through the recently launched Stiff Records site. 31 tracks. Stiff. 2007.

A Great Soundtrack For a Great Movie!.......2006-04-26
This is probably one of the most complete scores you will ever find for an item, and the songs are all well-written and unique from each other. I will review a few specific tracks:
1. Main Title-The Brave Little Toaster has one of the creepiest intros, panning through the dark woods to find an empty cabin full of seemingly lifeless appliences. This haunting track works very well with it.
3. Blanket's Dream-I'm not keen on them leaving in the dialogue here, as you don't get the whole fantasy scene unless you've seen it. Still, Lampy and Radio's amusing lines are here, which is good.
4. The Air Conditioner Blows-For anyone who was terrified of this scene as a kid, this frantic track does the whole thing justice, with a grim ending.
6. Again, the dialogue and sound effects are left in, but they actually help the humor in this track. Lampy's voice is awsome.
8. City of Light-This is my favorite of all the songs. It's a bright and optimistic ballad-ish song when the appliences set out. They're all good singers, even though Lampy speaks a few of his lines. Very catchy.
10. The Pond-This one has to be heard to be believed. It's sound effects of the pond create lovely music, and the highlight is the opera singing fish (don't ask).
11. Toaster's Dream-I just have to say, this is a really scary track to accompany the scene that probably scared me the most when I was younger. That clown...
19. It's a 'B' Movie-This is a spooky number, and will remind you of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Preformed by the junkshop appliences (and a bit by the core group), it's the first showstopper.
22. Into the City-A Beautiful instrumental version of City of Light.
23. Cutting Edge-A techno number sung by the mean appliences that replaced the old ones. It has great lyrics and sounds just like some commercials from that era.
25. Worthless-A disco style song belted out by the poor cars at the junkyard before they all meet their "deaths" at a trash compactor. Catchy and sad at the same time, and a favorite of many.
26. Finale-A seven minute long song. Ranges from hopeful to frantic to a happy ending.
27. End Title-A very happy song to end the soundtrack.
Buy it now. It's everything you've ever dreamed of on the edge...and more!

Good Stuff.......2000-04-12
I honestly enjoyed this "country" set of BJ's greatest hits.
He also sings a lot of the classics, in his own style, making them sound fresh and new- but not contemporary (Thank God!)- he stays true to the spirit of the originals, making them uniquely his, without adding synthesizers and updated arrangements. A fine line he walks just right!
Sometimes BJ can reach for notes a little out of his range resulting in an awkward thinness in his voice. Not here. His rich barritone is in abudance throughout- I think we can thank his producers for that.
Song selection is phenomenal and BJ really delivers!
Best I've ever heard from Mr. Thomas. Two Thums Up!
Bravo BJ.......2000-04-11
B.J. Thomas probably has more "greatest hits"compilations than any other artist on this plannet! And one of thebiggest problems is, a lot of his "hits" are re-recorded. There's also the BIG problem of the same songs being duplicated from compilation to compilation. Not so in this marvelous collection. I really don't know where else you can get a lot of the country classics included on this disk. The tracks were all licensed from Columbia and highlight his years on the label as a country hitmaker. The albums these tracks were culled from have long been out of print, and the other collections have not been able to access licensing. (Or maybe it was too expensive.) And for some reason, many of these songs, Bj has not chosen to re-record. There's no filler here. Every track is either a bona fide hit or a classic album track. B.J. has never been in better voice. This collection is well worth the price. Highlights include "Whatever Happened To Old Fashioned Love", "Two Car Garage" and "Night Life". Excellent liner notes as well. I always enjoy reading about what I'm hearing, as knowing the history behind the recording always enhances the listening experience for me a lot. Perfect music to cuddle up with, or go to sleep by, too! (That's a compliment, by the way) I highly recommend this Cd.
new looks...better than ever!.......2000-04-03
I have everything that BJ has recorded(as far as I know) and this CD just like all the others is incredible! I was so excited to see some new material for BJ. He does a fantastic job on the remakes (with his own unique style of course)of the songs on this CD. (Make the world go away, My Elusive Dreams, Don't worry....They all blew me away!!! Worth every penny and then some!

Product Description
“Introducing Alma” is a 10-track debut album by jazz vocalist and lyricist Alma Micic, whose talent has already made her recipient of prestigious prizes like the BMG Jazz Club Award and the Cleo Laine Award for Outstanding Musicianship. Alma's songwriting ability is beautifully displayed in "That April Day", track 6 on her debut album. Alma pays tribute to her roots in track 7,"Sejdefu Majka Budjase"(Sejdefa's Sunrise),a Montenegrin traditional which laments on love lost."Something To Live For", track 4, displays her great appreciation of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, as does the airy arrangement of the opening track, "Day Dream". "Introducing Alma", start to finish, is a work of a multi-talented individual whose voice and songwriting skills penetrate deeply into the soul and demand your attention.
Customer Reviews:
Introducing Alma-- Our new favorite cd.......2006-01-25
This album is beautiful! We have had this cd in our stereo for months, and never get tired of hearing it. Each time it seems to get better, in fact!
Her voice has an unusually captivating quality, sometimes haunting, sometimes sensual, always smooth. The Montenegrin ballad is one of the best songs, and she has an ability to transcend language with this one song, in that we can all feel the pain of the story through her singing. The other takes on many jazz classics are all original and well done.
I highly recommend buying this album.

Album Description
Rogue records is proud to issue the first australian release of recordings by dimmer, the recording vehicle for new zealand music legend shayne carter (ex-leader of the flying nun label's leading lights straitjacket fits), and unarguably the most critically acclaimed act over the tasman of the past five years. 'It all looks the same at night' is a compilation of tracks from two albums recorded by carter under the dimmer moniker - 'i believe you are a star' (originally released in nz in 2001) and 'you've got to hear the music' (2004). Both records are certified gold sellers back in nz, the latter a multi-award winner at last year's nz music awards (the big ones: best album and best group)! Dimmer's songs, with their sensuously hypnotic grooves and backing hushed vocals from carter that alternate between sweet intimacy and smoky menace, make for one of the great after-hours listening experiences of recent times. Aided by a revolving cast of characters including kiwi chanteuses bic runga and anika moa, carter constructs a set of sparsely funky tracks that straddle the worlds of rock and electronica without falling easily into any camp. The album also features guest appearances from fat freddy's drop, guest producers sjd (southern lights), nick roughan (for good) and andrew 'submariner' morton (feelstyle). 'it all looks the same at night' is a great intro to one of the most natural songwriting talents in this part of the world, and one of the best "rock" albums to turn the lights low to. Rogue. 2006
