Uh-oh, uh-oh-oh..........2007-06-27
The right stuff! You know it! C'mon - if you were awake at all in the late 80's early 90's - you know you sang along to at least one of their songs! So happy I picked this one up! It's so corny I love it!
the old days.......2007-06-09
i was THE BIGGEST fan of new kids on the block. I had all of their albums, starting with this one, toys and clothes--and I'm a guy!!!! my sister got me into their music. now the music and lyrics may seem sugary now, but they were fun anyway. i was 22 years old when they were big and now I'm 39. I still have HANGING TOUGH in my record collection. "plese don't go girl' was and is my all time favorite song, s is I'll be loving you". Like one of the other reviewers here (capricornrising-I feel what youre saying!!!)
all in all, HANGING TOUGH is a fun album. love ballads and dance trax in one album. I just wish they could have stayed around just a little longer. who know wha they would have accompliched next
A great trip down memory lane.......2007-02-06
Let me start off by saying that the New Kids hit my freshman year of high school -- so I have very fond memories of them from the age of 14 to about 16/17.
I had this album on LP and tape during it's popularity and ran across it again while I was looking to spend a Christmas gift certificate -- hence the purchase. Like most late 80s/ealy 90s music, I have had a blast listening to this CD. Say what you will about the boy bands of that era -- but the music is fun and -- honestly, not that bad.
The Right stuff!.......2006-05-29
It's particularly sad to see how many manufactured boy bands there are out there nowadays when you consider that raw talent such as the New Kids was allowed to flourish not much more than a decade ago. The title track is great to listen to if you want to get psyched up before an important business meeting or date - just don't get overexcited as I once did and ask your ladyfriend if she is 'tough enough'. That minor quibble aside, this is one of the best albums ever made. Go get!
$ 2.50 is way to much for this album.......2006-04-25
This album is almost 20yrs old, and why its not marked down to a penny is a shame. Does anyone really want this album anymore? This was the band that started the decline of "Music" and they are to blame for giving us garbage such as Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, and all that other boy band crapola. Even if you are a teeny bopper, I cant see how anyone can like this. If I had children, mayne I would play this for anyone under five, since it belongs on a Disney Compalation. These posers suck, and so does all the other copycats that we had to deal with over the years.

Customer Reviews:
Probably my best Waylon CD.......2005-07-03
Hard to choose your best Waylon but this might be mine. I like Emmylou's rendition of defying Gravity but Waylons is much better. "Crying dont even come close" well, what more could you ask? Skip "Chevy Van " and you wont miss a thing. In case you don't have it there are two GOOD duets with Kimmie Rhodes in her " West Texas Heaven" CD. If you like Waylon you should have these and there are also two Willie and Kimmie Duets.
Good late 80's Waylon.......2004-08-14
First let me say that this is a very good CD. I now own my third copy of this recording. The first two were on cassette tape, and then a few years ago, I found the CD.
Now, this is not the CD to buy if you're trying to discover the Waylon "sound". For that, I'd recommend "Honky Tonk Heroes", "Ramblin Man" or "The Essential Waylon Jennings". However, like his "pre outlaw" material, this serves to show a different (and usually overlooked) period of Waylon's musical career. As the mid 1980s approached, the arrival of new singers on the COuntry Music scene found some of the guys who'd been around for a while in search of a new style. Waylon was no exception. When he signed with MCA, gone was the "outlaw" sound he had created while on RCA and new was the more polished modern Waylon sound.
This CD opens with a mid tempo sort of rocker called "Baker Street", and then there is the beautiful "I Can't Help The Way I Don't Feel About You" followed by the classic
"Rose In Paradise".
"Crying Don't Even Come Close" is another beautiful slow song with lots of steel guitar. "The Crown Prince" is quite a haunting story song, while "Chevy Van" and "Defying Gravity (Executiner's Song)" just leave you wondering why Waylon chose to include them in this otherwise good album.
One of his best.......2003-08-21
Bought it years ago, and still dig it out and listen to it regularly. 7 out of 10 songs are solid winners, and the other 3 are listenable. A very nice showing!
Good Late-'80s Waylon.......2003-05-10
Waylon did a number of albums with MCA in the late 1980s, including this one. They have a noticably different "sound" than his earlier RCA records. The production was a little bit more slick and "modern" than the raw sound of the classic outlaw days of the '70s. One thing was that Richie Albright was no longer on drums; another was that Waylon no longer played his own guitar leads on the records.
That being said, the new sound "worked" pretty well on "Hangin' Tough." The songs "Rose In Paradise" and "Crying Don't Even Come Close" are two of my favorites from this record. ("Chevy Van," a cover of a cheesy AM radio hit from the 1970s, is a track I could do without).
Altogether, this is a good record from a period of Waylon's career which tends to be overlooked.
Great Waylon.......2001-01-12
Waylon's rendition of "Defying Gravity" is worth the price all by itself. As usual, great musical backup.
