Welcome to my World Daniel O'Donnell.......2007-03-20
I could listen to this tape all day long! It is fantastic. The man has a way of capturing you into his songs.
WELCOME to Daniel's World.....WOW.......2007-01-06
Having grown up as a fan of Gentleman Jim, I have to agree that Gentleman Daniel has come along to do great renditions of Jim Reeves' music. Daniel's version of Welcome to My World is fabulous, that velvety quality and smoothness that is so reminescent of when Jim sang it. Daniel does a wonderful job of paying tribute to a man who obviously inspired him a lot when he was growing up in Ireland.
Thanks for a great album!
A magnificent tribute to Gentleman Jim.......2006-11-09
While Daniel has been successful with up-tempo material, I have always preferred him as balladeer - he seems particularly suited to romantic love songs. In particular, I always considered Daniel as a latter-day Jim Reeves, so I was very pleased to see Daniel release this collection of songs made famous by his most obvious influence. I was also pleased to see that Daniel focused on the ballads that he is so good at singing.
In his own career, tragically cut short when he was killed in a plane crash, Jim Reeves had many hits in Britain, which were often different from the hits he had in America. For this tribute album, Daniel has chosen to record many of Jim's biggest British hits.
Here you can listen to Daniel singing his own version's of Jim's British top ten hits - Welcome to my world, I love you because, I won't forget you, There's a heartache following me, It hurts so much and, of course, Distant drums, with which Jim had a posthumous number one hit. Other classics such as Adios Amigo, He'll have to go, You're the only good thing, When two worlds collide and Not until the next time (all of which made the UK top twenty for Jim) are also included.
Daniel has not limited himself to UK hits, but has also included some other fine songs such as Anna Marie, Am I losing you, Blue side of lonesome, Don't let me cross over and How can I write on paper - every one of them well chosen, as they particularly suit Daniel's style.
It is futile to debate the relative merits of Daniel's versions compared to Jim's. As far as I'm concerned, Jim is unbeatable - at least when it comes to his later recordings (from which most of the songs here are selected), but his music will only survive for future generations if artists such as Daniel keep it alive. There will be some people who will buy their first Jim Reeves album because they like this tribute album, and who might never have done so otherwise. What I will say is that there is no singer anywhere is the world who is better suited to doing an album of Jim Reeves songs than Daniel O'Donnell. This album is proof of that.
This magnificent tribute should appeal to existing fans of Jim and Daniel alike. It might even bring them a few new fans who previously didn't take much notice of either of them.
Welcome to the World of Danny O'Donnell.......2006-07-06
I happened to see Danny on PBS and thought the show was pretty good so I started checking into his music, I have purchased many CD's and play them at my office, everyone who comes in wants to know who that is!. So they are all getting Danny CD's for Christmas. Can't wait to get to Branson to see him live. Listening to his voice is so soothing and relaxing and when he sings Danny Boy, nothing better.
Daniel Does Great Singing Jim Reeves.......2006-04-26
I was born 2 years after the plane crash, but grew up listening to his and other country music. Daniel O'Donnell does a great job in his singing of Jim Reeves songs. I really enjoy them!

the goose was cooked.......2006-11-28
I was trippin' on LSD when I saw these guys in concert. I liked them, at the time. I was DJ'ing at WBUS in Miami so I gave the disc a spin. The phones immediately lit up with callers threatening to burn down the station. But these hillbillies gave it a good whirl
country rock.......2006-07-12
this cd is pretty good its got some good songs that are fun to listen to and the music is very entertaining but in my opinion it is just not as good as their debut album
Whoo Hoo! Goose Creek!.......2006-01-13
I saw these guys 3 or 4 times around '71 and '72. They can tear down the house. I NEVER heard anybody that had the unique blend of styles that they did. Kinda bluegrasss and lot of rock.
What a great band!
they can bring it all back home.......2005-10-29
I was at the 2nd Atlanta Pop Festival, in Bremen, Ga. The Allman Bros opened & closed it. Lotsa really good music; Mountain tore the place up one night. Thing that got me tho, was camping in the pecan groves & waking up to Goosecreek Symphony at least two mornings. They put a glow on your day, fur sure.
Early 70's hippie music.......2005-08-09
Spotted this as an lp in a stack of similar at a yard sale & thought it looked interesting. At first it seemed kinda "southern rock" but repeated audition reveals that "mellow" vibe of the most insipid Dead stuff & that it wasn't even as tight as old Dead. If you like that stuff, you might get a kick out of this, but for me it's too much a product of its time, too lethargic, and too hippie-feel-good. I'll take my bluegrass straight, no chaser, and I'll take my rock with at least a modicum of edginess, thanks!

EASY LISTENING.......2003-09-08
If you are a fan of DEAN MARTIN,you'll love those two 1967 lps .We're about halfway mark through the REPRISE years, and DINO fresh from the success of his tv series, almost transform everything from the standards to his new songs like LITTLE OLE WINE DRINKER,ME into his own unique style. That is the mark of a singer who knows his craft, even if the material is medium. This is easy listening music at it's best, and DINO is almost in the twilight of his career with still a few delights to come.As you know, there are many DEAN MARTIN impersonators nowadays, but why not stick with the original? The song IN THE CHAPEL IN THE MOONLIGHT was originally a FRENCH song recorded by LEO MARJANE in 1938 under the title LA CHAPELLE AU CLAIR DE LUNE.
Middle of the road Dino pop.......2003-05-25
These are probably not Dino's finest Reprise recordings, but there are a few gems. "Welcome To My World" equals the original rendition by Jim Reeves, though somewhat different in style. Dean's "Green Green Grass Of Home" is very impressive. "Little Old Winedrinker" is fun, and there are nice cuts of "Wallpaper Roses" and "Chapel In The Moonlight (great Ernie Freeman arragnements and the latter is an extremely impressive vocal by Dean), and the gentle "I Can't Help Remembering You". The rest is filler...but good filler!
HAPPINESS IS DEAN MARTIN.......2003-03-21
This is my second favorite of the two fer CD series and well worth purchasing if you are considering it. These two albums were released within three months of each other and I would assume were recorded together because together they sound like one album. I like each and every song but I prefer Elvis's version of Please Release Me. I especially like Think About Me ,He's Got You, and Welcome To My World . All said these are two great albums which I will listen for many years to come.

NGDB guys "get back" to their roots .......2004-12-11
I first got interested in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's music after listening to their landmark Will The Circle Be Unbroken album. After seeing the guys in concert while attending college, I became a real fan of NGDB and haven't looked back since. Welcome To Woody Creek is the Dirt Band's first record of original music since Bang Bang Bang came out five years ago. Although I don't agree with a fellow reviewer's comment that Bang Bang Bang was a lackluster effort--I myself consider it a well-done record--I think this album is much better.
For one thing, as other reviewers have commented, the band members wrote most of the songs on this record. This is in contrast to Bang Bang Bang, where only one song, Jimmy Ibbotson's "The Monkey Song", came from a band member. Also, much of Welcome To Woody Creek was recorded at Ibbotson's own studio at his home in Aspen, Colorado. The record in this fan's opinion isn't a mere recording session, but it's five guys getting together to have a good time. Third, practically all the singing and playing on this record is done by the band members themselves--Ibbotson, Jeff Hanna, Bob Carpenter, Jimmie Fadden and John McEuen. Carpenter even sings lead on a couple of songs, something he hasn't done very much in recent years. The only guest artist is veteran pedal steel guitarist Dan Dugmore, who plays on the tender ballad "Any Love But Our Love". Finally, McEuen came back to NGDB in '02 after being out of the band for 15 years. I think John's return has definitely energized the Dirt Band; his banjo picking has a prominent place on this record and keeps NGDB's music from being mere fodder for radio stations.
There are a number of standout songs here. The band goes bluegrass on "It's Morning", "Safe Back Home", "Party On The Mountain", and the Beatles' classic tune "Get Back". To skeptics who criticize NGDB's bluegrassy arrangement of "Get Back", I say that the band made the Everly Brothers' "All I Have To Do Is Dream" and Bruce Hornsby's "The Valley Road" into bluegrass tunes, and I think both songs came out well. "Walkin' In The Sunshine", "She", and "Old Time's Sake" are great love songs. "It's A New Day" and the aforementioned "It's Morning" are songs that make you want to get out of bed and shout. "Forever Don't Last", "Jealous Moon", and the aforementioned "Any Love But Our Love" deal with relationships gone bad for one reason or another. The closing instrumental "Midnight At Woody Creek", with McEuen on guitar and Fadden on harmonica, features some awesome musicianship from both NGDB members.
Welcome To Woody Creek, in short, is a solid performance by the Dirt Band. This record might not have a major hit single, but it's a well-done record whose music is reminiscent of NGDB's classic '70s music. The guys definitely "get back" to their roots(quoting the title of the Beatles song that was redone here) on this album.
A Welcome Return To Form.......2004-11-03
This is a welcome return to form after the relative disappointment of NGDB's last studio effort, the lackluster BANG BANG BANG, in 1999.
Several factors contribute to the overall success of this album. First, there is the full-time return of multi-instrumentalist John McEuen. His banjo playing keeps the band from slipping into the country "cookie cutter" mode that the band too often slipped into over the past two decades. In addition, they wrote most of their own material this time. All five band members wrote or co-wrote all but three tracks. Standouts are "Walkin' In the Sunshine," "Jealous Moon" and "It's Morning." [Covers include the Gram Parsons-Chris Ethridge "She" and a bluegrass remake of the Lennon-McCartney "Get Back."] Finally, the band was revitalized by "CIRCLE III." In fact, three of the songs on this album ("Any Love But Our Love," "Party on the Mountain" and "Old Time's Sake") come from the same 1996 sessions as "I Find Jesus" (which appeared on CIRCLE III).
For long time fans who treasured such releases as UNCLE CHARLIE & HIS DOG TEDDY and DREAM, this is a welcome addition to your NGDB collection. This is their best effort since 1994's ACOUSTIC and ranks up there with their classic 70s albums. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Everything is Good.......2004-10-24
Out of a Politically Divided Country with a hangover from negative ads I came across the NGDB's latest offering and found a breath of fresh air. The Woody Creek Sessions take us to another place, far from the polarized climate of 2004. Thank God!The music is uplifting, gentle and heartwarming. Just what America needs. With John back in the fold the band hits the mark with songs that make you feel like walking in the Sunshine again. Thanks boys for bringing back to me the happiness that had started to become hard to find. Next Time I pass through Woody Creek I'll stop by the Tavern and Raise a glass to your gift. See if you can get out to the Bluegrass Fest. in Westcliffe sometime. Everything is Good, knock on Wood!
Their best in years!.......2004-10-21
It's great to see The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band back on form. Not that their records over the last decade haven't been good...they have, and I enjoy them very, very much. But they always seemed a bit too "mainstream" to be ranked amongst the band's best work. I suspect it was due to major label interference preventing the genre hopping that made their music so amazing (something I strongly suspect also marred the recent "Circle 3 " record).
Not so "Welcome to Woody Creek!" The NGDB is back big time. I just hope their new label is able to give this CD the promotion and distribution it so richly deserves. Not a weak cut on the record! It's wonderful to hear the group doing their own songs again, too; not to mention, Bob Carpenter finally being allowed to sing a couple again! This is a GREAT CD by a legendary band; you won't be sorry you bought it.
Just another Dirt Band album....but that's good!!!!!.......2004-10-13
Yeah, unfortunately, this is just another Nitty Gritty Dirt Band cd, nothing earthshaking. But that's not a bad thing, the Dirt Band are one of the most consistant groups in Country Music History.
The thing that really differs on this cd is the fact that Bob Carpenter gets to sing lead on more than one song. His version of "She" is very well done. And also, their version of "Get Back" is one of the few Beatles covers that stands on it's own. It does't make you forget the Beatles version, but it doesn't sound like a copied version either.
In all, I wouldn't say the music here is similar to their cd, "Acoustic" but more like "Plain Dirt Fashion" or "Dream."
There is nothing bad about this album, you won't be upset if you get it. Personally, I am a huge fan of Jeff Hanna and would prefer that he took the lead on all of the songs, but I can live with this.

Going for Baroque.......2003-01-09
Here lies master collection from ten years and fifty discs of examples from baroque era performed by choirs, soloists and instrumentalists.
Conducted by energetic Robert King and his King's Consort, this is just superb!
It will introduce one to baroque or add to one's enjoyment. Especially enjoyed Purcell's "Hear my prayer, O Lord" and Gabrieli's "Salvator noster."

In the mythical Porter Hall, Tennessee, they don't use fancy recording-studio tools to give singers perfect pitch, and they care more about irrepressible emotion ("I know that she hates me now / And I pray she dies") than soft-soaping sentiment. In other words, they like their music raw, raggedy, and honkin', full of spirit and sass. And that's what you get on this memorable debut from the group by the same name as this nonexistent town, which sounds like the crossroads of Porter (Wagoner) and (Tom T.) Hall, but was actually inspired by a character in the movie Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. It figures, considering the goings on in the songs--an "angel" leaves her drunken mate "face down," a perpetual loser moans of getting "Screwed Blue," and a couple goes nine rounds in record time ("Your eyes they fill with whiskey-black hate / I would leave but you are my date"). The mix is so screwy that the drums nearly drown out the electric guitar, and singers Molly Conley and Gary Roadarmel sound as if they recorded their parts in a tool shed. But heck, that's part of the fun. Visit Porter Hall, Tennessee, now, before all the tour buses come. --Alanna Nash

can't wait for new alblum.......2007-04-25
I have been a fan of Porter Hall Tennessee since they started playing in Murfreesboro. I've been listening to this CD for over 5 yrs now and it's the kinda CD with songs that you just need to hear occassionally. It doesn't get old. But I am very excited because they have a new CD soon to be released-ALL SINNERS WELCOME HERE. You can find out about it on Myspace.
This disc is a perfect tonic.......2005-10-02
This album is fantastic in the right setting. It taps the soul of broken-heartedness that most people regret having experienced at some point, yet it does more that pound the 'lost love' idea found in most musical heartbreak. They hit on somewhat unexplored aspects of relationship failures, the slowly building resentment of being 'stuck' in a relationship and the resigned self-recrimination after a good love goes bad amongst others. It's not all sorrow and heartache, and it balances in a very comfortable, country-esque way. Hurry up and grab it before it's out of reach, as I haven't been able to find the band or the record label's websites anymore.
Come on Home to Porter Hall.......2003-03-21
As of late people are coming in droves to the throne of alt country with the success of Uncle Tupelo, Whiskeytown, Wilco, and Ryan Adams. And we have a fine addition to the "land in between country and rock" with the stripped down whiskey bar rawness of Porter Hall Tennessee.
Molly Conley and Gary Roadarmel are the heart and soul of the band trading off vocal leads and harmonies. The music sounds as if its fairly steeped in Jack Daniels with that loose drawl (or should I say slur) and each track comes off as if your are enjoying shots in a bar with broken chairs, concrete floors, and one of the best bands in town smack dab in the middle of Porter Hall Tennessee. By the looks of the back of the CD, Porter Hall lies somewhere close to the geographical center of the eponymous state, but don't book your greyhound ticket just yet, cuz I'm specting you won't find the place on a map. But thanks to Conley and Roadarmel you can enjoy their music.
The song's lyrics are harsh and fierce and belie a stripped down life encountered with cheap alcohol and brazen emotion. There is a sense of the Southern gothic as people sleep on the couch and get themselves knee-deep in cheap wine. Others go to sleep with a bottle of whiskey so they don't wake up alone and yet others build hedges around them so they won't feel the tempting fires of temptation.
So Porter Hall Tennessee was born again from punk roots but it sure sounds like they brought the best together of two genres and came up with something authentic. I'll be looking out for what this group does next and checking the greyhound station for when they open up that stop in Porter Hall. Saaaaa-looooot!
Needs better songs.......2002-08-30
I love the sound: classic honkey-tonk, a little revved up. Why aren't there a thousand bands playing music like this? The songwriting is a little weak, though.
Down-home country and rockabilly.......2002-04-13
In contrast to the crossover product of Nashville and studied irony of alt.country, this wonderfully ragged album of country and rockabilly is a breath of fresh air. Although the bandýs vocalist/songwriters are recent converts (Molly Conley and Gary Roadarmel previously led a punk rock band), they take their country seriously and sing at a remove from current Nashville trends that belies the 35 mile distance to their Murfreesboro studio.
The albumýs rough edges arenýt the product of sloppiness or lack of ability, theyýre a choice to make music free of the finishing polish required for country radio success. The drums shuffle rather than boom, the rhythms move with the organic give-and-take of a band, and the vocals show the emotional cracks and crevices puttied flat by Nashvilleýs punch-in overdubs.
Roadarmelýs opening run at Randy Jonesý "Screwed Blue," is a terrific piece of rockabilly heartbreak. Played live, Ruth Griffinýs walking bassline and Roadarmelýs electric guitar surely pull dancers to the floor. Conleyýs singing balances strength and vulnerability, with more than a hint of Lucinda Williamsý warble, and an extra helping of hillbilly twang. Both singers (along with mandolin player Jason Sligh) provide harmonies, as well.
In addition to a trio of covers (including Gene Wilcoxýs "Golden Chain of Hate," with its memorable opening, "Whiskey, whores, and overtime have taken her place now that sheýs gone"), Roadarmel and Conley contribute eight originals. Itýs to their credit that these tales of broken, lost and discarded loves appeal as classic themes rather than hackneyed subjects. Highlights include Roadarmelýs tortured last-call, "Drunkard and the Angel," and Conleyýs ballad of disaffection, "Halfway There (Iým Gone)."
Potential fans shouldnýt waste their time searching a map of Tennessee for Porter Hall - itýs a state-of-mind (or, really, a state-of-music), and this CD is the only road in.

True Follower.......2006-10-05
This is one of my favorite Lost Trailers CDs. I love that Stokes does most of the vocals on this CD compared to their latest. I really like Ryder Lee's vocals, but Stokes warms my blood with his cool, yet smokey sound. I love that these guys are down to Earth, I have been to several of their concerts, and every time when they are done with the show, they always make it real by coming out and hanging with the fans. These guys got it!!!
Most Underrated Band I've Heard In Years.......2006-09-11
I'm not going to write a very lengthy review because when people write paragraphs on a product I don't bother to read it. What I'll tell you is that I am a seventeen-year-old avid music listener and The Lost Trailers could perhaps be my favorite band. Their music is rock with a bit of country in it. For those of you who do not like country, neither do I and I love the Trailers. Please Please Buy, I swear you won't be disappointed.
Not bad but not good.......2006-08-18
One reviewer said this was "Bon Jovi goes to Nashville". Well he's pretty close in that analogy. I've listened to this album several times and it just doesn't do much for me. It's pleasant and fairly well crafted and recorded but it's not memorable. How somebody could rate this their number 1 country rock album is beyond me. Gosh you could probably rate 1000 other country rock albums ahead of this. Every album by Firefall, Pure Prairie League, Poco, Loggins & Messina, Steve Earle, Pat Green, CSNY, Byrds, Blue Rodeo...........................
These guys should be stars........2005-09-07
If there is any justice in the music industry, these guys will be major stars within a couple of years. Unfortunately, good music is no longer popular. Okay, sorry for the rant. The Trailers are kinda hard to classify, but I'd probably call it heartland rock- think Petty or Mellencamp. Whatever it is, its darn good music. I tried, but can't really even pick my favorite songs on the album- there's just too many. My only gripe is that they change lead singers for a couple of songs, and I don't care for his voice nearly as much. Bottom line: pick this one up now.
Even to an almost-13 year old, a rocking must-have.......2005-04-29
These guys really rock! They are AWESOME!!!!!! I listen to this CD all the time, and have recommended it to my friends, who love it!

Very good old-time honky tonk .......2007-06-26
Charline Arthur was never a star; she never had a chance to be. She was one of these long-forgotten talented musicians that is fun to discover. She was at her best when she had the freedom to record & perform as herself, though she seldom was granted that. She was a fireball - hot tempered, hard drinking, action-seeking, sexual - so much so, that she was dropped by RCA music before she had the chance to hit her peak. That didn't stop her; she then hit the road, performing any place that would have her in the western U.S.,and generally living poorly. She seems to have influenced Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson, and perhaps even Elvis, who was known to have admired her racy stage performances. Anyway, "Welcome to the Club" is a collection of 32 songs, her entire RCA recordings, plus a few others. She was from a time when country was country, not the era of dishwater-dull junk played on radio & CMT today. Strongly recommended for those who like the real thing.
Yay! .......2007-04-12
I didn't hear about Charline Arthur until PBS did the "Women in Rockabilly" special. Thank goodness somebody put together a CD! The sound quality on this is excellent and there are a lot of tracks. Definitely worth it!
A Hitchhikers Friend.......2006-09-16
I was stranded and walking on a side road in eastern Idaho, I had a cowboy hat, sleeping bag and a guitar, with a sign that read "Nashville." I hadn't had a ride in two days and I was extremly hungry. I had given up on a ride, my plan was to walk to the next intersection 15 miles down the road, when an old pontiac station wagon stopped and backed up to me. a entergetic little lady jumped out and asked me where I was going, I was stunned I asked her where was she going, she said Casper. Good enough, she grabed my Guitar and sleeping bag and through it in the back of the car, on top of some Amps and other guitar cases. As we took off I asked her why were they going to Casper, she replied that they had a gig at the Beacon Club tomorrow night, then it off to Dallas. The little lady was Charlines friend Alice, ( I belive? ) And the driver was Charline. I had never heard of her, we rode and talked all night long, she told me the whole story. She had a poster from the fifties with her headlining and Johnny Cash, and Elvis doing the warm up. I was overwhelmed, didn't quite know what to think. When we got to Casper we drove to the radio station that was running the promos for her gig and did an hour live on the air. She introduced me as an up and coming songwriter out of Oregon, and made me feel real big. Charline thought of herself as the number one girl singer in country with Kitty Wells as her only threat, (so to speak). She was a spark plug on stage and could flat take over a room. She commanded the attention of a crowd. For yous guys that want to call this Rock a Billy or swing you would be wrong, Charline was a Honky Tonk Sweatheart.
It just gets better..........2005-06-03
My mother and Charline were friends so I grew up with all these songs. Today I am amazed at the talent of this woman. Regardless of all the different styles and arrangements dictated by her record producers...her raw talent shines through. What a tragedy that she was never recognized in her lifetime as the great artist she was due mostly to the fact that she wouldn't play the Nashville game. There's a song for every emotion and feeling on this album. The fifties just werent ready for this woman. I am so glad and grateful her music is available today.
A long-forgotten rowdy-billy cowgirl!.......2001-12-11
A stellar collection of ultra-rare oldies by one of hard country's most elusive figures. Brassy, loudmouthed and a snarly, dynamic singer, Arthur demolished the traditional role of the passive, ladylike country "girl" singer. Back in the early '50s, when all the other gals were demurely performing in Kitty Wells-style gingham dresses, Arthur was wearing slacks, smoking cigarettes, and cussing Chet Atkins out in the RCA recording booth. It was probably the last habit that had the most to do with her swift fall from grace -- Arthur was dumped from the label in 1956, after having plugged away for several years without much commercial success. Admittedly, Arthur's bluesy, occasionally raunchy style was at odds with the expectations of the times, but it's a tragedy she wasn't allowed to grow as an artist -- her vocals and approach certainly prefigured the work of bluesy country/pop stylists like Patsy Cline and Brenda Lee, and (of course...) the rockabilly bop of Wanda Jackson. Notably, the singer whose voice most resembles Arthur is Skeeter Davis, who Atkins *did* succeed in taming -- you can hear similar attempts to soften and Nashville-ize Arthur's vocals throughout this disc. But uptempo or slowed down, Charline Arthur was a force to be reckoned with, and this CD should send a quiver through the hard country community -- check it out!

Lovely music!.......2001-12-18
These CDs are for lovers of Irish music and of the "old-timey" sound of John McCormack. The songs themselves are lovely, and James Flannery sings them exactly as they need to be sung... in a simple and straightforward manner. The music is evocative of the sound and spirit of a long-ago time. The accompanying book gives interesting background information about Thomas Moore and also about the songs. Good listening for a rainy day or a snowy night with the fire blazing.
