i LOVE john conlee.......2003-02-02
John Conlee is my hero! I think he is an awesome songwriter. I wish that everybody knew about him. He is truly original!!
John Conlee, My Personal Hero.......2001-01-25
I had never heard of this man or his music until I wound up working in West Africa with a Malian truck driver who had a copy of "John Conlee's Greatest Hits." Subsequently I listened to it many times in the truck as we would drive from one place to another. What a strange place to develop a liking for country music, a genre I'd never been very fond of. Anyway, these songs are lots of fun. I particularly liked the version of "Busted" and the hilarious "I Don't Remember Loving You." Wherever you are, Mr. Conlee, we wish you all the best.
When Is This Album Available.......2000-11-26
I've waited like Karen Johnson of California for this album, but never see any release. You state "check back from time to time " and i have done that many times with no results. I need a couple copies of this album (new)
Thanks Bill Downey Wilmington, De
How Come I Can't Get This CD?.......2000-10-14
I have been checking back from time to time like it says, but it still isn't available. What's up?
John Conlee kicks some major bootie.......2000-07-07
I have to admit, I almost forgot about John Conlee until about two years ago when he came to a nearby county fair. I was taken aback at how many great songs he did. Soon after the show I started looking all over for any of his works, and finally found this tape at a second-hand store somewhere. It is a jewel. It may lack a few of his greatest songs, but you can't go wrong with this one. It is a shame this album is so hard to find. I'll guarantee you if more people saw him live, and radio stations started playing his songs again, you'd ship out a lot of his albums.

Customer Reviews:
All the very best of John Conlee.......2003-08-31
My friend tells me she hates country songs where the dog died, the spouse has departed and things are bad. If you feel that way too, you may not want to buy this album. But if you want some of best country songs ever written that run through the range of emotions, this is the album to get. Everyone has probably heard Rose Colored Glasses, which is now a classic and recorded by many other artists. A bit overplayed unfortunately. Better songs of John's are seldom heard any more. The whole range of human tradegy is here: Miss Emily's Picture (lost love); She Can't Say That Anymore (Murder of a cheating spouse); I Don't Remember Loving You (Insanity); and Busted (Broke and out of a job). Conlee does not have the best voice and some of his songs sound a lot alike, but these songs tug at something deep within all of us that makes them very listenable. His voice is unique and never difficult to listen to. Some might call this blue collar music, but whatever you want to call it, it's an album that I could not be without. Mine has been played over and over again. Any serious country music collector MUST have this in their collection.
Worth every penny.......2002-06-11
The title says it all. From "Rose Colored Glasses" to "Old School", and everything in between this collection captures John Conlee at his best. Other great songs include the Harlam Howard penned "Busted" as well as autobiographical songs such as "Common Man." "Lady Lay Down", "Back Side of Thirty", and "Friday Night Blues" are all great songs as well. This is one of those collections that I can listen to without skipping a single track. If you come across it or find someone selling it do not hesitate to pick it up.
The Complete Conlee Anthology.......2002-06-10
John Conlee has had a phenomenal career in the world of classic country music, and this collection of John Conlee standouts is an ultimate testament to that outstanding career. Most of the selections featured here display a theme of lost love and sheer romantic bliss - a Conlee trademark. These traits are successfully captured in the signature "Rose Colored Glasses", the amnesiac ambience of "I Don't Remember Loving You", the lowbrow man's anthem "Common Man", and in the roundabout, pent-up heavy "Friday Night Blues", among others. There's also a fantastic rendition of Ray Charles' "Busted", as well. "Old School" will defiitely take one back to their high school reunion, replete with memories of their first love. For lovers of up-tempo numbers, there's one titled "I'm Only In It For The Love". This is one CD that's worth many a repeated listen in your CD player, that is...IF ONLY THIS TITLE WAS MADE AVAILABLE ON CD, as other John Conlee so-called "greatest hits" collections aren't as complete as "John Conlee 20 Greatest Hits" is. This is one CD that definitely deserves to carry the "Greatest Hits" title, and is a CD that desperately needs to be brought back into print. And so, the question that needs to be raised is: HEY RECORD COMPANIES, ARE YOU LISTENING!?! PLEASE BRING "JOHN CONLEE 20 GREATEST HITS" BACK INTO PRINT, PRONTO!
Conlee to be Continued.......2002-01-30
Please get this album in stock ASAP. This is an unlocatable CD and I have looked everywhere. Surely, you can buy this in bulk... guarantee it will sell. This is the only complete collection of his greatest hits.
Bring it back, please!!.......2001-04-10
What does it take to bring this CD back for the few Conlee fans out there in this world? I've been checking around for this CD in particular for several years. I have the other "Greatest Hits", but this is the only one with 20 songs on it. I grew up going to street dances, spending summer nights dancing to "Friday Night Blues." It's very important that I have this one in my collection. There is no better John Conlee CD out there. HELP!!!

the second half of John's career.......2004-03-15
what seems amazing to me is that John Conlee was such a hugely successful star that after the release of 1983's "Greatest Hits", MCA issued a second volume in 1985 and 9 of the tracks were hit singles too! on "Greatest Hits, Volume Two" we're treated to the second half of John's career (1983-1985) since the first volume covered 1978-1982. however, "Before My Time", a #2 hit from 1979 was left off the first volume of hits and so it finds it's home on this 1985 collection. the album boasts two brand-new tracks, "Lifetime Guarantee", this wasn't issued as a single but the second new song, "The Old School", was and it hit in early 1986. however, Conlee's move to Columbia had already taken place in mid 1985, resulting in the #15 peak of "The Blue Highway" in the fall of 1985 {i think MCA didn't promote it too much}. afterward, MCA issued this "Greatest Hits, Volume Two" album. this contains 10 tracks, not in order: Lifetime Guarantee (1985); I'm Only In It For The Love (1983; #1); In My Eyes (1984; #1); As Long As I'm Rockin' With You (1984; #1); Way Back (1984; #4); Years After You (1985; #2); Working Man (1985; #7); Before My Time (1979; #2); Blue Highway (1985; #15); and The Old School (1986; #5). John Conlee moved to 16th Avenue records in 1989 after a two year stay with Columbia (1986-1988) but 16th Avenue had no impact on Music Row and had little influence with country radio and as a result his singles charted lower than normal, thus ending his radio career by late 1989. he tried a comeback in December 1990 with the single-only release of "The Doghouse" but 16th Avenue went out of business soon afterward. his biggest hit for them was "Hit The Ground Runnin", which hit #43 in 1989. that single and seven more of his songs from his 1989 album are on the 1991 CURB album "Best of John Conlee" that rounds out the trilogy of albums every Conlee fan needs: "Greatest Hits", "Greatest Hits, Volume Two", and "Best of John Conlee". on "Greatest Hits, Volume Two" John is wearing a leather vest and grinning but he's not sporting his rose colored glasses!
