This is one of the best I've heard if you like country & duets... Absolutely wonderful!

Missing Some Major Duets!! .......2005-07-26

These tracks are all excellent but frankly several major country duets are not here!! Where on earth are Kenny Rogers and Dottie West?? Instead we get Rogers with Sheena Easton and the Rogers/Easton combo makes it almost entirely a pop recording and it should not be on this package. Buck Owens & Rose Maddox have a track but where is Buck with his far more famous duet partner Susan Raye? The Merle Haggard - Janie Fricke track should not have been included since she really only just sings harmony on the record. Why aren't Jimmy Wakely & Margaret Whiting who started the male/female star duet craze in 1949 with Slipping Around here or Kitty Wells & Red Foley, the first superstar duet? And where are Ferlin Husky & Jean Shepard, Jack Greene & Jeannie Seely, David Houston & Barbara Mandrell, Bobby Bare & Skeeter Davis, Roy Drusky & Priscilla Mitchell, Don Gibson & Dottie West, Johnny Duncan & Janie Fricke, to name just a few of the famous country duos of yore. Instead we have too many tracks with the same artists here. It's a very good package but it should have been a great and classic one.

A Good CD.......2005-03-02

This is a good collection, however, do not think that you're getting those original 1970's recordings. These are the "re-recordings" that COnway recorded for Warner Brothers/Electra records in 1980 for his "Conway's # 1 Classics, vols 1 & 2" albums.
That being said, these are good songs, as well as good recordings... some even better than the originals, while some don't quite come upto the standards set on the 1970's MCA and Decca recordings.
Let me elaborate a little. Some of the songs, such as "Linda On My Mind", "Fifteen Years Ago", and "Hello Darlin'" are just not as good as the original (he should've left that one as it was in 1970), and some, like "I'm Not Through Loving You Yet", "Baby's Gone" and "It's Only Make Believe" far surpass the original recordings (and I'm not into "remakes").
Anyway, it's a budget collection that's floating around under many different titles (the way to tell if you're getting these remakes is that on the back it will say that the songs are owned by "Tree Publishing"). It's worth having simply for the fact that this is the late, great Conway Twitty and he did put a lot of work into these recordings.
Only in these remakes will you find Conway singing a solo version of "As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone"... I like this version, but to be honest the original duet with Loretta where she is singing the song and Conway is trying to "break up" with her over the phone is a little corny. I much prefer this version of the song.
Buy this, it's worth your money. However, don't overlook the original recordings of these classic songs either.

Conway's rock 'n' roll years are pretty much ignored compared to his country years (except of course for Bear Family's gargantuan box set) and of course there are those who would like to get in on the groundfloor and see what those years were really like.

Direct Source attempts to do a decent set of Conway rock, but it sorely misses the mark. First thing to notice is the picture is not period on the front. Ok, we won't sqabble about that, but there are also a complete total lack of liner notes in this. So, we don't know when anything was recorded, etc.

But, to add insult to injury, the sound quality is horrendous.
Many cuts are in a very noisy monaural format. One cut seems to be a rerecord(Big Town) and I think one cut makes it in stereo.

If you're extremely budget conscious and don't care about the flaws, pick up the thing. But, you'll find you like it and you'll be getting rid of this one!
