5 out of 5 stars Spellin' Issues twixt D and T.......2004-11-26

Now if you axe me, and many folk do on a semi-regular basis, then this here Cledus feller has an interesting dilemma. First of all, he makes good music. Weird Al Yankovic is the Cledus of the cut out bins. Cledus is a true artistic genius with enough talent to spill over in to three or four other folks what might be interested in making CDs and getting in to the product marketing business. However, on the flip side, that boy has a spelling issue with his name. I should know, because my name happens to be Cletus and it is spelled as it should be.

This cognomen is derived from the Latin and is in honor of Emperor Cletufiscus III who ruled parts of the Eastern edge of the Roman Empire back a coon's age ago. He wasn't named Ce"d"ufiscus, but Cle"t"ufiscus. That is why my Daddy give me such a regal name, because I came out looking like a little emperor... least that's what my Mama told me. Cledus here is a talented individual, and I reckon I'll be buying more of his CDs with the money I done won last year in the Chesterfield County Elk's Club Lottery and Raffle (proceeds going to the Chesterfield County Home for the Infirm) but I sure enough do wish this boy would spell his name right

5 out of 5 stars Another classic!.......2004-10-02

Cledus comes through again with another great album. Without a doubt, he truly is the "Weird Al" of country music!

This album is witty, funny, and smart yet low-brow enough for the redneck in us all.

"I Love NASCAR" is pure Cledus Gold. Classic...

"One Jack Off" is just way too funny! "Hell No" and "Paycheck Woman" are also everything any Cledus fan should expect! The entire album will keep you entertained!

I would imagine that his "conservative pandering" would not surprise most Cledus fans. After all, in his parody of Brooks and Dunn's "Only in America" called "Don't Mess with America" (from Cledus Envy) he says "And thank goodness Bush is our President..." That kind of told me where he stood!

I thought the song "Martie, Emily & Natalie" was funny and quite appropriate given his target audience (i.e. country music fans which are, for the most part, fairly conservative).

4 out of 5 stars Good but seems pandering to conservatives.......2004-09-19

First, as a yankee I love the humor of Cledus T. Judd who has fans that aren't rock ribbed conservatives. I was completely disappointed in the "cheap shot" at the Dixie Chicks that was a boot licking offer to the conservatives of country music. Cledus, be smart enough to realize that you have fans that aren't right wingers and agree with the Dixie Chicks. Toby Keith is no philosopher/genius and doesn't have all the answers so stay out of the spat between Keith and the Chicks and just make us laugh.

Aside from the poor judgement of taking a "cheap shot" at the Dixie Chicks this is typical of the fine humor of Cledus and I wish him well.

5 out of 5 stars Cledus has done it again.......2004-08-26

This album reeks of awesomeness. Each and every song is funny, the cd is also enhanced with the video for "I Love Nascar" If your a big fan of Cledus T. Judd and or a fan of funny parodies then this album is for you.

5 out of 5 stars Everyone's favorite overweight bleach-blond comedian!.......2004-08-24

Nashville, beware! Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Tracy Lawrence, Gretchen Wilson, and Montgomery Gentry listen up--your songs are no longer safe! Cledus T. Judd has returned with his first full-length album in years, and has put all of you on his (no)hit list!

Cledus is a staunch supporter of traditional country music and patriotism. Somehow, he manages to work those themes into these songs without sounding fake. He pokes fun at redneck heaven in "I Love NASCAR" (with a little help from pal Toby); advocates Johnny Cash (and denounces Dr. Dre) in "Hell No"; proves that fart jokes are still hilarious in "__ Is Funny"; says adios to the Dixie Chicks in "Martie, Emily, and Natalie"; sings a ballad of a cards in "One Jack Off" (get your mind out of the gutter!); begs for a home cooked meal in "Bake Me A Country Ham"; demands that lazy women work in "Paycheck Woman"; looks for love in all the wrong places in "Going Ugly Early" and "Starkissed" (the latter written by Toby Keith and Scotty Emerick); and gets serious on the touching "Funny Man."

Country music's "reigning king of country parody", Cledus T. Judd is not going to make the big-hitters shake in their expensive shoes. But he will ruin their songs, and gladly! "Bipolar and Proud" is Cledus's latest album, and it is as funny as he gets! And that, people, is pretty darn funny.

If every musical genre needs a Weird Al Yankovic, then country music can breathe a deep sigh of relief. Cledus T. Judd is here! The music on Cledus Envy isn't innovative, but most of the songs are parodies, so there's little room for instrumental ingenuity. There is room for wit and wordplay that push parody into the realm of satire. The parodies here don't take that step, yet nearly all of them are funny. "Man of Constant Borrow" demonstrates Cledus's persona--that of an unpretentious, mildly insecure, and totally uncaring guy's guy. Many of the cuts are built around popular songs that are ripe for parody. The original songs, such as "Willie's Got a Big Deck," fit in perfectly with the familiar selections. --Mark Huntsman

5 out of 5 stars Cledus Envy.......2002-12-13

This is a great and fun CD. I absolutely love the song "It's A Great Day To Be A Guy". Cledus T. Judd puts a unique comic spin to country songs.

5 out of 5 stars Cledus at his best!.......2002-07-22

This is definitely an album worth listening to. If you like Cledus, this is classic Cledus. If you've never heard of Cledus, then this is worth checking out. He is the King of Country Parodies. Cledus Envy is Cledus at his best. This album has songs such as 'Don't Mess with America' (parody of 'Only in America ' by Brooks & Dunn) and 'Breath' (parody of 'Breathe' by Faith Hill). It also has hilarious original songs like 'Willie's Got a Big Deck'. This is one album that will keep you laughing!

5 out of 5 stars Weird Al of country music.......2002-07-19

Cledus. T Judd is the Weird Al of country music...and that's a great compliment. The Man is a pure genius and this CD proves it. The pains in your gut from laughing so hard after listening will be well worth it. This CD is also well worth the money too as you will want to listen to it over and over again. I meet Cledus at the Brooks and Dunn Neon Circus and must say he was a very nice person. It was great he took the time to sign some autographs.... Buy this CD ...YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!

5 out of 5 stars LMAO!!.......2007-01-26

I love parodies and comedic songs. I have just about every album made by Cledus, Weird Al, and Ray Stevens. Dr Demento's CDs are a must have.

I just play one CD after another and laugh. My favorite creation on this CD is "My Cellmate Thinks I'm Sexy" LOL.

This artist is just all around great fun. If you liked "The Flying Purple People Eater" and "The Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" and such songs you'll enjoy this artist. He's inventive and clever and his voice isn't half bad. He pokes as much fun at himself in his songs as he does at everyone else.

Check out his other albums as well.

I will give you fair warning. He's addictive and you'll be hunting down Jerry Clower and similar albums next!

Enjoy, I know I do:)

5 out of 5 stars What's wrong with parodies?.......2005-11-24

First off I want to say I'd been meaning to review this CD anyway, but it was after reading one of the reviews posted here that I really decided to get on it. One reviewer commented that if Cledus had a better voice he could make it big without having to do parodies. That may be true, but I think parodies were his goal to begin with, and they ain't half bad neither considering he was originally planning on becoming a teacher.
I was introduced to Cledus' music only recently by a friend of mine, and it was this CD that she showed me. From the moment I heard My Cellmate Thinks I'm Sexy, I was hooked. Then again that may be because I generally hate country music save for a few artists and therefore like parodies of country songs, but in any case I was hooked. Goodbye Squirrel is another favorite of mine, not to mention How to Milk a Cow and What the $$$$ did you say? Actually the only one I really didn't like as much was Plowboy, and I didn't care for Cowboy to begin with. Anyway, all I can hope for is that Cledus parodies Whisky Lullaby at some point as I find that to be THE most depressing song I've ever heard. But anyway this album is great as far as I'm concerned and, when finances permit I'll be adding it to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Too Bad He Can't Sing..........2002-06-10

This is one of the best CDs that Cledus has ever done. Too bad he can't sing. "How Do You Milk A Cow" "My Cellmate Thinks I'm Sexy" and "Goobye Squirrel" are easily the best. If only he had a better voice, he could seriously get somewhere in the music buisness without having to use parodies.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good except for Plowboy.......2001-11-22

This guy is funny and you have to be wanting to laugh if you are going to hear this cd but there a few songs that give me a headache. Every song is pretty good the only really bad one where I think he has gone to far is Plowboy it is just to rap, a mess, and is pretty bad to even see Cletus sing a song like that. WARNING THIS IS A FOOLISH ALBUM MADE BY A FOOL.

4 out of 5 stars Please take the girl!.......2006-05-15

When I bought this album I had no idea that it was Cledus' debut. I'd heard Just Another Day in Parodies at a friend's house and was hoping for something similar. I was a little disappointed but I still found the album to be well worth it. In fact the only song I didn't quite feel was Swingin'. I mean he went from country to cra---ahem, rap, with pretty much no warning. Possibly my absolute favorites on the album are Indian In-laws (if my girlfriend's parents are anything like the ones in the song she can forget about the wedding), Please Take the Girl (I never cared for the Tim McGraw original), and Motel Californy, which is just---well---hillarious! Shade Tree Mechanic is also a song I listen to quite regularly. In short, this is a great first album for Cledus.

3 out of 5 stars A strong smell of Cledus.......2005-05-23

This was the first album by Cledus T. Judd, who is sort of country music's answer to "Weird Al" Yankovic. It is a decent enough comedy music album, but I can't help feeling I'm missing something. Maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the original versions of most of the songs being parodied here. Yeah, that must be it.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty Good!.......1999-10-15

This album is the debut for Cledus. You can't strike him for the "sound quality" of the album. The parodies are funny and so are the originals. I mention the "sound quality" because you can tell a difference between this album and albums that he put out later.

If you have a Cledus record, I recommend you buy this record. If this would be your first Cledus record, I would offer a different album by Cledus, this guy has talent and the record label wimped out on his debut. Don't get me wrong you can make out the songs, it just sounds like it wasn't recorded in a studio at all. That is the only reason this album doesn't get 4 or 5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Music for the content, not the quality.......2002-09-14

This CD is amusing, if one looks at the lyrics. The spoof of popular country songs is a great idea, and Cledus has some good parodies. However, his voice quality is a bit on the nasal side - and not always pleasant to listen to. Yet, somehow, with these lyrics, his voice sounds fine. There are some gems on this CD, including: Every Bulb in the House is Blown, Third Rock from her Thumb, and Did I Shave My Back For This? I do recommend this CD, even for people who aren't country fans - the lyrics are just too funny to miss!

4 out of 5 stars The title splains it all!!!.......1999-10-07

This redneck is surely the Al Yankovic of country music. Wives Do It, Third Rock, Mindy McCready and the title song are excellent parodies of countrified music today. The originals, First Redneck On The Internet and Hankenstein prove that this crazy hickster is more than just a country clown. He has talent!!! A great effort. The world anticipates the next musical joyride. Keep yuckin it up, Cledus!!! (no relation)

5 out of 5 stars Timely and Funny!.......2003-05-06

This half album allowed Cledus to poke fun at songs while they were still hot. My Crowd is a hillarious jab at Montgomery Gentry and the crowds they have faced on the road, and I was Country When Country Wasn't Pop expresses what a lot of country traditionalists have been thinking for some time. A great album! A Must Have!

5 out of 5 stars Even with only six songs, Cledus keeps us laughing!.......2003-05-04

Six songs? SIX SONGS? I was upset like heck when I heard that Cledus T. Judd's latest album was only six songs in length. "A Six Pack of Judd" indeed. But then I got to thinking; did Cledus really need a full-length CD to make us shed tears of laughter?

Apparently not.

This CD is one of his funniest, if shortest. The first track, "Where's Your Mommy" (T. Keith's "Who's Your Daddy"), is arguably the best (Your diaper's droopin'/you must be poopin), bringing the always funny concept of fatherhood into the equation. The next song, "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Pop" (Barbara Mandrell's "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool") features a surprise appearance by the Possum himself--George Jones. And "My Crowd" is a country music anthem, while it parodies Montgomery Gentry's "My Town." It's "270 Somethin'" (Mark Will's great "19 Somethin'") that bring's Cledus's overweight issues front and center; "Riding With Inmate Jerome" (David Ball's "Riding with Private Malone") that discusses the life and times of a pimp; and "New Car" (Kenny Chesney's "Big Star") that talks about those old wrecks that we drive, and how they annoy our friends and, as Cledus would say, neighbrahs.

If you aren't a Cledus T. Judd fan, buy this album and join the millions (or hundreds, or maybe just a couple dozen). If you are one of the select few who has heard Cledus, either live or through your headphones, buy this album and still be amazed at his ability to master the parody. Either way you look at it, you must buy this album, because this is one six pack that is truly refreshing.

Warning:
It may be non-alcoholic, but it IS addictive.

5 out of 5 stars The Wierd Al of Country Music.......2002-09-16

This is an absolutely fabulous CD - definitely one of his best. Cledus is not a good singer, by any standard, but the lyrics to his songs are hysterical. This is a CD for both country fans and their opponents. You don't need to know the original song to appreciate Cledus' version. For example (She's got a butt) Bigger than the Beatles - a great song about overeating. And If Shania was Mine - great lyrics, including "Oh, I'd love to seduce her, but she married her producer. Now all I can do is pray (pray) she'll get a divorce someday...If Shania was mine..." In any event, this CD is definitely worth the money and the time -- the humor will definitely take your mind off your troubles.

*There are a few songs that are more adult material -- for example The Change (a song about a sex change -- which I might add, is hilarious) and 1-900-Sheila (just look at that title).

4 out of 5 stars Cledus-sure can't sing, but really gets ya laughing!!.......2001-12-28

At first, a few years ago, I thought Cledus was really stupid and rude. But, after I heard his songs later this summer, I couldn't stop laughing. My favorite song on this CD would be: (She's got a Butt) Bigger than the Eagles. It is hilarious. I've listened to other CD's of his, so have my parents, and they crack up. Of course, my dad laughs at anything, but it even got my mom laughing, that's how funny his songs are. They make sense (Kinda) and the tone of his voice, the titles, and they way the are written makes the songs the funniest country songs I have ever heard.

5 out of 5 stars superb by all standards.......1999-07-15

Cledus combines great lyrics and an underrated sense of humor too far for country music, he makes a big comeback from his first album, he should have titled it STEP ON OVER in parody to Shania Twain's high grossing album COME ON OVER. This is a have to have record as he said he stoled his.

5 out of 5 stars Cledus can't sing but ......BOY, CAN HE COMMUNICATE!.......1998-10-17

My introduction to Cledus T. Judd was a mind blowing experience! I was on vacation in Florida in the Fall of '96, just a few months after the release of this CD,when CMT were showing Cledus "doin'his thing" in his video promoting "If Shania was Mine". The video had me in kinks, instead of doing the tourist bit I found I was staying around the appartment just in case he was being shown again! (What a sad person!!) I just could not believe that someone who could sing as well as me had records released and was enjoying nationwide exposure on TV but when you listen to the parodies carefully they are written so well and put over so "tongue-in cheek" that you have to admire each and every track on the CD. Since coming back to Scotland, I have introduced many, many people to Cledus and all have agreed that the guy has a talent and style of his own. You here one the songs he's done a number on, sung by the original artist, and immediately you picture Cledus. What else can you do but SMILE?

5 out of 5 stars Cledus Country.......1999-12-24

Cledus, in my mind, is the parody king. Wierd Al eat your heart out! Cledus knows how to make people laugh with his halarious remakes of country favorites such as The Charlie Daniels' Band 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' and others. 'Skoal: The Grundy County Spitting Incident' would have to be one of my favorites. I hope Cledus continues his career with more parodies. His originals are pleasing to the funny bone as well.

5 out of 5 stars Very Funny!.......2000-05-28

This is the first of his albums I bought and loved it! He is one of the best parody artists around and the only one that I know of that does country music! I'm buying a few extra copies for some freinds!

5 out of 5 stars Sounds better than previous Cledus CDs..........1999-10-28

This CD sounds so much better than all the other Cledus CDs. It's very funny and it actually sounds like a REAL music album, not cheap and thin like the other ones he's done. I really like it and I think everybody else will too.

2 out of 5 stars Eh...okay..........2007-01-17

Every year we buy a few Christmas Comedy songs to even out the traditional ones...this is an okay collection of classic comedy christmas songs.

Not a big fan of all of them, and most likely won't buy anymore of Judd's stuff...an aquired taste I seem to not be able to aquire!

3 out of 5 stars And what do you want for Christmas this year?.......2005-12-19

This is a fairly amusing collection of Christmas novelty songs. Most of the songs are originals, but there are also cover versions of Elmo and Patsy's "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" and Ray Stevens' "Santa Claus is Watchin' You". And there is a parody of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" about a Christmas tree catching on fire, and a parody of "All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth" about a rapper who wants gold teeth. Most of the songs are amusing, although not "laugh out loud" funny. If you like Christmas novelty songs, you will probably enjoy it.

5 out of 5 stars funniest cledus ever.......2002-12-07

This is the best christmas CD out there! Cledus's Christmas Ball is the funniest song I've heard in ages. And the best "grandma got run over by a reindeer" ever. A must buy!

5 out of 5 stars Merry Christmas from your bleach-blond, overweight comedian!.......2002-11-18

Cledus's newest CD, "Cledus Navidad," offers up ten tracks to delight you in the holiday season--or any other time of the year. Fans of Cledus--and yes, you pretty much have to be demented--may be surpised to learn that he wrote only two songs on here, one of them, "Merry Christmas From the Whole Fam Damily", appearing on "Just Another Day In Parodies."

But on to this album.

"Cledus's Christmas Ball" kicks things off, a hilarious party thrown by the Cleuds-man himself. "Stephon the Alternative Lifestyle Reindeer" isn't knock-out funny, but its humor it subtle, and its a good tune, anyway. "Hazel's Homemade Hallelujah Punch" and "All I Want For Christmas Is Two Gold Front Teef" are probably the worst of the tracks, if that term can be used. You'll get chuckles out of them, though, don't you worry.

"Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" (much better than Cledus's parody on an earlier album) will bring back many memories for those of you old enough to remember Elmo & Patsy. (I like the knew introduction/techno spin on the chorus, as well.) "Only 364 More Shopping Days Til Christmas" was written (by CTJ) for all you parents out there. "Tree's On Fire" is one of the most hilarious songs on the album--and a parody of Cash's "Ring of Fire." The immitation of Cash's voice is half the fun, but the other half's listening to the cat get it.

"Don't Serve Beans", featuring Cledus T. Judd and "Out of Sync", is supposedly sung at a church, with a preacher introducing the band. No instruments, but some good harmonies. You can guess what the tune's about.

"Merry Christmas From..." (I mentioned the full title earlier) is still one of Cledus's best songs ever, a hilarious ride through two warring families' Christmas gathering. "Santa Clause Is Watching You" is also still a delight, with Cledus bringing the song to life once again--and getting you to smile, laugh, and possibly lose control of your car.

With that last warning in mind, you might want to be careful where you listen to this album. Like everything Cledus does, it'll get you laughin. This man has a gift of smiles--whether he's immitating Billy Gilman (Check "Cledus Envy) or admiring Dolly Parton's "jugs of wine" (Check the album whose review your reading), Cledus T. Judd will get you to laugh.

"Cledus Navidad", everyone!
